I recommend a stronger solution for AAA single game players: Get a 110-130W TDP Geforce (Geforce is important, because most of AMD cards pick up much more PWR from the PSU than advertised TDP) AND undervolt & underclock it. With a well balanced undervolt and undercolck you can push down the TDP by 50-40% while you loss only 15% of 3D performance. For this solution are good options a GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1650 Super, GTX 1660, RTX 3050. Older geforce also not so good, because of possible very high peak PWR. From AMD there are 2 option that maybe could be good: RX 4** / RX 5** with a very stong undervolt (max. 825mV-837mV and strong underclock (~ 900-1100 MHz) depends on ASIC quality and RX 5500 4GB/8GB
I am testing right now i5-10400F ! + RX 470 4GB (999MHz@837mV) The very max PWR of the whole PC from the wall is around 140-145 Watt. But i5-10400 has a very low pwr during gaming. and old 6. gen i5 intel could be 10W higher, do not forget.

I actually built another SFF OptiPlex for my sister to use (a 7060 this time, with an 8th-gen i7, paired with a Sapphire Pulse RX 6400 low profile). I noticed that the 260 watt power supply it uses has the same connectors as the 240 watt unit in the 3050, so I'm tempted to get another 260 watt Dell OEM unit to replace the 3050's 240 watt unit. Hell, if I can find one that's 300 watts that'll be cool too. I was debating getting an i7-7700 to replace the i5-7500 in the 3050, but since these things can apparently use Xeons too (or so I heard in this video), I might just do that instead. Have you heard of the Nvidia A2000 GPU? It's an Ampere generation (RTX 30 series) low-profile two-slot card without requiring PCIe supplemental power, so it's newer than a GTX 1650 but since it's targeted for the professional/enterprise segment, it's more expensive though... It's based on the GA106 chip, the same as the RTX 3060, but has a slightly reduced core count and is downclocked to stay at the 75W TDP range. And since it's a low-profile card, you can probably put them on the smaller SFF Optiplexes (if the 16x slot is on the top).

have you tried blowing the dust out of it? If your processor is running hot it is usually because the heatsink fins are all clogged up with dust, or the thermal paste on between the cpu and the heatsink has dried out and needs to be replaced. Both are easy enough to fix. Just get a can of compressed air, take it outside open up the case and blow the dust out. Or you can use a vacuum cleaner with a brush to loosen the dust so you can suck it up. And it can help if you use the vacuum crevice tool to get into the tighter spaces. To replace the thermal paste, you just buy a small thing of arctic MX4 any other decent thermal paste and then find a video here on youtube that shows how to repaste whatever kind of computer you have, it is gonna be similar for most computers so don't worry if it isn't the exact model you have, if it looks close enough you should be able to follow along no problem. The thermal paste they put on at the factory is never very good and it dries out after a few years which will really hurt your machines performance. Thankfully, cleaning the old paste off and spreading some new stuff on is cheap and usually pretty easy to do. While you have the case opened up, you might want to try lubricating all of the cooling fans too. Most computer fans can be lubed which will usually make them run better and quieter and it should help them to last a lot longer too. Lubing a computer fan is usually as simple as peeling back a sticker or rubber plug on the fan and putting a drop of oil in the bearing that was covering up, just put back the plug or sticker afterwards and you're done.

very helpful thank you, i saw same case on ebay but it only got mother board and power supply. for 35 i think it a pretty good deal. I just wanted to see just how far i could max it out.
Be careful which 1650 you buy. There are 2 different styles. Ones a 6pin and one draws power off motherboard. 1650 OC i believe is the version that doesnt need anything plugged in and draws from the motherboard.
Finally I found a vid with the same pc i have
Quadro cards can be worth looking at: k2200 4gb = 750/750ti but much cheaper single slot. P1000 would be good in this system at 47w newer than 1050 75w and only single slot for temps. P2000 cost to much over a 1650. thanks for the video
Thanks for the info!
Thanks for this. I just recently discovered this world of refurbished computers and have an optiplex on the way. I'm not a gamer but my needs would be for video editing and number crunching (testing forex ea's). Any chance you could include some very short video editing performance? For example in this build would 32g of ram make a huge difference? The graphic cards? I use davinci resolve. Anyway thanks again. Subscribed
it sold before I could do that but for editing it would be fine, def need the 32gb or ram and the 3060 worked well. its gonna be decent and def get you buy with a decent experience. I used DaVinci on it and it was smooth.
Can you make a video on buying a used GPU ? what to look for. Great Chanel you have here.
already did!!

Found a tossed out Dell Optiplex 3050 to-day! Think it has the i7 with Win 10. Can it be upgraded to Win 11? Thank you 🤓 has the DVD drive feature but a player isn't mounted
it can but you would have to look up the work around to run windows 11. besides windows 10 runs better for gaming in my opinion.
@@DLMtechgarage did a short test on it, & looks like the previous owner did a reset. The screen that asks for ones country, time zone, etc came up when first turned on! Hoping M'oft will extend the support for Win 10!

Yay nice to see GPUs finally dropping, I have like 5 budget builds now LOL nice 80 buck hack man!
yea I got a couple computers that have been sitting for over a year that I have been able to hunt down cheap gpu' s now and get them flipped.
Xeon won't work on this chipset, unfortunately. Starting 5th gen, Xeon needs a special chipset or a modified bios to work on these Optiplex. Last model on which Xeon are usable is 9020 and similar.
Hi, great informational video. Does "GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5" can be used for this Optiplex 3050?
yes!!
I got vary lucky and found a 3080 for $10 bucks a little bit back. Great video ty!

What about a AMD 5700xt? Would I need to change the PSU? If so which one do you recommend? Currently have a 7050MT Optiplex with a i7.
You would have to change the PSU and also be mindful of the siye of the card cause of the limited space in this case
@@DLMtechgarage yes just saw your follow up video 😂 and saw what you did, i definitely would end up needing to do the same.
I’m gonna buy an HP Prodesk with an i5 6500 soon, gonna plop in a new PSU and a GTX 1060, wish me luck!
let me know how it goes!!
@@DLMtechgaragecompletely forgot about this comment. The system was able to run most games well enough, and I was able to snag an i7 6700 for free from a computer that was recycled at work. Runs most games without issue minus Warzone. I think it just needs more cores which Skylake can’t provide unfortunately.
Great video. Can the psu be swapped for a atx psu?
Nahh... Sfx only
I have a Optiplex 7050 and it comes with a 240W PSU and a i7-7700 so is the GT 1030 a good option for my PSU? (I only play CS:GO, Dota 2)
go with either a 1650 low profile or rx6400 low profile, they come with the height io bracket and the performance on them is great and they work with these stock psu
Hey i have a question im also gonna try to put an rx 6400 in there but did you change the power supply when you put the gpu or does that psu work with the rx 6400?
Nvidia p-106-100 costs $20 in China It is exacxtly the same as 1060 6 gig but without external monitor connectors. It should work through built in graphics hdmi. I will try this on my dell 3050.
that's a pretty interesting idea!!
And since it's a low-profile card, you can probably put them on the smaller SFF Optiplexes (if the 16x slot is on the top).
yea, I have heard they are decent for gaming, but the price is too much
That one Works on Optiplex 3050?
bro,the rx 6400 would fit in that pc? i want to know that, cheers!
What software is used to see your fps and temps while playing games?
msi afterburner
Why are you using SATA SSDs when it has a slot for an NVMe drive? About the same price with 5x more performance.
It was one I had lying around. the nvme def the way to go.
Did your ram run at full speed? The dell website says it does support high speeds like 3200mhz, so will it work?
That's what I want to know?
Hi i have this same pc as your video same specs. I need to add a graphic card and I can't find low profiles gpu here in my place.
Would a Palit gtx 1050ti or inno3d single fan gtx 1050ti work with stock psu.
Alternatively I can find a rx550 not low profile
Just got one of these for around 30 bucks. Now that the arc a380 is out. Would it make sense to use one of those instead of a 1650?
not sure on the performance difference
Any idea the max size gpu for a sff version of this case? (3050sff)
I have a hp prodesk 490 g3 mt (80 euros), with 16go of ddr4 ram (20 euros)and an i5 6500, 500W powersupply (20 euros), and a gtx 1660 (100 euros) . All of that for 240 euros. Best values pc 👌🏻. With the upgrade of my bios I can also put an i7 7700.
One concern I had with these PCs and using the sata to PCIE adapter since the sata power runs on the board. It’s not clear to me how much power those traces are actually sized for.
I did this in my PC but it's no cignal but i hear the OS startup sound when i open it
I snagged a Lenovo P500 for 150 on ebay. Got two sata to 6-pin adapter and combined with the 6pin that came with the PSU I added on a double six pin to 8 pin adapter to use an XFX RX 580 GTS Black Edition 8GB GPU with it. I can't use the overclock on the GPU because I will be met with instabilities, but the regular clock of 1257 is stable. I played VR Games like VRChat, Beatsaber, Blade and Sorcery to test and was surprised that for 300 bucks with GPU, Adapters, SSD and the PC I could get a VR Ready and AAA title gaming machine!
nice!!
Hello sir, i have a question...can the Galax dual fan version of the 1650 fit in this pc? And does it require external power? This will be my first ever "build" attempt and im really nervous so thanks a lot...

This my computer and fan so loud can you tell what the problem
have you tried blowing the dust out of it?

I added msi 1650 to same optiplex 3050 .. as you said I have kept the whole cpu opened. It is weird but works good .. worried about dust .. let's see

I did a video of modding this case and adding a vent for more fans. The vent I installed lower the temps significantly. Def check out that video.
where should i look if i want to upgrade the power supply? i don’t know much about pcs but i want to get into pc gaming from console, so i’m not sure where to look or how to know if it’ll be compatible with the case or components
to get a new psu you would need sfx psu and have to do a little modding to the case to make it work.
any sfx psu will work.
