Not sure if you have heard of this model, but I just got a dell xe2 mid tower for 135 canadian dollars (including tax) with shipping included off ebay. It's not a very new model. It just uses an intel core i5-4570s cpu, and dual channel ddr3, but there is some upgrade options for the processor. In retrospect I kinda wish I got something with a slightly newer cpu, but i can always switch it up later. The nice thing is it is a very spacious computer, so its pretty easy to work on and provides good airflow. It also has a decent power supply with 365w, and it has a 6 pin pcie power cable. And I think because of the spaciousness of it, it is more feasible for upgrades in the future, such as the power supply, or motherboard. I'm just upgrading it with 16gb of ram, and an asus gtx 1650 OC edition with 4gb ddr6 memory. There are some better gpus I think that could work with this computer, but those cost signifigantly more than the 1650, and I'm keeping this build very budget. It will work well for me because I don't really want to or need to play the newest games on high settings. I'm pretty happy playing slightly older games, or perhaps just turn the graphics down on some newer games. I suppose my standards are low, but long as I can get 60 fps I am pretty happy. One older game I want to play on it is elder scrolls online, and I think this will run that quite well.
I have a small form factor 3050 lying around (it was my daily driver until I built my current PC). It too has the i5-7500. I replaced the stock 180 watt power supply with a 240 watt unit (it was another Dell OEM unit, so it bolted right in). I actually built another SFF OptiPlex for my sister to use (a 7060 this time, with an 8th-gen i7, paired with a Sapphire Pulse RX 6400 low profile). I noticed that the 260 watt power supply it uses has the same connectors as the 240 watt unit in the 3050, so I'm tempted to get another 260 watt Dell OEM unit to replace the 3050's 240 watt unit. Hell, if I can find one that's 300 watts that'll be cool too. I was debating getting an i7-7700 to replace the i5-7500 in the 3050, but since these things can apparently use Xeons too (or so I heard in this video), I might just do that instead. Then just get another low profile RX 6400.

For this solution are good options a GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1650 Super, GTX 1660, RTX 3050. Older geforce also not so good, because of possible very high peak PWR. From AMD there are 2 option that maybe could be good: RX 4** / RX 5** with a very stong undervolt (max. 825mV-837mV and strong underclock (~ 900-1100 MHz) depends on ASIC quality and RX 5500 4GB/8GB

Be careful which 1650 you buy. There are 2 different styles. Ones a 6pin and one draws power off motherboard. 1650 OC i believe is the version that doesnt need anything plugged in and draws from the motherboard.
Have you heard of the Nvidia A2000 GPU? It's an Ampere generation (RTX 30 series) low-profile two-slot card without requiring PCIe supplemental power, so it's newer than a GTX 1650 but since it's targeted for the professional/enterprise segment, it's more expensive though... It's based on the GA106 chip, the same as the RTX 3060, but has a slightly reduced core count and is downclocked to stay at the 75W TDP range. And since it's a low-profile card, you can probably put them on the smaller SFF Optiplexes (if the 16x slot is on the top).
I snagged a Lenovo P500 for 150 on ebay. Got two sata to 6-pin adapter and combined with the 6pin that came with the PSU I added on a double six pin to 8 pin adapter to use an XFX RX 580 GTS Black Edition 8GB GPU with it. I can't use the overclock on the GPU because I will be met with instabilities, but the regular clock of 1257 is stable. I played VR Games like VRChat, Beatsaber, Blade and Sorcery to test and was surprised that for 300 bucks with GPU, Adapters, SSD and the PC I could get a VR Ready and AAA title gaming machine!
low profile would be ideal. you can still use the full size i/o bracket but because the board size is small you won't have to cut the case to make it fit.

what is the name of that benchmark tool u use to see the performance while ur playing the game?
msi afterburner, will post a link
www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner/graphics-cards
I got vary lucky and found a 3080 for $10 bucks a little bit back. Great video ty!
nice find and steal of a deal!!. the 3080 optiplex are great option!!
I was thinking you were talking about an RTX 3080 LMAO, I was like liar.... lol then realized it was in regards to an optiplex
@@MrBigeousd Same
5:12 can see you talking with your hand :D
😳😳 if i did not have hands i would not know how to talk lol...
where should i look if i want to upgrade the power supply? i don’t know much about pcs but i want to get into pc gaming from console, so i’m not sure where to look or how to know if it’ll be compatible with the case or components
to get a new psu you would need sfx psu and have to do a little modding to the case to make it work.
any sfx psu will work.
I added msi 1650 to same optiplex 3050 .. as you said I have kept the whole cpu opened. It is weird but works good .. worried about dust .. let's see
Just got one of these for around 30 bucks. Now that the arc a380 is out. Would it make sense to use one of those instead of a 1650?
not sure on the performance difference
I have a Optiplex 7050 and it comes with a 240W PSU and a i7-7700 so is the GT 1030 a good option for my PSU? (I only play CS:GO, Dota 2)
go with either a 1650 low profile or rx6400 low profile, they come with the height io bracket and the performance on them is great and they work with these stock psu
I have an optioplex 3050 that I installed a LP RX6400 into. When installed it won't make it past POST and stops at the Dell logo. If I hit any key the blue BIOS loading bar appears but again it won't go past POST. Any thoughts?
check and make sure CSM and or legacy support is disabled in the bios. I have seen that cause issues
Is it DIMM or UDIMM ram (im kinda new and im getting this with a 1650 and im upgrading it to 16gb ram and 256 m.2 nvme and idk which ram to buy (i think its dimm idk)
dimm
Be careful which 1650 you buy. There are 2 different styles. Ones a 6pin and one draws power off motherboard. 1650 OC i believe is the version that doesnt need anything plugged in and draws from the motherboard.
Witch is better bro, 7040 or 3050?
Have you heard of the Nvidia A2000 GPU? It's an Ampere generation (RTX 30 series) low-profile two-slot card without requiring PCIe supplemental power, so it's newer than a GTX 1650 but since it's targeted for the professional/enterprise segment, it's more expensive though...
It's based on the GA106 chip, the same as the RTX 3060, but has a slightly reduced core count and is downclocked to stay at the 75W TDP range.
And since it's a low-profile card, you can probably put them on the smaller SFF Optiplexes (if the 16x slot is on the top).
yea, I have heard they are decent for gaming, but the price is too much
That one Works on Optiplex 3050?
I snagged a Lenovo P500 for 150 on ebay. Got two sata to 6-pin adapter and combined with the 6pin that came with the PSU I added on a double six pin to 8 pin adapter to use an XFX RX 580 GTS Black Edition 8GB GPU with it. I can't use the overclock on the GPU because I will be met with instabilities, but the regular clock of 1257 is stable. I played VR Games like VRChat, Beatsaber, Blade and Sorcery to test and was surprised that for 300 bucks with GPU, Adapters, SSD and the PC I could get a VR Ready and AAA title gaming machine!
nice!!
sobre la 1050ti, serviria si fuera una low profile?, o habría otros problemas?
low profile would be ideal. you can still use the full size i/o bracket but because the board size is small you won't have to cut the case to make it fit.
Found a tossed out Dell Optiplex 3050 to-day! Think it has the i7 with Win 10. Can it be upgraded to Win 11? Thank you 🤓 has the DVD drive feature but a player isn't mounted
it can but you would have to look up the work around to run windows 11. besides windows 10 runs better for gaming in my opinion.
@@DLMtechgarage did a short test on it, & looks like the previous owner did a reset. The screen that asks for ones country, time zone, etc came up when first turned on! Hoping M'oft will extend the support for Win 10!
hey so I found a 200 6gb cheaper than a 1650 and was wondering if it would be compatible?
as long as it don't have supplemental power
I have i question i have a optiplex 3060 with 200 watts and i want to put a gtx 1650 but i can't fine a power suply is 240 good ?
dends on the cpu, i find the i5 to be safe with the 200 w. the 1650 uses 75 watt and with a 65 w tdp with the i5 you should be ok, just depnds on the drive you are using and the amount of usb's you are using, it could be close but may work.
Did your ram run at full speed? The dell website says it does support high speeds like 3200mhz, so will it work?
That's what I want to know?
Hello, I have a question! can I use an rtx 3050 with 600w power supply on an Optiplex 7020?
yup def can and easier to do!!
ik this is late but why wont my 1650 get detected i keep trying to download drivers but it wont work it keeps saying error code 43
that code usually means a hardware failure with the card, typically memory, might try a vbios flash, sometimes that brings it back around.
I have 3050 and while playing cpu on max 90 too hot cooler sounds too noicy what should i do😊
fresh thermal past and maybe add some ventilation like I did in the second part of this build series
I can put a 1660 ti without changing the power source or if I need to change it how many w do I need?
you would need to upgrade to a sfx power supply. 650 minimum in my opinion. Got a second part of this vide where I mod the case and show you how to upgrade the psu and gpu
What about a AMD 5700xt? Would I need to change the PSU? If so which one do you recommend? Currently have a 7050MT Optiplex with a i7.
You would have to change the PSU and also be mindful of the siye of the card cause of the limited space in this case
@@DLMtechgarage yes just saw your follow up video 😂 and saw what you did, i definitely would end up needing to do the same.
Can U check if Xeons will work in this PC?
Got similar one, with 6th gen, my research show that it will not be able to work with Xeons.
if i had one I would, too pricey to gamble... my research shows the same thing so far.
Will it fit a 3060 ti? Also if I add an i7 12th gen will it need a better cpu fan?
3060ti will fit with a psu upgrade, but 12th gen no due to it only being a 6th and 7th gen board
Hi I have question can I upgrade the CPU for Intel i5 11400f in this model
no, only 6th and 7th gen intel
I have an optiplex 3050, can I put an intel core i7 7700 or 7700k processor on it? The board is LGA 1151 socket accepts 6th and 7th generation Intel
yea you can run the 7700
Hello sir, i have a question...can the Galax dual fan version of the 1650 fit in this pc? And does it require external power? This will be my first ever "build" attempt and im really nervous so thanks a lot...
you would have to change the power supply and make sure the dimensions fit
@@DLMtechgarage So I should aim for the single fan and no external power version right? Thanks!
@@catraaa5261 yup
hi! what is the program you used for the fps counter on fortnite in this video?
msi afterburner
@@DLMtechgarage thanks!
once graphics is installed do u need to go through the process of downloading drivers for the graphics card.
Technically no since windows will install drivers by default, but definitely recommend going to Nvidia to download the most current driver
I’m gonna buy an HP Prodesk with an i5 6500 soon, gonna plop in a new PSU and a GTX 1060, wish me luck!
let me know how it goes!!
@@DLMtechgaragecompletely forgot about this comment. The system was able to run most games well enough, and I was able to snag an i7 6700 for free from a computer that was recycled at work. Runs most games without issue minus Warzone. I think it just needs more cores which Skylake can’t provide unfortunately.
Is invdia g force 730 works on case dell 3050 ? please replay
yes
Can i put a gtx 1650 gddr 6 in it instead of the gddr5 “important”
you can as long as you have the right power to it.
I would have put a RTX 4060 ITX version.
Can you do a case swap?
part two I am gonna be going over that!
Can the dell optiplex 3050/dell optiplex 7040 240 watts power supply be enough for nvidia 1660 super or amd rx 5700 xt ?
Nahh
that optiplex 30350 is compatible with the gtx660 I am interested to know
Only if you change the power supply. My new video on Wednesday will explain it
would a gtx 1660 be too power consuming for a dell optiplex
If you use the stock PSU then yes
So could I put a gtx 1060 3gb without changing anything?
no, it would need supplemental power
Is there anyway to use a 1660 super in this pc or how do you change the power supply to have more watts
Got a part 2 coming out soon. In that video I will show how to upgrade the PSU and even throw in a rtx 3060. Stay tuned!!
When do you plan on releasing the video?
@@Akg-uc2dr hopefully in the next two weeks.
6:06 can the gtx 1050 ti get enough power form the pcie alone?
depends if you use the non pcie power version then yes. if the card nees the pcie power then no.
Nvidia p-106-100 costs $20 in China It is exacxtly the same as 1060 6 gig but without external monitor connectors. It should work through built in graphics hdmi. I will try this on my dell 3050.
that's a pretty interesting idea!!
I am putting a rx 580 in my 3060. Will it fit? And will I need any adapters
depending on the model it can fit, the length and depth could be an issue like I said depending on the model. you would need to upgrade the psu though.
Hey bro tengo esa misma torre con un
I7 6700
GTX 1650 4gb GDDR5
16gb ram ddr4
2tb HDD
1tb SSD
M.2 SSD 250gb
Estara bien?
yea thats a good system.
main problem of these are psu and limits of motherboard
I have a SFF (*not*micro) version of this pc, would a GTX 1650 fit?
you need to use the low profile version.
@@DLMtechgarage Where would I find that? It's only showing me the 'super' version.
It's possible ? change the power supply for use a gtx 1660
Yup. Got a second video showing how to do that on the channel
The intel 8th gen uses the same socket lga 1151 couldn't you pop in an 8th gen cpu??
no bios support for it
Damn. :/
Can you do sli in these?
doubt it, limited space.
Do I need a power adapter for a asus 1650 for my Optiplex 3050 mt with 280+ watt power supply
you could try a sata to pcie
best bet is a low profile version that does not use power.
@@DLMtechgarage I got a pcie connector and n it works amaizngly your video really helped and informed me a lot thanks so much
i buy this pc model 7050 i7 7700 8gb ram at $140 with shipping. what is the best gpu for an i7 7700?
do you think it was very expensive even if it has a better cpu?
if thats USD then that a great deal. good gpu for that 7700 really depends on your budget as a rtx 3060 could work really well with it.
@@DLMtechgarage with the built-in default PSU?
@@sharifulalam385 with the stock gpu best you can hope for is a 1650 non pcie power version or the rx6400
I want to know what are the CPU fan speeds during gaming
I would say around 50 percent usage, still was pretty quiet
@@DLMtechgarage my fans just spin at 800 rpms no matter what
Can I put a rx 570 8gb without swapping the psu?
no, have to do the swap
do you added a bluetooth adapter? i have a 3050 SFF and i tried two different usb bluetooth dongle, but they have the same issues: the connection is not stable, and the sound stops randomly (tried with win10, ubuntu and debian).
never had the issue,
could be a power issue, also look for a bios update.
@@DLMtechgarage thank you for the answer. i don't think it's a power issue, i tried those "cpu stress" programs and it works perfectly. os, bios, drivers, etc are up-to-date.
i think it's a problem on my pc, not of the series, because no one has the same issue.
could be, I have seen that with a internal short on the board.@@massimo79mmm
@@DLMtechgarage well, it could be, i bought it second hand, maybe the previous owner dropped it or made some mistakes during a maintenance. thank you!
Can I put a 64GB in a dell 7040 mt if I can can you share me a link
not sure.
is this the mini tower?
Yeat
Great video as always. Why no m.2 tho? Cheers
saving it for part two. Was going for the easier cheaper option in this one.
Do you have any problems connecting this to the ethernet?
Nahh works fine
Hi I wanna know if I can use desktop like this for trading
what kind of trading? if it's just office stuff then yes!
Hey, I'm actually doing a build on this exact same PC. Do you think the 1650 or the rx 6400 would perform better? From what I've seen they are about the same
1650 is better, just the rx6400 is cheaper
Why are you using SATA SSDs when it has a slot for an NVMe drive? About the same price with 5x more performance.
It was one I had lying around. the nvme def the way to go.
what software u using to see the performance of the game?
