Holy crap, a CAW tutorial in 2022??? I used to love watching people create worlds before everyone forgot the Sims 3 and/or this tool existed, lol. I tried making a few of my own as well and had THE MOST fun building rabbit holes and community lots! For me it was a huge change of pace from my usual playstyle, which made it really fun. I was actually thinking about this tool recently because I've been on the hunt for a non-laggy tropical-themed town with dive lots to replace Isla Paradiso and wasn't really satisfied with my search, so thanks for this!

I've never attempted making a custom world, its always seemed so daunting! i wonder if I should give it a try... my patience might not be enough to learn the tool hahahah
Just start with a smaller map and do it in sessions... if you get flustered just save and quit. You will get the urge to go back in eventually, and at least you will have the basics sorted out.
Caw was one of the best additions in the Sims 3. My first encounter with sims games was the old Sim City from the 90s. So it took me back to my sims roots. I only managed to create 1 world. It's really involved if you want something large and realistic. One tip I would add. In the very beginning, determine which sides of the map are North, South, East and West. I use the paint tool to mark them. That way, you know which side of the map the sun rises and sets on, just for effect. * You can sample the Sun positions under the "Time of day" option under the View menu.
Creating a world and creating cc clothes for my Sims 3 sims is the dream. I've used CAW multiple times on my old laptops to try to create my own world, edit existing worlds, and just to play around and get used to it but I've never actually finished a world. I did quit out of frustration at times but I'm pretty sure that was more on me than CAW, lol. I have much better pc specs now so it should go a bit smoother than my earlier experiences. I remember my biggest issue was trying to connect multiple bridges together. I also never got around to trying to change water and sky colors like I wanted.
This is so easy to follow, thank you! I’ve tried dabbling so many times with CAW but all of my ideas were way too ambitious for my skill level and all the tutorials I found felt like reading a novel lol. I feel inspired to try again after watching this 💕
Just start small and take it slow. Make a road, a lot, a hill and a pond and see what you can get done. After that, it will be easier to make larger decisions. And you can always just exit without saving if you ruin it (I did this a few times lol)

I love all forms of creativity, especially create a world type things like for the sims 3 and Minecraft, it’s really fun to sit and create your own fictional world that is fully functional.
Very good tutorial, it would have helped me a lot 12 years ago. At the time I was in a Hispanic community of simmers and together with a user we tried to make the world of the sims 1, all the neighborhoods united in a single map. Since I didn't know how to use CAW, I was in charge of making the houses and businesses as similar as possible to TS1. Unfortunately the other user lost interest in the project and therefore the idea died.
@@Rekowcski Yes, it was a really ambitious project since you had to see how to unite all the roads between different TS1 maps, there are currently recreations of the world for TS3, however, most of them focus only on Old Town. I would like the CAW of TS5 to be a fundamental part of the game, I prefer that the base game comes with only one world but that we can modify it so that it looks like France, Greece, USA or even the moon.

You can always check out custom worlds for free as well. "CJPlays" on UA-cam reviews them every week so I usually just pop over there to see which worlds I might like in my game
idk what type of computers sims 3 youtubers have but this program is so slow on my laptop? i can play the sims 3 on high but cant run this program. as soon as i started placing roads it started lagging
so did i... the first 200 times i did this haha i swear it took me hours to figure out roads, but i hope this is basic enough to get you started with each step... the beauty and story is all up to you!
I really think the best way is just make a flat map, make a couple roads, lots, and maybe a mountain and a lake just to see how everything works to get started. Currently I am practising making worlds about the size of a sims 4 hood... so nothing crazy lol
@@Rekowcski honestly I just wanted to pull lots to connect to the roads because in a lot of the worlds the lots are a little far from the sidewalk and that makes me crazy. But you video made me notice that this is another game inside the sims 3. World adventures is another mini game too, so I wonder how many mini games we can find in this 10 years videogame.

Seemed promising for some help but every time I try to open it is says, quote "The Sims 3 Create a World Tool - Beta has crashed! Exception information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." And yet, and Yet, i have no issues with my Sims 3 game and its expansions that I own. I downloaded from the back up link provided (selecting the archived download since the big green "CAW download" didnt do anything) since the Sims Website tells me to register my game but yet every time i try it says its already be registered which is correct because i registered it to origin and it even says i dont need to register it twice but still tries to make me every time i try to download to tool. Long story short, The tool wont work for me, claiming something is corrupt. Which I doubt. I will be uninstalling it for the time being, if anyone comes up with a fix I will try it because i was rather excited to use this. And yes I did try to move it into the Documents/Electronic Arts, same thing happened.

I’ve always wondered how to make the world look like it’s coming from somewhere instead of being in the middle of nowhere, like making a road that goes to the end of the map that looks like it’s going somewhere haha. But of course not being able to see the end of the map or that road cause of the routing.

Hi I just downloaded the tool a view weeks ago and I’m ready to place some lots in edit town mood, but my CAW keeps redirecting me to the EA app and then my sims 3 launcher and if I try to run it it doesn’t show the create a world mode or my island. I just keeps redirecting me to the main screen we’re I can chose the town I want to play in. I tried exporting my world to my game but if I try to open it via my normal sims 3 town chosen thing it there is an error message that says the file is corrupt ( don’t know how to call it hope my story still makes sense) Do you know about the issue and do you have any solutions?
I had the same problem. You'll need to install the program at the same location of the gamefiles, in \Documents\Electronic Arts. NOT in \Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts
I've been trying to download CAW for YEARS! So I was extremely happy to find you had a download link! (As the sims 3 website won't show me one, and hasn't for years) But when I installed the CAW file, and opened the application it said it was corrupted? I've been trying to find any other links to download and they're all corrupted. I've been dreaming of creating my own world for almost 10 years now (I know! Crazy!) I loved this tutorial. It reminds me a lot of Sim City 4, which i know is the basis for a lot of what Sims 2 and Sims 3 is built on. I wish I could use this tool, but I play on a Mac and I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to make it run. I would love to be able to create a world that merged Willow Creek / Magnolia Promenade/ Newcrest into one cohesive place. They want to be the same world, I know they do.
Sims 2 world creation is still my favourite. It’s simple so you don’t have to spend forever on it. I find this tool is like... for SERIOUS world creators haha. I agree that nc, wc, and mp belong together. They use the exact same graphics and assets (I see u EA) lol

Recently uninstalled CAW after complete and total frustration. I wanted to build a world that was purely "inland". No beaches or ocean and not look like it was surrounded with water. Just an average midwest town. Tried using distant terrain and "blending" it with mountains I made but didn't look or blend well at all. lol. I might reinstall and try again but it kinda stinks everyones world is always an island or beachy and there seems to be no references out there.
This was such a fantastic video and it inspired me to finally create my own world! Unfortunately I am *so* late to this - both the video *and* the CreateAWorld tool - that it seems I can't get the download on the EA website to work any longer. If you see this - do you know a legit place to download the tool these days?

There's a few other fixes, both myself and acottonsock have sims 3 fix videos for various issues, as well as other creators... so I'm sure you'll find some help. 😁

someone using CAW in 2023? How do I get my world to be payed in the Game? The EIG doesn´t work with the new EA App. Whenever I klic on EIG it opens the EA App and tells me , that the Game can´t be started because of an issue they have. If I finished creating my world, how do I select it in Game?
I have used this before and successfully. Of course, I was modifying a world I love - Alpine Meadows... so many fir/pines, waterfalls and waterways! For those having a hard time with CAW, I'd suggest starting with a previously-created world. I don't think I ever had so much as a single routing issue and I made some of the steep hills and mountains accessible to my Sims. But, it's been years, so I am hoping your tutorial will help. Thanks!
At first I almost gave up but with some patience this tool is totally necessary to me, I love the process of making my own world with my own Sims with crazy stories. The important thing is testing the world in the game in order to see if everything is correct, but My god, I really love CAW.
Patience is key with sims 3 world creation... also with just building haha. But the more we practice, the faster we get and the easier it is! I am making a prototype world to see how it works and anything I forgot. Then I’ll make a “good copy” but you can always save and reuse builds if you mess up the map

I am making it in private when I get creative bites. If I film I am more focused on entertaining, but there me then odd video or stream about it! My world has 97 lots... sims 4 could never haha
Hey, thx a lot for the great tutorial! I also started gaming TS3 recently again and would like to create my own world. The only problem I have is that th Edit in Game function doesn't work for me and I don't know why. When I'm in CAW and click on EIG, the EA launcher pops up and starts immediately the TS3 Welcome Launcher Window (the one where I can select/ deselect the addons I want to play with). But that it's, no game starts nothing. If I klick in the launch window on start game, the actuals game starts without any CAW editing. Do you know this error or have any tipps how to solve it? Would really appreciate it!!!
dont launch it from the launcher, ive had this same problem before... i closed the launcher then hit "edit in game" again and it worked fine the second time for some reason, so give it a shot
@@Rekowcski Hey thx for tht tipp, unfortunately it is not working :( When the launcher opens and I close it the CAW doesn't allow t click EIG again, i have to close CAW and start new and have the same problem with the launcher again. Really don't know what to do :(

Unfortunately not. As far as I know, the program is just the beta tool that the developers used, they didn't plan to release it, then just let us have it because people kept asking.
I finally got CAW downloaded to my new computer and have been following this tutorial. It's been very helpful! I have a question though. When you click Edit in Game, go you need to go to the Sims 3 icon and start the launcher? I guess I don't know or understand how the game and CAW are connected. If I start the launcher, how do I find my practice world so I can try to edit it. Also, can I place lots I have created in some of my games and saved to the library?
It's May 2024 and Sims 3 still kicks ass. And Sims 4 is that uncle no wants to talk about. 😆

What about reviewing the custom worlds, there are bunch of great worlds, some players didn't know they exist, but they are such worth to play in!
I’ve heard some are better than the ea ones actually. I like a couple but they’re based off of sims worlds in other games lol

This was shared in a Sims 3 group, and I'm so glad I came across it! I've been wanting to create my own world for so long. Unfortunately, I'm having an issue starting with step one. :( When I click to download my compatible version, a blank white box comes up and nothing will happen. :( Does anyone know why, or what I can possibly do to fix it?

Hello. Once you make your world how do you add under water adventures or seasons or events in your world?
I’ve always wondered how to make the world look like it’s coming from somewhere instead of being in the middle of nowhere, like making a road that goes to the end of the map that looks like it’s going somewhere haha. But of course not being able to see the end of the map or that road cause of the routing.

You can still download it from a mirror site I think, but of course since they launched the new EA app the "edit in game" function is of course not working

Hi I just downloaded the tool a view weeks ago and I’m ready to place some lots in edit town mood, but my CAW keeps redirecting me to the EA app and then my sims 3 launcher and if I try to run it it doesn’t show the create a world mode or my island.
I just keeps redirecting me to the main screen we’re I can chose the town I want to play in.
I tried exporting my world to my game but if I try to open it via my normal sims 3 town chosen thing it there is an error message that says the file is corrupt ( don’t know how to call it hope my story still makes sense)
Do you know about the issue and do you have any solutions?

This is a long shot but do you have a working CAW file? all the ones i've tried downloading say theyre crashed as soon as I launch them
I had the same problem. You'll need to install the program at the same location of the gamefiles, in \Documents\Electronic Arts. NOT in \Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts
I've been trying to download CAW for YEARS! So I was extremely happy to find you had a download link! (As the sims 3 website won't show me one, and hasn't for years)
But when I installed the CAW file, and opened the application it said it was corrupted? I've been trying to find any other links to download and they're all corrupted.
I've been dreaming of creating my own world for almost 10 years now (I know! Crazy!) I'd love some help/ be pointed in the right direction!

*my reason of getting a Laptop, is to learn how this feature worked. ( My Father kept pushing some narrative that I needed to take up Architecture Software - or get disowned.) The Sims helped me - grow out of his small minded / Narcissist need to control people.

I loved this tutorial. It reminds me a lot of Sim City 4, which i know is the basis for a lot of what Sims 2 and Sims 3 is built on. I wish I could use this tool, but I play on a Mac and I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to make it run. I would love to be able to create a world that merged Willow Creek / Magnolia Promenade/ Newcrest into one cohesive place. They want to be the same world, I know they do.
Sims 2 world creation is still my favourite. It’s simple so you don’t have to spend forever on it. I find this tool is like... for SERIOUS world creators haha. I agree that nc, wc, and mp belong together. They use the exact same graphics and assets (I see u EA) lol

I don't know if you ever figured it out but for me the issue was fixed by downloading the correct version of caw again!
Recently uninstalled CAW after complete and total frustration. I wanted to build a world that was purely "inland". No beaches or ocean and not look like it was surrounded with water. Just an average midwest town. Tried using distant terrain and "blending" it with mountains I made but didn't look or blend well at all. lol.
I might reinstall and try again but it kinda stinks everyones world is always an island or beachy and there seems to be no references out there.
This was such a fantastic video and it inspired me to finally create my own world! Unfortunately I am *so* late to this - both the video *and* the CreateAWorld tool - that it seems I can't get the download on the EA website to work any longer. If you see this - do you know a legit place to download the tool these days?

Thank you that's such a compliment 💕 If you need help with lag, check out "sims 3 smooth patch", that can help quite a bit if you don't have it installed already. There's a few other fixes, both myself and acottonsock have sims 3 fix videos for various issues, as well as other creators... so I'm sure you'll find some help. 😁

someone using CAW in 2023? How do I get my world to be payed in the Game? The EIG doesn´t work with the new EA App. Whenever I klic on EIG it opens the EA App and tells me , that the Game can´t be started because of an issue they have. If I finished creating my world, how do I select it in Game?

I have used this before and successfully. Of course, I was modifying a world I love - Alpine Meadows... so many fir/pines, waterfalls and waterways! For those having a hard time with CAW, I'd suggest starting with a previously-created world. I don't think I ever had so much as a single routing issue and I made some of the steep hills and mountains accessible to my Sims. But, it's been years, so I am hoping your tutorial will help. Thanks!
How do you modify pre existing worlds?
i remember using create a world but i cant remember how many minutes i made it before i ragequit given i was like 11 💀
At first I almost gave up but with some patience this tool is totally necessary to me, I love the process of making my own world with my own Sims with crazy stories. The important thing is testing the world in the game in order to see if everything is correct, but My god, I really love CAW.
Patience is key with sims 3 world creation... also with just building haha. But the more we practice, the faster we get and the easier it is! I am making a prototype world to see how it works and anything I forgot. Then I’ll make a “good copy” but you can always save and reuse builds if you mess up the map

@@Rekowcski You're too nice! But I only play Sims 3, currently working on a world. I find Sims 4 too bland and shallow, and I haven't played that game in ages. In Sims 3, on the contrary, I spend HOURS. Can't wait to see your new building content, and steal some of your ideas ;)

Thank you, I spend hours in CAW, and it tripped me up because I didn't figure out how to edit in game, an now it looks so simple OTL. I'm definitely going to try again, because it never sat right with me that Roaring Heights had no space for Night Life lots.
“Edit in game” from the create a world tool is so much faster for trees and lots and stuff, in my opinion

sorry, I wasn't listening all the way, so sorry if you already said something but, are you gonna create a world? if so, make a video stream of you building it but not all the way so that it can still be a surprise and maybe you can get some extra videos by having tours of it, maybe?
I am making it in private when I get creative bites. If I film I am more focused on entertaining, but there me then odd video or stream about it! My world has 97 lots... sims 4 could never haha
Hey, thx a lot for the great tutorial! I also started gaming TS3 recently again and would like to create my own world. The only problem I have is that th Edit in Game function doesn't work for me and I don't know why.
When I'm in CAW and click on EIG, the EA launcher pops up and starts immediately the TS3 Welcome Launcher Window (the one where I can select/ deselect the addons I want to play with). But that it's, no game starts nothing. If I klick in the launch window on start game, the actuals game starts without any CAW editing. Do you know this error or have any tipps how to solve it? Would really appreciate it!!!
dont launch it from the launcher, ive had this same problem before...
i closed the launcher then hit "edit in game" again and it worked fine the second time for some reason, so give it a shot

When the launcher opens and I close it the CAW doesn't allow t click EIG again, i have to close CAW and start new and have the same problem with the launcher again. Really don't know what to do :(

Unfortunately not. As far as I know, the program is just the beta tool that the developers used, they didn't plan to release it, then just let us have it because people kept asking.

How do you edit a pre existing world?
I finally got CAW downloaded to my new computer and have been following this tutorial. It's been very helpful! I have a question though. When you click Edit in Game, go you need to go to the Sims 3 icon and start the launcher? I guess I don't know or understand how the game and CAW are connected. If I start the launcher, how do I find my practice world so I can try to edit it. Also, can I place lots I have created in some of my games and saved to the library?
Before we go any further, do you play sims 3 on the EA app or steam?
