    This video was great. I love how you’re kind of having the conversation with yourself about what is better and why it’s better. That better doesn’t necessarily mean better. It’s very cool to see this evolution in your style and perception of it. Bravo.

      Thanks! I really appreciate that. My perspective has certainly changed in several ways over the years. No doubt about that.

    Very informative video as usual Jake. I picked the motors over the attractions for my first pair of engineers based on your review. Can't wait for your take on the attractions! I've read on one of the reddit reviews that they use a "high density foam filler" in their mid soles. I'm not entirely sure if that is a good thing or simply a cost cutting measure.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Рік тому +1

      That doesn't sound like a good thing to me... nice choice though! I hope you enjoy the Motors!

    I have a pair of Lofgrens and a pair of Clinch. I like the Clinch better, but possibly because my tastes have changed over time. The Clinch toe area looks a lot more graceful. The height of the toe area of the Lofgrens just looks slightly clown-shoey to me. The Lofgrens are also quite a bit rounder at the toe looking top-down. Toe area aside, the Lofgrens also have a little design element on the welt preventing you from seeing the upper tuck under. Entirely subjective, but I don't prefer that. I have zero complaints about the Clinch boots, and the horsebutt is going to look killer once they're worn-in.
    I will say the Lofgrens take all but 2 hours to break-in. The chromexcel is very soft.

      As someone starting to wear rolling dub and looking at moto right now, the clown shape growing on me. With wider/single/double pleat higher rise, it is a certain esthetic. I think because you looking at the toe really close, but from another person checking out your boots at eye level, it isn't clowny.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Рік тому

      IMO, they are both great designs. I think you are referring to the storm welt on the Lofgren boots. That is pretty unique among engineers, but used on other boots. I do agree that the Clinch last is just gorgeous looking.

      @almostvintagestyle  Рік тому

      @@shiningyrlife Yeah from any distance, I would not call the Lofgren clowny at all. It's not as sleek, but it is well balanced.

    The problem with the Clinch Engineers is that the shaft is very, very narrow. Of course, that makes it difficult to slip in, but once you're in, everything's okay. This is important to consider before making a blind purchase. So if you have wide, thick, fleshy feet with a fairly high instep and instep, it can be very difficult to put on and take off.

    I know it’s a vintage style baseball cap but I think a cool trucker would look better with the outfits. I prefer the Roll Clubs but you should mention Julian’s. I’ve got some and they are quality. The plus was these were about 1/2 the price due to a flaw I can’t see at all. They fit like they were bespoke for me anyway. I think he did boots for RRL back a while ago.

    I totally get the all black look over the brown edging. What do you think about the Quan shoemaker engineers? The shaft narrows at the ankle.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Рік тому +3

      I just find it a bit boring. It's certainly not objectively bad, just not my preference. I prefer leather with more visible grain, more color depth, and character.

      @@almostvintagestyle Thanks for the reply! Was curious because CXL seems kinda popular in Japan.

      @almostvintagestyle  Рік тому +3

      @@sash1ya I have talked to Japanese brands about that, actually. They say it is because of how much it rains there. CXL handles rain well.

    I've owned 3 pairs of early Clinch's. My Zerrow's Flat Last engineers are better in fit, construction, and looks to me.

    I love your outfit! Minus the hat.
    It clashes too much for my taste, but I'm also not Almost Vintage; I'm a Zer0.
    How many hands construct the Clinch boot? Vs... I don't know, Role Club? Call me biased. I give Clinch a GREAT rating, don't get me wrong. Great, but not legendary. The engineer boot is an American boot and is probably made best by an American master craftsman. One man made my boots, and I'm Brian, all the way 🙌 Role Club for the win. If I'm shelling out that kind of cash, I want the best performance done by an artist. Love your work!
