I'm so glad you gave a shout out to vintage ebay Engineer boots. I bought a pair of goodyear welted american made carolina engineer boots for 90 dollars.
Always good to see Albert. I have two pairs, a pair of Mr. Lou’s in natural chromexel and a new pair from Imperium in Indonesia in black Shinki. I did experience heel slip in the Wescos which I finally fixed with some good insoles. I haven’t worn the Imperiums yet, waiting for fall on those.
Great video boys! Nick, you absolutely will rock an engineer. Much more versatile than I originally thought and glad that I have taken the plunge. Awesome video!
@@Stridewise Great question. I guess you could argue that there is more material. Larger panels across the vamp than in lace up boots. And, I suppose fewer lasts to choose from. Mostly, I think because there are many few bootmakers out there making engineers, less demand, etc., so cost of production higher. Or, maybe because us buyers are willing to pony up!
I have two pairs of engineers... between watching Albert and Jimmy on the Man Cave Club and Jake with Almost Vintage Style,, i couldn't resist.. i have black horsehide CXL Mr. Lou's from Wesco and just got in brown Shinki John Lofgrens,, just like one of Albert's videos on em,, that dark brown flat welt.. I'm really starting to enjoy this style of boot.. its just so easy not having to lace up.. I do need to broaden my jean collection now though bc most of mine are tapered as well and selvedge doesn't stretch one bit lol so i can't really force it
Just picked up a pair of Attractions lot 444 engineers in brown crust horsebutt. Cannot wait. Have a pair of Moto(r) black dress engineers, love em. A pair RW 8268 Roughout engineers too. All on eBay for way less than retail, happy hunting
I see engineer boots video, I watch! I definitely miss wearing my Wesco Quick Strikers right now. They don't agree with my Indigo Invitational pair due to the opening. 😭
Frye engineers were my first GYW boots, still wear them 12 year later, most of which they were my go to footwear. I’ll always have a pair of engineers in my closet.
Nick. You should try a pair of Briselblack engineers as a first pair. You know your size with them already and their new Ben last is pretty cool. Maybe a pair of 8” short stacks.
I’ve been wearing engineer boots since I was young. Just got a pair of John Lofgren Wabash in burgundy CXL. I have no problem getting them on or off. They look pretty sharp.
Yooo Albert! Also, I am amazed at how few comments I get when I wear mine. I thought for sure I’d have people say stuff. I’ve even worn mine to the office. One guy thought they were super cool. No one else said anything lol.
Good stuff but from what I have heard and read, the origin is not with railroad engineers but surveyors. They were for riding horses to sites and walking overgrown and uneven ground. Kind of an urban riding boot, which, I think, is why motorcyclist took to them so readily.
I just picked up some Chippewa Engineer boots- I think they’re a different version though as the Vibram soles are really rugged. Anyone know the difference or intended use?
I was curious about engineer boots. Looks cool but I find boots over 6-inch are a struggle to boot on & off every day even if they’re lace. Even though the side zipper is mostly useful but it just look wrong on these types of tall boots.
Yeah I think most of it has to do with them almost all being either from Japan or from very small US makers. If you can find them from bigger brands like Chippewa or Red Wing it's not so bad
I bought the Wesco Mister Lou early in my boot journey. I thought I’d like it more than I actually do. The wait times are ridiculous now and i honestly wouldn’t get another pair.
Feel like Thursday would do a great job breaking engineers more into the mainstream. If they could do it for around 500 bucks I feel that would a game changer
Make a side-zip engineer style and I’m game. Otherwise, they are simply too hard to get a comfortable fit and it’s really aggravating. For now, I typically go with ropers.
Another thing about Clinch is it's suuuuuper uncomfortable. It's super super narrow. A lot of made in Japan boots(that includes Attraction) does not have wide width option which is a major deal breaker for people with wide foot(2E).
I lived in NYC for decades and alas now live miles away. Albert said something that my non-NYC friends don't often understand and that was once off to work in the AM you'd be out all day and much of the night and so having the right jacket for the whole day and shoes/boots were key to city survival.
Yeah the other day I used an NYC public bathroom in loafers and as soon as I walked into that hellhole I was like "oh I remember why I prefer boots in NYC, my feet do not feel protected in this environment" haha
I was curious about them but decided that they weren't for me. I prefer the heritage style boots with laces, just recently brought a set of Chelsea boots which I have some mixed feelings about. Engineer boots have a look that I'm not really thrilled about...plus they are heavy. If I was concerned about snake bites or hot embers, I would probably get a 8" or 10" logger, but to each his own.
Albert's line about wanting to feel more protected with thicker leather in New York rang true for me, the other day I used a public bathroom on Hudson river with loafers on and I instantly remembered why boots and New York go together. My feet did not feel protected hahah
@@Stridewise i hear ya. I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum, but the engineer is a very particular boot that just isn’t that versatile (unless you’ve got a IDGAF approach to clothing, which if you do, more power to ya!).
Albert is one of the coolest guys out there. Infectious energy
Albert! Instant watch.
i also drop everything if he says he has a free night to hang out. few guys are more fun to watch kung fu movies with!

Those old school Carolinas are a vibe.

I'm just getting into less tapered jeans so perhaps this season is the time to take the plunge - but why are they so much pricier than most boots!

You have to love Albert and son that boy looks good in those boots.
Carolina Stopped making their Engineer Boots. Love your video. Gave a lot of information.

i just started to become interested in these. then this video drops. are they starting to trend?
i don't think they're more popular now than they were last year or anything, but they deserve more eyes for sure
Much needed guide!
Thanks!

I just watched Stand By Me and all the bullies in that movie have engineer boots, this video makes me want to bully
@@Stridewise ha Bully for you!
Nice! Love Albert!!
Yooo Albert!

Freebird (the women’s brand) has a men’s line that includes a relatively inexpensive engineer boot.
I might have to pair these with a trench coat i bought recently
Love to get a pair one day. The style goes way back into English & German history and horse riding...
Duke of Wellington.
Best socks for engineer boots?

Man engineers are expensive, just a lot of leather to make these types of boots. I’m good with a good old fashioned lace up boots lol.
Yeah I think most of it has to do with them almost all being either from Japan or from very small US makers. If you can find them from bigger brands like Chippewa or Red Wing it's not so bad
The real tough guys wear steel toe engineer boots. That’s how I remember it in New York City back in the 80s. They were popular with the street gangs.
If I were an engineer I would certainly get one of these! 🧐
Any Engineer Boots for short Men because I am 5'4
Are there any slim Engineer Boots also any in a 7 men US
Albert is great 👍
It's a privilege to live in his neighborhood!
I recently sold a vintage pair on e*** , and I was surprised how high they went.
I bought the Wesco Mister Lou early in my boot journey. I thought I’d like it more than I actually do. The wait times are ridiculous now and i honestly wouldn’t get another pair.
Hey you can always sell em - the scarcity of engineers means they get snapped up on the second hand market pretty quick
Wesco absolutely the best of the best for engineer boots long wait 2 years but worth it
I’d like to see Thursday Boots release their take on a classic engineer style boot.
that could be cool! i wonder if it's too old timey to fit with such a modern brand, or maybe this model is just right for some modernization
Jim Green too.
Feel like Thursday would do a great job breaking engineers more into the mainstream. If they could do it for around 500 bucks I feel that would a game changer
I'd buy a budget friendly engineers
Or Beckett Simonon!
my favorite engineers 1 rios of mercedes 2.viberg 3 mr. lous 4 nicks boots x carl m. some more affordable 1 frye 2 schott nyc 3 Double H
Cool! I just filmed a video with CJ Cook on UA-cam on his collection of like 30 Rios boots, keep an eye out for it!
What kind of watch are you wearing in the video?
Vaer! It's this funky green GMT ... which is sold out, dang vaer-watches.sjv.io/vNLOd3
Albert's the dude , you want to emulate but simply can't.
Make a side-zip engineer style and I’m game. Otherwise, they are simply too hard to get a comfortable fit and it’s really aggravating. For now, I typically go with ropers.
Allen Edmonds has zip up engineer boots on sale now.
Can anyone ID the black boots on 2:12? Please
Another thing about Clinch is it's suuuuuper uncomfortable. It's super super narrow. A lot of made in Japan boots(that includes Attraction) does not have wide width option which is a major deal breaker for people with wide foot(2E).
Old cowboy trick. When you first put them on and you can feel your pulse in your foot, they are too tight.
4:05 UH OH 🤣
People always yell at me for talking over my guests so I love that Albert wouldn't let me in this video haha
Wescos have to be the fugliest looking engineer boots out there. The rest look great!
Shame they didn’t mention Whites Nomads. That’s all I wear.
I love engineer boots but any time id wear an engineer boot, id rather wear a roper cowboy boot
I dream of being able wear boots like this or chelsea boots with my freakish mutant ankles and feet.
Fit, form and function is the foundation of mens fashion. The history of the straps and the functionality is missing from this video.
Functionality mentioned at 9:54
Cordoba has a cheaper engineer too
Amazing video, but that background music is just not it.
Maybe I’ll just stop doing background music, someone always hates it
Those are rocker boots.
Engineers look cool, but I’ll take a side zip over them any day. Im not a fan of buckles, same with monk straps.

They look great as long as jeans are not cuffed...then they look stupid.
First 🤓

Imo Chelsea’s and side zips do everything engineers do without the cos play effect.

Chippewa boots are garbage.....
Just stuff your skinny jeans in the engineer boot shaft like people do with cowboy jeans!
Seriously ??😂😅
Hi Nick, I agree with you. Engineer boots are stupid and fit like crap, I can tell from the design alone.
