- Come on board Thai Airways' amazing 747 First class from Bangkok to Munich. My first time with Thai Airways in F and their world famous ground service, and everything lived up to my expectations. Unfortunately my connection time was too short to enjoy the spa, but I got to sample the menu in the lounge, and had some of the best tom yum soup I ever had.
The catering onboard was on a level that I have not often encountered. Everything was meticulously and beautifully plated. More importantly, everything tasted as good as it looked.
It was an unforgettable flight.

I must sayThai Airline service and food on board are excellent. I flew business class from Bangkok to Sweden three years ago and it was wonderful.

Good evening!!!! Let me tell you my appreciation of your report: it’s so complete, clean cut, detailed, that I could fairly feel that I was onboard with you and also enjoying the lounge. Despite another comments, your descriptions fill in the gaps with precise notes about what most travelers do care in their journeys. Don’t get me wrong, I respect all of the opinions and points of view, but considering that there are so many vloggers these days I feel happy to having found out a trip report that’s really worth watching for 24 minutes. Great review! I've flown on Thai before for domestic flights within Thailand in coach and business class and have enjoyed it. I've also flown on Thai when they offered the 17 hr non-stop service between NYC and BKK years ago and felt it was the best flying experience ever in coach.
Now after seeing this review I need to check out Thai's first class lounge one day
Great report on what looks like a great flight. I like your enthusiasm--that you appreciated the food and the service rather than taking it for granted or nitpicking. Like you, I would forego some sleep in order to enjoy meals like that; I can sleep at home but I can't get food like that.

I have never seen so much food, so many courses, presented to be eaten by a single passenger on one flight. I would be overwhelmed at the quality, and more importantly, the quantity! I couldn't cope with this much food.

Nice trip report! It's always cool to fly on a 744. The staffs at the airport were amazing, they treated you as a VIP. That's the best ground service I've ever seen so far.

good old 747's, always this rattlling noise as if the plane was going to fall in too pieces on takeoff.. Loved it :) ( Miss the 747 :(( )
If u compare first class on the middle east airlines qatar etihad Emirates vs the east asian Singapore thai and cathay. While both are luxurious and pamper u , i feel the east asian ones have better staff. Thai singapore and cathay staff genuinely make u feel warm and welcome . And they take care of even the smallest needs u have

I think it may have something to do with the cultural respect for others that East Asians have in general. Like bowing to people etc. Arabs don’t have that, and the mish-mash of their vast multi national crews dosent help either.

Far Eastern cultures promote honoring guests with refined service and attention to detail, and like it or not, they value status and money, so that the staff will treat the wealthy customers in First with a sense of subdued diligence and zero toxic behavior. Furthermore, these airlines primarily serve their own people, so the culture within the airline is consistent, with the customers and employees sharing the same values, and the job of cabin crew being prestigious in East Asia, the social gap is not so steep either.
Middle Eastern/Gulf states airlines on the other hand, are run by English speaking Westerners in management and a multicultural, generally European x Southern countries melting pot of rather young, inexperienced in-flight staff delivering the hard work, that could as well be based anywhere in Western Europe, culturally speaking. They don't have neither the Middle Eastern background or knowledge, nor do they have a clear cultural identity as a whole, and they typically have very little in common with the people they attend to on board. The premium product is designed to suit the tastes of the locals and impress outsiders (typically tourists to Dubai or Doha etc), and not all crew have gotten over their previous ordinary lives. Therefore, it's more guaranteed to be a hit or miss.

I once had a flight with thai airlines and ordered vegetarian meals,i have to say that it really was the best food i ever had in flights!!!
I used to fly that business class from London. Wasn't the most comfortable, but it was affordable. I wish they would bring it back.

My first thought when seeing the menu for breakfast was "what a disgrace" because it did not have any Thai options. But the egg did look good indeed....

Enjoyed your video. Thai is one if the few Airlines I have not flown on. If I’m remembering correctly, I think Pan Am had some of their galleys on their 747s like the one in the beginning of your video.

In fairness, however, according to Seat Guru, TG only has F on its Long Haul Heavies, the A380 and the B747

TG is one of my favourites. I've been to Thailand about 12 times on business and TG fly from Perth Australia where I live. It always puts me in a good mood, but for some reason TG is nearly always late getting into BKK, a lot of delays stooging around flying in circles over the Gulf of Thailand. Don't know why.
Karl P lucky that you have TG as an option though. Qantas is also a great airline.
Hey, thanks for a great review. Their soft product looks great - incredible customer service, attention to detail and great food. Maybe their hard product needs an upgrade - switching planes all the time etc. I flew on a 747-400 LHR-LAS last year and had forgotten how noisy and dry they were compared to newer models! Can’t believe that’s what we flew all the time when I was younger.
Suggestion - I enjoyed reading your reflections in the subtitles, but tbh there was quite a lot to read and it did sometimes mean I took my eyes off the main screen and what was happening.

When the same thing happened to me the guide hassled the security manager to go to the op of the line. Same with KE and others. TG do have good ground services but uncompetitive in F class

If you plan on a LUFTHANSA flight in F I suggest to fly from Frankfurt to enjoy their seperated Firstclass Terminal ( no connecting flights prior!). And: LH is serving garlic bread for many years. Enjoy 👍
My uncle (my dad's cousin) was appointed Thai Airways's Chairman of the Board last year (2020) he was the Commander of the Royal Thai Air Force prior to that. Ever since Covid-19 hit the world, Thai Airways have gone bankrupt and is going through a lot of restructuring. He and the director have constantly come under fire for failing to salvage the business.
I find that the thai 747 1 st class is almost nicer than the 1 st class in thai a 380.
I am pretty new to this subject, and I am delighted I found it. Also very happy to have found your contributions, which I really enjoy. However, because I am new to it, I find the many many initials quite bewildering and it does annoy me a little because I don't understand their full meaning.
I know there are limitations on time and space, but is it possible, please, for a glossary of some sort to be placed somewhere?

For many years, Thai fell off the map. It couldn't even make Skytrax's top 40 airlines, but now it's back with a vengeance. Once again, it's in Skytrax's Top 10 Airlines of the World. There must've been a change in top management bc now Thai does so many things right with extra attention paid to the smallest details. The service and catering now rivals the very best airlines. Singapore better watch out cuz Thai is nipping at their heels! The food presented here looks absolutely stunning. You were not exaggerating when you said best meal in your life. I can taste it thru the screen!

great video. 747-8i is a very plane. u as the first class passenger should write tg letter asking them to buy some 7478i. word from your mouth will be lot more convincing.

You dont get a refund in most cases since it is in the terms of carriage I believe that equipment swaps can happen. However they might be courteous if you raise it as an issue with a manager.

Awesome report! I recently flew BKK-SYD in THAI First on the 747. Loved the seat, the friendly service and the aircraft. Unlike you, I found the catering to be disappointing! The beef main course was dry and boiled rice for breakfast was nothing special. I’ve had much better meals in their Business Class.
Yeah I have read less than stellar reviews about the food in other reports but I got very lucky.
What does Y and J class mean? It’s hard to understand sometimes when you abbreviate words

Asia Travels it’s good
My camera is actually falling apart. Autofocus isnt great, the threads are falling off, buttons are worn down. Its been through beer spills, salt water sprays, and minor falls, but still keeps on shooting. Nikons are pretty durable!
If you think Thai's first class is good, you should do an AF la premiere (on boeing 777, AF a380's la premiere seats aren't as good as the 777's), you will be surprised about it
Oh AF and Swiss have some of the most beautiful and finest F cabins. But unfortunately I haven't figured out a schedule to fly with them. It is a much longer often expensive trip to fly via Europe to get to Asia.
I would be interested on your thoughts of GA's long haul First class product.

I'm actually thinking about routing my trip to DPS the long way, going LAX-?-DPS on one carrier, then DPS-LHR on GA just to try the first class, it turns the whole thing into a Around the World series of flights, but I can always find a reason to be in London and getting from there to the West Coast isn't difficult.
Glad you enjoyed the flight. The lounge seems special... terrific way to begin the journey. EVA Royal Laurel's seat appears more spacious & comfortable, plus the Thai Air menu lacked beef and/or chicken dishes - too much fish & pork. Also, Thai's liquor list was missing some cordials and aperitifs though the wine & champagne selections looked fine. Finally, I prefer the all-female FA crews on EVA Air (just a personal preference). It would take a lot to knock Singapore off from the top perch, but you can tell Thai is trying very hard.
My studio has more room and doesn't shake that much. I also have a one toilet.🚾
Tue about the downgardes and even change of aircraft with old seats if only pax. Ask to go another carrier and they pay the difference especially if they cannot tell you how much the refund will be.
the first class lounge looks a bit better than the business class lounge in BKK, no food to speak of and very tired and worn out looking - already needs a upgrade

B747 Thai is a very old plane should be retired long time ago . This is a reason I will fly Thai intil they switch to newer on SYD -BKK route

I've a bad experience with this airways ( we're having business class that time ), the female flight attendant and also the CSD are f*cking rude, my family try to have a conversation with them after the flight, but they just showing the bad attitude to us and acting like we were annoying them. the CSD even doing the bad gesture to chase away us. we swear that we won't travel with this airways any more though there are no airways to BKK anymore. And I'm not surprise that they from a 5 star airline dropped to 4 star. what a shame.
