Dude, thank you so much for your videos. There is nothing more frustrating in Squad when you have an SL who is totally lost. I've been playing for a few months and I've been seeing this need for good Squad leaders. You give the perfect guides to do this. And, I just took squad lead for my first two games. It was tough, half the time I still wasn't sure what I was doing, but I remembered your advice from this video series and it got me and my squads through. Nobody yelled at me from either within my squad or outside it. I made lots of mistakes and so did my team as a whole, and it seemed we were losing half the time. But, we ended up fighting to a near stalemate then pushed onto an objective and won it. The people are the best part of Squad. Even though my squad got torn apart and surrounded by the enemy over and over, nobody complained, we just bit our upper lip and kept maneuvering and fighting. So, my advice to other people who've been playing Squad and looking to take SL, do it. Maybe you suck at fighting in Squad like I do (I'm lucky if I get more than 2-4 kills in a match). But, being good at killing the enemy doesn't make you a good SL. Keeping your squad fighting as a cohesive unit focused on the objectives is what makes a good SL. It'll be messy, half the time you won't know what the hell is going on, and it is a ton of responsibility and stressful. And don't expect to kill many enemy personally. But, focus on logistics and the big picture and try to keep your squad on the objective. Give general orders, keep people together, never give up, and project confidence. Let your squad do the fighting. And if anybody gives you trouble, let it roll off your back, because you are performing a service to others and doing your best. Talk and communicate as best you can. I found it very rewarding despite the challenge.
Couldn't have said it better! I find squad leading cathartic/rewarding, but not necessarily fun. I've only got 100 hours and have squad led probably more than I have not from about 15hrs simply because I was forced into the role when 9 out of 10 times, the existing SL doesn't know what he's doing, you assist him (thanks to having watched tutorials like these), and he eventually asks if you can take over. Or they create a squad and immediately leave, or 3/4s of staging goes by and nobody has the courage to start a squad - usually you can tell this was the case when within a second of creating one it's full. I also [mostly] suck at actual combat. My ping is always high and my PC isn't the best so I struggle sometimes in CQB, but also with the understanding of movement and game meta - the latter is getting better thankfully. The community are almost always supportive, even when you screw up, and there is no better feeling than having your squad thank you for your efforts at the end of a match and even friend you to ask when you will be squad leading again - this is a win for me, even if we lost the match, it shows you gave your best and other recognise this
I've got about 400 grunt hours in squad. I've Lead a squad about 3 or 4 times. While they were a complete disaster and we actually turned the tide on a few games by being proactive, I still feel like I don't really know what I'm doing as an SL. These videos lay it out quite nicely and give you a nice SOP to follow if you're getting confused on what to do. Very nice. Thanks!
Another great video. I've been playing Squad since v7 and there's always more to learn. It's a game that can develop real world leadership skills if applied.
Just checking the wiki and it says that on Invasion maps, the attacking team gets +100 tickets for capturing control points. That seems like a significant change! Even more reason to attack the attackers early on the first few flags than to sit back and give them up for free
Hey man, I watched part one a couple days ago and was disappointed there was no part two. I've been feeling a lot more comfortable with leading, the advice you gave about the script at the beginning really sets the mood for how the game is going to go. Thanks man for part two. Subbed.
Theres alot of people who lose their shit on this game.. its laughable. Theres also alot of people who are really good and just have fun. they make the game well worth it. !! Thanks again for taking the time to make another video.
I remember taking out that Bradley. The crew had no idea we were on the ground so they thought it was safe to exit and repair. But alas we were waiting for them lol.
They need a rank system not for unlocks but for for progress and encouragement to be on objectives. Currently the only point of playing is for fun sitting on defense when no one is attacking is not fun and you gain a high score for defending but when the game ends what does that score mean? It shows for 20 seconds at the end of the game and then is gone and forgot about. If getting that high score ment something like it was put to a rank or shown in someway on your profile maybe people would be happier to do things like Logi runs and defending objectives as they know there will be a reward for it when the game ends. Currently the fun of the game lies in firefights and getting kills which means people want to be where the action is leaving flanks open defense flags abandoned and head on head fights to happen a lot. Currently the score system would work great for a rank system based on score as all the support roles and things that help the team gain higher scores than kill greedy people. A medic will out beat score of most other classes which would encourage people to go medic.. Logi runs helps give big score for players who are new and less comfortable in firefights, Being on objectives gives your squad huge score bonuses instead of squads sitting at a FOB off point wasting 9 members of the team. Everything that helps the team gives higher scores however the high scores mean nothing there for not a lot care about there score and are only interested in getting kills and firefights which is not what Squad is ment to be about.
You know, I completely understand your point here. I don't play for the points personally, in fact, I rarely even look. Sometimes when I am in a lot of firefights, I pay attention at the end. But for me, I am in it for the people I am playing with. With the comms in this game, thats on pace for my favorite aspect of Squad. Example, when we are back capping, thats when the squad I'm with is usually being funny as hell in comms and dancing around, things like that. When we are in combat, it usually gets pretty serious. Either way, thats what drew and keeps me with Squad. A good SL in my opinion will let his people have fun when appropriate and demand seriousness and respect of the comms when needed. That imho is what is "sim" about squad. As for these tutorials, EXCELLENT!!! This gives me the confidence to do what so few do, and this is to SL. Time to go to the shooting range and familiarize myself with the commands then jump in the fire! Thank you for these videos! You've done a great service for this community.
@@PyxisGuru yeah the group of people who enjoy the game and respect it for what it is like myself enjoy doing the tasks we know we have to do however dull they might get but the thing is the game is a game run by a developer team who want to make money at the end of the day which means they need to appeal to More than 1000 people who play the game how it's ment to be played. They need to encourage the other thousands of players to play the game as intended and most people need objectives and encouragement to do that. If you find the right servers it's fun as squad leaders and community can organise them selves however if you go to your non normal servers and hop between a bunch of randoms it's soon apparent the game becomes un fun as not all servers have people who play the game correctly.
I'm pretty sure the devs have been very open about no interest in "unlocks" or persistent ranks. I think they're trying to avoid having unnecessary hate on players/unavoidable handicaps, etc. It's already bad enough if you're in a community/clan and getting onto the same team by random. Everyone says you're "stacking" etc.
Captain, just a little thing: i think that if you add a 0:00 timer into your description, it will divide the video into chapters on the timeline. You could name it "Intro".
A video identifying incoming fire would be nice. I have experience in BRs but when squad members call where enemies are I swear they’re listening to the bullet crack n it messes me up
36:52, are you also telling me the driver/gunner got out of the BTR which if he was killed, would have left the btr without a driver for a short bit, and in that time the enemy team could have coordinated their AT stuff or other vehicles to come and kill the BTR without any hassle?
Hello BHM Captain. I have a request to you: Youre big Squadlead-Guides is belonging to the best Squadleaders guides i've seen till yet. Specially are those the biggest and most complex ones. You really picked up and talk about various and essential topics about squadleading in Squad. So... my question is, if i am allowed, to take youre video, exactly how it is, just translate it on the German language. My idea is, to simply overlay the speech. The size of the German Squad community is also quite big. So, can we go into a pn about it? (excuse for my grammatic failours, like you sure guessed, im Swiss, so english is not my main language) but i understand more then enough, to be able to translate it.
Feel free to reupload it with your voiceover. There's also an option to add subtitles in your language on this video, I believe. I don't know if UA-cam will automatically attempt to copyright strike you if you repost it, but if it prompts me to take action somehow, I'll ignore it.
Very situational. I normally avoid rush tactics in public games simply because I always assume that I'll be the only competent infantry squad on the team. That's not always true, but it's the bet I try to stick with, hence why I prioritize midpoint rushes and/or backcapping. If you're certain somebody has that covered, you have a decent heli pilot, and you trust yourself and your squad to hold the rushed objective long enough to make a difference on the midpoint (by holding it long enough to allow your team an easy stealth cap), then go for it. If any of those variables feel iffy to you, play it safe. Also, I'm not certain which video it's in, but one of the intermediate guides has an entire section on the dangers of overextending. That's extremely relevant here. It's incredibly important that you know how and when to give up the fight and quickly relocate when you're no longer doing the most you possibly can be for your team by being there.
@@BHMCaptain I thought I could hear something. I've got 44 hours in Squad, I have to SL on occasion due to squads locking or insta-filling. Do you have a resource on the FOB meta you mention, maps and the such? These guides help, Cheers.
BHM Captain I don't know what to do in my situation because I'm not sure if people will respect me because I'm 13 and I sound young but tbh I just want to know if it will affect the game.
It definitely could. It will largely depend on the types of people you run into. The Squad community is usually fairly mature, so I don't think you'll take way too much shit for your voice, but it'll definitely be something working against you when it comes to having the trust/respect of the people you're leading. I wouldn't let it prevent you from trying. If you become an experienced SL, it doesn't matter how young you sound, people will enjoy playing in your Squad and will want to do it again and again.
@@Doellemix123 If you understand the game, it's just about learning how to get people to do something fun AND relevant to the objective of the game. It's important you show your squad you know what's up - people will always respect that. Also, Squad is best with friends, which you can make online.
