Thank you so much for this video Dustin! I need to do this for my door and I was thinking it was super difficult, but you broke it down so well it feels achievable
I have a rot video but yours is much more righteous 🤟 Dude This is an excellent practical repair. never dawned on me that they sell door jamb material 🙄 on top of that you get vinyl brick mold that's cheaper than wood plus never rots OMG this is invaluable info 👍 I'm going to go redo my video 😋
Awesome comment my friend thank you so much. And I can’t wait to see the new video. Appreciating you. Righteous? Comments don’t get much better than this one.. Don’t forget to check out the e course! I hear amazing things. Thank you sir
A critter chewed through the rotting section of my trim. Once I get rid of him a neighbor will help me replace mine. I'm too short..Lol Your timing for this video was perfect!!
Unfortunately, that’s the thing that stood out for me, distracting me from watching the end of another quality repair. I’ve relocated so many bugs while working in THEIR habitat that it seems pointless to kill them, but if I believe them to be dangerous, I’ll never torture them with a slow death like that. Just stomp ‘em, man. That’s more humane. Great repair vids, nonetheless.
Very good video before I was going to replace everything. What do you think of this tho. Instead of a butt joint on the patch pieces, what about 45 over laps to hide seam better?
Hey Marty. Great question when I first started out I used to 45s but found the customers really could care less because you could still see the same. If you’re going with seamless I find Bondo to be most amazing. I hope this helps thanks for commenting
Hey Abbie. Definitely not. When it gets bad you may need to but this guy had small rot at the bottom of one side. We saved it! And saved him a few hundred bucks.
Man glad you posted this. I have to do this same repair on a couple of my friends houses and I don't even know what I'm doing 🤣. But if you can do guess I can do it 😜. What about a lose threshold on the bottom??
hey nestor! of course you can do it!...once you get the new jamb in there, you can seal it with adhesive caulk to the jamb and the ground..you got this!
This is wonderful news, and such an awesome tutorial. If I wanted to avoid the repair seam, is there a downside to replacing the whole length? Thanks, Dustin.
I need to remove + reinstall a french door to repair the subfloor. Jabs are also soft. Should I replace jambs while frame is out, or wait until door+frame reinstalled?
Hi slip on. When there gets to be excessive amount of damage to the jams it may be best to replace them. I would remove the whole unit repair the floor and then install a new prehung door
This is a very good video/tutorial. You did an excellent job. Quick, precise, concise, accurate and professional. I just subscribed to your channel and I look forward to learning more. I'm just getting into Home Improvements in Maryland and I think I can learn a lot from you! Keep up the WONDERFUL videos!
The jamb material Dustin won't rot now, or in time it will? The before material was all wood right? Looks great and as always you make it look so easy 🤗ty. Poor pincher bug! 🤣🤣🤣😉😉
Good video. The question is ... how much would you charge for doing that job? .... There are people who think that you are going to charge $ 50 dlls .. and it is not like that for that job I would charge a minimum of $ 180 dlls. or what do you think
Hi Miranda yes. You need to weigh the cost of what the alternative is. We could change the entire door at $600 plus or we could do this repair job. I believe I charged this guy 225+ material
Hey brother. You may try a mobile home building supply store and replace the prehung door. Otherwise you would need to build a new jam out of lumber. I hope this helps
Exterior jambs should be made of aluminum, pressure-treated, or PVC. Why do we accept anything less? Anyway, very helpful video and techniques. Thank you
Hey nannette. They sell complete jambs in the trim aisle at the home depot. Probably Lowe’s too. They sell individual legs or the complete jamb. They also have them with pvc bottoms. I hope this helps! .
I showed them the piece I cut out ( which is just like this video has), and Home Depot clerks looked at me like I was crazy. In Ludington MI. Not at Lowe’s or Menards either.
Question, how do you get that sill plate up? Everytime it rains I get water running under the my plate. Don't see any screws holding it down. Can't get caulk under there, tried.
hey doug...if youre just trying to stop the water, i would seal the bottom with quad..( hardcore exterior sealant)...otherwise someone may have put it down with liquid nails..or a like adhesive. There should be NO screws in a threshold so it should pop up..
Hey Sandy they usually sell an exterior jam kit in the trim Aisle At the Home Depot. Exterior jam kit, sometimes they sell them in single pieces. You got this good luck!
Great video. You are an expert. Be careful though bro with the saw! Use it safely! Never hold board with one hand while cutting with other, also hearing protection! It's not worth it, you get a big hand injury you'll never make another video again.
Waiting for the fire ants to start chewing on you? Good example of instruction, I’ll look to see if you have a video of replacing the whole door and frame. Looking at this as an option. I think the door is beat and rusted beyond repairing, 20 + years old. We’ll see.
You could consider the comments here saying you don't need to be cruel to a bug, but you keep saying "it had pinchers man." It's really not the argument you think it is. Think about what people are saying to you! Unnecessary cruelty is a bad look.
Hey Rei! Interesting point. Maybe I should’ve poisoned him? Have you ever been poisoned? I’m guessing it’s not very pleasant and it’s probably not quick either but I appreciate you wanting to stand up for the little guy. Thanks for commenting
You got that right X. A good rule of thumb is charge them twice. The material cost. So much more money you can save with my new home repair e-book. Complete fix ability! thehomemenders.com/e-course/
Good video until the bug thing. 🤦♂️ Ruined it for me. Just smash it and move on didn’t have to do all that. All life is sacred man. It all has its place in nature.
Thanks for commenting Q! all life is sacred and then just smash it? and he didn’t die, he just struggled a little bit another bug came by and helped him :-)
Hey Tinker. Thanks for commenting but just as you swat a mosquito that lands on you I shall go after any pincher bug that I see thanks for watching. It videos aren’t your thing check out the new e-book! Complete fixability thehomemenders.com/e-course/
YOU ARE DOING IT SIMPLE AND AWESOME, THANK YOU SO MUCH
Let’s not complicate things David . Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for this video Dustin! I need to do this for my door and I was thinking it was super difficult, but you broke it down so well it feels achievable
you got this jessie.. thanks for sharing!
Dustin you always make these repairs look easy. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you dive!!
I liked that little pry bar trick to tighten up the seam of that jam! Nice, clean repair, as always, Dustin!
love it..thanks lori!
Nice, thanks. Always good to see an expert at work.
Thank you Wahlberg. You are awesome!
Perfect video for my fix. Granted it will be the top corner but i imagine the same process.
Glad it helped

Outstanding video. I really like the way you use the circular saw to cut the jam and I also like the way you use the miter saw.
Thank you Jim I appreciate you sharing this my friend. Thanks for commenting

Absolutely my friend. Thank you.

Thank you, Dennis! You rock!
Great video- thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching!
I would have primed the bottom of that wood b4 installing it to prevent future rot. Keep up the great videos.
hey lou!..keeping it painted and sealed will typically do the job..thanks so much for commenting!
Didn't know PVC rots
great video except when you intentionally cover that insect. That made me sad:(
Thanks for watching.
Great video, very helpful and hard to find. Thanks.
Thank you gamer. You’ll know where I am next time! Thanks for commenting
Very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you Rose!
Would it be a good idea to add some caulk under or behind the new wood at the bottom, as well as where it touches the sill plate?
hey doug..! great suggestion..yes sir a new install typically gets a bead under the threshold..
Good job Dustin!! Keep the videos coming brother
thank you steve!
Dude!! What bug do to you????
Lol 🤣great video
he had pinchers man!...lol
Home Mender Inc 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you Steve, doing the whole jamb leg Would definitely produce better results. Thanks for commenting!
another good video, great breakdown during
thank you JO!
What is that inside piece called, where the weather strip goes in. What do I buy to replace it, it looks like the two boards came together like that
Hey Nicolette. That’s called JAMB, pick you up an exterior jamb from Home Depot. You got this
I need to remove + reinstall a french door to repair the subfloor. Jabs are also soft. Should I replace jambs while frame is out, or wait until door+frame reinstalled?
Hi slip on. When there gets to be excessive amount of damage to the jams it may be best to replace them. I would remove the whole unit repair the floor and then install a new prehung door
@@homemend that would be my preference also, but with door availability/prices as they are lately ... Appreciate the response!

thanks BF!..evergreen my friend. thanks for commenting!
They're x 2
Having trouble locating the "door jam material" online. Can you link or describe exactly what to ask for at Lowes or HD? Great video!
Hey jason “exterior door jamb kit” comes in threes pieces with the weather stripping. You got this. Should be about $35?
like around how much it cost to get a repair like that?
Repaired and painted you could probably get 200
What are you using to measure and cut the piece on @ 4:38 mark.
Hey Rocky that is a compound miter saw. This one was a ryobi around 125 bucks
Good video. The question is ... how much would you charge for doing that job? .... There are people who think that you are going to charge $ 50 dlls .. and it is not like that for that job I would charge a minimum of $ 180 dlls. or what do you think

Hi Dustin! What do I do if it’s a Mobile home front door, and the ENTIRE frame has fallen out when you try to close the door. It’s all rotted
Hey brother. You may try a mobile home building supply store and replace the prehung door. Otherwise you would need to build a new jam out of lumber. I hope this helps
5:40 🤣🤣
Thank you! Lol
Exterior jambs should be made of aluminum, pressure-treated, or PVC. Why do we accept anything less? Anyway, very helpful video and techniques. Thank you
hey bill! america has alot of trees! thank you sir!
How do you add a Z-bar above the existing top brick mould if there is no z-bar?
Hey Jesse. You can squeeze it In behind the siding or you may have to pull the top trim off. You got this
Where do u get the jamb replacement???? Can’t fine it anywhere. Might as well just buy a new door with all the hassle to find this piece.
Cause you have to buy a “kit” at $100. Add another $150 and I can have a whole new door with jamb. Doesn’t make sense.
Hey nannette. They sell complete jambs in the trim aisle at the home depot. Probably Lowe’s too. They sell individual legs or the complete jamb. They also have them with pvc bottoms. I hope this helps! .
They sell the one leg for 2o bucks in va beach. 😧
I showed them the piece I cut out ( which is just like this video has), and Home Depot clerks looked at me like I was crazy. In Ludington MI. Not at Lowe’s or Menards either.

man..kenny he had pinchers!
Could not find this board anywhere!
Home Depot in the trim aisle
Dumb question... what size/type nails?
Hi. These are 2” galvanized
Lol the bug is going to sue
They are called bugs. 😑Thanks for commenting James!
Please, please help me find this "jamb material" as he calls it online or anywhere?!!!!
Hey Sandy they usually sell an exterior jam kit in the trim Aisle At the Home Depot. Exterior jam kit, sometimes they sell them in single pieces. You got this good luck!
Why do that to the bug? Why??
It had pinchers

Did you have to put silicon on the bug? You could have just moved him out of your area. Karma!
hey catherine! he was a pincher bug!...and jesus says karma isnt real :)
Hiw would you do it if behind the jam isn't solid and is just shims and insulation
killing the bug seemed unnecessary.
Thanks for watching
insect cruelty 101
Hey jab. He had Pinchers man. ! I hope the video helped
He couldn’t sell his house because of a weathered door jamb? That’s crazy
hey Bridget...its usually the appraisal..banks don't want to lend money for a rotted house. :)
Most home sales require a clear WDO (wood destroying organism) report before a loan can be issued.
Duuude, needless cruelty is so not cool.
