Grim Dawn is extremely underrated I think its the best arpg on the market right now. It feels like the perfect balance between an older game like Diablo 2 and a more modern style game. Really surprised it doesn't have a much larger playerbase
As someone who has spent years trying to find the perfect balance of nostalgic Diablo-like and modern gameplay, lemme just say that Grim Dawn is simply perfect.
I personnaly had a hard time finding a challenge in grim dawn. I played the two first difficulties (veteran and expert if I recall correctly) , and I was bored to death. The ennemies were too easy to kill, I did not find the patience to continue to unlock the harder difficulties. It is a shame, because the mechanics good, but you don't need to think about it too much because you kill everything...
I can't tell you how many times I'd start a game after dinner and the next thing I know it's 3:00 in the morning. I'd say "Just one more quest, how long could it take?" Twice I called in to work after pulling an all nighter playing that game. It's gritty and dark and addictive af.
Sacred 2 will always be my favorit ARPG. It's open World invites to Explorer and the slower paced combat adds to the atmosphere. Just good times that lead to stay in.
@@Sizzer1337 I hate it because everything feels the same. There are no real difficulty spikes with vastly more dangerous (and rewarding) enemies and there are no total pushovers that were dangerous some levels ago and now show you how far your character has come.
So much this. I love the variety of items and play styles. Having mounts is nice, and I like the cheeky humor. There was on mission where I helped a band find their instruments. When you complete the mission, you got to watch a concert with all ton of demonic monsters in the audience cheering the band on. The music was dope. I was humming it as I played the game after the scene was over.
Dungeon sieg 2 is one underrated game and a really well made Game! I played literally for years this game back in 2006,would still consider playing it today. Definitely people should give it a try u won't regret it!
My played games from this list. - Torchlight 1-2 - Sacred 1-3 - Van Helsing 1-3 - Titan Quest - Dungeon Siege (all of it) - Grim Dawn - Path Of Exile These are the games on the list I plays or played and the rest is what still awaits for purchase and play it. Maybe someday I will grab it. My mentions which was not put in the list are probably not the best ones but at least these were enjoyable. - Darkstone - Revenant - Champions of Norrath - Zax: Alien Hunter - Nox
@@majorgear1021 Sadly happend. Otherwise I can see the reasoning behind why the game went wrong. I have same feelings for Dungeon Keeper. I waited for the third game and never happend many years later the EA released a mobile cashgrab game with the name. That is another reason why I hate them so much, ruined my childhood franchises.
I have a love-hate relationship with ARPGs, on one hand they're one of my favourite genres, on the other so few of them really click hardcore with me. So few of them have a mix of skillful gameplay and in-depth rpg mechanics. Usually it's either steamroll it with an optimized build but all you end up doing is popping buffs and holding down a skill, or actively dodge, manage your cooldowns etc but you get a choice of three builds and no stat choices.
Diablo 2 Resurrected and Path of Exile have the most depth out of the ones I've played, and Diablo 2 especially feels very hardcore with losing items on death (can pick them up), elemental immunities, heavy resistances reliance from pots/items, etc. PoE is directly inspired. Both have hardcore modes as well, but it would be insanely easy to lose a character in either game. Path of Exile is famous for having the most stat choices, and the biggest stat tree, and with the skill gem and support gem system, as well as depth to items, the 3 pillars constantly interact in a way that makes character building so much more meaningful, impactful, thought-provoking, etc. There are safety nets with currencies and crafting to make sure you don't completely fuck up, but even these have restrictions and huge spending cost. PoE is by far the most in-depth ARPG, and might even be the deepest RPG in general.
@@readifdumb It might have just been my build, but Diablo 2 was pretty boring to me. Path of Exile is also a little dull, it's definitely got the depth I want in the RPG side, but at end game it does go into the category of "run around until elite, use all skills and watch health for when to pop a potion" I never really felt pressured to play well, only to prepare well.
From all these only Baldurs gate, Sacred gold, torchlight, warhammer, wolcen, titan quest and ofc Grim Dawn are games i would say people really should play, all other ones you can skip with absolutely zero worries. Eclipse may be very good in the future, for now we can only hope that it will be.
My top three is path of exile, grim dawn and torchlight 2. Those all the games i never uninstalled. PoE and grim dawn have a deep and fun customization while torchlight 2 is simpler but still fun to play.
I've been playing Grim Dawn since Ashes of Malmouth and it's been a blast. The amount of builds available is unrealistic but I still love my Shotgun Firestrike Purifier above all. 🔥FAIA!!🔥
I need to try that some time. xD I've been playing since Early Access and only Act 1 and 2 were available. The amount of content in the game now is crazy, and the amount of customization offered with the Devotion system on top of the regular skill trees is crazy.
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was the very first RPG I ever played. That game alone made me an RPG player/fan. That was over 20 years ago. Up until that point, I thought RPGs were just for nerds. Now, that’s pretty much the only type of (video) games I have any interest, whatsoever, in playing. I still like Minesweeper and Jezzball, but as for video games, I lost interest in the other types of games I used to like. Anyway, I picked the Elven Sorceress girl. I used the others some, but she was unquestionably my favorite character. To this day, that’s still one of my all time favorite games. If only Snowblind Studios was still around and updated it to current gen consoles…
I forgot to mention the fact he left Champions of Norrath off the list. Well, I mean it doesn’t really play like Diablo. The game mechanics are nothing like those of Diablo, but then, neither were Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. In fact, I might have liked Champions of Norrath a little more than Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance due to the character creation freedom and randomized dungeons, more importantly, the inventory of the merchants, unlike Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. How do you put one on this list, though, and not the other? Also, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard looks incredible. I can’t believe the developers just abandoned it entirely. The cover had a quote saying “a true competitor to Diablo” or something like that, and from looking at videos on it, it could have been. I think it had real potential. I wish they’d kept working on it. Some of these game developers are just like tv network executives. They just don’t know how to tell when they have something great.
Yeah, PoE has a lot of different content and mechanics. It can feel a bit overwhelming when you open skill tree the first time, but the diversity it gives you is amazing!
You really do need to try PoE. GD was my go-to to scratch the Diablo itch for a while, then I tried PoE. They're both great games, but (in my opinion, at least) PoE is superior in every conceivable way.
Torchlight 2 is still one of my favorite arpgs. And let's not forget all the mods you can add to the game to create a whole new game. With some mods adding more levels, bosses, loot, bag space, pets. Because of the mods it has so much replayability.
Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance was my fave game ever in the genre before I started playing Diable ( more specifically before my disk got scratched to bits by my son and I was forced to get a new game). Another very similar one, and one I think should definitely be on the list, is Champions of Norrath. I am unsure if its available on current platforms but I still break out my Ps2 and play it at least once or twice a year :)
@@sziklamester1244 Another couple of exclamation marks would not be too much there :) Champions of Norrath is still a top notch game to be sure. The sequel Champions Return to Arms was also very good but I still prefer the first one for its better story. It was the first game where I think they really went all out on items, making every piece look different depending on which character you play and even having tons of unique items that can only be worn/used by a specific race. So much choice!
Champs of Norrath and Spider-man 2 are why I got a ps2 and modded it to run OPL and load games from a sata hard drive. It looks pretty good with a component to hdmi converter. I only played a little of it last year, but it’s high up on my gaming backlog.
I love Champions. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure we'll never see a modern remaster. The rights would probably be a nightmare. All of the companies involved, in particular Snowblind and Black Isle, are either dead or absorbed into WB games. Everquest is basically a dead franchise. It was a Sony exclusive as well. Who owns the Snowblind engine now? Who owns the Everquest license? It seems like it might be a big hurdle to bring that back, but I hope it happens. Those games are magical
YES! The PS2 Baldur's Gate and Norrath games are awesome. As my son got older and we moved away from games specifically made for kids, we played through all of these together multiple times. These are perfect couch co-op games. And I'm trying to remember, I think it's the Norrath games, but the feature that allows both players to be in their inventory or interacting with vendors at the same time is such a HUGE quality of life feature, it's a shame that devs haven't caught on to how great that is. Playing Diablo III with my son was also great, but you end up twiddling your thumbs for so much time as you wait for your turn to look at your pickups or manage inventory, etc.
Of the list, I've played Van Helsing and just completed Grim Dawn. Both are awesome with some steampunk/Victorian influence, which I like. I do have Torchlight 2 and Victor Vran, but those haven't "clicked" on me yet, sadly.
Grim Dawn is one I still play, years later. It's a great game. Torchlight 2 is a ton of fun, maybe give it another chance. It's a bit different graphically and story wise, but it's a really fun game in its own right. If you like Grim Dawn check out Titan Quest. Grim Dawn is made from some of the devs who made Titan Quest. If you aren't into Greek mythology it may not be something you like, though.
Of the games included on the LIST, I must say that Titan Quest Anniversary Edition and expansions were one of my favorites. I loved the graphics, the attention to detail to some acts and some of the historical visual like those from Egypt, China, Greece etc. Also, the ability to create Hybrid Classes... BattleMage etc gave it a flexibilty and replayability to the game. In your video of TQ you should have added better scenes that represent the game better to peak the curiosity and interest for those that have never played it. The Greek Streamer Master for TQ on youtube is the best resource for creating Builds on TQ IMO.
"should have added better scenes that represent the game" I feel this was true of SEVERAL games presented here. So many clips of him trying to attack walls or wandering around aimlessly.
Grim Dawn and Titan Quest are real ARPG games. Path of Exile is like a book for study before you can start real end-game. And there ..there it comes - the perfect hybryd of all those icones of ARPG games - The Last Epoch. This game is everything I always wanted to see in such a melancholic and nostalgic world like a Diablo had. This is what Diablo4 fans should get. And LE is what PoE 2.0 fans will be missing.
I played them all, Grim Dawn, LE, POE. But I rate POE the highest since I am already a veteran of it, and it has by far the most content. Also only POE has trade, albeit cumbersome, so that progression of builds is much faster. LE is much more user-friendly and has fantastic item filter system, but it's just too new to have lavish, unending content.
@@aryabloodborn8160 I've played PoE with all leagues except two. When you realize that trade system provides you an access to unique items that you can get for a few chaos and then you clear almost every piece of end-game with most non-meta builds...Then the whole crafting system doesnt really matter. Then the droping items doesnt matter. Then you just run forward 1-85 lvl in two days and see if you play one of the top 5 meta builds that CAN do a WHOLE end-game or you just can't do anything and die / lose more exp then you get. PoE was a great game at the first leagues. And to be honest I've spent 10 x more money in PoE then once in LE. Now I've played LE since few weeks and the progression is really slow like in Diablo 2. Even without the trade system I like this game more. The mechanics are not so complicated like in POE but provides me MORE possibilities of building a character. Every class has 3 spec passives and skill system provides you combination of 5 talent trees. You need to learn how to use the skills to proc some buffs. You can believe me or not but LE is everything that PoE should have ages ago. GGG didn't learned how to make an old thing better. They just add a new stuff and more new stuff but... in the end everything is the same like in the first league. And I don't want to talk about graphics or animations. I hope that PoE 2.0 will show something really new in mechanics or build progression.
@@lorien6678 I agree with you. Nowadays, you have to study POE meta even if you play the game for several years. Imagine the new players, they need to copy a build first to understand the game later.. I feel I can't recommend this game to someone entering this genre.
dungeon siege was my childhood favorite...coming back home from school and poppin some monsters ... oh man....this game literally led me to enjoy diablo even more when they came out with Diablo III
Awesome review, thanks for summary on diablo-like games. You might try to have a look on Blade and Sword 1 (2002) and 2 (2003), Throne of Darkness (2001) and Hellgate: London (2007). They are kinda old but they're still fun.
Throne of Darkness was amazing I remember how much time I sank into that game. The dark japanese mythology was perfect. I also suggest checking LOKI it was an amazing game. Dark nordic mythology.
Playing Grim Dawn for the first time. Really love the look and feel of it so far. Character not the best but it's my first attempt. Thanks for the great video.
I've had the urge of coming back hard into this genre since the Immortal fiasco and ended up stumbling on V Rising which feels delicious. So yes, there is a big need for this kind of games to implement the ability to rotate the camera. Cannot go back once you feel it's potential.
@@weskerhood9884 I have titan quest it's not a bad game, but I notice the problem is the fight animation, it's not about the grind, it's about the speed of killing I think, I play Diablo and Path of Exile, these 2 games, gives me the adrenaline of massive fast pace killing. :)
@@weskerhood9884 the only downside of diablo 3 and path of exile, is that it requires you to log in online all the time while playing, the upside is, they keep on adding new stuff to the game. Buy once and update forever
I had been sitting on Sacred 2 Gold for a long time! If anyone is wanting to play it on Windows 10, I recommend running in Compatibility Mode with Windows XP (Update 2 I think). This fixed my crash issues.
The developers, Studio II, never finished the game, it's pretty buggy. You can lose hours of progress due to a random crash or black screen issues. Let me know please if you had trouble playing. I'd like to try it but not if it's broken.
@@simontmn I'll definitely check it out. It'll give me a chance to window shop too, the last game I bought on Steam was Valheim so it's been awhile. Thank you!
Divine Divinity, Divinity Ergo Draconis (though 3rd person and not isometric), Deathspank, Throne of Darkness, Darkstone, Soulbringer (back in the day top notch voice acting), Summoner (camera work is a bit bad), Nox, Rage of Mages, Konung and many more :)
You have a good taste Dude I love this type of isometric ARPG Games I played ---------------- Diablo 2 (not beat it yet) Diablo 3 Torchlight 1/2 Victor vran (not beat it yet) Viking ..... Children of Morta Titan quest Wolcen .......... The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing f.c Anima pc version Warhammer chaosbane (almost beat it) And saving the best for last The awesome Grim Dawn _________ Upcoming games i really want to play Lost Ark Ascent PoE Last Epoch W.H 40.000...... ..
A game to become successful doesn't need only great graphics and mechanics. To succeed it needs a catchy name and a memorable storyline! Most of the games shown here have really bad and difficult to remember names! Diablo Just think of the storyline and the name itself. 50% of the players if not 80% attracted to it initially was because they could remember that name and the storyline was amazing.
I loved this list, thank you for including commentary since I’m almost always on the move and listen to videos while doing other tasks. I’ll try to watch it later when I have more time. What would be your choices for ease of getting into and online match-making? I’d love to crawl dungeons with other people but no one I know plays rpgs. So match-making is a big plus.
Darn. ok. I used to play Dungeon Siege 1 a lot. It was easy to join a co-op game and wreck tons of mobs while picking up gold and powerful gear. I really miss that experience!
POE, LEPOC,Warhammer. Pieces of art. I dont play POE but thats my internet to blame. The game is soo good, that it comes with a 3month "league" that is renewed so that you have 4 leagues per year and thats perfect for new and veteran players to "hop up" into new content. This instances (league) are a total new starter for everyone so nobody will be overpower since the start and you will be able to compete with hundreds of players.
Great list, added a few to my wishlist. Of the few I've tried(can't speak for the other ones obviously), i would have wished you showed some better footage so new players might try it out :) Minecraft dungeons for example is an amazing game but from what is shown in this video i would never try it. The game can amazing visuals, very cool enchantment on items and be fast paced if you want to. If anyone is 50/50 on trying it out i would say do it, the game is awesome even for solo play. I'm gonna watch more gameplay of every game on the list to make my mind up a bit more. Again, seems like a great list, cheers :) I'm playing last epoch atm and it's amazing, best beta I've played ever i think, next to valheim. Feels like a 99% complete game.
Path of Exile never came out as a competitor to Diablo 3. Stop saying bullshit. It was a fan work, a homage, a game done in acknowledgment and respect of Diablo.
I've played a lot of these games and find grim dawn to be my favorite and in my opinion the best. I picked up the entire game plus new expansions for $28 on steam 2 months ago.
I love ARPGs I think this is the definitive true list. I know I'm right on this, I have good taste :) (1). Diablo II (Plugy version) -gives you unlimited stash tabs. (2). Grim Dawn (3). PoE Path of Exile (not to be confused with PoE Pillars of Eternity) (4). Titan Quest anniversary. (5). Borderlands 2 (6). X-Men Legends II (PS2 game) (7). Divinity Original Sin ............................................... Victor Vran .................... ......................... ............. Torchlight 2 Victor Vran and Torchlight 2 are probably 8th and 9th respectively but there's a big gap after 7th spot. Sorry but I played Diablo 3 for a few seasons when it came out and found it to be crap as all the end game loot were the same old sets.. note: PoE would be number 1 except it's just too bloody complicated. My PoE experience: First waste time on at least four characters and 1000 hours learning everything about the game, crafting etc. Next, copy a serious build, get to a high level and wonder why you struggle.... then you realise why as you find out too late that a much better build guide exists for the same character, feel like an idiot for wasting a month of your time and QUIT playing for awhile. Return to the game a few years later and have the exact same experience happen all over again. .2000 hours later you still know nothing about the game.
It's not required to know everything about game in PoE to kill all the endgame bosses or max out your character's potential. Even the developers cannot put all contents in every league nowaday, it's simply way too much content. I would also recommend to have a break between leagues, maybe a month or so, I sometimes skip a whole league, gotta stay sane, Exile.
Nice list and i played all the games but PoE is far superior in every aspect to D2/GD. The only reason to like D2 more that PoE/GD is nostalgy. I dont see a reason why anyone could consider GD a better game than PoE...Maybe simplicity but arpg fans love complexity so... If after 2k hours on PoE you cant make decent builds, the problem is not with PoE man...You dont need meta or min-maxed builds to destroy the endgame. In fact, the meta/min maxed builds are pretty boring because you dont even get to play the bosses.
Great video! Because of it I bought Warhammer Chaosbane (funny thing is, I have never heard of it and I am huge fan of ARPG games) and I am having a BLAST with this game! Can't thank you enough! Keep up the good work!
Having played Diablo from its first demo days ... I'm a loyal PoE player :D the level of customization, the dizzying variety of builds you can do, especially with the Scion prestige class and the Ascendant class upgrades ... it has awesome replayability and still looks good today.
@@majorgear1021 It's quite hard to get started with. I advice to watch some starting guides, like campaign gearing guides and choose a simple build guide. It could also be quite overwhelming when you enter maps (The game's end-game content), since there's lots of different game mechanics to learn and each of them having unique item drops. You also need to use external sources to play it efficiently, like the game's official trade site (An external auction house), data sites like poe.ninja, crafting simulators (more of an end-game thing) etc. But overall I feel like once you get into it at the most basic level, it gets really exciting and interesting.
I also have been a doe hard POE fan, and I enjoy most of the challenge leagues. My main issue with POE is the repetitive grind from Act 1-10 every league, I feel bored with it now and am probably going to be waiting for POE 2.
@@VtecTurboPanda yeah me too, if only you could retain everything, i hate seasons where you need to start from scratch, makes everything you've worked for down to trash.
I tried to get into Path of Exile a few times, and it just wasn't working for me. The characters move too slowly, and something about the camera angle makes them look like marionets. I couldn't stand it. Grim Dawn is a great game. My only major complaint is the maps are a bit unnecessarily large. Finding quest objectives can become kinda tedious, especially if you happen to miss it and are left wandering a gigantic, already cleared map.
Warhammer Inquisitor and The ascent look great. I wanted to have a game just like diablo 2, but with guns. I wish there was a fallout game just like that. Having a shooter version seems like the perfect compliment. Spend all day using a sword, and then when you're bored you just switch to the shooter.
Inquisitor is a game I keep coming back to since its beta stage. It has matured into a very solid ARPG. And bringing the Emperors Justice to the enemies of mankind with a blessed heavy Bolter is a very special feeling, no other ARPG can deliver :) The Ascent is great - both visiually and gameplay-wise - but it is more of a Twin-Stick Shooter than an ARPG. The replayability is much lower, because it lacks variety and loot-hunt.
@@Nachtmahr79 well, there is an old 2d-and-a-half ARPG with a really crude resolution, Sacred Gold (that is the original Sacred with an expansion). This one sports a totally anachronistic dwarf that can use pistols or uses a cannon mounted on his back. Absolutely hilarious.
PoE is fun until it gets to the point where you're keeping spread-sheets and taxing your GPU like you're mining crypto. From hitting a scary dude on the beach with a stick to becoming a natural disaster with legs, it's a fun journey. Only downside is that you really do need to hit the "books" and research what items can / can't be made, the probabilities of being able to farm them / craft them, and how the various mechanics work or don't work well together.
I'm 300+ hours into Grim Dawn and its content and replayability is much better balanced and enjoyable than Path of Exile, IMO. Closer to Diablo than anything else.
Im 6000 hours into PoE and 1000 into Grim Dawn and you are very very wrong. IMO of course...And btw, is far superior to D2 too. Is the GOAT and almost all arpg fans outhere have the same opinion...
@@s4mm4el I could never get to endgame in PoE. I started the game many times and just got plain bored. The money/barter system throws new players off. I wouldnt recomend it to anyone.

@@s4mm4el yeah and I bet you have spent more money in poe then you could even possibly think of spending grim dawn because you only have to purchase grim dawn once. Where as poe is the most disgustingly priced cosmetics I've ever seen....and paid stash tabs? I have so many of these already. But I will say this: Torchlight made a mistake by giving the Alchemist that laser beam spell. Put all your stuff into pumping that up, and you can sweep the screen clear of anything.

Titan Quest and Grim Dawn ar the best Diablo like games! Ragdoll physics since 2006(!!!), very interesting and cool character skilling, and the drop system is just a miracle! Enemies drops ONLY what they are using, so if a random zombie is incredibly strong, it must have something cool item on it. Except from prime bosses, which are dropping an orb, which contain random loot. Diablo 3 couldnt invent any of these, nor any of the games in the list. (maybe the newer ones did the ragdoll but not the loot) and i would take a big bet, Diablo 4 will also missing on these very important stuffs.

thank you lol. I was gonna comment something similar to this. I hate seeing people say "Lost Ark is like Diablo" LITERALLY the only thing they have in common, is the ARPG style combat. And even then, Diablo pales in comparison since Lost Ark is way more deep with it's combat.

In Titan Quest and Grim dawn when you start new game you can be any class you want to be!!! In !!In Titan Quest you can add into any of 10 class skill tree with latest update! And in Grim dawn from 9 class skill tree with the latest update! And you can also mix your classes also! in every game you can add your skill points into two diffirent classes skill points at most! In Titan quest the second act was also located in desert same as in Diablo 2 and third act was located somewhere in china near great wall of china!!Also world map is far larger than all of the Diablo games in Titan Quest and Grim dawn! And in Sacred 2 there are also a class called! Dragon M Age Inqisitor!!Who can transform into a real dragon and atack everyone from with firebreath speel wich was way to op against all your openents i was literaly speedrushing throught the enntire game while i played as Dragon m Age Inqisitor! They should really nerf that Dragon m Age Inqisitor!! Because when you always play as him you can complete entire game in only 12 hours! And the World map in Titan Quet was so increadibly huge that you needed to get from desert town in act 2 all the way to china great wall in Act 3!!! It took me exactly one week in this game only because i got lost on the way to china becuse the map was realy large to walk in unknown direction also!! And as soon as i reach the the great wall of china a a 10 tigers start to atack me with 2 katanas in each hand !I barely got away !And then 5 kangaroos from Australia they kicked me back to Act 2 !And then i literaly had to walk all te way to Act where i was before! And then it took me exactly exactly two weeks at least because i got lost in large India!Thats how realy large this world map really is thats why need to buy Titan Quest with the most largest google map from all the google games maps! Also in Grim Dawn there are the most closest classes with all of the Diablo games classes! In Grim Dawn There is a Barbarian Class who can wear two weapons at same time! ,Barbarian - Nightblade,Paladin - Oathkeeper!,Druid- Shaman who can summon beasts,Sorceress - Arcanist!, master of elemental masgic,Witch Doctor - Occulist! and Also Necromancer! same as Necromancer from Diablo! games who can rase sketon army also!! And as ranged they got two classes Inquisitor who uses a pistol same as outlaw from torchlight 2 and Demolitionist who uses two handeed ranged weapon !So you should also get Grim Dawn also! if you got boored from playing Diablo games only, or want to try something new!!Or you can buy the Titan Qjest with the most largest google map from all of the google maps!!Thats whyexactly you must get it!
Would have liked to see and hear a little more detail about why these games made the list. In addition, I'd have added Diablo 1 and 2 to see where they land in your opinion. Personally for example, Grim Dawn is too low at 4, if these are indeed in order. Appreciate your video!
Me too. After Diablo1-2 these games was my go to go along with Van Helsing series not only because hungarian game (I am hungarian) but the story and the touch.
You got most of the best games for sure, and a few of the rest are in the comments. Love videos like this and the genre finally getting a little less niche.
I've played 12 of these. I can recommend most of 'em with 3 exceptions. A) Dungeon Siege: Is more of a RTS like RPG and not ARPG. You have to manage your party members and you need to micro manage them, which is the opposite of arpgs. It's relic in it's own category, but personally i didn't enjoy that franchise. The closest mention would be KOTOR or Dragon Age or Baldur's Gate. B) Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance: It made for ps2 and you can only play it by an emulator. These emulators requires a lot of system requirement. Only high end PCs could run it. I wanna mention Champions of Norrath and Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms. These two are made for ps2 as well. These were part of my childhood! Great games! C) Lost Ark: It's a realitvely new game in the market. It's "free to play (F2P)" in the title, but in reallity it's pay to win (P2W). You can litearlly buy VIP currency in the shop, which you can sell in the game for gold and with it you can buy matterials, which will used to upgrade your gear. Oh i didn't mention? The gear system isn't loot drop based. It's requires you to get a certain item what a boss drops and that you can turn in for the piece of equipment. You can only upgrade your gear with materials. Early on it's gonna be insanely easy, but when you reach 1355 ilvl or 1390 ilvl you'll have a brain melt down. The whole system revolves around percentages. At that point you need to fail 15-20 times to upgrade one piece of gear. These tries gonna take 200-300+ material with 100-200+ gold from you, which are hard to come by, until you hit 1420 ilvl. Not even wanna talk about you can buy skins, what you can sell... or buy gold from third party websites via from bot users..... There're way too many bots, which already fucked up the economy of the game. Every single item what you wanna sell is cheap, on the other hand what you want to buy, such as legendary engravings or gems are insanely expensive (even if they aren't pricy, let's say those are standard prices. You can't really afford them, becuz you can't make money.) The game "forces" you to level up alts to be end game viable, cuz these alts used for farming materials and gold. Everything is time gated, which means now you have a chance to farm with 6 characters to get the daily mats or weekly gold from abysal dungeons and raids. And if all this didn't frightened you, then hear me out on this. You need to spend 3 hours in your main character to do every single daily. 2x Chaos Dungeon; 2x Guardian Raid; 3x Una's Task; 1xChaos Gate/World Boss/Ghost Ship (whichever is up); 1xAdventure Island; xy amount x Islands, which give you cards/gems/runes; Life Skills. Add +1 hour for each alt character. I mean you can leave your alts in sleep mode, but rested exp is still not optimal in my opinion. Did i mention you need to farm collectibles to gain skill potions/runes? The end game is four things: Legion Raid(s); Abyssal Raid; Abyssal Dungeon; Islands and maybe we can add infinite chaos dungeon runs as well, so 5. i spent 600+ hours in to the game and i regreted it... got 2 alts and a lot of collectibles (1160+ mokko seeds; 40 island souls; 10 giant hearts; 50 master pieces; maxed out every single adventure tome aside from rapports, etc...) If you are still intrested, then ignore the whole wall of text and give it a try and when you get there, you'll notice it. It's all about streamers, whales and bots. I hate it, becuz once i loved it.... 😞 Let's say you want a true Diablo like experience, then try out: Path of Exile - Lot of content, event mechanics, Insanely awesome "class" variety aka talent tree is MASSIVE! Grim Dawn - Long story, steam punkish feeling and lot of class variety Torchlight series - Beautiful graphics, spells Titan Quest - Mythological background Sacred series - Mainly 1. Great classes and slower paced gameplay
WH40K Inquisitor Martyr is the best of this list the game is always updated and many year after this release we will have a new class and a new season for hl farmer. Best team ever !
They are all there, make your choice!! Personally my favorite is by far PoE, this game is everything! I played Grim Dawn 4 hours and I found it low in skills, but yeah, I need to give it a other chance. But I really like Wolcen, and Torchlight 3 is now with Perfect World, so I never gonna touch it at all, but torchlight 2 look good.
Having put ungodly numbers of hours into both games, I'd say that, while Grim Dawn lacks the raw *number* of options as PoE, the options and decisions feel more meaningful. I'd highly recommend giving it more time.
@@XxKidnoffxX Entirely legit! And if it isn't your speed, that's okay too - they have their differences and everyone will enjoy one style more than the other :) I will also say that in Grim Dawn, different builds will have radically different numbers of skills. I've played builds with a dozen skills, and some as low as four.
@@Sturmensky I installed it last week, I have a full time job and.... I played 25 hours lol. Yeah, I LOVE it!!! The sound, the music are awesome and the RPG aspect is probably the best of ALL hack and slash I've played. The problem is when I tried it couple years ago, I want to make a cold build and I didn't find any cold spell (and now I have more time played and it's true, I didn't see a lot of cold spell). But I create a Necro, it's just OP man, really fun. I made a ''RF' style build in Hardcore too, I really enjoy the game. I don't know if this game got a 'mapping' system for the end game or if some dungeon and stuff are random, I hope yes. But it's good. The biggest problem for me it's the modding aspect... Yes lol you hear me right. It's fine for a solo game, but this kind of game is made for trading and mapping with people. But with the modding, everyone can edit their character and do whatever they want... Result? No public game lol, only hundreds of private game. Anyway, everyone gonna cheat, it ruin all the multiplayer for sure...
Love that you included Dungeon Siege 2! One of my favorite games of all time.
ya man..i remember playing that when i was 12 and learning how to alter hex values and making every drop a set item lol..it was so much fun
@@mikec5400 I was around 13 when i played it and it was the 1st arpg i was playing and i remember i was astounded that such a game existed.
Grim Dawn is extremely underrated I think its the best arpg on the market right now. It feels like the perfect balance between an older game like Diablo 2 and a more modern style game. Really surprised it doesn't have a much larger playerbase
As someone who has spent years trying to find the perfect balance of nostalgic Diablo-like and modern gameplay, lemme just say that Grim Dawn is simply perfect.
path of exile is wayyyy better.
@@joshuawolfe2222 Path of Exile is not good for your pc. It is known :P
I can't tell you how many times I'd start a game after dinner and the next thing I know it's 3:00 in the morning. I'd say "Just one more quest, how long could it take?"
Twice I called in to work after pulling an all nighter playing that game. It's gritty and dark and addictive af.
Last Epoch, Grim Dawn and Titan Quest Anniv Edition is my holy trinity post Diablo 2! these three rocks!
Sacred 2 will always be my favorit ARPG.
It's open World invites to Explorer and the slower paced combat adds to the atmosphere.
Just good times that lead to stay in.
It has level scaling, so it's automatically trash.
@@poppers7317 Really? I really like that 'cause it pushes my longtime motivation getting a constant challenge.
@@Sizzer1337 I hate it because everything feels the same. There are no real difficulty spikes with vastly more dangerous (and rewarding) enemies and there are no total pushovers that were dangerous some levels ago and now show you how far your character has come.
@@poppers7317 Yeah I get that, I got that feeling in games like Skyrim but in Hack'n'Slay it's more of a number grind than difficulty for me.
Definitely people should give it a try u won't regret it!
hope they remake or remaster this! I spent so many hours completing this game
My played games from this list.
- Torchlight 1-2
- Sacred 1-3
- Van Helsing 1-3
- Titan Quest
- Dungeon Siege (all of it)
- Grim Dawn
- Path Of Exile
These are the games on the list I plays or played and the rest is what still awaits for purchase and play it. Maybe someday I will grab it.
My mentions which was not put in the list are probably not the best ones but at least these were enjoyable.
- Darkstone
- Revenant
- Champions of Norrath
- Zax: Alien Hunter
- Nox
I remember Nox being fun, especially playing with Chakram...
Revenant was fun :)
There isn’t a Sacred 3. It never happened. :)
Good picks otherwise!
Champions of Norath, X-Men Legends & Marvel Ultimate Alliance were quite good in the PS2 era
Champions of Norrath was sooooooooooooooooooo good!
@@epmcgee You won't be disappointed. Grim Dawn is a very fun and rewarding game.

I always say to my self, next week, I am gonna try path of exile... But just ending up with a new character-build in grim dawn instead 😅👌
haha but seriously you need to try path of exile
Yeah, PoE has a lot of different content and mechanics. It can feel a bit overwhelming when you open skill tree the first time, but the diversity it gives you is amazing!
You really do need to try PoE. GD was my go-to to scratch the Diablo itch for a while, then I tried PoE. They're both great games, but (in my opinion, at least) PoE is superior in every conceivable way.
@@somewherewest2556 poe 2 I will try for sure, when the game comes out. I just started my HC career inn GD 🤙
PoE is great but it sucks up way too much time. You can play grim dawn casual or go balls deep. PoE only has one speed. Imo
None of these quite scratch the Diablo 2 itch for me. That game is magical
I am impressed by the variety of games here and will definitely try some of these games. Nice video!
I love the Sacred game series!
Hope you enjoy it!
Torchlight 2 is still one of my favorite arpgs. And let's not forget all the mods you can add to the game to create a whole new game. With some mods adding more levels, bosses, loot, bag space, pets. Because of the mods it has so much replayability.
Chronicle = Hero Siege! Hello 👋 from Russia with love)
Champions of Norrath!!!
@@sziklamester1244 Another couple of exclamation marks would not be too much there :)
Champions of Norrath is still a top notch game to be sure.
"should have added better scenes that represent the game"
I feel this was true of SEVERAL games presented here. So many clips of him trying to attack walls or wandering around aimlessly.
I agree too. Sacred 2 and dungeon siege 2 are pretty good games, but the game play that was shown was boring
same Hybrid Classes are in Grim Dawn

Awesome review, thanks for summary on diablo-like games. You might try to have a look on Blade and Sword 1 (2002) and 2 (2003), Throne of Darkness (2001) and Hellgate: London (2007). They are kinda old but they're still fun.

Martyr looks very cool. Also i can't believe how they managed to fuck up Dark Alliance 2 SO insanely bad.
I've had the urge of coming back hard into this genre since the Immortal fiasco and ended up stumbling on V Rising which feels delicious.
So yes, there is a big need for this kind of games to implement the ability to rotate the camera. Cannot go back once you feel it's potential.
Same, but i think Last Epoch is the juiciest of them all.
Grim Dawn actually can rotate the camera arround your character in a 360 and have a zoom in/zoom out too. I don't know for the others, so... Yeah!

A game to become successful doesn't need only great graphics and mechanics. To succeed it needs a catchy name and a memorable storyline! Most of the games shown here have really bad and difficult to remember names!

Just think of the storyline and the name itself. 50% of the players if not 80% attracted to it initially was because they could remember that name and the storyline was amazing.

Victor Vran and Torchlight 2 are probably 8th and 9th respectively but there's a big gap after 7th spot.
Interesting. I was a huge D1, D2 and D2 LOD fan. BL2 aswell.. I will be looking at grim dawn and poe now.
You mean you can't even respec your characters? ... sorely another reason to boycott PoE
First video from you I see, and very good work, so I need to subscribe
Thanks for this list. If I had to pick ONE game on this list to +1, it'd be The Ascent; highly recommended!!
Good choice!
Champions of Norrath was a genius ARPG on PS2, supporting up to 4 Player Coop per Multitap
Which ones are mmo/online co-op ?
more than half of them
Good list. There were even a few surprises I might try out here, thanks!
Hope you enjoy!
Great video! Because of it I bought Warhammer Chaosbane (funny thing is, I have never heard of it and I am huge fan of ARPG games) and I am having a BLAST with this game! Can't thank you enough! Keep up the good work!
Glad I could help!
If you love chaosbane then try to play Wh40k Inquisitor martyr ! Its a masterclass
Having played Diablo from its first demo days ... I'm a loyal PoE player :D the level of customization, the dizzying variety of builds you can do, especially with the Scion prestige class and the Ascendant class upgrades ... it has awesome replayability and still looks good today.
How easy is it to get started with? Could install it and be playing in 15 minutes with no prior exposure to it?

Nice list! I've played some like Grim Dawn but there were a couple I hadn't heard of like Eclispe that I want to try.
Hope you enjoy it!
Loki is really underrated game may not be the best Diablo like game but you should definitely try it!
;-)
Last Epoch is the best ARPG I ever played after Diablo 2. I can't wait for Multiplayer release. It will be more famous
Yup I'm just waiting for the coop patch and online characters before I jump back in.
I 've beed playing more ARPG games like D2 and Last Epoch is almost perfect in any way. Every fan of D2 should check it right now !
@@lorien6678 i agree with you! As a diablo fan, LE is my favourite from modern arpgs.
LE is decent for where it is in development. But PoE is superior in everyway
Chaosbane Slayer Edition on the PS5 is AMAZING!
Grim Dawn is the best game ever created, with fantastic super-high quality mods available. 4000 hours in. Buy it, now!
Couldn't agree more!
And bringing the Emperors Justice to the enemies of mankind with a blessed heavy Bolter is a very special feeling, no other ARPG can deliver :)
The Ascent is great - both visiually and gameplay-wise - but it is more of a Twin-Stick Shooter than an ARPG. The replayability is much lower, because it lacks variety and loot-hunt.
@@Nachtmahr79 these games are expensive. its $70 and it came out 4 years ago?
@@Nachtmahr79 well, there is an old 2d-and-a-half ARPG with a really crude resolution, Sacred Gold (that is the original Sacred with an expansion). This one sports a totally anachronistic dwarf that can use pistols or uses a cannon mounted on his back. Absolutely hilarious.
PoE is fun until it gets to the point where you're keeping spread-sheets and taxing your GPU like you're mining crypto.
From hitting a scary dude on the beach with a stick to becoming a natural disaster with legs, it's a fun journey.
Only downside is that you really do need to hit the "books" and research what items can / can't be made, the probabilities of being able to farm them / craft them, and how the various mechanics work or don't work well together.
yep definitely a game that needs a lot of time investment on learning the mechanics
Basically it’s a casual game if you casually build The Matrix in your spare time.
@@s4mm4el I feel the same like you, and no doubt PoE is the King of Arpgs right now (have also 8k+ hours), but i understand that someone won't like it as much. Not everyone has a ton of time and the patience to learn PoE, it is just to complex for new players. Grim Dawn is a very nice middle ground.
@@s4mm4el yeah and I bet you have spent more money in poe then you could even possibly think of spending grim dawn because you only have to purchase grim dawn once. Where as poe is the most disgustingly priced cosmetics I've ever seen....and paid stash tabs? Like seriously that's some stupid shit and don't understand how someone can get into this game and be ok with the amount of money they ask for.
@@XxgoodbudsxX you don’t have to buy them. Of all the things to whine about that is silly
(maybe the newer ones did the ragdoll but not the loot) and i would take a big bet, Diablo 4 will also missing on these very important stuffs.

just because Lost Ark is described as n MMO-Arpg doesn't make it even close to a Diablo like game ....
thank you lol. I was gonna comment something similar to this. I hate seeing people say "Lost Ark is like Diablo" LITERALLY the only thing they have in common, is the ARPG style combat. And even then, Diablo pales in comparison since Lost Ark is way more deep with it's combat.
@@Veloros1047 chaos dungeons is alot similier to style of rifts from D3
Ehm, like half of those games in this list are even farther from Diablo then the Lost Ark xD

I love Torchlight, Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn.
good taste :)

thats some chunky nice list of arpgs.. gj
Which one of them are free to play?
What is the thumbnail image you used in this video?
lost ark
Dark alliance was dope because you could unlock Drizzt Do'urden
No shit! I just started the forgotten realms series last summer. that's badass
Been getting into path of exile and after a week of playing the Templar I’m in love
The end game is four things: Legion Raid(s); Abyssal Raid; Abyssal Dungeon; Islands and maybe we can add infinite chaos dungeon runs as well, so 5.
i spent 600+ hours in to the game and i regreted it... got 2 alts and a lot of collectibles (1160+ mokko seeds; 40 island souls; 10 giant hearts; 50 master pieces; maxed out every single adventure tome aside from rapports, etc...)
If you are still intrested, then ignore the whole wall of text and give it a try and when you get there, you'll notice it. It's all about streamers, whales and bots. I hate it, becuz once i loved it.... 😞
Let's say you want a true Diablo like experience, then try out:
Path of Exile - Lot of content, event mechanics, Insanely awesome "class" variety aka talent tree is MASSIVE!
Grim Dawn - Long story, steam punkish feeling and lot of class variety
Torchlight series - Beautiful graphics, spells
Titan Quest - Mythological background
Sacred series - Mainly 1. Great classes and slower paced gameplay
I'd say Grim Dawn is 2 on this list, LE 3, Lost ark 5 (It's not an ARPG. It's just an MMO with the top-down camera)
Destiny 2 and Borderlands have more in common with Diablo than Lost Ark does. The similarities are only skin deep on that one.
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 and Champions of Norrath 1+2 if you liked Baldur's Gate btw.
;-)
how many and which of these are also found on consoles?
Path of Exile is just simply amazing.
WH40K Inquisitor Martyr is the best of this list the game is always updated and many year after this release we will have a new class and a new season for hl farmer.
Best team ever !
Yep me too
Great video, thank you. Comment to support you.

Good choice!
Having put ungodly numbers of hours into both games, I'd say that, while Grim Dawn lacks the raw *number* of options as PoE, the options and decisions feel more meaningful. I'd highly recommend giving it more time.
@@Sturmensky Thank you, I really gonna give it a other chance. I have a lot of other games to do right now, but I will
@@XxKidnoffxX Entirely legit! And if it isn't your speed, that's okay too - they have their differences and everyone will enjoy one style more than the other :)
I will also say that in Grim Dawn, different builds will have radically different numbers of skills.
I'm about to buy and test Ghostlore....sounds promising :)
Is there any games like dawn bringer just wondering because I can't find that style offline
