I loved the anime. It's a pity the game only goes until the amnesia part, I would love to play a game that covers the whole story. Even more if it was turn based
I heard this game wasn't good at all. Lots of bad reviews for it sadly. I'm a huge dragon quest fan but i'll probably just skip this one for monsters later in the year
Strong video as usual. Wasen't sure if I really need this game - now it's clear. This game will be picked up for a reasonable pricing (lets say 35€, so not full price but also not a rip off for the devs).
@shinoff-tw4eq same honestly! It looks fun, I do think DQ needs to purely stay turn based but it genuinely looks like it could be a good time. But I'm not buying a digital only game, I skipped out on bombrush cyberfunk for that same reason
@codysvlogdays I've been meaning to call square of America to see if I can ask why they do this to Playstation players. It seems alot of the releases get physical switch versions. I don't understand that part. I doubt I get an answer but I'd still try. They've missed a bunch of sales from me over the past few years with this from live a live, front mission, not having the dragon quest with Erik and his sister on ps(witch I get, but was it exclusive to switch cause square didn't think ps players were interested, I put 250 hours into dq11, damn right I was interested). Square baffles me. I am grateful for the star ocean 2 remkar physical though.
@shinoff-tw4eq Maybe nintendo pays them more to ensure a physical gets made or its in the contract for switch exclusive square games that they HAVE to have a physical release? Idk, I have no clue what could be the reason. It's really aggravating because I'm a huge fan of their games and their worlds, but they are doing everything in their power to try n turn me away.
Shame the game sux...I was looking forward to it really surprising that he didn't say it's bad and looks like he said it's good cause they sponsored video
@@davidbastos5627 most well know games in a year are average score? This yr alone has so many great games that are "well known" it would take to long to list but just start with re4,tears of the kingdom, balder gate, armored core ...a dragon quest game should be much better then 5/10
I just finished it my man, and it's a solid 7/10 as far as I'm concerned. Sponsored or not, I always give my honest opinion. I didn't realise I had to hate a game because others decided to trash on it.
@@TheKisekiNut definitely don't have to hate a game cause of others opinion and your the main reason I got into trails games love your work....but when I hear you talk about controls in the game being tight and well made for a action RPG I'm a lil suspect that's one of my biggest complaints about the game very stiff control and no weight behind hits but definitely entitled to your opinion.
I feel like there's a difference between it being "simple" and it having little depth to combat while also being nothing but arena fight after arena fight, with the story presented as stills directly from the anime. This could have been amazing but they checked out on everything besides the visuals and music, and it leaves us with a product that feels very cheap and doesn't even cover half the manga's story. And with how poorly this game is gonna sell because of this, and Squeenix's announced intent to steer away from mid-budget games, it 99% guarantees we will never see the rest of the story in game format.
ultimate ninja storm is way better if you want to compare an arena battle. it's not unplayable but lets just admit it, a game where most reviewer (both negative and positive review) said get it on 50% or more off on release day is not a good game. especially from square enix.
It's no where near as bad as people make out. I just finished it and haven't played anything else since I started. It's not a masterpiece, but it's not the travesty that people make it out to be either.
The original *1991 Dragon Quest Dai anime (Dai no Daibouken)* is MY CHILDHOOD and was also my *all time favorite anime* back in the 90s. The only regret I have is that the original anime wasn't finished and stopped at episode 46 (REALLY wish they continued it to the end back then). And yes, I'm aware of the 2020 anime remake (I remember crying when I saw that announcement), but sadly, in terms of "comparable episodes" (i.e. The original anime's 46 episodes vs the remake anime's 25 episodes), the remake anime PALES IN COMPARISON to the original anime and cannot compete whatsoever in terms of action sequences (particularly against main villains) and ESPECIALLY in the *music* department. As for the video game, I've been playing it since yesterday and unfortunately, the game is more of a "summary of the anime" than an "action-based video game". I expected more from this game than the *shallow* gameplay it has shown so far..... :(
I didn't watched the original anime, just some comparative clips here and there, and while I agree the music is weak in the new one, the animation is actually pretty good, especially the important battles in the last arc are beautifully animated. I know the old one has it's charm but the new one definitely has its merits.
Maaann - I don't know why I read the comments. About a year ago I played through, and plat'd, both Dragon Quest Heroes games. I hated the first one, felt like the longest 50 hour, tower defense game I've ever played. But I put 200 hours into the second one and loved every second of it, grindy "basic" gameplay and all. What made a huge difference was how responsive the game felt. I love musou style games no matter how people write them off, and this still looks exactly like the gameplay I wanted, from the first trailer. I'm trusting you when you say the game feels tight, and I'm here for it.
Well I literally just finished the game, and I haven't played anything else since I started playing it. It could have been because my expectations were rock bottom for a game based on an anime, but it's a solid 7/10 for me. Even if it is sponsored I will always give my unfiltered opinion on what I think about a game, and this one is nowhere near as bad as people make out.
Well if I really hated it, then I wouldn't finish the game. But I've literally just done so and had a great time overall. Is it so hard to accept that my thoughts on the game aren't as negative as those who call it 'the worst DQ game ever'? Clearly they never played Swords.
Does anyone know if the Japanese physical version play with an English Dub? I was under the impression that it would be release over here in the UK but i cannot find a physical release of it.
I just finished it, and it's a good game as far as I'm concerned. I normally play several games at once, but I've dedicated all my time to this one since I started. No where near as bad as others make it out to be.
yeh, it looks great from what I have seen. Though I am more excited for the new Dragon Quest Jokers! - have u tried the demo for that yet? Oh man it's been so long since I heard DQ noises. I got so excited lol@@TheKisekiNut
I was so disappointed by the game. They had a huge sleeper hit in the makin' ( the manga story is amazing and so is the new remade anime ). Easy recipe: Turn based battle like all mainline DQ Animated cutscene ( hell they could even re'use the anime ) All of the story .... please. ... Just a Dragon quest like any other but with Dai story. They could even added an epilogue where you can reunite with Dai after the end ( I won't spoil anybody ) This could have been easily a major hit.
Dunno how anyone could say this game is good, if you played the previous Dragon Quest Heroes games that were made what 5-10 years ago and compare them to this. They were 5 times better with way more content and things to do, plus they looked better. On the other hand, I do think the story of this one is more engaging but that's only because It's directly copying an anime plot line and somehow manage to be less immersive/interesting. Hands down, if you want to try this game please wait until it is half off or more, you will thank me unless you got money to waste.
I tried hard to love the DQ serie but the stories are way too simple (borderline boring) to keep me engaged. I understand it is a design decision but in the end it feels like every single instalment in the franchise just tells the same story over and over with new characters.
I am surprised that you made this video before commenting on the news about Trails Through Daybreak.
I loved the anime. It's a pity the game only goes until the amnesia part, I would love to play a game that covers the whole story. Even more if it was turn based
I'm not familiar with the anime, but it definitely goes beyond the amnesia.
@@TheKisekiNut just to avoid spoilers, I'll only say that it's not even close to the halfway point

Honestly, DQM doesn't look good either.

Too bad this isn’t actually a decent game. I don’t know what they were thinking with making it no exploration or such vapid gameplay
And no physical copy, so it ruins any chance for a lot of people like me buying it
