@@BlueberryStinkFinger62 You don't know what you are talking about. Randy was an incredible player and inspired Metal players all around the world. Aside from the not-so-great Quiet Riot albums, he only recorded two studio albums worth of his awesome playing. If Randy had lived he likely would have done another dozen or so Metal albums before moving on to Classical guitar.

Wow. I've seen the RR3 on four different channels in the last month. That thing is touring more than most bands! ;-) I have to say, however, that it hurts to see that the guitar was modified since Grover built it. I get that an owner can do what he wants but it would have been nice if it stayed just the way Randy would have received it.

Wanna know the funny part of this video for me? I watched it while holding and playing my OWN first Jackson! Of course, it's a FMIC product instead of being Jackson/Charvel, like the Charvels I owned and lost to theft in the last century, but it was still cool.
Now, something that many will not think is cool. Were I as rich as I would need to be to buy Randy's prototype, I still wouldn't! I would actually be more likely to buy a current RR3 or something similar if I wanted that look. I would even more likely just get a good Dinky with a Floyd or something I could modify to taste. My having learned much of guitar modification and adjustment has taken a lot of the mystery out of guitars for me. I'm less taken with the prestige factor and more with taking a given axe and making it more than it was when I got it. Making it MINE! Know what I mean?😎🤘

It would be played as well and not hidden away in a case under my bed. As much of a fan I am of Randy's, and not just for his playing alone but how he carried himself as a person, I wish I had the cash to buy it. But like most of us, all we can do is watch the videos and read the articles to appreciate it, since that's as close as we'll get to the guitar.

I didn't want to take the lessons but I was really glad that I did what I met Sean and I learned from Sean to move quickly and stop smoothly. So if I was a multi-millionaire I'd be willing to part with a quite a large amount of money for that guitar. Even more than he's asking.

I basically grew up a Strat guy as I was learning to play, but all the same I was deeply in lust with the Jackson Rhoads. In regard to your comments of it sounding basically like a Les Paul, that doesn't surprise me knowing that Randy also had a Custom as one of his main axes.
And while this guitar is by and large the final prototype of the production Rhoads, it's still one of a kind in a way. I think this will probably fetch mid six figures at auction.

I wish he would have said what Seymour Duncan pickups. Seymour makes so many models. The ones in the guitar sound great.

Not sure what came in that one, but my ‘84 Rhoads came with a Jazz neck and a Distortion bridge. I seem to recall that was standard on them in the early days.

Dude. You are so lucky to be able to play this guitar. Most people who own a guitar worth this much wouldn't let another person even touch it.

I’ve heard it was Randy’s idea to put the Jackson name on it. I have an ‘84 Rhoads serial number under 750. Never much cared for the shape, but it’s an incredible player.

    Great video Max!
Please please can you tell us what models the 2 original seymour duncan pickups are? Been searching in online in different forums and been watching other videos on this guitar without success. Pete Thorn says that they are Seymour Duncan customs. And in your video Sean says the the originals are the same as the once curently in the guitar. But what model are the original pickups??

I think this is great story. It was on '83 Namm and Grover said it was one of greatest mistakes he made.
They had three of these guitars and Black RR Jackson was Randy playing. They were waiting if hed want any modifications on his future guitars

Was this guitar insured or anything? I mean, I see this " they accidently sold Randy Rhodes prototype guitar" being said like "Oh , you know, these things happen." Stolen, I get. Things like that do happen. Could you imagine " Oh, hey. Mr Hetfield. Funny thing happened today. You know what good old Bob did? He sold your brand new, prototype guitar that was built especially for you. Hilarious, right?"

Its priceless. Needs to be in the RRHOF. Or with the Rhodes family 💯🎶🎵. If it wasn't for Randy Rhodes this guitar would have never been designed. 💯🎸

The damage RR would have done with this guitar can only be imagined.

Brass parts! Makes a difference, PU’s direct to wood is cool, but brass parts translate the tone better, plus the strings through not only the body, but another
piece of brass, I’ll bet Randy wanted brass, I’ve found it to make a difference, the focused attack…..the other sound key were his Altec loaded cabs,
i met Seymour Duncan in 1980
at his shop in Santa Barbara, with a friend buying 1/4Lb jazz bass PU’s, mid eighties I bought a JB for a guitar I had…..now all
my guitars have a JB in the bridge, it’s the tone I want to hear

Beautifully designed guitar and classic look. It sounded great, but I was really disappointed that it didn't have the original pickups in it. Glad the owner still has them. Why is he selling it? Thanks
