I'm making it my goal that 2024 will be my last year shooting weddings. I've been trying to create a course to help offshoot it, but it's been a struggle to get people to buy the course. But, I'm starting to get into corporate/promotional work, having a mentor start helping me, and hopefully in late 2024/2025 I won't be filming a single wedding!
I am completely agree with this... and there is more. For me the biggest issue with weddings is that there is no real scalable model around it. No way to build a business that will grow and make you more money (forget about passive income). The only way to make more money on weddings is to do more weddings. And you can do that in your 20s, 30s, maybe 40s but are you gonna be doing that in your 50s, 60s? probably not.
And the problem is you might be the best weddings videographer out there but the entire know-how is tided to your person, you can't hire someone to do the job for you, therefor scale your business. And if you try to do so, you train someone, the person will quickly realize he does not need to be employed by you to do weddings, as it is an open market with pretty much zero barriers to entry.
it is scalable. Hire other shooters and don't create a brand that uses your personal name. Call it a collective and you're there. Still though - the margins in weddings are slim.

I always say NO to doing weddings. I was told by a retired wedding photographer "Don't do weddings! If you want to keep your soul - don't get into doing weddings." The drama, the issues, the pressure, and most people want it so cheap - it's not worth it for me.
I used to think I made good money from scaffolding. 2k a day profit on the weekend doing private jobs. I know someone who shoots weddings and makes 3k. But he did say things have slowed down.
I do max three weddings per year. Just because I love to make weddingfilms. But this is just a paid private fun for me. Main biz is recurring corporate content and scaling my agency.
Great insight - I photographed weddings for 20+ years and only do a few per year now. I also did hybrid work combining video and stills to create a short video when there wasn't a videographer. Being on the same page is critical, and the old saying is so true in any work. If it isn't written, it wasn't said.

editing a wedding fast makes no sense it takes time to create a wedding video. its not a commercial edit its highly creative like a movie. movie editing can take months lol
