I signed up for AOD 6 months ago. I am a Producer and Story Work Editor for NatGeo and a Writer for PBS Kids. Even though I’ve been in the game for years with winning awards along the way, I still learned from this class. There were also some techniques that I haven’t done in years and the class reminded me of them. If anything, listening and watching these classes, kept me in the film mode and had me constantly thinking about how I am going to go about making my upcoming documentary. Worth every penny.
This and the direction of the always leading to AOD in EVERY VIDEO gives very that Quasi colour grading guy vibes . We’re in a constant telemarketing call 💔 which sucks cos ur so dope
One thing I love about your videos, is without fail they always get me HYPED to work on docs I’ve been wanting to make. I’ve only ever done one from start to finish but hoping to have a handful done by the end of the year, I’ve been doing corporate/product video for quite a few years but have always been drawn to the doc. even if they’re just short little fun ones with local people, I need to create something to scratch that itch. Appreciate you brother 🤘🏻
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1,727 subs and > 1k hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
@@RAForest Whoever you are, I don't know you personally but I can say that you're one of the non-judgmental and open-minded people who is not fixated on tangible or external factors in order to learn from someone like me. Just because someone doesn't have a piece of paper as a credential, doesn't mean that person is not entitled to share personal experiences with the hope & intention to inspire others. Keep up with whatever it is that you're doing to improve mankind or improving your life even to a slight degree each day. This is just one part of a bigger puzzle for creating my UA-cam channel about holistic health. I literally could have died back when I was 14 years old due to major depression but here I am right now replying to you, a UA-camr, who's full of fulfillment and dedication to help others to be a better version of themselves. I ain't better than anyone else but my old self. That's all that really makes this UA-cam thing more meaningful and enjoyable. Thanks so much for your support! I am hoping that you can join me with this endless personal development journey! :)
So timely, as I set out to document my city and outlying areas, the cultures, the sights and sounds for a client that will narrate and sometimes appear in the series of mini shorts. All great stuff!! Thanks Mark :)
Developing past the standard sit down is an extremely hard transition. But the content improves exponentially! I highly recommend exploring the last few styles in this list.
Man, I love your channel. Shooting a documentary about beekeepers and all this is so good to come back to and see another documentarian's perspective on shooting. Thanks brother!
Hey Mark - i LOVE AOD. I'm enrolled in Module 1 and have learned so much and was able to complete my first short doc. I can't wait to get into module 2 next week! Very excited about Feedback Hours. Thanks for all you guys do.
Thank you very much mark . Well I am just trying to form some shooting scenario in my mind : Take 2 full frame video cameras, one with 50mm and one with 85mm, and I make a conversation where I’m the host and part of the frame with the subject in the frame of the camera with the 50mm and my subject has the camera with 85mm directed just on him for close ups, and then in editing I can interleave between these two
Great information. I wish in our schools there were courses in many things beyond trying to stay awake listening to a boring teacher on a political rant. Shops in this area would be a hit as so many people now use cellphones and these inexpensive video cameras. In my day, it was stills and video tape (ugg). Today the world has opened up like never before. Teaching people to make videos that capture one's attention is very important. These kids who grow into young adults and on are our new news broadcasters. The MSM is veritually dead, locked into an agenda controlled by the elite, while these new kids can bring us things the MSM refuses to show. Keep up the good work. BTW I'm going to turn my daughter onto your videos and others as I am gifting her a new Sony ZV-E10. She and her hubby run a Cross Fit gym and created videos from time to time. Maybe she can get excited about going beyond boring videos.
Thank you , I needed this yesterday and your video showed up in my TL. Mark would you mind telling me what are the camera settings you used when you are in camera , I love that look , Thanks man👍

We really appreciate your efforts you put in and your style of documenting the way of documenting is also appreciable ... would like to hear more about documenting with least possible(equipments + crew) .. Make something around Solo Documenting *Hacks revealed😊😊 Best wishes from Peace Musick Records 🎉
So my question is with standard, does the talent seem to be looking into space or are you directing them to look at something just right off from the camera?
Hi mark, would you make a video about “how to shoot a documentary like the office”? Meaning what it takes to pull of the look and feel. I know you have to have zooms, quick pans, and interviews but is there more to it?
I'd love to experiment with the second style here but I am a one man band, doing run and gun. It's tough sometimes to get people to look right into the lens. Since watching your videos, I've worked more on the counter shot (listening).
Wanted to thank you for a great vid. Helped a lot. I've been trying to get going in both soft soft and didn't get very far. TNice tutorials vid helped a
Hey Mark! Amazing channel! Is there a coupon code to sign up for Module 1 or just the early bird special? I’m very interested in learning but I’m totally starting from scratch!

mate there all interesting ways to shoot ive never done it we just capture conversations on the fly im guna try it on the mates next trip betcha its a laughfest cause their all silly buggers goodonya bro cheers
Thanks Mark! I’m curious what the community thinks is the difference between Styles 3, 4, 5 & 6 (Conversational, Host + Standard, and Host + Conversation, and In the Moment). I’m struggling to understand the difference.
It really depends what the context of the scene/interview is and who the characters are to the story. Conversation would be your characters talking to each other. So not the 'film' interviewing the subject. If there's a host it changes dynamic a little bit because is the film now about the hosts journey, or is the host simply an aid in helping tell the subjects story? And then is it the 'host' conducting an interview, like 60 minutes style. Or is the host having a conversation and being more apart of the scene, like Bourdain style. And then 'in the moment' really is the two people sharing an experience which the audience gets to experience also. It can still lead to conversation, but there's some kind of 'action' to the scene usually.

"Showing is way more interesting than telling.." Now thats the truth! Thanks for all you do Mark!
