Is there a season between the old and new testament?
How do we describe the period of preaching of gospel by Jesus on earth? Is that period a period of law or the period of grace or a mixed period?
Unless we understand this truth, we would be in the darkness about the mystery of gospels. Amen.
The gospel period in the Bible is an intervening period between the Moses law and the age of grace. Both of them operated simultaneously.
Jesus has played the role of 1) King of Jews or Messiah and 2) the Redeemer of Mankind / Son of God.
As King of Jews, Jesus has preached the truth to the Jews. Jesus has followed the Moses law as He was bound by the Moses law. Jesus was born under the Law (Galatians 4:4-5). Jesus followed all the rituals of the Moses law.
As redeemer of the mankind, Jesus preached to His disciples and general public, outside the Temple.
Whatever Jesus has preached as Redeemer of mankind is applicable for the Jews and gentiles alike today. Whatever Jesus has said as King of Jews to the Israelite is not applicable for Jews and gentiles now as the Law was fulfilled and abolished on the Cross. Now there is only one law, the law of Jesus, applicable for the Jews and gentiles alike. (Romans 3:28-30).
Unless we understand the two roles of Jesus, we will be deceived. Abiding in any of the old testament laws is a deception. (Luke 5:36-39, John 14:15,23,24). We are expected to follow ONLY the Jesus commandments now.
If you watch the following teaching video in Tamil, you would understand easily the two roles of Jesus:
The two faces of Jesus in the gospel books, Redeemer of mankind (to pay price for our sins) and King of Jews/Messiah (to fulfill the Law).

The period between Moses law and the Jesus law
When Jesus walked on earth, He was preaching and teaching to both the crowds, the Moses law Jews and His disciples.
Whatever He said came into being immediately. For example, Jesus showed grace and forgave the women caught for adultery in John #8. Moses law does not have any such grace. Jesus ought to have stoned her to death as per Moses Law. Jesus did not do that. Grace came into the world right there itself. (John 1:17)
John 1:17 (NKJV) For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Water baptism was not in the Law. But Jesus not only submitted Himself to water baptism but also called it “for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness”.
Matthew 3:15 (NKJV) But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
Luke 7:30 (NKJV) But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.
Baptism is the will of God that was rejected by the Moses law Jews. They lost out as per Luke 7:30. That means, whatever Jesus has introduced anew was immediately made applicable for the Jews who were under the Moses Law. The law was revised by Jesus then and there. This is the intervening period. In this period, the Moses law was altered and upgraded as per the revisions announced by Jesus in the temple and outside the temple. The Jews were bound by the revised law as Jesus is their King. But the Jews rejected the law of Jesus. This is a different matter. For us, we need to understand that the Law was constantly revised by Jesus when He walked and spoke on the earth. The Law continued to be valid too in this period. The Jews had to follow the Jesus law and also the Moses law.
When we understand this intervening period, we would understand the Moses law (old testament) which is never given to the gentiles and we would understand clearly the Jesus law which is the final authority now for the Jews and gentiles alike..
