Wow that Captain Victory by Kirby is gorgeous

The fact that these are underground comics from 25-35 years and that art and concepts smoke a majority of the trash Marvel and DC have on the shelves today is a testament.

Y'all have to stop draining my bank account. Watched your Miracle Man episode, bought Miracle Man. Watched Rick Veitch episode, bought Brat Pack and The One. I'm gonna blame my impulses on you guys.

For real. Picked up some Squeak the Mouse and plenty of others due to their influence lately.

No wonder there's a shortage of Domu, when Ed's just hoarding all the copies ;)

Really loving these quarter bin finds videos. So much nostalgia and so much stuff I've never seen before. Have you thought about doing a video on a character or titles travels. Showing the different companies and even formats they came out as? When you mentioned The Elementals I recalled another super group called The Justice Machine that seemed to come out and vanish several times.

Awesome finds! I love seeing the issues of Tekkonkinkreet and Black Jack! Amazing

I'm writing down every comic in this video (and any additional info about them) so I can make sure there is some kind of record of them in the ComicVine wiki. A lot of this involves pausing the video everytime there's a credits page so I can scribble down any information I can find.
It's been fun to plug the holes in the database with these strange forgotten comics. It would be a shame for them to disappear and there to be no records of it.

Yokinobu Hoshino did an adaptation of the James P. Hogan novel The Two Faces of Tomorrow, which Dark Horse translated in the 90s, it's a fantastic piece of hard SF, the book and the manga are both great reads.

Love the enthusiasm you guys bring. I lost a lot of interest in comics until I ran into Brandon Graham's blog some years back, and he was doing similar stuff as you guys: showcasing cool stuff he found in the quarter boxes, highlighting certain artists, sharing some of his process, etc. It inspired me to dig through the quarter boxes. My collection grew to a certain point, it felt kind of stale again, and I gifted most of it to several friends (definitely some stuff I regret letting go of now, but it is what it is). Though there was a little bit of resistance at first, I started watching the channel, and you re-ignited my interest once again, and my collection is getting bigger and more robust, and I'm enjoying it a lot. You've also inspired me to put more focused work into the craft, and I hope that I'll have something to send to you sooner rather than later. Thanks guys!

Thanks for showing off some Rick McCollum stuff. I love his old Ninja Turtles work, so its great to see some of his other work. Also, good save on the Captain Victory comics. Did you know the Captain is written as the son of Orion of the New Gods, and the lingering "spirit" in Cap Victory is basically Darkseid's ghost. This was when Kirby still wanted all the New Gods to die at the end of the Fourth World. There is a good essay in an issue of the Kirby Collector about it.

Empire Lanes actually does have a bowling angle. It's about fantasy characters who get mystically transported into a bowling alley.

Hey boys, back from summer camp in Vermont and catching up on your videos. Starhead wasn't Mack White's company - it was Seattle's major sub-Fantagraphics small press outlet in the 80s, run by Michael Dowers. They did a free newsprint comics tabloid in the late 80s early 90s called the Seattle Star that published a ton of the era's best cartoonists.

Mea culpa! Thanks for the clarification. I'll never forget Michael's name as he was the guy I sent dozens of submissions packets to at Fanta when I was a lad in the 90s. --Ed

Cat Claw is pretty famous here in Serbia ( and generally all of the ex- Yugoslavia countries). The artist Bane Kerac actually drew Mark Hamill's comic project The Black Pearl (under the H.M. Baker pseudonym).

I had that Mad Hunda Day Day Comic! (still might be with the stuff I left in Chicago) Probably bought it at Chicago Comicon or Motor City Comicon in the late 90s. I might be tripping, but I seem to recall people in Papier mache costumes of those characters pushing that book

Alex looks awesome, I've never seen it before but I really like the use of tones and the loose gestures, kind of reminded me of Inio Asano

It always makes me anxious when there are bagged comics with the old price tags on them in the cheap bins. I feel like I have to make a point to let the clerk know where they came from.

Action Force, loosely based on Captain Action, the ideal action figure who dressed up as Marvel, DC, King Features and other heroes like Lone Ranger.

Really like these quarter box hauls. Martin Powell is still writing comics, mostly Tarzan stuff for the Edgar Rice Burroughs site: www.edgarriceburroughs.com/new-comic-strip-launch-tarzan-twins/ He's on Facebook too as are a lot of those old guys. I saw the other day, Tim Truman's GrimJack is going be made into an Amazon series. Could be good.
