Presently (v1.18.2), the only arcade core available is still FBNeo. The Online Updater lists “system files” downloads for MAME2003-plus and other non-present cores, but these are not the cores themselves. There is no Core Downloader on iOS/iPadOS/tvOS, due to the way each core must be “signed” and included with the app distribution on this platform. Even sideloaded versions must have the cores signed and included before installation. That said, the aforementioned release included several newly added cores, including PRBOOM (Doom), DOSBox-Pure (DOS) and NXEngine (CaveStory) among others… so MAME2003-plus may get added in a future update, too?
Try changing TV setting for optimizing picture quality over HDMI. On my Samsung it was called HDMI UHD Color (something about 4:4:4 and 4:2:2). It was resolved by disabling it for me.
Love the array of content, especially Apple products. I’ve got one for you: I have a 27” inch display port” cinema display and an 3rd gen 4k Apple TV connected via display port to HDMI adapter. Love having Apple TV playing off to the side in my office but here’s my issue, I can’t control the sound. The Apple TV remote has sound controls but it doesn’t control the cinemas sound, any suggestions?
Thanks for the message. Sometimes I feel my broad range of interests hurts the channel vs just sticking to one subject. I’m glad you enjoy the variety. As for your question, that’s a good one. I don’t think you can do anything about it on the screen itself. The only I can think of is to use a hdmi audio extractor and plug in some small amplified speakers with a volume knob. amzn.to/3Nqz62o
Thank you for the video. I'm stuck on trying to change the interface. it says "Restart required," yet I see no way to restart RetroArch. I restarted the AppleTV, and it didn't work. Anyone know how to make the new interface stick? Thanks.
If you double tap the home icon on the remote (the one that looks like a TV), it will allow you to refresh apps. At that point, you can just scroll over until you find Retroarch, then swipe up to get rid of it (I generally don't do this for apps unless there is an issue and it needs a fresh start, like here). After that, navigate back to the home screen and re-open retroarch, and that should open it fresh with your new interface. Hope that helps! EDIT: I just tried this for myself and for some reason when I do restart it, the interface setting changes back to the original one instead of switching over. So I'm not sure why that's happening, but hopefully it'll work for you
Got some great arcade games working as well as great multiplayer console games from N64 and will put PS1 and Saturn games too. How do Saturn games perform?
Of all the core/emulators on retroarch I can’t get (beetle) saturn to work on retroarch for apple tv. I can get n64, ps1, psp and ds games, 32x and all the rest but not saturn. Not sure if this is an exclusive apple tv retroarch issue; from my experience it seems to be. I have the bios file saved in the right spot (retroarch/system) but it won’t work no matter what I try. Can anyone else get it to work?
@@victorromero8010 I have the bios files but yeah it just won’t load, I keep getting “failed to load content” when trying to play bulk slash. @@victorromero8010 I just got it to boot today after almost giving up. What I learned is the Beetle Saturn core on retroarch for apple tv prefers .chd format for roms (never could get it to work with bin/cue) and was looking for system bios files not in the retroarch system folder but the downloads folder so all I had to do was move the saturn bios files to downloads. Not sure if I did something to make it this way or if it’s this way by default but long story short it’s up and running now.
thats awesome! I never knew you can do this on the apple tv! thanks for sharing. Also, is there a mame core to play arcade roms? I don't see it on the list.
@@perfectdelsol Apple TV and device with web browser both need to be on, and on the same WiFi network. The first address is simply the local address given to your Apple TV by your router. You should be able to access it from another device. The second one is a friendly one the Apple TV has provided to your router that lets other devices access it in a more friendly way. But they both go to the same place. Also do not use the address shown in the UA-cam video. You would need to use the one shown by RetroArch on YOUR Apple TV. These are local addresses and they would not work outside the network.
Typically that means the file you’re trying to load is in a format that no core can read, perhaps a compressed file format such as 7z. You might want to check and if compressed uncompress it and check the core to see what the format the file it will read has to be in (ex. .bin/.cue/.chd etc.) for it to run. There’s a guide on libertos (I think I spelled that right) for each core that tells you what the file formats are that it can read.
Nice to have, but a little pointless until Apple removes the persistent storage restriction. Game files and saves could be deleted at any time without warning.
Thanks so much!❤ really happy with your helpful video🙏🏼 Could make a video on how to create a library of games that show op in the menu without loading each game separately? That would be awesome😃

Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt For sure 👍🏽 😂😂😂

Fix audio stuttering by selecting the video output frequency of 60 Hz in the Apple TV settings, instead of 50.

Go into settings and video the click output and choose vulkan then go to audio and turn on synchronization

Finally a guide for apple tv !
When I enter a game on Apple TV, I get the touch controls on the TV screen, do you know how to clear the controls from the screen?
Settings > User Interface > On Screen Overlay > Hide Overlay When Controller Connected
@@spirit_in_exile thanks
Hi I can’t set up resolution I don’t have this options in settings
Controller is using same button in-game and controlling Apple TV. So when I press B it’s taking me to Apple
Home Screen but I need B in the game.
It would be nice if you can access network drives from the AppleTV to load games in RetroARCH
How do you choose another game without closing the entire application, with the PS4 controller?
You should be able to set a hot key for the quick menu. I showed that in the video. Let me know if that doesn’t work.
