  • On this week's show, Disneyland veterans, David and Ronn dive into several sizzling Disney topics. Is a Reservation Waitlist Coming to Disneyland? Of course, Disney could implement a reservation waitlist but would they? Should they? Would that make the reservation system a better process - or a worse one? The Disneyland Resort is a different animal than the other Disney Parks in that it's a locals Country Club of sorts. Does that fact make a potential reservation waitlist more or less likely? So many questions that are all answered by one simple question: Will a reservation waitlist generate more revenue for The Walt Disney Company or not?
    What is our favorite Easter egg or nod to a former attraction? If we could spend one night in the Parks where would we sleep? What ride would we like to be on when a breakdown happens?
    Plus, we plunge into the Disney zeitgeist and explore the most popular and headline-grabbing Disney chatter including CEO Bob Chapek's 3-year extension, Tiana's Bayou Adventure coming in 2024, the return of the Lagoon, Lightyear makeover of Space Mountain, the waffling timeline in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. All this and the big reveal of our Favorite 5 Queues in the Parks, and more!

    ZERO interest in a waitlist because I have ZERO desire to have a reservation system. Why can't Disney understand that we HATE it?

  • @RaechelSykes

    Nope I want no reservations. It worked for 65 years. Stop this reservation system. A wait list is a joke. People will just squat on that too even if they aren't sure they'll use it. This fixes NOTHING.

    Disneyland worked for about 60 years without any reservation system. For those that like it, I say you probably are out of touch with Walt's vision. He would want everyone welcomed coming to the gates on any day. If it hits capacity, then the basic principle of first come first serve works. Not rocket science.

      I also believe Walt would have come up with a policy to controll guests overrunning the park. Many years they would shut the gates and disappoint people that drove all the way to get there.Now they know with a reservation they have a chance to get in when they get there

      @@ronaldeaton652 Assuming the parks hold 60,000 people, if you're from out of town and you can't be one of the first 60,000 to get in the gate then that's on you. If my family has shelled out thousands of dollars to travel to Anaheim, then you can bet your bottom dollar I'm showing up at the park at rope drop to ensure I'm getting in.

    "Critter Country" is Critter Country as long as it maintains that atmosphere and background area music, two things we know will be removed once it's a part of New Orleans Square. Why David is completely unconcerned with this I'll never know.. he should know better, especially after how hard the return of Nemo's Subs hit him. He might not remember, but I recall him saying he'd prefer if it never returned.
    CC will become the Bayou section of NOS and lose the same color scheme and will now probably sound like the bayou from Pirates of Caribbean. That isn't altogether a bad thing, but it's already a theme Disneyland has in Pirates and they're replacing a thriving and well-themed land that has already proved itself to be a favorite even considering it's tiny size. People haven't quite figured this out.. the Critter Country BGM *is* the Song of the South soundtrack. It will be removed, and Disneyland will be worse off for it.

    • @grammasworld
      @grammasworld 2 роки тому +1

      Splash Mountain is my favorite ride, mostly because my all-time favorite ride is America Sings. I think the bayou theme is going to mean it will be more like Splash Mountain than New Orleans. I think it will be the perfect bridge between NOS and Critter Country. Kind of imagining that Riverboat finale being a Mama Odie feature.

    • @zeroconsequences
      @zeroconsequences 2 роки тому

      @@grammasworld Wholesome! It's my favorite ride, too. You may be right about the theming being a good transition. Though the problem with that is the Splash Mt template is less bayou and more 'bama, right down to the red clay soil and accents (notice a lack of cajun french in the recordings), but Critter Country as a whole is an amalgamation of American ecosystems (Western pine trees, Southern swamps, etc) which is why it makes for a good land all on it's own. It reminds each of us where we came from.
      But my concern lies not just in the background music and aesthetics alone, but in the ride itself. I know the imagineers tasked with this will do a good job, but we've seen from recent projects they're only interested in screen mapping and not practical audioanimatronics. The ride will suffer for it, no matter how clean it looks.

    The reservation system is just another piece of the puzzle that is making Disney parks extremely stressful and frustrating to the point where fights are breaking out regularly. I dunno about everyone else, but not having gone to Disney in about a year, my impression of them has gone down pretty significantly with all these stories of fights and stressed out guests who seem like they're being tortured on their five figure vacations.

  • @lovinlorne

    LOL. They can’t even figure out how to provide dependable WiFi and David thinks they’re going to match pass holders to their spending habits.

  • @grammasworld
    @grammasworld 2 роки тому +7

    No, I don't want a wait list. I can't plan around a wait list. Might be an idea, though, for locals who just want to drop in for awhile in the evenings? As far as reservations, I haven't really had much of a problem since the first of the year. Kind of wonder if the algorithm is more generous with Dream Key holders who don't come very often.
    Colleagues used to encourage me to go work for Disneyland since I loved it so much. My reply was always that any job becomes tedious after a while and I never wanted Disneyland to be tedious. I've been taking first my parents, then my mom monthly since the 50th in 2005. It's become a job and honestly, I wouldn't mind taking a break from it. But those visits are what my mom "lives for" (her words) and since she's 90, I'm not sure how much time she has left. She is prepped and ready to buy us all passes for the time she has left. We just need to know what, when and how.

    If they insist on having a reservation system, how about having the reservations required up until noon, and then after that it's open for everyone until they meet capacity. Then the people without reservations can try their luck in the afternoon.

    The 3 Strike system is an issue for people with health issues that change from day to day. They don’t always know when they will experience a flare up, so they have a reservation but that day arrives and they aren’t able to go. I’ve been dealing with a herniated disc and I hit 2 missed days within 2 months because pain was especially bad those days. I understand the need for penalty rules but there needs to be an amendment for those who need it. I spoke with a cast member after my 2nd miss and explained it was for medical reasons out of my control and there was nothing they could do. That’s not good.

    Unpopular opinion but I think they should keep the reservations & suspend all passes for a minimum of 2yrs till they figure out what to do with Magic bands/locals crowd control/ reservations. Disneyland being the smaller park out of all I feel has the most problems because I believe it's one of the most visited & the local demand is out of control. I am a local, I love Disneyland & have been an annual passholder but the park to me isn't enjoyable when it's at capacity, and the lines are long. Yes I miss the spontaneous feeling of being able to show up whenever and go into the park, reservations can be frustrating but with a bit of patience and better planning it ain't so bad. Disneyland didn't always have passes and while I enjoyed having one the many years that I did I just think with how demand goes it's not something that works for the park anymore. Some will argue that without the passes Disney as a company will lose set money but I beg to differ. Let's be honest (& I'm not singling out vloggers) but those who frequent the park & that own these passes how often do they purchase souvenirs, food, merch on a single visit every time to the park vs those who go for single day visit? In my opinion I feel that some pass holders come across entitled & whiny like the park owes them something and I think that they forget that things are constantly going to change & what once worked doesn't mean it's for the long run. We have some of the best perks as locals and for the same reason why we love the park we should adapt to it's changes. No matter what it's not going to deter people and locals from visiting the park but I think it will manage the crowds a bit better, let's be real no matter the outcome Disney isn't hurting or going broke anytime soon. I stopped being an AP holder a few years ago and the company is still thriving, I get to go less often than I'd like but when I do get the chance to go back it hits so different and I feel like my expectations and experience is more pleasant.

    Did u ever consider maybe they say 50000 and that would account if they projected 5% call off CM. If call off was less they could take more. If call off was more they know it’s a hard cutoff. If the sick day policy is something they’re tweaking because it’s an issue I am inclined to think it’s still not enough workers. In Myrtle beach we are in a severe shortage of workers. Restaurants and hotels are losing money because we don’t have bussers runners servers housekeeping. People don’t want to work. So tables aren’t being seated and rooms not sold due to staff issues.

    Sometimes I think you may give Disney a little too much credit/ or shall we say, confidence in the technology that they use for guest facing operations. They are very technologically behind and continue to choose poor systems. They may know what they’re doing in the animation sector(mostly with the prodding of Pixar), but their internal and external park side technology is severely outdated. So I’m not so sure they have the capability to see your spending habits linked to your account. They may ask in a survey, and I’m sure someone in a company outside of Disney is recording the data and crunching numbers somewhere, but I can almost guarantee you that it’s not happening the way you think it is. They like you to THINK that they’re on that level, but after 17 years working there, I can tell you they’re not that sophisticated. I think it’s part of the problem with the reservation system on a whole- I think it’s probably on par with the rest of how things work there, and probably way less sophisticated than you’d imagine.

      Yeah but you’ll get hit with a no show if you don’t go through the turnstile or cancel same day. I was on an Amtrak train going down to Anaheim, but in a whack turn of events, my connecting train was cancelled. I had to rebook on the next (overpacked) train and that was four hours later. I had reserved at CA that day and instead of showing up at 2pm, I didn’t get to CA until 7:30. Usually that park closes at 10pm but there was some kind of special event that made the park close at 8. I had to scramble to reach the turnstile just to go through it for like 5 minutes. People don’t always predict what’s going to happen to cause them to miss their reservation.

    We actually had Rise break down on our first time through. It wasn't a huge deal because we were already at the escape pod scene, so like 90% done anyway - the multi experience passes we got afterwards helped ease the pain too (also, this was pre-LL, so the only way to line hop Rise was with an MEP, which is how we used ours). As for the break down experience: it's a trip that the CM's still weren't allowed to drop character - the "First Order" squad came in and locked down the ride vehicle, and told us to wait for "Resistance Personnel." Sure enough, those CM's came by a few minutes later and actually released the seat belts and escorted us out. I don't know if it would have felt different getting stuck elsewhere in the ride, but for us it was actually kind of fun. I mean, we could've been trapped upside down on a roller coaster or up in a gondola somewhere - we were just sitting in a fairly comfortable ride car, inside a building with AC, waiting to be rescued by pretend Star Wars people.

    Before the bridge in front of pirates a major section of the que went down the east side of the pirate's building in an alleyway between the building and the treehouse ---it 'swallowed' so many guests the que never extended into NO Square.
    Always thought the SW 'cruiseship hotel' would come to Disneyland.....don't think so now > they'll bring out all the characters for walk-around meet-n-greets at GE disneyland, but keep them seperate. They florida 'cruiseship' will have the interactive experiences with the legacy characters for that high price.
    Ft Wilderness on the island (columbia captain's quarters would be great too...) for overnight. Would love to see what the underground, submarine show building looks like with the lights on.

    FreshBaked, David and Ronn, Splash Mtn. story and ride. Brer Fox tries to capture Brer Rabbit does so gets so mad he throws the rabbit and us into the briar patch. Whats wrong with that? When will Brer Fox and Brer Bear be allowed to walk the streets of N.O. Square again? Just like the old day's. The sharemarket these day's only follows Disney+ and subscriptions they don't care what the parks do. Bob Chapek is badly in need of a fan club. With a newsletter and a button + Bob Merch. David you could be President of the club and Ronn could be Treasurer. Chapek does'nt have to build a new park but builds an "iconic" new attraction in each of the " Magic Kingdom's" around the world. I.E. a Pirates or Haunted Mansion level of a ride. Now that would be a legacy. Cheers, Chris Perry.

    They could still add a new Tron attraction without it necessarily being a clone of what exists in other parks. As you said, there's just no room. But that doesn't mean they couldn't imagine some other E-ticket attraction using the Tron IP.

    What would you think if Disney would offer a "seasonal pass" ? I wonder if that option would work for crowd control and scheduling? Something like a block out dates thing, only in reverse.

    I just checked to make a reservation for my Dream Key and I noticed that a bunch of days that were blocked off are now available in August. Only the Last Four or Five Days we're not open to me and the Second of September. My Magic Key🗝️ will expire on the Third of September.

    If Tron comes to Disneyland it will be Mini-Tron, like we have Mini-Space Mountain. It can be redesigned to not overtake Autopia.

    Don't they have room on the left side of Pirates? Between Pirates and the tree house there was a que that went all the way back and could hold a few hundred people.

    Bob Chapek wasn't responsible for Genie-plus, Bob Iger was.
    Genie-Plus (artificial intelligence) was 5 years in the making and approved for development in the Bob Iger administration. It just happened to roll out into execution in the Chapek administration. So he gets the credit or blame from everyone on the outside looking in. Everyone on the inside understands its the capstone of the Iger Legacy.

    No, we don't want a waitlist. Reservations and annual passes don't mix. It was a stupid idea. I'm paying 3000 freakin' dollars (for two) in guaranteed revenue to Disney, and I should be getting something extra for showing my commitment to the magic. Instead, Disney has demonstrated that they don't value my commitment and that all they care about is themselves

    1. Would you Favor Chapek more if he made statue's (like Walt's with Mickey in hub) of past CEO's on top of old entry of PeopleMover ..."Future CEO's in TL!"... 2. I agree NO I.P. is TL "Back to Future" Doc would say your future is not written so its what you make it... the theme of TL the movie knowing future is depressing.... 3. Put Tron in DCA to replace Incr. Coaster! 4. Is there a Clock In G. Edge, to know what day and time it is? 5. Have not seen "Light Year" yet but will look for a tram or people mover in the movie on Disney Plus!

    Capacity enter and exit each entrance at the turnstiles there’s a counter look at the counter number add them up and x 2.5 if before 11am
    I need credit for this it will give you a close estimate of people in the park

    I will be grugging to get on a waiting list. There are things that I don't use my Disneyland App to purchase like popcorn and pretzels. I tried to buy Genie+ for the first time and I couldn't because they had an old credit card for Genie+ and yet I could purchase food through the App using my current credit card.

    I am a huge fan of the FreshBaked channel and Podcast, but I don’t share the same animosity towards the reservation system because I am not local to Disneyland and have always planned my trips months in advance.
    The Enchant Key has actually fit my use case perfectly, and the reservation system has had no negative impact to my experience as a guest. If anything, the subconscious idea that the reservation system helps limit crowds from being too full is a benefit as we are still in the middle of a pandemic. I definitely prefer visiting the parks when it’s not crowded and wait times are always pleasantly short.
    I understand that I may be in the minority since there are so many locals that the Magic Key system does NOT benefit. But I wanted to share a perspective from a happy guest that Disney is providing a great experience for.

      We’re local. The reservation system hasn’t been a problem at all. But then again we have always planned out our trips. I can count on one hand how many “spontaneous” trips we’ve made in the last 27+ years of being a pass holder. We just don’t operate that way.

      I’m nearby myself with a Dream key. I didn’t have to fret about reservations because I could always try again next weekend.

    • @kelvinchu6792

      @lovinlorne @mindyschocolate Thanks for sharing your experiences, as locals. I imagined that APs that previously enjoyed being able to hop into the parks after work/school would find the reservation system and Key program frustrating. David’s commentary really highlights this. But the last few times I’ve gone since the reservation system was in place, I haven’t experienced the “afternoon swell” of people flooding the parks towards the end of the day, and it’s super super refreshing.
      I don’t get to go as often as I like, so when I do, it’s great when the lines aren’t too long and the crowds aren’t super crazy.

    If they’re not gonna allow renewals (or aren’t ready to make a decision about how they’re handling it in time for the earliest expirations to come up), can we just keep our passes on a month to month at the same rate we’re already paying (+$15 for what would be the down-payment portion)
    I don’t know about anyone else, but I would 100% be fine with that until what ever they decide to do if it means I get to keep going. Would be an absolute nightmare to only be able to book 30 days at a time following each monthly payment, but it’d be better than nothing.
