      They’re feed in Dutch braids. That’s absolutely an appropriate braid type for her hair. Braiding tight shouldn’t pull at your scalp. No matter what your hair type, if the style is so tight it pulls at the scalp it will damage your hair. If you do it too often you’ll get tension alopecia. It’s not just your edges that get ripped out from abuse.

    • @ariatysonbey6386
      @ariatysonbey6386 Рік тому +8

      @@krob7955 maybe that’s the case for your hair not ours. Turns out there’s the same braid that goes by different names in difference cultures bc it’s not just Dutch. For her hair to stay for an extended period of time it needs to be tight. Especially if extra hair is added. If she has alopecia her mother should have stopped this. If she didn’t want them SOMEONE would have stopped it. No pulled out a phone and recorded. Ig when this happened to me I was abused too even tho I asked for it and continued to do so lol

    • @krob7955
      @krob7955 Рік тому +4

      @@ariatysonbey6386 I never said Dutch braid was the only name for the style. It’s the name with readily accessible examples of straight Caucasian hair in that style. I also never said it was abuse. I said too much tension can *cause* tension alopecia. That’s hair loss caused by chronic tension (also known as traction) on the hair and scalp. It can even result in scarring. It’s particularly common among black women who repeatedly style their hair in too tight braids, especially if the partings are kept the same. Whites girls often develop it from wearing too tight ponytails all the time which causes their hairline to recede. I don’t know if you didn’t bother to read the original comment in its entirety or if you there’s a reading comprehension issue.

    I think everyone is just surprised seeing it from the outside as opposed to being in the chair yourself. I lowkey feel like people are saying that this woman is intentionally hurting the girl because it’s a small white girl, and America is hypersensitive to white girls/women in pain and/or distress.
    Black girls go through this all the time but you don’t call the stylist bullies. Little black girls have cried from burning relaxers, but no one says anything because they’re expected to suck it up. People are more aware now, but it’s still not too uncommon to find stylist with old practices.
    The braider isn’t trying to hurt or bully the girl - you do realize that white people have a looser hair texture so their hair is not as likely to stay in shapes ie braided styles. This seems like a typical African hair braider (you can even see her braiding in blonde extension hair to make the braids thicker). They always braid super tight even on black hair because they believe that the tighter you braid - the longer it will last. This young lady seems to have very straight hair super prone to slippage. She’s trying to braid tight to make the style last longer. Don’t worry too much for the girl’s scalp, because of her hair texture the braids won’t stay feeling tight like it does with our hair. It’ll loosen up in a few hours and will probably completely unravel in 2 weeks tops if she even leaves it in that long because straighter textures have to wash their hair more frequently due to oiliness.

      @@louisacapell it looks like she’s talking to someone as she’s braiding. A client being uncomfortable, doesn’t mean that you are also uncomfortable. In addition, if your stylist is freaking out you’re not going to feel reassured. She’s probably smiling at the parents in reassurance.
      Technically neither of us know exactly the situation in the video. But the fact that you all immediately reached the conclusion that she’s intentionally hurting her when you probably know next to nothing about Afro-hair braiding is astounding.
      The likelihood that she’s intentionally hurting is low. As I said, the woman looks African, and in Africa they braid very tight with the assumption that the tighter you braid, the longer it last. Also generally Africans have nothing against white people.
