This is literally the difference between appreciation and appropriation!!! A perfect example! Love this.
Exactly!
yassss!!! Glory (aka ‘Rice’) is literally the sweetest and so genuine!
I felt so bad when she wanted to get them out as fast as she could because *she felt people would hate on her* for “appropriating our culture” and I was upset because I know she wasn’t Appropriating but Appreciating!! ♡
It sucks how many people dont know the *actual fine line* between Appropriation and Appreciation 😤
Even Matt was worried for her 😢 that people would think “Why did he allow her to do this” and etc.
I’m glad to see they got love instead of hate because I love them and they are amazing people that never mean any harm ♡
@@PrincesaLunez I'm sorry for being stupid but can you tell me what the defining moment from this shows exactly the difference between appropriation and appreciation
Lindsay Scribner ok what’s the difference? So y’all won’t attack if they share how they got it done
But would come for them if they randomly update their sns with dreads ?
@@skypink4404 exactly. i say this to my mother all of the time. what do expect people to do? walk around with a certificate signed by a credible black hair stylist when they get black styles? people assuming the worst is the problem that they should be addressing. people dont need to make a documentary for you to verify how they view black culture. its so weird and almost embarrassing the stuff we put people through that genuinely wanna like what we create.
As a black woman with a half Vietnamese teen, I really appreciate seeing this.

@@glorygirl.7373 This isn't appropriating... do you even know what that means? Tf?
I'm black and see no issue with non-black people wearing braids. As long as they aren't using it to mock us or anything of that sort then it's fine. It would be different if a non-native American person dressed up as a native American for Halloween or something of that sort because that's mocking the culture, not appreciating it.
culture appropriation is culture appropriation. her getting these braids are culture appropriation. youre dumb asf.
@@glorygirl.7373 do you not know the definition of cultural application cause i can copy paste it for those that are too slow to do their research
@@glorygirl.7373 this isn’t cultural appropriation. she knows where this originated and she respects black culture. it will also help her with her children in the future. learning about their culture and she isn’t mocking black people.
it makes no sense, why getting all this for on making braces and then start mocking it? like you're using it on your own hair-
Exactly what you said Is what my fiancé says too I was nervous to ask him if he thinks I should wear cornrows and he said as long as it doesn’t mock us then I don’t care I think you’ll look beautiful in them. If people complain that just shows their character. And I said yeah I just don’t want to upset anyone I always feel nervous to ask lol but I love and really appreciate the styles their so dreamy and gorgeous 😍😍
before anyone comments about cultural appropriation, as a black woman I would like to say that these braids look wonderful on her and that she’s appreciating our culture and loving it too
Lolop Callulu yessss! She was so happy with her mans sister and how she looked, it made me feel happy.
Yo I'm a black woman too and I Totally agree!
this is appreciation not appropriation. Is she mocking it? Profiting off of it? did she INTENTIONALLY change the texture of her natural hair to get this hairstyle (aka: these aren't cornrow twists but regular braids!), is she RACIST in secret but loves black culture and things OPENLY?, has she made fun of this hairstyle before in the past but now that its cool she is wearing it? - if you can say no to all of the above it isn't appropriation! And thats what people get confused about!
People really don’t know what cultural appropriation is. And i agree, they looked great^^
Not trying to be funny but I find that black women who do not care about their culture being taken away from them especially with the hair are the same black women who wear weave, blond hair to try and fit into a culture that do not belong to them and therefore cannot say anything
“Can you get my hoops?” I felt that on a spiritual level after every style 😭 she’s too cute

Hello 👋 nice comment ❤️
How are you doing??
Hello 👋 how are you doing today?
Honey we good… lol. We’re used to the time consuming hairstyles.
The comments are so confusing. I agree that there's a difference between cultural appropriation and appreciation and people in the comments say that as long as you appreciate black people and their culture it's fine. But how will you know the difference when you see someone on the street? It's not like a white girl wearing cornrows will wear a shirt that says I'm wearing this because I think it's beautiful and because I appreciate the culture and I am interested in it. Even the people who are appreciating black culture are being attacked because you can't tell by looking at someone.
I kinda assume that they are appreciating black culture and not wearing the braids as an aesthetic. But then again... I dunno I just get confused ugh I don't know 😕
I wanna believe its true
Maybe it doesn't matter and hairstyles can be worn by anyone who wants to wear them 🤔
@@tonystream930 it’s not just a hairstyle
@@tonystream930 are you black? if not please stay out of it because obviously it's so much more than that. people want to indulge in black cultures yet be racist and never stick up for black people. it's not fair for us to go through things like this. (not saying the person who made the video had bad intentions) but nonetheless it's not just a hairstyle. black people go through racism just for having braids like that, yet when non-black ppl wear it, they're praised for it.
sister can *BRAID* i need to set me up an appointment.🤣
Yea she killed that
Is it bad that kind of wanna try that hairstyle once for fun? I love braids and it looks so pretty, but I see a lot of times people saying only black people should wear it and that it could be quite offensive if you're not black but have that hairstyle >.> (I'm Asian btw)

Yasss!
Y'all can't lie, she look good in those braids.
Well some ppl think different in ur opinion
Gabby Gilsilvetti That’s because some people have some serious issues. It’s not appropriation if the people genuinely like it and don’t act ghetto about it.
I see no lie here
I’m sorry it was nice if her doing that but no❤️
Lin’s Show ok, you don’t have to like them, but don’t hate.
slice mom is so sweet and rice's parents is really open minded.. both sides parent were very supportive
I’m not mad, this isn’t cultural appropriation this is cultural appreciation and I love em 😍 .
See this, I’m not mad at. This isn’t cultural appropriation. It’s cultural appreciation and they’re giving credit to the black community. It’s not hard to do this. The braids look good on her & this experience was dope.
I think the inherent flaw in this viewpoint is that if Rice was not in a relationship with a black man and she decided to get braids, no matter what the context, everyone would have torn her down for “cultural appropriation.” Even if she went to a black hairstylist to get braided, y’all still would’ve been yelling cultural appropriation.
I think it’s dangerous to set the precedent that being in a relationship with someone of the culture you want to experience is the only acceptable way to appreciate the culture but that’s exactly what all these positive comments of “yas cultural appreciation” are saying.
J. Bae Nowhere in my comment did I mention her relationship. All I said was when you credit the black community for our culture and express your love for it, it is cultural appreciation. You don’t have to date a black man for that.
J. Bae When you say “y’all...” Who are you referring to? The black community? I really hope you’re not because that’ll be ignorant. A white woman or any other race could have braids in, credit the black community and we’d still be hyping them up. Just because you’re referring to the black community doesn’t mean you have to use AAVE. Especially when you’re speaking in such an ignorant manner.
Bontle the thing that confuses me is that there’s nothing Glory did that blatantly expresses her giving credit to the black community for these braids. She didn’t stop the video and say “and before I get this done, I just wanna stop and say that I’m giving credit to the black community.” The only thing that happened was that her bf took her to his sister and she got her hair braided and everyone thought it looked awesome. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the video and I quite enjoy it but it’s unsubstantiated to say that there were overt gestures of crediting the black community when she got this done which is what makes it appreciation. The only reason anyone gets that sense is because of Slice taking her to get it done which is why I mention how relevant her relationship with him is in the acceptance people are showing her.
If she was not in this relationship and she went to a black hairstylist and requested braids and said and acted exactly as she did in the video, people would be crying cultural appropriation.
J. Bae last but not least, if you are not black or can NEVER tell black people how to react to their struggles and their culture. Cultural appropriation is deeper than just hairstyles. There’s meaning behind It, pain & suffering behind it. How dare you even reply to my comment writing a whole paragraph which doesn’t even refer to anything I wrote? In fact you wasted your time even typing that. What’s so dangerous about that anyway?
This is the content that needs to be in the media...THIS content!!! Where they appreciate each others cultures

edit: "cultural appropriation" it isn't a way to tell people to stop what they're doing, it is a way to let others know how to embrace and understand each other. i understand not everyone is offended by this or believes cultural appropriation should even exist but i think it's only because the two words are misunderstood. i believe that we can all learn something new about each other. whether that be a hairstyle or a clothing item that is a part of who we are and that has shaped our identity. all love.
be a little more open-minded and aware of others.
thank u for all the likes. ♥️
i am from south africa and don't get ya'll americans with this culture appropriation thing, here in africa we don't mind anyone of any race doing our stuff, but ya'll seem to have a weird problem that i don't even get..like we also do their stuff..whats the double standard for?
Alexis N I’m not from the US but I’m a African who is born and living in Sweden. The reason behind cultural appropriation is that black women in the us get told that they are ghetto, ugly, racist things and fired over having cornrows and other braids, but when white women have those hairstyles it’s suddenly okey and beautiful. That’s why black people in the us get mad because it’s apparently ugly when they were the hairstyles, but when a white person wears them it’s pretty and okey.
Im a black woman living in america. I wear braids and noone says shit to me.... I dont know where in the US where they get fired for having natural hair or braids get called ugly but I've never come across it. So idk.
@@Cooking_and_Lifestyle. because the situation of us black American strayed us away from our history and culture and that is a piece of it know I have no problem with them wearing a hairstyle but they need to appreciate it and not act like Columbus and wearing something once and then having the nerve to claim it as their own and no disrespect some africans from Africa dont like their own hair and suspend kids for wearing it when they have that hair themselves

The reason why cultural appropriation is a problem in America is because when people from different cultures wear things from their cultures ( such as braids and clothing from Asian cultures ) they are unprofessional, weird, and we experience a lot of ignorance from white people. But when white people wear the same things it is cool and fun and trendy. In other countries wearing braids may not be that big of a deal because black people don’t get discriminated because of it. This video IS NOT upsetting as a black women because she is being respectful and they explain that they know the problem with non black people wearing braids. They also mentioned how their whole channel is about getting to know each other’s cultures. This video is not problematic but really wholesome as slice is showing rice what black women have to do because of their natural hair. ❤️❤️

Am shocked too, here anyone can do what they want with there hair, and i dont see any problem with that
@@poisson6714 Yeah. Here in America many black hairstyles were/are considered ghetto, rachet, and unprofessional. Until a non-black person makes it "fashionable" and suddenly it's alright to wear. We were kicked out of schools for certain hairstyles and were ultimately force to straighten our hair (results in damaging our natural hair) for the white people. So there's a lot of history behind why we act this way. There were also many instances where non-blacks would steal out hairstyles and claim it as their own and rename it. I wish it was never this way. I personally don't have a problem with people wearing our hairstyles ONLY if they truly know the history behind it and its origins.
Sorry for this long reply 😭

I love that you two are experiencing each others culture so respectfully and having fun with it too. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us! Those braids look amazing on you!
Yeah, I wish I could meet someone who will be happy with me as they are now 🥺
Hello beautiful, hope you're doing great??
I am black, I got say it looks really good on her she should keep doing it‼️ it’s very pretty I think it suits her very well. I’m glad that she’s willing to learn our culture.
I don’t blame her for apologizing so much, the comments now a days will attack you...
Comments are ruthless
Facts tho
@Cyanna Miranda stfu
@Ratikant Sharma I think what he/she mean is that glory doesn't even need to apologize, I could be wrong tho.
Ratikant Sharma girl bye we have our own hair
Loved this! When I was in high school my best friend was Latina and she did my hair in tiny cornrows, it was slightly painful I totally agree, but it was also so friggin cute as well, so I feel your pain having it done for the first time, but it really does look mad cute! Loved this video so much! Thank you so much for sharing, I enjoyed it so much, and it totally reminded me of my teenage years lol, you guys have great content, and I really look forward to watching your videos 😊❤😊❤
She looks good with cornrows!!!!! Should be a style she wears often. Personally I think that as different cultures we can try out different things from each other. We are all brothers and sisters in Gods eyes. Personally I'm African American and I love Indian culture. There jewelry and clothes are beautiful. Lets experiment but at the same time giving props to the cultures who came up with it.
YOU HONESTLY LOOK SO CUTE GLORY 😍😍❤❤
She did my hair! I think it was in 2k17 but she straighten my hair, and i got to facetime Slice!
Edit: Omg thx for 700+ likes!!
For what tho!?!😘😘😘

@@roxewill1202 Thanks🤗🤗
PUGICORN 4L you welcome💕
IT LOOKS SO GOOD!!!
You can tell she loves and appreciates our culture and respects us she can wear them period
I love this. As a black young women I'm glad to see someone else enjoying black culture and apperiacting it. I don't see this as someone who's not black and not educated in the culture trying to make it their own. I kinda understand why he explains himself through out the video. But I also would love to see other cultures not b upset when someone appreciates our culture and doesnt take it the wrong way.
@CleverCookieRBLX Oh please, anything "appropriating culture" is automatically slammed.
Ratikant Sharma LMAO I’M DEAD 😂😂😭
I gave my friend braids she's white I'm white (it wasn't to mock or anything i just like braiding hair) any way she really just looked like a white version of the karate kid and she cried while I did it soo...
i play this dressing up online game, and the creator started making the game more diverse adding different culture beauty’s, and people were going crazy and attacking anyone who wore the cornrows that werent poc. it was gross, because theyd literally attack children who have no idea
@CleverCookieRBLX she can do what ever she wants, its her hair , all women I know at some point style their hair out side of their cultural back ground
I think she suited it. A lot of Asian girls and guys get this sort of style done so it’s nothing surprising and I don’t know why people are hating. She looks good ✌🏼🙂
Not much hate here
It's because Black women have worn the same styles and get called gheto in job interviews (sometimes just minding their business walking down the street) but then other races started doing it, it was cute. That's why people have a tendency to hate. I'm just explaining why I think rice looks pretty like she always does.
Sorry last thing. What I just said is why slice made the joke about black Twitter 😂😂😂
Not to generalize but for anyone who's into Kpop, you'll notice how many groups use pieces here and there and are influenced a bit by hip hop culture. I've always thought though that it was quite unfortunate and rather ignorant though that black culture is acceptable to other cultures... if it is for entertainment purposes, but then you still hear stories of black tourists, or people living abroad in Asian countries who are looked at funny and in some cases face people being warry of them because of their skin color. Untill all parts of black culture is accepted in those countries I really believe they should just leave those influences alone
@@hafi2047being black in Asia sounds like a nightmare despite many of us wanting to work, travel or live there. We won't get the same respect. My brother was stationed in Korea 3 years ago. He explored off base at times but never felt too comfortable because Koreans always stared hard. Like not side eye but like you were a theme park attraction.
Like Kpop is so weird all this obvious black influence they are going for and I bet if you put them in the room with the average black person not celebrity oriented they'd be dead silent on the other side of the room.
Omg she looks so gorgeous, I love this hairstyle on her!😍
I love it !! Supper cute. Mat sister did amazing job. 💖💖💖💖💖
My mom is Asian but she would always braid my hair for school because it was so long and thick and braids were just easier. And I swear my mom did that stuff so tight, the skin on my head is calloused and I don't feel pain in there anymore lmao
Yeah your scalp got numb, I know the feeling :'-D
Same lmao
😂😂😂😂😂
samEee
Same but somehow I always come home without my braids so she decided to cut my hair 😂
As a mixed race person mixed from two very different cultures I love the way you guys are presenting interracial relationships. Also the SKILL required for braiding I’m shook every time.
Same. Racially mixed(German and African American). Experiancing different cultures is amazing now that I'm older and can appreciate it. As a kid I was made to really ashamed of it.
Nomi Piper I feel that, I’m mixed race as well (African American and Cambodian) and I was always told I’m not Asian enough that I’m too dark or I’m too Asian to be black so I didn’t know what to do with myself, but now that I’m older I learned to appreciate what I learned from those experiences so now I’m just Me :)
i am Norwegian and Nigerian!!!
Nomi Piper being shamed for your heritage sucks and it takes a lot of courage to be unapologetic and proud of your cultures. ❤️
I just love your hair!! Slice's sister did an excellent job on your hair!!!😍 You guys are are so cute and adorable together, So are your parents!!!! 🤗🥰
I like the chemistry between the two of you! Those cornrows look really good on Rice
As an Asian American who had no idea about what the process of getting cornrows is like, this was really informative and so entertaining! It's nice to see more of the families as well :D
she officially one of us. She fell asleep under the dryer bruh. EVERYBODY go to sleep under the dryer

LOVED IT!! THE BEST OF EVERYTHING TO YOU BOTH!!
KEEP UP THE LEARNING & LOVING❣❣
My black friend who I dormed with in college braided my hair for the first day of school because she really wanted to. Some people made fun of my hair that week, asking if I wanted to be a gangster. I remember being really upset because I thought my braids were beautiful and was thankful for the effort and time my friend had worked on them for me. Halfway into the school year, I asked some of the new friends I had made in my classes what did they think of me when they first saw me. They said they thought I was a mean girl because of my braids.... That I, a petite, barely 5 ft Asian girl who is too shy to raise her hand in class - was a mean girl just because my hair was styled into braids.
Edit: To clarify, I'm Filipina, but I've weeded out many racists in my life with my diverse look. And yes, my friend braided my hair for free, which is another reason why I was super grateful because those braids don't happen in a few minutes! She wanted to do our 3rd roommate's hair too but the other girl (a Latina - yes, we were a very diverse dorm and practically a family!) didn't think she would look good because she'd never done it before. And I fell in love with the look despite what people said about it. So, for the rest of the year, my friend would braid my hair for free whenever I requested it (even if she was in the middle of watching her Netflix 😂).
maybe because you were appropriating a culture that wasn't yours but ok
Maryama Hussein that’s not cultural appropriation lmaoooo get your head out of your ass
Maryama Hussein That is not cultural appropriation but ok..
Naomi Just ignore them people, they are going nowhere with that attitude.
