When they can see a rule tucked in a corner like that and go "No, that's immutable." 39:20: For the comment-reading Playfriends out there: The problem is that test is directional in this game. "Wall Is Stop" ≠ "Stop Is Wall". If the text was in the same direction, the wall would technically be both Stop and Wall...though being Stop makes it awfully hard to Push, so it wouldn't actually help. But the ability of one noun to be multiple verbs is critical to both future puzzles _and_ one they've already completed. 46:15: For those who missed it, "Wait" came in as a function earlier. Specifically, when Keke Is Move. "Wait" does nothing unless something other than You is doing something. 56:30: *IMPORTANT:* That is exactly what the "extra" levels are. Don't feel the need to complete them if you're not sure how.
To clarify: Something can be Stop and Push at the same time. Push just means that whatever is You can move it when you move into it, except when it collides with Stop or the edge of the screen. Then You cannot move any further. Stop means that NOTHING can move to overlap it, regardless of whether the object is You or not. If an object is both Push and Stop, it's functionally just Push. You can test that out on the first level by making Wall both Push and Stop.
@@Ocsttiac Things that are Move can also push things that are Push. (I don't remember exactly how Push interacts with, say, Fall; I'm pretty sure Push makes Stop irrelevant in basically all edge cases, though.)
39:43 doesn’t it also have the problem of technically saying “push is wall” and block-bound words can’t do that grammatically 59:00 now I want fan art of Dan and Carrie cosplaying doctor loboto
I've seen a few people play this but never to completion and I've always seen the same solution to puzzle 05 (they make LAVA is PUSH) and this was the first time I've seen that solution. I love how versatile this game is.
Yup, should have just seen this coming. They're going to find all the solutions I never saw... These lovely people are just built different and I love it.
I still can't make sense of everything that I saw when I watched Punchy's speedrun of this game for GDQ. Not only was he going so fast, but the solutions for the puzzles on the true ending path are just... nuts of a 4th-wall breaking variety.
I LITERALLY WAS GONNA TWEET AT Y'ALL SUGGESTING THIS GAME and then thought, "No, they've got full plates, just enjoy what they do" and now YOU'RE DOING IT :D A few non-spoiler tips: 1) Order of words matters. "Baba is You" works; "You is Baba" does not. Any word in a box cannot go first in the sentence. 2) That bonus level you bounced off of is indeed a brain-bender. It took my family and I forever to work it out. The bonus levels tend to skew pretty challenging. 3) If you find yourself thinking in circles, it is absolutely fine (and often helpful) to walk away for a bit and work on something else. You can already see how the world opens up to more levels than you have linearly progressed to--take advantage of that to get a mental palate cleanser before returning to the hard level to try again.
I've never seen any two person team do puzzles in such a synergestic way. Usually the team is as smart as the smarter person in the team, but you were actually blazing through these much faster than either probably could alone. I know this can be read as being bad, but genuinely, being able to do more together than alone, that's a rare and magical thing, not something that should be taken for granted.
Lv2. I appreciate all your attempts to experiment. Some LPers I've have to stop watching because when they play around like that, they don't seem to be LEARNING anything from it, but it feels like you're actually picking up the grammar of the game, which will help you on later levels. And I love that this is a duo play. :3 I love multiperson singleplayer LPs in general because dialogue is usually more fun, it brings a new perspective in, and also it lets one person run commentary when the other person has to go quiet to focus. I've seen other LPers sacrifice their gameplay for the sake of keeping a running commentary going because the thought of just going quiet for 40 second is anathema. But having a second person there frees you from the dilemma entirely. :p But the second perspective is extra useful in a puzzle game like this, where she can see or figure out things you would struggle with, and vice versa. Lv5. I knew of two solutions for that level and she found a third one. :p Lv7. Congrats! I've seen people absolutely STRUGGLE with the concept that you can use the same IS in both directions and get two clauses in a cross like that. Extra 1. This is exactly the kind of collaboration it's really lovely to see on puzzles. :3 Extra 2. "I'm sure this is so obvious to anyone who's already solved it." I have... no memory of how I solved that one. I vaguely remember walking the "ROCK IS YOU" and "BABA IS YOU" down together? But I don't recall if that actually was the solution or just one of my failed attempts. I don't recall if solved this one at all... Your cooperation trying to figure these out is so good. :3 I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this! ...I should maybe go and actually complete my own game before you reach the part I got stuck at.
My thought for level lake extra 1 was to make it “rock is you” and “baba is push”, push baba into the flag, push “crab” and “flag” into place and then make it “baba is you” once more for the win.
Important (spoiler free) note for this game. Commands can only read top to bottom or left to right. Commands also require a noun to begin the phrase. The inverted text (ex. YOU, PUSH, STOP) cannot start a command.
JOCHEM IS SURPRISE! (thanks Hamster xD) I did not expect this game to ever be featured on this channel, but I absolutely do not mind 😄 Good luck in the later stages!
9:36 clever solution! Normally, you'd do "Lava is push" and push it out of the way, but this one works too! Because the lava is both hot and melt, so it melts itself. Also, you two are cute!
Couldn't resist after seeing it - bought the game to play alongside. It's so quirky and absurd and clever and charming, though the potential for ridiculous complexity at later levels is definitely intimidating. 52:29 At this very moment, you're so very close to solving it. Also, you've definitely already encountered all of the tools needed. Maybe revisit some older puzzles to refresh? Good luck!
You should not let this game scare you. Just take it slowly and jump between levels regularly to not feel bad when you get stumped (and to let your subconscious work on the solution to a previous puzzle).
I love that you're playing this! One way of thinking that might help with some of the trickier puzzles like the last one here is: Words are always Push. Push only pushes things that are also Push (or You) Also, basic grammar: vertical sentences totally work, but they have to be Top to Down (or Left to Right). Solid block words are verbs, Regular are nouns. Noun is Noun works. Noun is Verb works. But Verb is Noun doesn't work. Also, a trick that often comes in handy is a word can be part of two sentences by mixing horizontal and vertical. You've done this a few times but it's an important "rule" to keep in mind. The wait button is useful for puzzles that have "Move" verbs. Things that Move move once per game tick, which happens when you move or when you press Wait. You saw Kiki is Move once already.
That terrible moment where they're so close to the answer and it suddenly clicks for me, and then it says 10 minutes later and they're off on completely the wrong track again. And I'm just sitting here like "Nooooooo, take my epiphany! Pull it out of my brain!"
That little synth silence at the end of the 'Water is Sink' music track is the sound of the mind trying to comprehend the difficulty spike in the 'Lake' section
You got so close to solving the extra 2 level 😭 (it took me over half an hour I think, but now knowing the solution and seeing you almost get it.. it's hard :D)
22:30 The way I solved that was I pushed a Keke past the skulls and then made "Keke is You" and won that way. I love how this game has so many different possible solutions. An important tip about "Defeat" is that it works the same as "Win" in that it only interacts with whatever is "You". If something that isn't "You" touches something that is "Defeat", nothing happens. Another tip: Statements always have to read gramatically correct from left to right or top to bottom. Saying "Push is Wall" or a variation of that will never work. Things can also be two verbs at once like "Stop" and "Push". It makes it so that a wall is stop, but that doesn't matter because you can just push the wall. Tip 3: Statements will also only ever read in a straight line. The configuration you had for "Baba is Wall is Stop" where it was a right angle would only be interpreted as "Baba is Wall" and "Wall is Stop". Though actually even if it had been lined up straight, it'd still figure those are two separate statements.
Wow, you are some of the quickest people I've seen do these early levels! Very methodical and fast to figure out what words mean. Especially impressed by how fast you did icy waters!
I think I got about 2/3 through the game before I Is Not Brain. Very best of luck, and try everything once. A piece of paper to keep track of what you have and haven't tried may be helpful, if you can find an easy way to quickly describe the different tactics you take.
So glad you guys are playing this! I had such a good time with it. Some of the puzzles get pretty wild. I look forward to seeing if you discover any of the secret levels. One tip: You can use a single "is" to create two sentences, one vertical and one horizontal, in a cross shape with "is" at the center. This can free up a second "is" for other purposes.
I really like the fact, that you are two people playing this game. Having more then one person for this game is a good idea. Have already played it myself. Hopefully you don't get frustrated by the later levels. The game gets REALLY hard.
They were actually quite close with the unsolved one, I was just waiting for that eureka moment to hit one of them! Oh well, guess I'll just have to keep watching to see them finally figure it out :P
I am extremely excited for this, this is an absolutely amazing game and watching you play it seems so promising. Please do be a bit careful about the comments though. There's a segment of Baba Is You fans that just shout spoilers and solutions and frustrations at anyone playing, which can ruin the experience if you let them/it.
At this point, 51:50 I think the solution is to free up the word 'is', by forming a cross with 'baba is you' and 'rock is push'. The 'is' can then push the rock passed the crab. Then create 'rock is you' to reach the flag.
My wife and I love watching this channel on the weekend for some chill videos to relax too. The second the got to the second world, we remembered the extra levels and how much they hurt us, let alone the later levels. Best of luck to both of you, this isn't a quick game to pick up and play and it is stupidly deep. But we'll love watching you get though it. Best of luck!
Hints for the failed one, pushing is important and you were on the right track with pushing the rock and then pushing it with words, but the key is you only need 1 is.
I think you'll understand when I say that this is going on my "Watch Later" list, 'cause I want to play this game before I watch this! (And I haven't gotten it just yet...)
@@wariolandgoldpiramid I got to disagree. That usually just devolves into chat telling the solution (that they already knew) to the streamer and the streamer never actually solving anything. In my opinion it removes the point of the entire thing.
@@vegetalss4 Well, I only watched small streams with small number of viewers, so the chat is respectable, only providing info when the streamers really asks for it
48:00 - yes, you did have half the solution by pushing Rock onto Crab -- of course, sometimes the missing half is the hardest part to figure out. Many levels are in fact designed around a specific interaction between rules (like how "Defeat" only destroys a "You" object, non-"You" objects can pass over it without effect) and can't necessarily be solved by alternate means (some levels have been updated/tweaked to remove unintended solutions).
i really enjoyed this video!!! it's my first from you guys and i'll definitely be back. you're good at entertaining people while working on the puzzles at the same time, and your dynamic together is fun :) thanks!
A control you missed in the level that introduced MOVE: if you press A time will advance one step without you having to move. This might be useful in levels that use MOVE in the future.
33:07 ... oh no :D No wonder the video is so long ahah! That definitely one of the latter puzzle I solved. I'm glad you picked it up btw! And having two brains is definitely a good thing, the level where wall isn't stop is a good example of something where having a more passive player helps a lot.
"We'll just do this bonus level and then call it here" - Dan @ 33:12 Looks down at video bar to see video is an hour long Well now I see why the video is called Ow My Brain
Trying to find words to describe the "hidden rules" of the game is fun. Like how text is always push. And things that are push are ALSO stop if there is nowhere to push them.
I've watched Day9 play some of this. Amazing brain twister of a game. Very unique, fun and a bit frustrating. You guys were so close on that bonus level. Can't wait to see you do more. It is a lot of fun to watch you two process what the rules are for each board and figuring out what you can and can't manipulate.
I know you all record ahead, but the reason the pattern at 39:45 doesn't work is because Noun is Verb relations only work down and to the right. Since push is above wall, it is interpreting it as "Push is Wall" not "Wall is Push" and thus not creating a relation.
32:57 I imagined a different solution: 1. With Baba, undo the "ROCK is PUSH" statement 2. Push the "ROCK" tile next to "BABA" in the statement BABA is YOU" 3. Form the statement "ROCK IS YOU" 4. Get the rock back to the left side, and form the statement "BABA IS YOU" 5. Push the rock on the flag with Baba 6. With Baba, go back to the right and activate "CRAB IS DEFEAT" and "FLAG IS WIN" 7. Go back to the left and form the statement "ROCK IS YOU"
I love this game. It's easily my favorite puzzle game of all time. It's interesting to see other people play it, and think about things in completely different ways than I would. I hope you stick with it long term.
another great game to play with friends! we haven't quite gotten through all the levels, but you are correct. the later ones really bend the brain. challenge levels especially so.
Oh you were SO close with the unsolved one, you did almost everything you needed and you'd seen the last bit you were missing before! You get in your own head in this game tho and get stuck in a way of thinking until you take a step back sometimes tho
So, I have been wanting this game for a long time, and was gifted it by a friend literally yesterday. I started playing through last night, and you are starting it today? So, I’m staying spoiler-free while also playing a game at the same time that you guys are, and it feels like that timing is amazing. 😄 About that level, though, I beat it, and it took me a long while, but you guys were so close!
regarding the idea that you can't be you and stop at the same time, this is simply not the case. "stop" describes how other objects interact with the associated noun. wall is stop means the wall stops movement that attempts to go through it. it doesn't say anything about the wall not moving (the wall generally doesn't move on its own, though, because it has nothing assigned to it that would cause it to move)
This game is fantastic and I can't help but feel very excited to see you discover this brain melter. Part of me wants to help. But it's much more fun to watch you flail about and discover things for yourselves, so no spoilers!
Idk if they record this all in advance, but I hope they find out soon that coloured blocks can only end logic chains, unless an "and" is involved to append a second coloured block.
I think the way to complete the second last puzle was to make something like this: B for Baba I for Is Y for You R for Rock P for Push * R * B I Y * P * That way you can both move the rock and push the rock, also using the extra _IS_ for moving the rock into the pit. Then, you can move the ROCK particle and replace Baba and that way you can go WIN.
That would work, but I think it would also work to push the rock onto the crab, then reform "rock is push" vertically along the wall, and push the "push" into the rock to get it past the crab (assuming the rock gets pushed before the "rock is push" rule breaks), then replace "baba" with "rock". It's possible that you can't push something with the action that stops it being push - I've not done the experiment to find out.
Having not played the game here's what I think would work. -"Baba is you" on top of the wall with "baba" sticking out -rock on crab -"rock is push" vertical along the wall with push next to rock -push rock past crab -push "rock is" up so that "rock" replaces "baba" I think your issue is that because "baba is you" is hard to arrange vertically you had a hard time thinking anything could be spelt vertically.

39:20: For the comment-reading Playfriends out there: The problem is that test is directional in this game.
Don't feel the need to complete them if you're not sure how.
listening to them learn the wrong lesson with PUSH is WALL hurt, but I know I made the same mistake when I started
34:34 "HECK!" I felt that.
If you think this game is mindbending now, just you wait.
no spoilers but omg yes
39:43 doesn’t it also have the problem of technically saying “push is wall” and block-bound words can’t do that grammatically
59:00 now I want fan art of Dan and Carrie cosplaying doctor loboto
I can already imagine the wonderful Carrie-isms that will spawn from this game. "CHICKEN IS!"
Oh God I've never yelled at my TV so much 🤣 this game is so hard, but once you've been it the answer seems so obvious. Also Carrie is CARRYING y'all!
Oh, such a good game! But such a complex game too.
Prepare not just for brain teasers, brain twisters, and brain busters, but brain mindfudges.
I still can't make sense of everything that I saw when I watched Punchy's speedrun of this game for GDQ. Not only was he going so fast, but the solutions for the puzzles on the true ending path are just... nuts of a 4th-wall breaking variety.
I LITERALLY WAS GONNA TWEET AT Y'ALL SUGGESTING THIS GAME and then thought, "No, they've got full plates, just enjoy what they do" and now YOU'RE DOING IT :D
A few non-spoiler tips:
1) Order of words matters.
I love multiperson singleplayer LPs in general because dialogue is usually more fun, it brings a new perspective in, and also it lets one person run commentary when the other person has to go quiet to focus. I've seen other LPers sacrifice their gameplay for the sake of keeping a running commentary going because the thought of just going quiet for 40 second is anathema. But having a second person there frees you from the dilemma entirely. :p
But the second perspective is extra useful in a puzzle game like this, where she can see or figure out things you would struggle with, and vice versa.
Lv5. I knew of two solutions for that level and she found a third one. :p
Lv7. Congrats! I've seen people absolutely STRUGGLE with the concept that you can use the same IS in both directions and get two clauses in a cross like that.
Extra 1. This is exactly the kind of collaboration it's really lovely to see on puzzles. :3
Extra 2. "I'm sure this is so obvious to anyone who's already solved it."
I have... no memory of how I solved that one. I vaguely remember walking the "ROCK IS YOU" and "BABA IS YOU" down together? But I don't recall if that actually was the solution or just one of my failed attempts.
I don't recall if solved this one at all...
Your cooperation trying to figure these out is so good. :3
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this!
...I should maybe go and actually complete my own game before you reach the part I got stuck at.
My thought for level lake extra 1 was to make it “rock is you” and “baba is push”, push baba into the flag, push “crab” and “flag” into place and then make it “baba is you” once more for the win.
Yea thats one of the ways, i had never seen anyone do it the way did
Important (spoiler free) note for this game. Commands can only read top to bottom or left to right. Commands also require a noun to begin the phrase. The inverted text (ex. YOU, PUSH, STOP) cannot start a command.
Remember: none of the solutions are "obvious", so don't beat yourself up if you don't get a puzzle
JOCHEM IS SURPRISE! (thanks Hamster xD)
I did not expect this game to ever be featured on this channel, but I absolutely do not mind 😄
Good luck in the later stages!
9:36 clever solution!
Normally, you'd do "Lava is push" and push it out of the way, but this one works too! Because the lava is both hot and melt, so it melts itself.
Also, you two are cute!
Really? I made baba the lava ((lava is baba)) and just walked the whole river over to the flag. I had no idea there were so many solutions!
Good luck!
Oh, by the way, if you pause in a level, the game will show you a list of all currently active rules. It's a very useful feature!
I loved the first 20 minutes of this game... before I realized how bad I am at puzzles. Me is dumb
You should not let this game scare you. Just take it slowly and jump between levels regularly to not feel bad when you get stumped (and to let your subconscious work on the solution to a previous puzzle).
This is the best weekend ever OMG. Banjo and Baba!?!?! You spoil us Dan!
I love that you're playing this! One way of thinking that might help with some of the trickier puzzles like the last one here is:
Words are always Push.
Push only pushes things that are also Push (or You)
Also, basic grammar: vertical sentences totally work, but they have to be Top to Down (or Left to Right).
Baba Is Hard! I know this might be a terrible idea, but I kinda want this to be a full playthrough...
That terrible moment where they're so close to the answer and it suddenly clicks for me, and then it says 10 minutes later and they're off on completely the wrong track again. And I'm just sitting here like "Nooooooo, take my epiphany! Pull it out of my brain!"
This was the most fun playthrough of Baba is you I've seen, just watching you two figuring out what the game is even doing was so entertaining
That little synth silence at the end of the 'Water is Sink' music track is the sound of the mind trying to comprehend the difficulty spike in the 'Lake' section
Low-key, this is one of the funniest puzzle games I've played.
You got so close to solving the extra 2 level 😭
(it took me over half an hour I think, but now knowing the solution and seeing you almost get it.. it's hard :D)
Such a delight to see Baba here! It was wonderful to hear both of you thinking through this gem!
Every way is the intended way to do all of the puzzles. If you complete it, you did it right.
This is fantastic. I never thought I'd see Baba Is You on PlayFrame, so I had no idea how much I needed to witness this!
This is one of my favorite puzzle game, and insainly confusing, good job and good luck
Watching people play and come up with different answers and the ones I came up with is crazy. There are so many ways to win.
You are the only person I’ve seen to actually solve icy waters the right way and not just push text into the jelly lol
Two heads means twice the smart! Or perhaps twice the confusion-
I think it means both. And that means twice the fun for us.
Dan Is Play
Carrie Is Help
Gil Is Watch
56:55 i was thinking ROCK IS PUSH and BABA IS YOU sharing the same IS, and pushing IS and the rock through the crab, then having ROCK IS YOU.
This series is going to be fantastic but also EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING to watch, isn't it?
I've seen other players, and it is true.
A bit easier when livestreamers accept hints, but hard with LPs.
I'm so glad y'all are tackling this game, because I love it conceptually and yet I know that if I tried to play it myself I would become an angerball.
7:39 Dan you make the game even more cute with those extra sound-effects you provide
"We'll just do this bonus level and then call it here" - Dan @ 33:12
Looks down at video bar to see video is an hour long
Well now I see why the video is called Ow My Brain
Trying to find words to describe the "hidden rules" of the game is fun. Like how text is always push. And things that are push are ALSO stop if there is nowhere to push them.
I love this game!
I play it whenever I want my brain to melt.
This is fun. This game has been on my list for a while. Love that you two are playing it.
32:57 I imagined a different solution:
1. With Baba, undo the "ROCK is PUSH" statement
2. Push the "ROCK" tile next to "BABA" in the statement BABA is YOU"
3. Form the statement "ROCK IS YOU"
4. Get the rock back to the left side, and form the statement "BABA IS YOU"
5. Push the rock on the flag with Baba
6. With Baba, go back to the right and activate "CRAB IS DEFEAT" and "FLAG IS WIN"
7. Go back to the left and form the statement "ROCK IS YOU"
I love this game. It's easily my favorite puzzle game of all time. It's interesting to see other people play it, and think about things in completely different ways than I would. I hope you stick with it long term.
If I ever need a smile, I just need to watch a Dan and Carrie co-op ☺️ just makes my day smiley
another great game to play with friends! we haven't quite gotten through all the levels, but you are correct. the later ones really bend the brain. challenge levels especially so.
Oh you were SO close with the unsolved one, you did almost everything you needed and you'd seen the last bit you were missing before! You get in your own head in this game tho and get stuck in a way of thinking until you take a step back sometimes tho
Oh man, this game is amazing. Looking forward to see you guys tackle some of the latter levels.
So, I have been wanting this game for a long time, and was gifted it by a friend literally yesterday. I started playing through last night, and you are starting it today? So, I’m staying spoiler-free while also playing a game at the same time that you guys are, and it feels like that timing is amazing. 😄
About that level, though, I beat it, and it took me a long while, but you guys were so close!
I hope there'll be some kind of reaction to the stage "poem".
regarding the idea that you can't be you and stop at the same time, this is simply not the case.
Multiple people starting this game within the last few days. Did the DLC/Update finally get a release date or something?
it was in a humble bundle recently, maybe that's why?
Both of your maniacal laughter's are the best
My solution to level 5 was lava is push.
I love the way it doesn't click for ages that wall isn't stop in level 7.
I'm 90% sure that level got me in the same way when I played it
Idk if they record this all in advance, but I hope they find out soon that coloured blocks can only end logic chains, unless an "and" is involved to append a second coloured block.
Oh. They said it and I missed it.
Though they didn't confirm and were still saying it at the end.
I think the way to complete the second last puzle was to make something like this:
B for Baba
I for Is
Y for You
R for Rock
P for Push
* R *
B I Y
* P *
That way you can both move the rock and push the rock, also using the extra _IS_ for moving the rock into the pit.
"This the beginning of brain-hurting story... Playframe plays Baba Is You."
Having not played the game here's what I think would work.
-"Baba is you" on top of the wall with "baba" sticking out
-rock on crab
-"rock is push" vertical along the wall with push next to rock
-push rock past crab
-push "rock is" up so that "rock" replaces "baba"
I think your issue is that because "baba is you" is hard to arrange vertically you had a hard time thinking anything could be spelt vertically.
