Flats' tanking instincts are real. I played with him once in early OW 2 and I continually made the wrong decision on Ana to hide around corners when I got dove. They were the wrong decisions, because Flats knew I was going to get dove and preemptively would be turning to me to give me bubble as Zarya. I'm a borderline GM player and I remember being shocked at how aware of me he was (at a hero he doesn't even really play).
you're not supposed to be around corners? That's information that i just learned. would like to know why the corner was an issue? Are you saying being with the team would've been a better decision (im guessing the obvious answer)?
I honestly don't think this guy knows he's playing tank, I think he thinks he's playing DPS and he likes having a big HP bar because it makes it harder for him to die. Instead of a glass cannon this guy's a reinforced titanium pea shooter. Bro is absolutely TERRIFIED of dying. That clip of him hiding behind the Cass at 5:30 actually sums it up perfectly.
You're spot on there You can find a lot of these kind of players in open q. They play tanks cause they rely on the extra health to not die (tho they also don't realise that they're also gonna be bigger hitboxes, so not like the increased health is gonna help these kind of players, too). They'll either play like a horse-blinder wearing person who thinks they're superman, or play like a scared person. Both cases they do not help their team at all and usually also feed a lot. I also wouldn't be surprised if this player doesn't know that Dva's guns are shotguns.
Every now and again, I come across a comment and I'm like, "huh, this may be me." And I have to sit with that. For me, I used to play dps primarily, and until one day I said fucc, it I'll tank so I can't die. Which turned into me loving tank. For a long time it took time to adjust to playing tank as opposed to dps. I went from playing Zarya and Hog, to Orisa (ow 1). Been tank healer main since. I think the issue, that goes unnoticed is, there is nuance between playing those roles and there is also a dofferent learning curve and how steep, is purely based on skill, adaptability and ultimately game knowledge. These roles inherently cause for different things and require different mindsets, although the main goal is the same. Also, it takes time and sometimes harsh or healthy criticism lol Sometimes people genuinely just have no idea what's going on. I made it to diamond, having never watched an OW video in OW 1. And I don't watch "how to play videos". I used to be Intel for the military, so I love picking things apart and putting them bacc together on my own. Not everyone knows how to do that. The community doesn't exactly make it easier sometimes either lol
I remember one time i was on Rein, We won and i finished the game with like 4 kills and 6 deaths. I apologised to my team for dragging my feet, but they told me that apparently i was making good space the whole time that's not reflected in the scoreboards
The thing about tank is that a lot of their role is doing things that don't get tracked on a scoreboard. It's kinda difficult to keep track with a number of how much space you make for your team.
@@CatgirlCoder Same way for support you can take a GM level support drop them in bronze they'll dps and get picks like they're supposed to cause its not about heal botting, heal to keep them alive not keep them full. The bronze will flame the GM supports ive seen it lmfao.
Nah it's true, one match I had a ball on my team whose stats weren't impressive, but he was making SO MUCH space for the rest of us. After it ended (we won obviously), I told him that I saw he was doing a great job regardless of what the scoreboard may say, and he was so grateful. Wholesome moment. Also there's this term called "Rein K:D" which basically means in many situations your KD as rein isn't going to look great even on wins, but you'll still be doing your job and playing your hero. I've heard this from some top 500 reins btw, it's a real thing.
I still think that title belongs to Raggtagg, his spectating bronze series was also brutal but he doesn't do a lot of OW content anymore and also gave up on Apex after that.
I'm going to agree with you. They have totally different jobs, but the energy they put off is very similar. Straight forward insults need a resurgence.
gotta respect someone understanding that "i think i played well and deserved to win" is something you can say without flaming your teammates. even if they overvalue the scoreboard, at least they aren't using it as an excuse to be a dick
"I have 65 kills and still lost" as a tank player already screams = "I am extremely selfish and went for kills instead of doing my actual job." Look, speaking as a tank/support player who's only recently gotten into games like this (I've only played day 1 OW for a few weeks before dropping and am now completely back in with Rivals), you have to kill the part of you that gets sad for not getting "MVP" and focus on being the actual mvp that makes a difference for your team and winning (a good team will notice you more than they'll care about who got the most kills in the long run). If you get a bunch of kills and win, cool. Make sure you don't get a big head and watch how much your team actually contributed for that to happen (and/or how much the other team isn't performing as well). If you get a lot of kills and LOSE though? Yeah, then what's the point. It's a team game. Go play deathmatch or something like it if you're so obsessed with kill counts. Like, I'm not saying I'd do better in the same situation because I know I'm not the best player whatsoever.... but at the very minimum, I'll try to do my job as best I can and as a tank, one of those things should always be looking out for my teammates.
Exactly. A natural support and tank player doesn't whine about kills or stats in general. At that point literally play dps. At the same time not sure if I want that person dps either lmao.
Listen. If your tank is doing THAT MUCH. Everyone else on that team should be the ones swapping to do their part. Each other role has 2 players per role there's no reason they should have lost that if their SINGLE TANK was dealing with they're entire team like that.

This is exactly why I hate how many hero shooters nowadays make "elims" both kills and assists. Why even have the assists as a measurement, when 90% of assists go into "elims" anyways?"
It wouldn't be so bad if it counted assist like Valorant and you had to contribute some significant damage or utility to a kill. In OW it's 1 damage, which dva can get by just peppering the screen with her crosshair.
@ That does help, but it still doesn’t make sense to combine them. Not saying assists shouldn’t count for credit (long enough it’s not 1 damage). However, there is a role to confirm kills with even some heroes designed around it.
