Yes , a good time to clean up! Clear all the dead leaves around the greenhouse and out of pots. Ha e a few things blooming right now. Made an attempt to cross my Euphorbia evansii with Euphorbia aeruginosa. Keep my fingers crossed!! Was watering a few, but this week is getting cold again. We are on the roller coaster as far as weather goes right now. Kind of a transition period during March. So holding off until a warm day comes back. Great video! Excellent video, Lyn. Great to finally start giving the plants their first little drink of the year. Gave a few of mine some water the other day, too. @@scottgardiner7438 Awwwwww thanks so much Scott and so happy you love my vids :-D and yes lets hope the weather gets better, its very wet and windy here today too, roll on Spring we say haha XXXXX
This year I think I'm going to hold off one or two more weeks, once temps start getting consistently 13C or more I will start with a light water if its sunny to ensure fast dryness. Like last year, its a cold start to spring but it will surely warm up faster than last year did where so much of the spring was lost as plants stayed in dormancy. My new greenhouse is now up and retains heat much better than the old one. I have had most of my collection now in the house for nearly three weeks as I had to postpone building it due to the high winds and bring the collection in to ensure they stayed out of the elements. Spring in recent years has been increasingly unpredictable, (especially February and March) which always used to be cool but relatively dry. Winter overall was quite warm this year and the prospect of snow is gone now I think. I can't wait to see the displays of flowers again under the warm June and July sun.
Thats brilliant news you have your new greenhouse up James, thats so exciting and perfect timing for the upcoming Spring too, the weather has been so up and down here in Northern Ireland, it was mild and sunny at the weekend but has now gone back to very wet and windy again, I really hope that it starts to warm up very soon, last Spring was a disaster with the snow and cold temps it was like a never ending Winter haha, and all the cacti was so late to get started and to bloom, but lets hope this spring starts off good, I am so looking forward to giving all the cacti in the polytunnel a good drink for the first time hopefully next month ( weather permitting haha ) thanks so much James for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Somerset for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
Was so nice watching those thirsty plants get their first watering! I also watered my blue chalk fingers in the greenhouse yesterday. By the way, in the genus name Kalanchoe the ch is properly pronounced ch and not k, which is rare! 🌵
It was so fantastic to get watering some of the plants for the first time, and I am so looking forward to giving all the others a good drink next month, thanks so much for letting me know the correct pronunciation of the Kalanchoe, these plants are real tonguetwisters haha, thanks so much Jon for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX

So happy you love to see the collection Linda :-D yes I will be giving the Epiphytic cacti and the Opuntias another good drink as they are still quite shriveled and I will be sure to film a before and after video on how they respond to having a good watering, thanks so much Linda for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
Hey my wonderful neighbour,I'm so excited to watch all you're videos,I've been in hospital for along time,I'm email you about that,I hope you and hans are keeping really well and safe. Thanks for sharing your knowledge always appreciated lyn take care xxxxxxxxx:D
Your video is right on time. I lost my penis cactus last night, because I realized I'd given it a bit too much water, and it rotted. I'm still figuring out the "winter" here in AZ for my indoor cacti. Thankfully, I can replace it, but it is always a bummer to lose a cactus to rot!
It happens to the best of us. Judging cacti watering is one of the most difficult aspects of this hobby as most of these plants have a narrow range of tolerance for moisture. Lyn has been growing cacti and succulents since the 1980's and I'm sure she will give you the best possible answer and advice.
Oh no so sorry to hear that you had lost your penis cactus Ashley, its always so gutting when we lose plants we love, it can be so tough to get our plants through the Winter, I hope you will be able to replace it, thanks so much Ashley for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Arizona for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
@@demonhalo67 I've become almost as knowledgeable as Lyn, just from watching all her videos. She continues to provide us with a wealth of knowledge. Thankfully, I was able to replace the cactus I lost, and all my others are doing well!
Thank you; I always enjoy seeing your collection and learning from your vast store of knowledge. I do want to let you know the correct pronunciation of a couple terms, though: Opuntia and Cholla are both Spanish words and even for English speakers they are still pronounced o. punTEE uh. and CHOYuh respectively.
So happy you enjoy seeing the collection Sandra :-D and Thank you so much for letting me know the correct pronunciation of the Opuntia and Cholla, I find them such tongue twisters to pronounce haha, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX

Thank you for the tour Lyn. I want to ask, what ever happened to that mammillaria that was bent over? Is that is at 15:41 there at the back? It was the one that you had to prop up on another potted cacti pot to keep it from falling over. I think you said you were going to repot it in a heavier pot so it would not keep tipping over. What ever happened to that one? Did it decide to stand up?
So happy you enjoyed the tour :-D the Mammillaria I have had prop up on the floor next to the lawn mower in the polytunnel as its so top heavy it falls off the table haha, I will be giving it a repot into a heavier pot in the Spring with a few of my other 'Top heavy' cacti haha :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
Thanks so much, I will make an update on the Dragon fruits very soon, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
Great video! I was wondering if you have experienced any problems with your A. salmiana over the winter? I kept mine dry and cold at about 5 C last winter, but it kept loosing some of its stems. This winter it has slept in warmer temperatures and has not dropped a single stem. Hmmmm…
So happy you enjoyed the video Lasse :-D yes I also notice that the A. Salmianas drop quite a few stems during the winter in the polytunnel, when we had them in the house for Winter they didn't lose any stems, I think these cacti may prefer a more warmer winter than the other varieties and i may overwinter a couple of them this coming year indoors to see how they react compared to the ones overwintered in the polytunnel, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
I have a question for you about Kalanchoe. I had read that they should be given a couple months break in order to get them to flower better in the winter. So, I put the shades down in a spare bedroom and kept them in there for September and October and brought them back out in November. Something went wrong because they dropped a lot of leaves and are really scraggly looking now. Plus, they used to start budding up in January and flowered the end of January and February and the flowers lasted until the summer. Now, they’re just flowering now, so they’re about a month behind. I was wondering if I should cut them back and propagate the stems? Will that help to make them fuller? They’re just so scraggly now… oh - they’re Kalanchoe Flaming Katy. Thank you in advance and thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵
Hi Sharon :-D so sorry to hear about your Kalanchoe Flaming Katys, yes I would definitely prune them back and then re start more plants from the stem cuttings, I had to do this with mine the weekend too, as mine had grown very straggly and lost lots of leaves even though they were in the grow room under lights that I turn off when it starts to go dark, I have pruned the plants right back to about 3 inches in height, and then put all the cuttings into a glass of water to root them, once the cuttings have rooted they can be planted back into the same pot as the Mother plant to make a more bushier plant, and the Mother plant will also grow bushier once it has been pruned back too, thanks so much Sharon for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
Hi Dave :-D yes I will definitely be filming a video when I give the cacti their first Neem oil treatment of the year, it will be either at the end of this month or early next month in April, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic new week XXXX
I’m new here and wonder if you water your indoor cacti the same way that you water your outdoor? It seems that a cactus indoors with heat on would need some water during those months. We cut back on water during dormant months but indoors they are never totally dormant. When you see a cactus out in your tunnel shriveling up like some of them aren’t you tempted to give them a bit of water?? I live in an area that is way too cold to grow cactus or succulents outdoors. If I saw a plant shriveled like that I don’t think I could stand it! 😳 I have watched a few of your videos and have been looking forward to seeing you water those poor thirsty cactus! Have never seen this before.
Hi Ellie :-D yes I water the cacti indoors more if they are starting to shrivel in the Winter, but the desert ones in the polytunnel I keep dry until April time, I am itching to start watering the desert ones in the polytunnel though haha, but I know its best to wait until the middle of next month because the nights are still quite chilly here in Ireland, I do give my indoor cacti a water in Jan or early feb if they are showing signs of shrivelling but just enough to stop them from shrivelling too much, thanks so much for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

I watered my Trichocereus babies yesterday. They’re budding 🙂
Thats fantastic news you have your Trichocereus babies in bud, its so exciting to see the buds on the plants, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX
Can you show a video of how the newly watered plants respond please? Love seeing your collection and what you do! 👍👍👍❤❤
Hi there John, our wonderful neighbour
I do want to let you know the correct pronunciation of a couple terms, though: Opuntia and Cholla are both Spanish words and even for English speakers they are still pronounced
o. punTEE uh. and CHOYuh respectively.

Pl make a video on Dragon plant
@@desertplantsofavalon Thank you so much!! I will do that!! 💜💜💜💚🪴🌵

Will you show the neem oil watering. Mine will need it , never done it before lol. Thanks.
It seems that a cactus indoors with heat on would need some
water during those months.
