- Many experts recommend plants be watered early in the morning. But there are a few more things to consider if you want to water at an optimal time.
When water is present for too long on leaves and stems it can be an invitation for pathogens such as fungal disease or harmful bacteria.
In this video we'll have a look at why timing of watering can matter and when the best to water succulents is based on scientific research. You can read the research papers below

I am such a big fan of yours! This is once again very helpful tips!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much- really appreciate you saying this 💚💚
Good to know 😊thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you 🙂💚
I learned differently from the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek, California. Because cactus and succulents use crassulacean acid metabolism, they are metabolically active during the night, not in the day. They close the pores in their leaves to stay cool during the day and then open them during the night to take in CO2. So we learned to water our plants in the evening which is when they can absorb water. It’s very dry here, so maybe that makes a difference.
I'm aware of the Crassulacecan Acid Metabolism, but i don't think it means succulents are not active during the day. CAM means that plants able to perform it open their stomata during the night to exchange gasses in order to prevent water loss. They absorb CO2 during the night, then convert it to C4 gasses which are then converted back to CO2 during the day to preform photosynthesis. They can absolutely take up water during the day through the roots. They phtosynthesize during the day just like other plants, but CAM means they keep their stomata closed while doing so.
Thank you so much for clarifying this for me.I really love your channel!
Thank you 💚 Succulents are such interesting plants with so many cool adaptations 🌵@@bonniebonnie7149
Your channel is helping me so much, thank you. I need an inexpensive way to protect my succulents from rain.
Thank you- so glad the videos are helpful 🙂 You can get a small greenhouse that is something like 1x2m - some even have shelves. They usually come with a clear plastic cover, but that doesn't have any UV protection so would recommend getting an extra 30% shadecloth to put over the plastic. Also, ventilation is important in small greenhouses like this, so one with little windows is best 🙂

At 5:11 can u please tell me the name of the echeveria on the left screen with the hot pinkish red frilly edges? I have subscribed and watched all your videos for a very long time. Thank you for your great info and advice!
Echeveria Katella 🙂 Thank you so much for following along and for your kind comments- very much appreciated 💚
Thank you so much!! I'll check out ordering from you but I live in USA so I'll check your policies 😊 either way I love your content!
I'm afraid we don't post overseas. Only sell in Australia as it's simply easier- the paperwork and things like the phytosanitary certificate are hard work 😟But you should be able to get this plant in the US- i've seen some amazing nurseries that are based in the states and am pretty sure someone will have the Katella 🙂@@bobbiechinn9578
