I’m playing bass for the first time and I have reached lesson 7 I’m progressing very well and enjoying every lesson. I replay the lessons over and over and this has helped with my progress. Your sessions have been the best on UA-cam with no frills just patient straight forward teaching which I appreciate

Hey man, I’m just jumping in to your most recent video in case you might read this - I just wanted to say thanks. I’ve been playing for 20 years, but am coming back to playing after a hiatus of about 7 years. I’ve been trying to re-learn my theory and these are BY MILES the best bass-centric theory lesson on the internet. Sincerely appreciate your work, I get a lot out of it and you seem like a guy I’d be happy to hang with nonetheless.

I find your lessons very helpfull and well delivered. I did 3 years music theory at school (52yrs ago) and played bass by ear in my teens. I picked the bass back up about 5 yrs ago, initially playing by ear again but with bits of information from YT etc. Getting frustrated trying to match up half remembered theory with what I've gleaned "self teaching". Your videos are brilliant at tying these things together and making sense of them. There's lots of little light bulb moments in your lessons for me, as well as lots of technique tips too. Thank you so much!

I've been playing on and off for a number of years, but haven't progressed beyond learning some bass lines. These are, hands down, the best lessons I've found. The pace matches the content really well, I'm enjoying the narrative between lessons and I feel like I'm learning and developing with every one. The best thing for me is your delivery. Thanks for putting this series together, it's clear a lot of thought goes into it.

Thank you very much. You’re a great teacher! I’m a total novice. I get confused about the correct fingering for a specific pattern. Should I follow your fingering? Also it would be great to have tabs or notes that could be downloaded and printed as I rewind to follow. Again I’m total beginner so my comments are probably lame but that’s where I’m at.

Great lesson! Could you do a lesson about how to get from intermediate bass player (stuck in one place practicing 2 octave scales, arepeggios, warm-up exercises, improvising and playing a bass line created on a fly to a backing track) to the advanced bass player and what to do, what to learn, what to practice, some theory to become advanced, some scale and arpeggio exercises but for the advanced bass player? IT WOULD BE SO COOL! And many people would benefit from this lesson. A genre playing lessons would also be GREAT for example how to play rock on bass, how to play metal on bass, how to play soul on bass, how to play motown on bass, how to play country on bass, how to play fusion (jazz-rock) on bass, how to play funk on bass and of course how to play jazz on bass guitar and how to start easily with walking bass lines and slowly become more fluent in playing walking bass (everything for intermediate/early advanced bass players) ! Could you please do lessons like this? It would be awesome! You are a great teacher and thank you for everything! I hope you will do lessons like these ideas I gave you in this comment. WE WOULD LOVE THAT! Greetings from Poland, Mike :)

Ur a real good teacher, you'd be an great asset to college level Bass , stage band,
Oh, and I understand the value of learning scales, key, etc. because when u teach shapes, I kinda get they're a particular scale like C major.. chord inversions, or triads makes sense and I see how writers find that $$ baseline

Hey Mr. Brown! Thank you for the lessons :) I really enjoy your bass lessons, they're easy to follow, contain a lot of useful information (that you manage to break down even for someone who just picked up the bass) and you've got an incredibly calming voice. In my opinion you're definitely the #1 bass teacher on the internet. Keep it up!

Thanks Rich. Just a question- is there a reason we have moved to major 7th straight away? In next video can you explain a bit more about the relationship between them. Why particularly G and C. Thank. Really appreciate your lessons. Really helping me as a beginner. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your question. We're still dealing with the triads, but I chose the major 7 chords to colour the harmony and create a nice backdrop for the exercise. C and G just seemed like a nice place to start. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for watching.

Hey Rich- you mentioned Sting as an example (despite his one-note reputation)he’s a real bassist-also CCR, because Fogarty’s brother wasn’t a bassist, just struggling to keep up. And ZZTop-bass is simple but a powerful drummer.

Hey Rich! First of all, awesome videos, thx a lot for the hard work. One thing tho, here 10:46 when the letters for notes start showing up it should be BGDB DGB (and goes that way on the C major). It threw me off the first time i tried to play along, coz i thought i didnt understand the pattern. But again, thx a lot for your videos, can't wait for new ones!
