Good work as always. The accessibility of the pentatonic scale is a great way to "find" other scales and modes, tasting their flavors. Starting with the minor pentatonic, you can experiment with the tones that define Dorian, Phrygian, Aeolian and Blues scales respectively by integrating but a single additional note. The same goes with the major flavored modes. So in truth, you are never leaving the comfort of the simple pentatonic shapes, you are just adding seasoning. Its a great way to expand the musical palette and start looking at "wrong" notes as more than just passing tones.

I want to say: I love your way of teaching. Calm, confident and clear. You’re born to do this I think. I’ve seen many teachers on UA-cam, but you’re making things easier, not more complex. It almost feels like a real life lesson. Will check more of you. Thanks!!!

Yes Rich! The 2nd mode of the minor pentatonic is the major, the 2nd visual shape of the min pentatonic is the major pentatonic.
Then it’s just about running the shapes with a sequence, and you’re halfway there. Just throw in some ornamentations like bends and slides to make it more musical and expressive 👍👍👍👍 possibly on the flat 5th for minor, or min 3rd for the major!
    You know your stuff 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍👍👍

Picked up my bass again after 25 year hiatus and Rich has been incredibly helpful to me. These lessons are so well explained and paced perfectly, clearly explained and demonstrated. I'm actually starting to understand how things fit together, moved way past my old plateau, and am enjoying the instrument so much more than I did in the past. Thank you, Rich!

Wow! This is like the missing link in hipness. Love how you toss away the idea of the blues scale and just think of it as adding the flat 5. Playing around with this for just a minute and I'm having a eureka moment. Well done as always sir. I feel like I should bump up my patreon contribution just for this first 2 minutes of this vid

    🔥🙌🏾😎
    Great vid. Practice summary:
    1. Four note sequence climbing each note of the minor pentatonic scale
    2. Four note sequence including the blue note (♭⁵)
    3. Four note sequence including the blue note (♭⁵) but excluding the perfect fifth (♮⁵)
    4. Major pentatonic with blue note (♭³) as a passing tone
    5. Jam with it… major and minor
    Bonus: the blue note (eg E♭) is also a minor triad (E♭ G♭ B♭) giving the blue chord of C major (♭³ ♭⁵ ♭⁷) or A minor (♭⁵ 𝄫⁷/♮⁶ ♭⁹) …a passing chord (between chords ii & iii or IV & V)
    🎶🙏🏿💫

    Man....am I glad I found your channel
I knew you were gonna say the flat 5! Haha. Love that sound. The "option" of the blues note makes it especially tasty when brought out in passing. Makes the listener go, whoa, that was a cool passage. What was that?

Playing the minor "blues" scale and leaving out the perfect 5th sounds so mean! I'm positive that I've done this before. However, I've never given this the weight that I should have! This fits perfectly into my playing! You're the man Rich!
