Thanks for this Julie, another of my Wednesday evening haunts back in the 80's /90's around the time the restaurant carriage was added. Sadly, I never entered it.
Johnny George was my mothers uncle , known as “uncle Jack”, I know after he died his widow and 2 unmarried daughters ran it (with a rod of iron I was told 😊) until the early 60s. They certainly were characters.
@@julieswallsendhistory8671 you are correct about it’s nickname being The Vatican, my mam said if there was ever any bother, they rang the priest to sort it out, not the police. 😊

it was a good pub in its day
It was one of the last remaining pubs in the area too, not much left now.

I think he was one of the best known people connected to the pub, it's amazing how much he is still mentioned today.
