- A quick look at my bike, the mod to the exhaust system and a quick test of the cruise control...
I've done a video on the whole process, with comparative sound, here: • Yamaha Dragstar Exhaus...
Addendum: I did do an 8 hole mod, with a 10mm bit, and it did effect the fuel consumption to a negative effect. The 4 hole mod on each silencer seems to be the best!
Just done the mod according to your intructions on my v-star 650 classic, AWESOME sound now, thanks heaps!
What year vstar?
Do you know what the new decibel level is? Where I live its part of the mot, restriced to 85dbls, or have spare standard pipes. I get 170 miles before reserve with standard pipes.
Whats your cruise control? I cant find one that doesn't interfere with the start button.
No idea of dB level, but I make a custom cruise control video

hey man, thanks for the awesome mod.
Just done my after a year riding with stock exhaust, I have the newer model so I had to drill through two walls, no problem.
I tested out the new sound, so far not a single problem, accelerate smooth, the only thing I have notice is this.
If I downshift or engine break if can hear a small popping sound, no popping sound while I accelerate or drop is speed tho.
What do you think?
BTW: Did exactly what you did, same drill bit etc.
Thats the Air Induction system. It burns fuel in the exhaust creating that annoying popping sound. To remove it see my latest video on how to do it!!

Hey man, thanks for your fast response, I was more worried that it will hurt my engine.
So you are saying that you had the same popping sound when you did your mod until you removed the air induction system?
thanks
BTW: I loved my bike before but I am so in fucking love with it now since it has a better sound, its like I finally feel I have a little beast :)
Its always there from stock, you just hear it better with the exhaust mod. Before the mod there was always a little whistling and low popping, but become noticeable when you listen to the new exhaust sound.
thanks man! you're awesome!
Hey, I am a first time bike owner with the Dragstar 125 and want to know exactly how to mod the handle bars for the classic style tassles? Also could you list up all i need to do the exhaust mod? cheers.
Kain
For the exhaust see the other reply on the latest video.
As for tassles, do you mean like the ones here? and in what way modding the handle bars? I just bought standard tassles and fitted them.
6 holes sounds & looks better ;)
I just made a set for my new bike out of my old (cut up) leather jacket sleeve, forgot to make a vid :/
how would you compare the sound to complete tuned muffler?
Its a good sound and soon after I drilled more holes.... and it really sounded good.... But as I no longer have this bike (accident) I bought another xvs650 and did the same mode... You can find the whole process in my videos...
Can be found here Yamaha Dragstar Exhaust Modification - No rejet!

I hope more mileage not came from engine running leaner...
No... My MOT and servicing mechanics are pretty good at telling me if there is a running issue with the bike, ie- running a little lean etc
@Gothtecdotcom normely it sounds like a lawnmover but now ppl ll know theres a bike cummin!! and ever more one off reason to get more miles pr gallon!!
Oh my God what did you do with this bike!!! That ugly sound makes it sound like an electric generator😑
More like my mic is sh*te
