approximately 1962 at top Ryde shopping centre Devlin St car park which isn't there anymore i seen Billy sing this and a couple of other songs he was doing a promotion came out of the shops into the car park and he was just about to get started i was 7 and I've never forgot it RIP Billy I'm missing you great man.
I remember this being released (shows my age) and several years later Sunbury. Huge difference in both singing style and looks but his voice was excellent, no matter the genre. Great talent and sadly missed.
I was at Surf City, Darlinghurst Road, Kings Cross when Billy Thorpe sang this for the first time. rockers, surfies, straights, camps, pimps, strippers, beats and Westies stopped dead in their tracks
Lynette..like you I saw Billy and the Aztecs at Surf City and the Beachouse every weekend right through those mid 60’s when he was there with Ray Brown and the Whispers. We’re so blessed to share those great memories of these absolute talented Aussie legends !
im 16 years old im listening to this music that my pop has showed me and its just amazing how the younger generation like it billy is and was always be my favourite music
Inducted into the Hallof Fame last night....So deserving, not just a wonderful performer but a terrific person....The Friday nights at the Beach House will stay with me forever....Billy Thorpe R.I.P.
Billy had such a great gift. Totally mesmerized the audience and I was so lucky to have gone to a lot of his concerts. My first true love in music. RIP Billy, never forgotten. ♫
Thank you for the memory of a clean cut young man who sang songs we all loved to hear, but unfortunately he followed so many others in to what I term as alternative pop music and left me wondering the reason why.
This version is just simply beautiful the version with him by himself is also beautiful . I was wondering though , does anyone know if this was the first original version? before Judy Garland
Billy was wonderful in his early days, sadly became so full of his own self importance people would walk out. The music so loud (can you believe that?) When asked to turn in down, he would turn it up!!! Most would just leave you can't enjoy a pub band when it's so loud you can't hear what they are singing!!! This however from the early days in beautiful and how we like to remember him and the Aztecs!!!! :)
......3:10 could be a young Barbara Eden almost. It would soon be the Beatles that would come sweep them off their feet ...That short hair look takes some getting used to .
I've been hoping someone would post this for years. It's my favourite version, no one believed me when I said this version exists. Thank you!!!
Still got the LP which has this song on it
Most Beautifyl rendition of "Over the Rainbow" EVER
An " IZ's"version is also a good one

+John Medwin Too make a living I guess.
It certainly revised his career.

+Paul Culwell
Judy Garland sang it way back in 1939 and it's the original. She sung it 25 years before Thorpe's version.
Thank you very much for this information, i trust that it is accurate so i won't question it, very nice.
Billy wasn't even born when the original came out in the film, the Wizard of Oz.

If this beautiful song doesn’t make you shed a tear I’m really sorry there’s no way your human absolutely not
You have to wonder whether the person who pressed thumbs down button missed the thumbs up button (either that or they are tone deaf).
