Best version I've ever heard!..Billy Thorpe takes his time in delivering the words in the song!..that's the key of this song!...Billy knew that!... and that's why I think Bill sung it this way and made this song is special!..God bless!
Love this song ... after a show my friend and i went around the back of the old Capital Théâtre in Sydney & to our surprise Billy Thorpe was walking along the street ,he had made an exit out the back of the Théâtre ,we had our Autograph books with us ...i can remember that moment like yesterday ...he was in a suit I couldn't take my eyes of him as he signed my Autograph Book ...he was so polite ,his skin was perfect ...& so was his cologne ...i was surprise he was far shorter than he looked on stage ... A Magic moment in time ...that will stay with me forever ....
Loved Billy Thorpe and used to dance to his songs many years ago at surf City king's Cross , he does sing the best version of somewhere over The rainbow there is no one that can sing it as good
Never mentioned , HE toured with Slim Dusty and was a great yodeler. 1964 I saw him singing and yodeling at The Beach House , Saturday nights , Elizibeth St Sydney and Surf City ,at the Cross. Also Ray Brown.both went too early.
Nigon Kouk The Platters recorded this around 1958, 6 -7 years before this version. Hardly a "con man" Sure, like a lot of singers he did cover versions early in his career. He's another he did shorty before his death. ua-cam.com/video/m62gip2biWs/v-deo.html
