    This video show you how to DIY do it yourself oil change on your BMW E65 E66. Process will probably be very similar on your other BMW cars as well. Save some cash and do the job yourself. Check out my other BMW car videos for all your needs.
    List of tools should be.
    1. Jack and stands and tire Chalks (these are what you put behind tires to prevent car from rolling backwards)
    2. socket wrench
    3. 24mm socket
    4. Large Size allen wrench should be 8 (but don't quote me)
    5. Small allen wrench size should be 5 or 6 (but don't quote me) if your purchasing they come together in sets so you'll be ok.
    6. Moblie 1 0-40w (Purchase in Link I have in description)
    7. Oil filter (Purchase in Link I have in description)
    8. Oil drip Pan & Oil funnel
    9. News Papers
    Funny Story in the video I talk about not dripping oil on driveway, while filming and talking I wasn't paying attention and next thing you know about 5 quarts are in my parents driveway Oh boy, The next few hours were spent buying cat liter and cleaning the mess up.

    Finally a DIY'r with a 7 series, Hope to see more projects on your 7 soon. Wanted to give you a tip on your little bolt that the little "O" ring... In the future before removing the black oil filter housing, remove this little bolt to drain the filter housing of oil, so when you take the filter housing off no oil mess! thanks again.

  • @MrDusa10
    @MrDusa10 11 років тому +2

    Little tip…
    The plug (silver bolt/screw) on the bottom of the filter housing (8:27) is the filter housing/filter drain plug.
    Mine was on sooo tight too, I didn’t change the "O" ring on it last oil change, was scared I’d crack the housing if I cranked too hard on it.
    Loosen that first (take it out) (prior to loosening the filter housing) this will drain the excess oil in the filter housing/filter; it will keep the oil from running out the top of the housing when you loosen it.
    Great video

    It is a lot cleaner if you remove the oil filter drain plug before you remove the oil filter canister.

    This was actually quite helpful. I just did mine at 3 AM like the Pepsi challenge. It wasn't too hard at all on one of the more complicated BMW engines (N62) using Mobil-1 0W40 euro spec oil. I left the car on stands so I can replace the sway bar end links in the morning. The only reason I'm not doing it right now is because I don't want to irritate my neighbors with my impact wrench taking the wheel bolts off.

    Hello, Yes the first thing I would do is check to see if the small nut or large cap is loose, 2nd is the only problem is that if you unscrew your cap to see if the large 0-ring is not in the right place is you'll loose a lot of oil, I've never drained it that way but you may loose a lot or all, I would go under the car check to see if your leaking from the big 0-ring location up near the threads, you could do another oil change right away, or just put back in the amount you may loose during

    Thank you! Just did my oil today and your video was useful when I needed to get that oil filter housing off... 24mm. Went to Sears for that as I didn't have one.
    I used Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30. Got 2 x 5qt bottles from Walmart for $25/each.
    Here's a list of LL01 BMW approved synthetic oils that you can use if you're not putting in the BMW stuff...
    Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30
    Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40
    Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30
    Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30

    When you push the button on your truck to close it doesn't work? If that is the case the button connection or fuse might be out, if it's opening ok then your hydraulics are working so that is good. My guess is that there's a broken or loose connection or fuse. Hopefully someone will see your comment and post some other feedback that has had this similar problem.

    Most of the pros use Mobil 1 0-40w euro formula, so I decided to also after some research, after a fresh oil change wow it's nice. I also never go over 8,000 miles between a oil change and always have to add another bottle to keep oil level up, because this engine drinks oil. Thanks for watching

    (2nd part of response) checking. The little o-ring should hold for 2 oil changes but again I'm no o-ring specialist, so my guess is that it's the large o-ring not in the right place or just not tightened all the way, or maybe when you went to loosen the small o-ring it actually loosened a little bit and is dripping from there. Hope this helps, let me know what the problem was. Thanks for watching.:)

    On the right hand side of the truck open that storage compartment and you'll see some fuses there, there's a guide to show you which is which buts it's not that detailed, I'll try to get a video up soon about location and which is which.

    The jack is a standard like 2 or 2.5 ton jack good quality, and in the video you see me, take off the top to be able to slip it under the car. Look for jacks at garage sales or just borrow from neighbor:)

    great video thanks for all the info. I have to wonder if my oil change shops ever change the little o ring in the bottom of the oil filter cap, but I did. I also used a 15/16 socket since that is equal to 23.81mm vs the 24mm you used and it worked just fine and smaller is better for sockets if it fits

    This video is nearly 13 minutes long. All anybody that watches this video really needs is about 13 seconds worth of video, not 13 minutes because we all want to know the same thing. The only thing that is relevant here to someone wanting to change the oil in their 6 series is what size socket, allen or torx are used and as fantastic as it seems in 13 minutes you never mention the only thing that is important. Incredible. Well done!
    Even with the 13 minutes of overkill you still managed to take off the oil filter off without showing it. Hello Hello Am I in the twilight zone or what? Where is the logic?

    I can always rely on you DIYsavecash! I just wanted the socket size for the main filter body :) Say, how about a an edit and a re-upload of this video?You could shorten it and show how the little allen key in the filter housing is for draining the filter housing before removal. Saves a lot of oil splash :) Thanks again dude.

    Hello Mike, yes I have the exact same problem I've been meaning to do a video about the sunroof, what the problem is, it's the metal that sticks up when the sunroof is open, so open the sunroof and look at the metal piece that pops up when open and lowers when shut, mine must be off alignment or bent because I can only close the sunroof unless I push down that metal piece with my finger right before the sunroof closes but I've smashed my finger a couple times it hurt bad. I'll try to get a vid

    (3rd part of response) I forgot one more thing, make sure that your leak is coming from the area of your cap oil drain area of engine and not some other part of your engine. The reason I say is because no leaks for 2k miles is normal, then all of a sudden an oil leak?

    My local bmw dealer parts dept. Said I should use 5w30. But slot of what I see on the web says use 0-40w ll01. What's your recommendation for my 750li that has 104k miles . Thnx in advance

  • @amex1997
    @amex1997 9 років тому +1

    zup man, sorry to bother you, you use 0-40 oil, was that listed on your manual? because I hv a 06 750li and my says 5w-30 or 5w-40, soo why would you pit 0-40?,,,, also whats the reason behind replacing the small ring at the oil filter cap? a mean you took off the entire cap off and the oil drain screw out to drain the oil so I don't get the purpose behind the small screw seal at the oil cap,,,, im in CT usa (northeast) so that's why I ask about the oil

    • @DIYsavecash
      @DIYsavecash  8 років тому +2

      +Alfredo Azure G Hello great call, I use 0-40 just because other BMW mech's use the same and I trust them, and I get mine pretty cheap. From what I've read though is you shouldn't keep switching up oils on your car, so if you've been using 0-40w then stick to it, if your car is running great or if you've been using 5w-40 then keep it up, but just make sure you're running full synthetic oil, But my car runs great, the little cap you mentioned great call, I just go by the book and change the rubber o-rings etc, I guess if BMW mech's do it then I should probably do it also.

    quick question I followed the exact steps as you described except the little o ring on the cap because I couldn't get it to budge. I went 2k good without any leaks but I noticed today some oil stains underneath the car. I will pin point from where tomorrow but what do you advice? if the nut or cap is not loose should I just open the cap and try to re check the big o ring even though im pretty sure I put it into the groove with the nipples on it and try to re do the little o ring?

      Yes could be, go to the iDrive and go to the menu and check the oil level, if it's low you need to add some asap. When the level indictator is green your good, but watch level carefully, if it's yellow put some in asap. But when you start the car if you hear a loud grinding noise or bad bearing like sound could be the water pump bearing check out my video showing you this.
