The stupidest thing is that Star Wars already had one of the strongest female leads of all time when it was originally written. Leia is the leader of the Rebellion which is why she gets captured in the first movie. Leia’s main character features are that she’s brave, smart, and respected. The galaxy is dominated by a totalitarian regime that blows her home planet up in front of her, and her response is “$&@ you, come get these rebel hands.” She’s the definition of a badass, well written female character.

And now they simply have unbelievable characters that would apparently never get captured while having no training (rey). Optional: sob back story of being abandoned, orphaned or lgbtq being their entire backstory. Or my favorite: being bullied for their skin color. It's just so tiring.

Disney saying that their audience hates female leads and that Star Wars has been a patriarch is absolutely idiotic. Leia was not only a PRINCESS (who broke the norms of a princess being delicate)- she was also apart of the Senate AND the leader of the whole ass Rebellion. She was an extremely active character that often lead the charge. Not only that, but Padme was a similarly active, strong female character. A whole ass QUEEN and SENATOR who took her roles very seriously. On top of that, she was a beautiful wife who supported and cared for Anakin as he grew into a man. But, please Disney, keep yapping about how women have been neglected in Star Wars. Obviously the cast is more male leaning because at it's core, Star Wars is an epic Sci-Fi franchise with action, war and tons of battle and politics. Be realistic. Our current militia is heavily made of men (more than 80% men), it's just the facts. It's insane to call Star Wars a patriarch when it deals with male dominated topics and themes.
EDIT: As the replies are mentioning, I completely forgot to mention the badass females from The Clone Wars. Some replies list them all and I'd like to highlight Ahsoka (she's genuinely my favorite character, Anakin being my second. I can't believe I forgot to mention TCW characters). Ahsoka's dual wielding was incredibly epic and unique and her character arc over the show was BY FAR one of the most in-depth ones in Star Wars. Ahsoka is the prime example of how George Lucas's Star Wars was NOT AT ALL snoozing when it came to females.
And Asajj Ventress was so compelling and had a very well-written personality and inner conflict. Seeing a dark side female that was actually written really well is why I can't take any of Disney's villains today seriously, lol.

Yep. It's one thing to introduce a bunch of cool new female/'dIvErSe' characters. It's quite another to make it so blatantly one-sided (TFA, TROS, Solo, Ahsoka, Acolyte), to tear down all the previous male leads as being incompetent/overshadowed or even downright bad (Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Mando, TLJ), and to make them all such unbearably copy-paste girlbosses that will never face adversity that actually impacts them. It's so noticeable and boringly predictable at this point that even South Park parodied it. And now when people send a clear message back, let's see what Disney does with it... Oh look, what a surprise: fan-baiting, blaming others to cope for their own incompetence and being out of touch, calling the people that made the franchise great to begin with toxic ists 'n phobes. It's so unbelievably petty this shit couldn't have been headed by anyone other than women (yes, shots fired; you've had close to a decade now and billions of dollars to prove us wrong, and what did ya choose to do, what did ya do, Disney?)

Such a projection I might add.
All to project that a scenario where successful women can’t be married or in deep relationships. Men would just want to oppress them or overshadow them.
When reality is far from the truth. I found those women that are in the same page as I am and it just makes sense to be together.
She is working on her career, I am working on mine. Both have similar goals and interests.
In the alternative she can go into night clubs and look for a partner there…there is a good chance that they just want to f- them and are a mess
I can go too and find women and get my kicks with the same type of women.
But it’s an environment we aren’t that familiar with and not long term solutions.
With a willing partner you can get a neo traditional approach in place.

      Both do house chores
No time to cook, take out
Doesn’t work out, pre written agreements that I don’t take your stuff and you don’t take mine.

It's honestly insane that Disney was handed a franchise with a huge, long lasting and loyal fanbase and managed to destroy it. They've literally rewritten and retconned so much of the original story and original characters to the point that it's almost unrecognizable.
It's also really wild to write a bunch of crap characters, hyper specific social ideas, and lazy story lines and then blame fans when they point out that it's trash. I still haven't gotten over Rei's "this dagger has done terrible things!!" while she's toting around the Youngling Slayer 5000. It's just a bunch of people who figured out in a meeting one day that they can somehow blame other people for their own poor performance and no one had the decency to correct it. If the vast majority of people hate your show, and have been hating what you've been doing for some time, maybe consider that hate watching doesn't keep people around that long. It's actual fans who keep giving your content a shot because maaaaaaaaaaybe this time will be different. People loved the Mandalorian even though it was basically "someone kidnapped baby Yoda!! We've gotta get him back!! *baby Yoda eats something and coos*" rinse and repeat. It was reasonably close to the Star Wars setting and didn't retcon anything too crazy because it mostly created its own story in the bounds of that setting or kill off any beloved characters with absurd deaths. It's especially pathetic to try to act like they're trying to 'fight racism!!' with Star Wars in any capacity when THEY REMOVED FINN from the posters for other countries and they edit out so much to show in the Middle East that this trash probably isn't even available there.
The last 3 movies are just blatant attempts at taking what made any popular MALE character and basically trying to replace them with a new character meant to be a fan favorite, usually as a female. Luke is no longer the chosen one, Leia is a Jedi somehow, force healing was suddenly a thing even though soooo many characters have died that apparently didn't need to. At a certain point, it's better to just create actual new stories that at least somewhat stick to the lore.
Space lesbian witches who can reproduce without a male is literally just someone's "what is the Most Feminist you could be? Let's make them that." fantasy. They literally could have had the most basic storyline and a bunch of good action scenes and gotten away with it. A lot of action movies these days are basically like "Here is the justification for a bunch of cool action scenes. Here are the cool action scenes. Good guys win, the day is saved, roll credits." They've gotten so far away from the story tropes people know and love that when you add in all the bullshit it becomes unbearable. The original trilogy worked because people love the story of the heroic journey. The prequels work because it tells the backstory of how Anakin's heroic journey ended with him as the villain. People hated the most recent trilogy because it gave Rei all the abilities others had to work for, and then some more on top, for no reason. They tried to retcon that too but even that was lame. If they had written the Acolyte as it's own IP and not part of Star Wars, just a whodunit set in space, it probably wouldn't have been nearly as hated.
At this point I honestly think they're just trying to capitalize on the hate watching because someone has to be approving funding for this and there's no way they don't see the trends in their audience scores and content.
Also, to be fair, if I realized I had to fight a Wookie after I had already set out on a journey for revenge with my bare hands, I probably would have given up too lol

Diversity is not usually an issue, it's the inappropriate diversity box ticking that is a problem...
For example, if you have a solitary group of people that are all white but that one main character from that group is black for no reason other than diversity then you have messed up.
    Why are they there?
Take the "Not-Hobbits" on the show Rings of Power, a solitary group that wants nothing to do with outsiders. Yet... They are a very diverse group.
The main female protagonist Nori is whiter than a glass of milk and while her daddy is white, her mother is a person of colour.
Now this is not a problem if they lived somewhere like New York and socialised with the outside world but they don't, so where did the genetic diversity come from?
Do they meet with other "Not-Hobbits" and exchange mates during their migration?

Princess Leia didn't wait around to be rescued after she was kidnapped, she waited for her brother to cause a distraction and wrapped her chains around that fat slug's neck for hurting her man...
She took action when necessary and took charge when needed. She was a true female icon and someone for little geeky girls to admire and aspire to.
We also had Red Sonia, Ellen Ripley, Sara Connor, Lara Croft, Lindsey Brigman (The Abyss), and Barbarella, who are just a few examples of strong women written well.
Strong women have always been a part of Fantasy and Sci-Fi, and I find it very insulting when I see them tell me I should like the crap they are pumping out because there has never been any strong Wamen in these genres before...

Because it is probably very low budget. See Asmongold is wrong. Disney are making tons of money from this show. See the show is distributed by Disney, and showrunners pay to Disney for the brand and distribution. Disney do not care if the show is good or not. Money comes from private funds, which pay mostly for Disney name and network. Then they sell the fact their show is on Disney network. So people with the money do not really care about the show. This is relatively new business model, created for streaming platforms, but it is widespread now. That is why we get so many bad movies and shows.

I’m not a mega fan, I didn’t feel excluded, I just loved the great and diverse charaters; the world building and storytelling. I happily intoduced my son to Star Wars during the prequel years (we even went to see the prequels in theatre this year to celebrate that), and we’ve continued to share the universe through the highs and lows of the Disney content.

On the comment about male dominated genres and movies/shows that are made "specifically for men".
That's silly. Lord of the Rings was written by a man that focused on men. But both men and women enjoy it.
Blade was, according to Asmon, written for men. It targets men who enjoy the action-packed content of supernatural fights with guns and blood. But both men and women enjoy it.
The ISSUE is that a lot of these new writers are pushing an agenda way too hard. There's NOTHING wrong with adding women to shows/movies, and there's nothing wrong with adding characters with different sexualities. In fact, it should be encouraged, but not thrown so hard in our faces that it's obvious it was done intentionally rather than naturally.
They do not respect the original content, or the original stories. If they want to incorporate something new and creative to bring in a wider audience, you cannot beat down and rip apart the original so completely that even the blind can see the visual intention. I love Star Wars, I love Star Trek. Back in the day, men will claim they aren't shows/movies catered to women. But it's not about catering to a gender. It's about writing something that is enjoyable without spitting on the fanbase.

Asmon says he doesn’t care about lore as long as the story is good. This is an idiotic take on his part because lore is supposed to be world building which adds structure to the current events. History in real life is important to get right because if people change it at any given moment then it’ll be inconsistent. Very much in shows and movies if the lore isn’t consistent then it’ll make the show less appealing.
Amon’s ideology boils down to this. “I only eat burgers so I don’t care if the restaurant changes their menu, as long as they have burgers I’m happy” which isn’t bad on its own but then him saying he doesn’t care about lore is him saying “I don’t care if others don’t get what they want, as long as I get what I want then I’m happy”.

What if I'm racist against men of a certain race, particularly those of a certain nationality? Racist as in "just don't like them" with little logic as to why, their physical appearance and a stereotypical view of their behavior/mindset being the basis of this prejudice. Don't like seeing them with women not of their race even. Isn't that a problem? It is internal and doesn't affect (to my knowledge) how I treat such individuals. I've given guys like this the best advice I can offer, helped with their homework, gave my lunch to one guy because they didn't have any, etc. But the prejudice remains. I want them to be happy...*but*...there's often a caveat regarding them that no one else gets.

Never underestimate how the expense of the learning process scales up to the cost of the learning materials. Getting what you want in the storyboard stage - before you're actually spending huge amounts of money just to see what something looks like - as well as learning to tell whether today's urge to scrap the past week's worth of shooting and rewrite is genuinely justified... these are learned skills and they require having made movies ([Edit: or serialized television shows]) to acquire. Inexperience costs a lot.

Just like people don't have a problem with a black actor playing Blade or Shaft.
The real problem of today's entertainmant, in my opinion, isn't a so called culture war. It's franchise. Everything must be attached to a franchise, to a name known since at least the 80's.
And the result is that we have bastard children. Sometimes for the worst (Velma... It has nothing to do with Scooby Doo, it should have been its own thing. And then fail because it's terrible). Sometimes for the better (The movie Joker has pretty much nothing to do with the clown prince of crime. But it's a great movie nonetheless).
And because everything has to be tied with a franchise, creators will bend, distort, corrupt those existing franchises to fit what they want to tell. And it will create anger and frustration from the fans. And the creators will call it racism.

The authors' miserable writing, a story full of holes and nonsense so that the planned plot makes halfway sense, lousy direction, and wooden-looking actors-that's the problem.
