@@AprilynneAlter so far (I'm only part way through) the scriptwriting section and breaking down what the setup, tension and payoff sections actually contain with real examples 🎃
Just finished the whole video and I’d 100% say the scriptwriting section. My storytelling skills need work, and even though I don’t script my videos (I’m an entertainment channel), giving me this ability to breakdown certain sections like this was a real aha moment.
I mean am I wrong? 😉 Thank you so much for agreeing to be in the video, Paddy! Your section could've been an entire standalone video - so many gold nuggets!

The best thing I’ve seen lately. Everything is always clear, well-reasoned, structured, and easy to understand. Amazing work. Thank you. This is definitely the coolest channel. Wishing you strength!
I really liked the part at 1:17:25 where you showed us raw footage of filming yourself. Seeing a big creator having the same exact experience as me who is still at the early stages of UA-cam is really encouraging that this is normal and part of the process.
AHHHHH thank you so much!! I just feel so grateful that I'm able to provide this for all of you 💙 it's the type of video I wished I had a few years ago!
I just made a long form video that was about 6 minutes and it took AGES for me to edit. I've got so much respect for the time and effort you put in this video. I've had so much value from it :)
This is sooo awesome!!! The comparison of thumbnails to book covers really struck me. I used to be a cover designer/artist, and you're so 100% right. The mistake so many YTers make is the same as so many authors make, wanting to "show a scene" rather than "stop the scroll". And knowing your genre and trope expectations, etc, is how you sell books. But, just like YT, if the book doesn't deliver what the cover promises (it has man chest but it's not a romance, for example),.. That's how people click away or leave one-star reviews. I actually quit because one too many authors insisted on things I knew wouldn't work. Fun fact: if it's fantasy, get a dragon in there somehow, even if it's just someone's coat of arms, and for sci fi, spaceship ass is tried and true. 😂 I'm only that far in and loving this so much!! ❤❤❤
this is so insightful! there really are so many parallels - I think about that with different thumbnail styles as well. If a thumbnail looks like a video essay, but you click through and it's a podcast, the video doesn't deliver on the expectation that the thumbnail set
@@AprilynneAlter YES!! It definitely pays to study what style goes with which type of video. And, keeping with the parallels, maybe have a few basic types of thumbnails as templates for each content bucket. They'd have to be refreshed, but sometimes it's just nice to have somewhere to start. I used to have them for romance, sci fi, etc, along with specific lists of and folders with fonts and other basic assets for each genre and it's subs.

This was incredible-well done! It was super insightful. If there’s one thing I’d add to the conversation, it’s the importance of being authentic. These days, a lot of creators try to copy people like MrBeast or put on a persona to appeal to a bigger audience. While that might work for some, I’ve learned that being yourself is the best way to go. Being authentic helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level, and it’s easier to keep up with content when you’re not pretending to be someone you’re not. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take inspiration from others or try new things. Take creative risks, especially early on-it's totally fine to experiment and see what sticks. I’ve been open about my own influences, but now that I’ve found something I really enjoy and made it my own, creating content feels way more rewarding. And it seems like viewers can tell when you're being real and passionate about something-that’s what keeps them coming back. Thanks for making this! I’ll definitely be sharing it with my creator friends.
YESSS this is so, so huge!! my channel only started taking off (to the small degree that it has so far) once I found my own style of content that resonated for both me and my audience. In the long-term, nothing beats authenticity. Influences are important, especially in the early stages as you're discovering what's even possible and what you do and don't like. But after a certain point, real growth comes from finding the type of content that YOU can uniquely make
Colin and Samir did 13 years knowledge in 46 minutes. That’s around 3.5 minutes per year. But this, with 83 years in 2hr39, takes less than 2 minutes per year knowledge. So obviously better value here.

I love all the nuggets in this. I did have a request for your next video though, i don't know if it's just me but i find the jump cuts in and out and all over the place every 3 seconds while im trying to watch paddy talk extremely distracting. For shorts i can understand this because you're competing with short attention spans and 3 seconds is a long time is shorts land. But in long form, if im 16 minutes into the video it means I'm here and willing to watch for the long haul and i think jumpy edits all over the place make me want turn it off more than keep watching. Or maybe that's just me a bit fed up with this trend in general. Anyway, i can definitely appreciate all the hard work you put into this. It takes me a week to edit a 20 minute video, i can't imagine the effort required for 2.5hrs+ serious kudos and thanks for all that you do.

Thank you, this was really helpful. I struggle to find niche specific advice, so I loved the fact that you gave examples for different niches and how they differ.
It takes me a week to edit a 20 minute video, i can't imagine the effort required for 2.5hrs+ serious kudos and thanks for all that you do.
damn I was taking NOTES y'all!! Thank you for this enriching encouraging masterclass. And best of luck to everyone on their UA-cam journey, we got this 💪

this video is gonna blow up man good job!
Thank you so much 🥺
I would love to see you make a video about this video. This longer format seems to be "the shift" that UA-cam is pushing for and that UA-cam strategists are talking about. I would be curious to the see the analytical fruits of you labor here. Great work as always!
The analytics behind this video have been so fascinating so far - and it's only the first day! I'm so intrigued to see how it performs in the long run. Maybe I'll have to do a BTS breakdown sometime 👀

1:32:45 This comment is SO SO helpful. I was consistently uncertain whether to see it as positive or negative that I have a 4-6% overall CTR. I love my channel and the videos I’m making regardless, but it does help to see where I “rank” and what I should focus on improving!! Thank you, April!
Chris's section had so many insightful knowledge bombs!!
