Thanks Victor! Neither of MB2 and Windows MG3 are included in this first batch of Beta testing. But I really can’t say more because I don’t know, I am afraid. I would guess that the timeframe for the Windows MG3 Beta test is to some extent depending on the outcome of the Mac one, which makes it hard, since we are not sure what we will find to begin with.

First time I've seen this - downloaded trial version of MIDI Guitar2...blown away. How does one set it up in Ableton though? Definitely getting this version when it comes out. Amazing work!
Open the plugin version of MG2 on an AUDIO track, and then there are different way of working with this depending on if you are on a Mac or a PC. I haven't done any setups videos for this, so iit is probably best if you head on over to the MIDI Guitar 2 forum. There is a bunch of users on different systems, and most of the time you can get really good advice there. jamosapien.com

I can’t say at this point, I am afraid. Any testing I have done, and dare speak of, have been done on a Mac. For questions about any other systems or platforms you will have to consult the future update on the Beta signup page. Link in the video description.

Monophonic tracking sounds amazing and really clean! What about polyphonic playing three or more notes at the same time? How does it compare to the previous version? Great stuff!!

Monophonic? I am not using any Monophonic tracking. This is MPE tracking all the way, but some instruments may not be MPE (SWAM are monophonic or duophonic (strings)) nut still played with MPE presets. I can play chords with six notes in them 😀. I would call that a vast improvement! 👍
@@lofileif I mispoke. By monophonic I ment playing single note lines. I was wondering for example how well does it track simultaneously played notes. Like strumming three or more note chords?
No problem! It is a valid question about strumming, and the reason it is not in this video is because it was addressed rather late in the game. It is surprisingly good now, and I can strum six-note chords with ease with the right virtual instruments. Perhaps not all chords every time...because it is MIDI? But it is certainly an improvement. 👍
@@lofileif great to hear! I would not even use it so much for the real time playing. But let's say if I would use it to "program" more realistic feel by strumming some chords in a slower tempo(cause it probably tracks better if you play it slower). Now this version should probably do a very good job doing it like this I would suppose? Then you could just increase the tempo cause it's MIDI :) I could see myself using it to play my electric guitar with a good acoustic guitar vst to get more "realistic" guitar strumming feel. What do you think? And in the post you could also put the correct neck position in the vst or even preprogram automation to get the correct neck positions in real-time. Would be great to see you do something like this in one of your videos with pianoteq guitar! Love your channel. Learned a lot!! 👊
How is the tracking with ghost notes...?
I'm a bass player but I've never been able to find anything so I figured, I should find a guitar synth...
I don't have any problems with ghost notes whatsoever. But I am mostly playing improvised music and I have played this software for quite some time now. It will eventually come out as a demo, and I advise anyone with tracking questions to not base their opinions on my experience but instead wait until they get to try it for themselves. This software is also coming as a Bass version, but with polyphony limited to two notes being able to be played simultaneously. I am pretty certain you will be pleasantly surprised. It is not just the tracker that is updated, but everything has got a complete overhaul. The first thing to be tested is the MacOS version, and after that comes iOS and Windows. So , yes there will be an iPad version as well. 👍
Hi, is there a way to convert an already recorded guitar performance in to midi with this software?
Yes, of course! Just make sure to use as clean recordings as possible. Any reverb or room sounds interfer with the MIDI conversion.

Yes, If you buy (or already have purchased) any of the desktop versions (Mac or PC) of MG2 you are getting MG3 for free as soon as it is being released. This does not apply to previous iPad or Garabandversions,, of course.

If you are asking about the price/deal for the upgrade from MIDI Guitar 2 to MIDI Guitar 3, it is free for any existing license holder. If you have purchased the full version of MG2 at some point, you will get MG3 for free. That is the JamOrigin deal! Pretty good, I would say.

As far as I have understood, it is coming as AUv3 for iPad. But you need to confirm with JamOrigin, of course! 👍
Hello Lief, from your experience, do you feel performance with the limited 7-bit resolution on the TEC controller would be meaningfully improved by a higher resolution like 14-bit MIDI or 32-bit MIDI 2.0. Also, can you tell if the MIDI implementation on MIDI Guitar 3 allows for 14-bit MIDI or are the controllable parameters in MG3 compatible with relative (+/-) controllers?
Hi! I havent felt any such limitations really! The limitations I know of and can notice are in the virtual instruments, most often. I guess there could be some cases with some physically modeled instruments where the CC info is actually the culprit, but none that I know of. I belive MG3 is developed with MIDI 2.0 in mind. Not sure that it would work as it is right now, but I know the developer have mentioned it at some points. I am going to have to get back to you have n this, I am afraid.
@@lofileifI should have looked at the TEC specs closer - it has MIDI pitchbend assignable for each of the sensors and this can be mapped to control any parameter that accommodates higher resolution (using ReaLearn in Reaper for example) as a work-around for 14-bit CC or MIDI2.0.
Hello LoFiLeif! Currently MIDI Guitar 2 is unable to have Bends enabled AND Legato enabled at the same time. I'd love love love to have the ability for this. I understand it's probably a tricky nuanced thing for the software to tell between a bend and a slide. Does MIDI Guitar 3 allow this??
Also, MG2 has trouble keeping up with fast tremolo picking, has that been improved as well?
Hi there @rocknrory! I have always considered this inability to use bends AND legato, together, a flaw in MIDI Guitar 2. So much so, that I stopped using legato a long time ago. Bends are essential, legato is not, in my book. It wasn’t until really recent I learned that this is a problem more connected with the MIDI 1.0 protocol than anything else. It is not a MG2 thing.
But if we set that aside, it is not going to be an issue in MG3. Don’t have any dedicated legato setting. If you want partial overlap, you will use the SUSTAIN module with its piano sustain function, with a setting for how long you want the overlap to be. Pitch bend is another thing when we send it with every note, on separate MIDI channels, as we do with MPE.
I don’t think you will outpick MG3. Tracking is really fast, if you pick clean. 👍
@@lofileif I prefer bends over legato too. That said, slides are pretty important, esp when using with synths. Having a note retrigger when you don’t want it is less than ideal!
Eventually when MIDI 2.0 is implemented, I imagine this will be a great benefit then!
On the topic of enabling sustain to achieve proper slides between notes, would this compromise bending or multi staccato playing? If it doesn’t, that’s next level. Of course the goal is to convert full guitar expression, articulation, into MIDI with no compromises. That’s the dream!

@rocknrory I don’t know why you want to involve legato, when talking about slides? Slides and bends are two aspects pitch bend information. You can use a slide on your guitar with MG3, and it will sound as a slide. You bend a note or use vibrato. All is pitch bend, and all are guitaristic expressions or gestures availible in MG3. You might have notes retrigger if you set your pitch bend range to low. But anything above 24 guarantees the full range of a guitar neck.
Looking forward to this! Couple of questions, well 3! Are they having a 6 input plugin for hexaphonic GK style pick up outputs? Is the tracking any faster? Finally is there going to be an IOS midi guitar 3 as well as a desktop?
Hi John! 1) There is no hexPU tracker alternative in MG3 at the time of release for beta testing. We have tried it, and it worked, but we need more time to make it work great. 2) Tracking is way faster, more accurate, and allow for polyphonic bends (MPE). 3) Yes, of course there will be an iOS version too. It is not being tested in the first round of beta testing though. 👍
@@lofileif tracking and speed is the main development for me especially for single note lines. Polyphony was always quite a bit slower on MG2, TriplePlay and the recent Boss GM800 are much better in that regard. Million dollar question is… when? Are you looking at a simultaneous release of IOS and desktop plugin?
So, first is the release of the alpha/beta versions of MG3 (for Mac), and then, at a later point comes the iOS and PC versions. I can only guess, but I think it is a strategy to cope with the incoming feedback reasonably. JamOrigin is essentially a one-man operation, let's not forget. I try to help with videos and feedback but it is really a very small part. I am in no position to give anyone a solid date because I don't know myself. I'll tell you as soon as I know, of course.

Are certain guitars better than others? Like is it better to avoid cheaper ones? Or certain models tend to work better? Anything like that?
Going by was has been the best choice for MG2, solid body guitars with bright humbucker pickups have been succesful. But a lot of guitars work perfectly fine. Haven’t heard of any correlation between price of guitar and tracking, though. Of course a cheaper instrument might be more likely to have dead notes and string buzz and stuff, which of course would matter. But you should probably go with what you got, and try the demos to begin with. 👍

There aren’t any such certainties in life whatsoever. For me to able to say something with 100 percent certainty, it must have already happened. I don’t get any ”not-to-be-mentioned information”, and think of what it would mean if I did? I couldn’t say anything anyway. This has been seven years in the making, and as an outside bystander (I am not JamOrigin), I can only beg of you to be patient for just a little longer.

Hi, i was wondering, i ve the mg2 and cant use it inside cubase 12 with the tce breath controller. Does mg3 enable being used with it?
Hi! I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do that. I can use all my incoming controllers in MG3, where I could use only one at a time with MG2. But I don't use Cubase, and I haven't heard of anyone else with that problem. How was it , that you could not use the breath controller?

With the piano i managed to use the tce.

Tce? Is it the TEControl breathcontroller? Not every DAW allows for you to pass on MIDI from an AUDIO track. And you open the MG2 plugin on an audio track. Unless you are trying to control an instrument opened inside MG2 (on the Audio track), you should let Cubase take care of the breath controller MIDI data. Is the instrument you are trying to control on a separate Instrument track in Cubase, or is it inside MG2?

It is free! Buy it when you like, if you like. If you want to wait for v3, you can do that, or if you feel like aquainting yourself with the software and take part of the beta testing (Mac first and PC in the next batch), you can do that. 👍

Do we have an idea of how much latency it'll take to convert Audio from guitar to midi?
Not yet! It is faster, but by how much I don’t know yet. Sorry! Some parts of the video have actual pick noises alongside the sounding triggered MIDI instruments. There you hear it is very little latency.
@@lofileif I wonder how well it will compare to my Jamstick Studio?the latency is almost inconceivable, But I am excited to Beta test this, hopefully there is not many ghost notes as well :D
@samuelallenmusic I am also very interested to see how it measures up to the Jamstick trackingwise. My gut instinct tells me this is going to be more dynamic and responsive, but that is of course only speculation. Please let me know as soon as you have had the chance to compare properly?

When are you making an hardware version of it ?
Just a box running you guitar midi 3 with a "guitar in" socket and all kind of midi out.
Without having to bring a whole Computer at the Gig.
I have not heard of any such plans. And what is the difference really, if you consider you can use an iPad or an iPhone instead somewhere down the line? The software solution gives everybody the option of choosing what suits them best. And what about that box? How is that not a computer too, in any sense of the word. If it is o be upgradable and you should be able to use any of your third party vst instruments. Personally (and I am not JamOrigin myself) I find the old hardware setup archaic and cumbersome. If I suddenly want to add a Michale Brecker chord rotator setup, or a Instant micro retuning of a select set of plugins I don't see how I would do that with less than creating that on a computer and downloading perhaps ready to play presets to something like a MG3 patch player, and that might be an idea for a future product. But there is no such thing on the horizon yet.

They often play their hardware keyboards in live shows and not only controllers plugged to a computer running mainstage. Not everyone. Many but not all.
And no. A box with a computer inside running one only application is not the same as a phone cell or a ipad with many apps inside ... and maybe would have better plugs and not those mini jacks or micro usb connectors.
A bunch of regular 6mm jacks would seem more solid to me.

Little dedicated boxes, nowdays, can also have a usb plug to update the firmware. But a simple guitar-to-midi box would be straight and simple.

If the iOS version is like the desktop version in that it is possible to choose whether each instrument should ”be” MPE or legacy MIDI 1.0, it will probably be possible to choose a specific MIDI channel on a per-instrument-basis. But for MPE instruments that distiction doesn’t make sense. It uses all but one channels for note/expression values.( 2-16 or 1-15 most commonly. )

@chrisroyer Beta testing is determining release. There is no date set. Don’t know how big it will be, check with JamOrigin. And of course you will be able to record polyphonic bends and audio on two separate tracks simultaneosly.

@@lofileif it's weird you went mac first. you must be a mac guy i take it. A lot of stuff is just not working on mac since their new chip updates. I know most video game companies are not making games available to be played on mac anymore. Music production still going strong on mac for the time being i guess. I know Reaper Blog uses mac still too. I guess i'll be waiting.
You must not confuse me with the developer that is JamOrigin. I am indeed a Mac guy, but I have no say in anything that is related to what and how stuff is being released, on what platform and in what order.
I have what should be fairly simple question. How do I plug in an electric guitar and make it sound like an acoustic guitar with this product? The competition GR-55 and GP-10 make a signal before sending to a DAW, but with your product, if I understand it right, I send signal as Midi the DAW and MidiGuitar 3 to convert to acoustic. Can you show how? and show it tracking more than a single like, like a fingerpicking blues piece with bass and melody? Does MidiGuitar 3 have same tracking issues as MidiGuitar2?

26th of february, no MIDI Guitar 3 yet. Jam origin page annoucement : "MIDI GUITAR 3 beta-testing will roll out in February 2024!" WILL IT EVER COME ? Don't say or write about things that do not happen please, matter of respect. Waiting for years...
Yes. I too hope that JamOrigin gets this out in February still. I am working on an intro video to accompany the rollout of the beta test start. But you know, even if JamOrigin decides to do otherwise, it is their decision. It is their product, and they do what they believe is best for that product. I am just helping out with information about this. Respect my work here, to begin with.

I have been doing this pro bono for so long now, and still I have people holding me responsible for their feeling of not being respected. Why is that, do you think? And why should you take it upon yourself to dictate the terms for what I can say or write about?
Midi guitar 2.0 does not track very well at all... The main reason why I pretty much don't use it. Beware online demos. I hope this version is an improvement.
Well, I can only say that I got MIDI Guitar 2 to track pretty decent for me. I did however feel much the same thing as you, the first time around I tried it. I put it down for a year and got back to it, and realized most of the issues I experienced were issues I could remedy or mitigate with some practice. Once I started viewing the software together with my guitar as a completely new instrument, and learned to play it on its own terms I was hooked. And a few of these online demos you see of MIDI guitar 2 and 3 are probably mine, so...

Watching the video and listening to the audio it’s not tracking well at all. A majority of the notes being played are never recognized and played.
Perhaps it’s because the people playing had no idea how to work with it, and overplayed, but I’m not impressed.
So, to begin with, a healthy dose of skepticism with regards to promotional material is a good thing. But let me assure you, as this is my channel, me playing my preferred note choices, there is hardly ANY notes played that is not recognized here.
