- JamOrigin's MIDI Guitar 3 comes with a whole arsenal of MIDI Machines, which can be seen as extra functionality add-ons.
In this video, we take a first look at the Looper, the Sequencer, the Shredder, and the Arpeggiator.
They are all MIDI recorders, players, or modifiers with a relationship to the new transport play button function, also explained here.
The focus is on the MIDI machines’ interfaces, functions, and connective possibilities.

Awesome potential and great demo! I hope version 3 comes soon to iOS and windows
Thanks Alex. I hope so too! 👍
A sequencer for the rhythm and a different one for the notes, you’ve done it my friend. Well done
I wish I would have thought to explain it like that! Thanks👍
Great new machine additions. Can't wait for the ipad edition release. Thanks as always for your great videos and playing!
Thank you Jim! I hope you can get to use it soon enough. 👍
Simply fantastic! Thank you for this video!😀
Thanks! Just checked out your video on the Deep Expressor. Super! 👏👏👏
Excellent!
Please bring the windows version! This looks epic.
MidiGuitar 2 is one of those apps I can't understand why it's not on absolutely everybody's computer. MG3 will be even more so.
The windows version will come, of course. But JamOrigin has decided to try to make the software as stable and bug-free they can, one platform at a time. And I believe this is a wise decision.
I agree! I can't see why this isn't in every guitar player's arsenal already, or at least on their "next-app-wishlist".The best we can hope for is a word-of-mouth movement, but if all else fails, I still have some smoke and mirrors together with some neon lights safely tucked away somewhere that I might have to use. 😀👍
Just amazing!
There is so much more too 😃👍
Thank you very much!
I would love to see an ”I use these xpression pedals, breath controllers etc…and this how I do it with mg3”…just for inspiration 😊
Thank you! I have my pedals and breathcontroller featured in a couple of videos already, but I guess those aren’t MG3 specific, so I’ll see what I get time for. 👍 ua-cam.com/video/fnj5Q_kjpdM/v-deo.htmlsi=MTjv4-rbE4-Rxjne

Pretty awesome! Looking forward to the windows version!
Yeah, I don't have a date for that, but it is coming. There are a lot of Windows users out there asking for this now! 👍
Great promosing product
Thanks! I think so too! 😀👍
I'm going to start playing with this. Let's see if a flamenco guitarist can make something cool with MG. :)
Well! Your finger picking skills should be excellent with it, but the rasgueados can be a bit too much for the tracker (is my guess) 😀👍
@@lofileif - will let you know 😁
We're all waiting, when will it come out. BTW Leif, you are amazing!!!
Thanks Gilbert! 🙏🙏🙏 You know, I am just making videos, showing you guys buttons and stuff. If you want to know about the release of the software, please check out the beta page for all available information and news about the status of development process. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
Not the prettiest gui, but I been using version 2 a lot, it's great! Looking forward to this.
Ok! Any suggestions for improvements are of course welcomed by the developer. The MIDI Guitar forum is open for everyone to help out or weigh in on stuff. 👍jamosapien.com/latest
Shredder !
Yeah. A simple but really versatile MIDI Machine. 👍
Downloaded the trial will try with my Ibanez AK105SM and StudioLive AR8c Analog Mixer....
I did not think there was a public trial out yet for MG3? Did you have the MG2 from before, and are talking about the beta version?
@@lofileifyes, only the MG2..
Hi.
Great video as always !
And great playing too!
A question about the looper: is it recording only midi data or is it recording sounds ?
I'd use a midi looper to "guide" my arranger, to give to it the chords sequence to play and, once i recorded the loop, being free to play melodies over that.
The arranger only needs incoming midi chordos that will be played through different styles variations, using the arranger's fill-in, fill-out, intros, ending and so on... so i don't need looped sound but only chords sequences in midi data format to drive my Ketron Midjay.
Sync tempo between the two machines and have some pedal control to start-stop record and playback and, maybe, switch from an "A" and a "B" recorded chord sequence.
Hi Francesco! Thanks! The looper is recording MIDI (no audio), and I believe it might be getting a little work done to also start recoding triggered by the first sound, right now. With that feature it would make it even better for your use with an (external?) arranger too. Since we can use 3 separate MIDI OUTs (one per chain) you can effectively feed just the loop MIDI to your arranger on its own track if you like. But since this is work in progress right now, I will have to come back to you on the possibilities with a little later, if it is ok?
@@lofileif it would be great !
Is the looper function a new feature for GM3 or it was already available on GM2 ?
Looking forward to it being available on windows
Yep! Follow the beta page for any news about development in the testing. 👍www.jamorigin.com/beta/
Great demo, thanks.
I have the 3.0.42 beta. Everything is working fine on my M1. The sequencer and shredder are working, but I can't find the looper. Any idea when we will be able to beta test it?
Hi Robert! The Looper is new for the 3.0.43 version that came out this morning. Also, there are some changes done to the Scale filtering that might be interesting. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
@@lofileif Thanks. I'll be up all night again. 😂
@robertgwatts1858 Sorry about that! 😉👍
Cool, thanks! When is MG3 coming out? Question: polyphonic bending isn’t available in MG2 but will be in MG3, right?

@@lofileif Very cool… I’m really considering the purchase as soon as MG3’s stable version is out, especially considering the bundle that includes Midi Bass… Question: if I import a bass audio track that I’ve already recorded into Logic and run it through Midi Bass, will it be analyzed and translated into midi as it would in real time?
@chrisroyer Of course. Use a clean recording with no effects like reverb or anything and you get great results.
@@lofileif Thank you, that’s fantastic news. Can’t wait for the MG3 release! : )
Love MG2 and so far what I’m seeing in MG3. But for the life of me, I can’t get the looper to play back. I’m in MG3 standalone. I know the setup with my audiobox is correct, because I’m able to drop VSTi instruments into modules and control them with my guitar. The looper appears to be recording - it’s showing recording marks inside the spinning spiral when I play notes and chords. But as soon as I turn off the looper record button, I just get silence. Any thoughts?
I just replied to you on the forum. I find it easier to discuss things there, since we can use sceencaps as well. But I guess it has to do with you having to actively press play to have the Looper play back the recorded material. See you on the forum if that is ok?
Does the Looper have "auto-sensing" so it starts automatically recording when you actually begin playing?
No, the Looper recording has to be manually started.
@@lofileif Wow, that's shocking! I use a free old Mobius 8-Track Software Looper on my Windows PC, and there's a way to set the "sensitivity" so when "armed" it starts recording when I start playing. A Looper is so much easier to use with it. I hope MIDI Guitar 3 will add that capability. Thanks
@picksalot1 You are welcome to suggest improvements on the MIDI Guitar forum 🤝 jamosapien.com
@@lofileif Thanks for letting me know about that.👍
Is Roy Marchbank using this? Because he needs to ASAP
I believe Roy uses this. At least I know he uses MG2 ua-cam.com/video/hhfk_I8cggk/v-deo.htmlsi=taaNsxulRrZr67m5&t=52
@@lofileif 🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥 Indeed! Roy is a beast!
@@lofileif it's so nice to have a convo like this every once in a while.
Also I'm definitely going to use this technology for double neck instruments as well. I'm no Roy but I can play a tiny bit 🔥🔥🔥
There's some work to be done with MG3 to make it more coherent with the DAWs workflow. I mostly use MIDI Guitar as a controller and edit MIDI notes afterward inside the DAW. But now I have to load it into the DAW as an audio effect, which is not helpful.
Well, you can always use MG3 in standalone mode and just use the" MIDI Guitar MINI" preset, and you don't have to add anything in your DAW. I don't know what kind of coherence you are looking for, but MG3 converting AUDIO to MIDI and thus needs to be opened on an AUDIO track when used as plugin. But try the standalone setup, and see if you find it less disruptive.
@@lofileif Hi, I was used to the midi guitar 2 being visible as a midi controller, I would normally send the mid output of MG2 to a virtual midi loopback (usually IAC driver bus 1 in mac) and it worked seamlessly. But couldn't really figure out to setup the old settings in mg3. I'll try that option of Midi Guitar Mini preset and let you know. Thanks!
@Paulo-ut1li It should be exactly the same as with MG2. Just make sure you have a MIDI OUT module in the patch, and you should be good to go. But if it doesn’t work, check with the guys on the forum. I am a MAC guy so I haven’t had to bother with loopback and stuff. jamosapien.com
How do u feel about the VG99 in 2024
Yeah, it is still the best Roland tool I have. But the MIDI conversion isn’t good enough, and to be fair, I haven’t used it in years. It is sad, really, because unlike the GR-55 I really liked the VG99.
@@lofileif what makes it better above others?
I don't know. It was a personal thing a that time. I liked the design with the ribbon controller, and well it worked with my FC 300. It felt solid and well thought out. But again, it was some seven or eight years ago since I actually used it. I purchased the GR55 to get better "real instrument" sounds, but that was a huge letdown, since it played like a brick. Imo real dynamics or chance at emulating a real instrument. I had high hopes for the GP10, but again, the sounds were noisy and undynamic. I have also had a VG88 (best acoustic guitar sounds of them all) and a GR33, which I actually liked a lot, but the VG99 was both sturdier then the GR33 and more lightweight than the VG88, so the VG99 still comes out a winner when I compare them today. With that said, NONE of these have any of the capabilities you get from the software solution, MIDI Guitar 3. It is as lightweight as your computer/laptop is, and you can use the BEST vst plugin instruments on the market, with it,, giving you access not only to the restricted sonic realm of whatever Roland decides to offer. Be it some Roland cloud service with add-on purchases or subscriptions attached. Plus the fact that you don't need any noisy crappy 13pin cables, and remain at the mercy of Roland being kind enough to keep providing new drivers for any and every OS updates. No more hardware for me. But, again, that is my personal opinion. 👍
@@lofileif I understand what your saying but I just really don't like setup MPE and all those gestures and I'd preferably want to integrate everything into my pedalboard ya know
@boimesa8190 To each his own! 👍 But MPE isn’t as much about additional gestures (I presume you are thinking of SLIDE and LIFT perhaps?). It is more about the difference in how you can play your virtual instruments. If you are going to play software guitars, basses or any polyphonic strings really, MPE and polyphonic bends are the thing that makes this realistic. But you can still model instruments without MIDI, and those are good too.
Subbed. Hope it helps!
Every little thing helps a channel like this. Thank you, it is much appreciated. 🙏🙏🙏
whats that in your mouth and do i need one for this to work?
It is a breathcontroller, and no, you don’t need one to play MIDI Guitar2/3. It is like an expressionpedal, just a controller. MIDI Guitar 2 and the TEControl BBC2 Breath controller - explaining that mouth thing
ua-cam.com/video/fnj5Q_kjpdM/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for the videos. They sound really great. Is it possible for Midi Guitar 3 to be the Midi input device in Guitar Pro 8? As the soft acoustic guitar in the last video showed the fingering, I thought it might be able to do it. In any case, I am looking forward to it being available😊
Well , it is somewhat problematic with traditional guitar notation and MIDI Guitar 2 or 3. (The problem is the same) This software doesn't register where you play a certain pitch, and thus will any inputting of MIDI to Sheet or Tab render pretty poor starting points. There is generally too much fixing that needs to be done afterward for me to get excited about such a solution. But all is not said on that subject yet. I know there is work being done to improve on this, so let's see what the future holds. 👍
