Good day Sam. Those ruts are going to be with you for a long time. Hard to get rid of in wet areas, water collects in them and takes a lot longer to dry out if ever. Good luck!
@bradleykuechle7586 Thank you! I smoothed them out the best I could. I may need to get a roller at some point. If it dries out a but more, I could even track them out with the excavator. Eventually, I'm going to dig all of that out to form the pond 🤠👍
Keep an eye out for a walk behind brush cutter. That would be perfect for that job, they are light weight and pretty powerful. You might even be able to rent one from somewhere. Take care
Ive used one of those with wheels out to the side on tall vertical legs (for want of a better description) It certainly worked well on a field full of bracken and bramble.
I like the way you go about doing a job and also you would be very surprised how many guys with tractors the same or similar that don’t know about the trick of self recovery with the front bucket or using a post and canvas sling around your rear drive wheel if you don’t have anything else to pull you out 🏴👍🏻
@ewanstewart8011 Thank you! Everyone can learn. I didn't know about the post and canvas sling until I read your comment. I also have a 3k lb winch mounted to a 2" receiver so I can hook and pull if need be 🤠👍
My neighbor has a pond with a lot of cat tails around it. He borrows my DR brush mower once a year and mows them down. Funny it always comes home with something broken on it.
@@robertzapatka1082 Isn't that the way it always goes? I'd much rather do something for someone than lend them a tool. I may rent one of those brush cutters to finish it off 🤠👍
I don't have a rotary cutter or a flail mower, but for what I do the flail mower would be great if I could afford one....I try not to get to crazy mowing anything because I don't want to tear up the mid mount mower, which isn't made for that type of heavy cutting anyhow, its a lawnmower deck.....I mow a pasture for a lady a couple times a year, and even then I hate doing it with the mid mount mower. I keep hoping things will straighten out financially so I can order a flail mower sooner than later. These BX tractors are great for their size, although still pretty heavy so getting stuck is of course an issue in some situations. I have the 60" deck on my BX2680, it works great for mowing duties around home, but for mowing heavy, thick grass/weeds it'll bog the tractor down if you aren't paying attention. I've cut down weeds 3-4 feet tall, that mower will do it, you just gotta go slow and make a couple passes....although in the manual it says to not run the mower in the raised position, I'm not sure why that would be, but I'll take it down to the 4 setting for the tall stuff, get it all knocked down then I'll usually go to the 3.5 setting and go back over it for a better, cleaner finished look. A Flail mower is definitely on my list though, and possibly a sickle bar mower to cut ditch banks.
@wildbill23c I really want a flail mower but I want to wait till I get a bigger tractor so I can run it offset to do creeksides and ditches. I also ran the mower on the 4 setting. I think if it's raised all the way, things might rub. It was the best tool for the job considering what I have. I might rent a walk-behind bush cutter to finish it off 🤠👍
I am sure you have a way figured out to mow this every now and then, but a Billy Goat brush mower that you walk behind is perfect for that and next time you use a weed eater for that try one of the high tooth count blades like the 30 tooth blade made for wood, those are great. The problem with the brush blade on a string trimmer is the tall stuff just loves to wrap around the blade hub and bog the trimmer down. I understand why you stopped, it gets very physical very quickly.
@ohhpaul7364 Thank you! I thought about renting something like that. Once it's all mowed and dries out, I should be able to maintain it. You're absolutely right, the trimmer was exhausting 🤠👍
Nice video and I appreciate the disclaimer of do it at you own risk. I often venture into areas that are probably unadvised, but I understand that I am taking a risk. Nice video. -Tod
Little underdrain and a 48" ibeam in the thumb of the excavator would get rid of the wetness and shape a nice mowable swail. Likely on the list when the pond construction starts😊
@@willowknollhomestead206 Thank you! My "MO" right now is to get everything clear and dried up as much as possible. The creek is doing a phenomenal job of facilitating that. I may try to shape the creek banks if it dries out enough. Next year will hopefully be digging the pond 🤠👍
I have a 4ft bush hog I run with my bx and have a low wet spot I just back it in to the grass until it gets wet and your right now that sun light and air can get to it it will dry a lot faster!
Just got a ZT that needed work. Got it running and do like better than the BX to cut the lawn. Drive belt jumped off so BX to the rescue. I would like a flail attachment but the mid mount has cut high weeds and 1/4” saplings.
Yes, on my RK24, it doesn't matter if I am using the mid mount, rear mower or tiller, I always engage the PTO with lower engine speed, then increase the engine speed once the attachment is running. I do the same with my riding lawnmower! 😊
Everyone keeps talking about walk behind brush cutters being the ticket. I think your whole point is doing it with ease. I have a lagoon and I can only get so close without slipping off. Technically if money was no option, I would go buy an offset flail mower for my 25 hp. TYM with 55 hours on it after 2 years. I'm not spending $3 to $4k for something that will be used that little. Twice a year I take a 20# BBQ propane tank with a weed burner on it and it burns everything to dirt. You may be intimidated; I know I was because I also have evergreen bushes the size of trucks on the bank of the lagoon that would go up in mere seconds. I pick a day the wind is in my favor, spray the bushes with water and then burn baby burn. about an hour is all it takes. I've been doing it for 20+ years and the weeds, grass, saw grass and whatever else is in there never get more than waist high by about 3' wide. In your case if you did it once it looks like you could stay ahead of it with the zero turn.
@@johnpyle8027 Thank you! I honestly never considered burning it. It's down to about a 50'x50' area now. Super soupy, its all kinda gloopy, but I won't be glum cat tails poke my bum, I'll still get the big job done (super trouper ABBA) silly aside the kubota system is really well set up for a small tractor, I imagine if you angle the bucket up a little bit you could gradually flatten the cat tails without pulling stuff out with the bucket teeth I would think the wheels digging in would be a bad thing for the mower too I'm surprised you got bogged down so many times where you were weedwhacking compared to where the cattails were. unless that is where the cattails were lol Thanks for sharing

One suggestion. Engage your PTO at just above idle. It will greatly extend the life of your PTO clutch, which is an ery expensive repair on a BX.
