great video again guys. 2 things, if your gonna do DIY or any project with stuff hanging over water then have something underneath just in case to catch bits and tools that inevitably drop off, your tender underneath the outboard as an example, too many times have I lost stuff and heard that plop watching said offending bit sink to the bottom of many a marina. secondly, with regard to rot on wood treat it like metal if you wanna find out if there's rot, the old wheel tappers(heavy goods inspectors and engineers) used to put a screwdriver tip down onto metal and put their ear onto the handle and tap the metal with a hammer and listen to the sound, where there was a crack in the metal the sound changed, this works with hardwoods and other materials any rot will be noticeable by duller sounds. Plus if you ever get the chance fashion a length of scaffolding pipe to fit your tiller housing, for if one day your tiller does snap (it happens and has happened ) you have a quick change method which can be used as a lever or something else( horny neighbor anti approaching tool perhaps? you say Nutella I say he's horny lol) excited to see the next episode and your handsome neighbor lol. ps I don't think you're posh either and the guy that slated you doesn't have a clue about just how much this costs. laters guys

Here is a tip try Olympic brand siding and deck cleaner to clean mildew from out side of your fiberglass boat . I use it on my boat every spring after I remove winter cover
As an addition to the motorcycle inner tube, I suggested regarding the winch to mast mounting in your last video, also go shopping and buy a pushbike inner tube (velo) or get a broken one that has been thrown away from the pushbike shop. With very careful cutting with a sharp pair of scissors (Swiss army knife), you can very carefully make a float chamber gasket.
You two are just brilliant every day a different challenge and you get it done explaining what it is you’re doing great filming great entertainment well done sure your mums are very proud and your dads of course but pubs are closed so no one too tell lol 😂
It's a good idea to rub down with sandpaper that part of the tiller that is discoloured until you have clean wood and re-varnish with many coats, maybe 5 or 6 EDIT But make sure the bolt holes are clear.
Won’t be anything left to fix soon keep at it 👌. One job may be worth doing as you have been in rivers is cleaning out the heat exchanger on the beta in prep for moving on.
just a little tip on carb float bowl never use grease on the casket paint both sides with an acrylic paint let it dry to re use till the new one comes in

Tiller looks fine. Try poking the blade of a pen knife, or a screwdriver into it. If it's rotten, it will be soft and squishy. Until you get a new gasket for that float chamber, if you have any instant gasket on board, a wee smear either side of the existing gasket might help seal it better. You guys seem to be coping well with the lockdown malarkey. My boat's getting some much needed TLC varnish and paint since I can't go sailing....
When you cleaned the fuel tank, I noticed that the retaining spring (V-shaped) that holds the filler cap to the tank is very rusty and flakey. If this is not cleaned and painted will cause more rust particles to fall into the tank and make their way to the main jet.
Oh the usual "you have a boat, you're rich, your parents are rich, find a real job" kind of message. We usually have at least one or two of those each stream. It's the combination of two old stereotypes : only rich people can afford having a boat and creating content is not real work... As we always say : if I spend more than 8 hours a day on it... it's work! Not everyone sees the hard work that goes behind content creation. Keep up the great work guys you are great at what you do!
hi, if you decide to redo your electrical circuit in the mast, especially make sure to attach the cables inside because otherwise you will have an incessant and very unpleasant noise especially when you are at anchor. it's so much easier to do when the mast is horizontal. Bonne continuation ;-)

Careful how much grease you lag on stuff, some times putting too much on can cause muck and grit to get stuck where you don't want it. Stay safe during lockdown and look fwd to when you can set off again (unless, of course your rich parents land their private helicopter on your helicopter deck and fly you off to grand caymen for a bit of a break whilst the servants finish fixing your boat for you :-) )

I'd make it a priority to get the leg off and inspect/replace the impeller. It's an easier job than striping the carb especially since it has no gears. I drop the legs on my outboards yearly just to ensure that the driveshafts don't seize into the crank. On my 4hp Yamaha (with gears) I can pull the leg off in about 4 minutes

Well owner said it crossed the Atlantic . I also have a trailer for it. I believe it has it original trailer. I checked the trailer manufacture plate. It says Lymington . Trailer is actually in great shape . Hmmmmm. Has split rims and tires are 12 ply. I will buy a different set of rims and tires. Hmmm I don’t know if owner was telling a story about it crossing . Interesting how I got a English trailer here. Well I don’t know learning . Like you, he didn't have much money to play with and had to "make do and mend" which I think is one of several reasons I enjoy your channel so much. Also at first his boats were in Bangor where you bought yours! I remember sailing the menai straits as you did. Then we moved to Devon and his boat was either moored in Plymouth or Newton Ferris to the east, where you also sailed - that was also a great pleasure to watch you sailing the same waters. Although an engineer, he finished his working life as a yacht broker in Plymouth because he loved being around boats so much. He wanted to sail to France and the scily isles, but never did - but you have! I live in North Cornwall now having spent many years living in London and working for a homelessness charity. I have health problems and no money, so I will never sail except vicariously through you. I think you are both utterly charming, down to earth, resilient and doing something wonderful. I wish all good fortune and will follow you every nautical mile. Nick.

Gearbox bearings are fussy in those little outboard motors, best to change the oil fairly often as water gets into it from the pump above and through the prop shaft seal. Gear oil, 85 to 140w. Try not to turn the prop backwards cos the impeller blades have to get flipped backwards in their housing when you do that and it can cause cracks in the rubber and then they break and bits clog the water passages in the engine yuk.
Can you do me a favor please??? i need to know the dimensions of the spring that seats inside the leg.. the one that is responsible for the tension needed to turn the outboard, it is on the opposite side of the greasing nipple, my previous owner lost it, be careful it might pop out.. Thank you
how do you know wood is rotten ? well, first when you'll see the rotten part it will be too late, usually wood rottens from the inside to the outside, following micro-cracks, so you can not just trust what you see. You have to (gently) hit it with a small hammer, if there is rot, the sound of the hit will be different in the spot that is rotting. If the rot has reached the surface (under the varnish), the point of knife should get into it fas if it was butter. I myself broke a rotten tiller on my sail boat some years ago while i was turning back to port, loosing the use of the tiller (for what ever reason) is something any one may face one day, and depending from where you are can be from disturbing to dramatic.
Mate you need to put out your full address during this lockdown so people can Amazon stuff to you. Iwill start with some paint brushes that was f×××××g painful to watch you paint the hatch last vid 😉
The shaft, pump, impellor, gearbox probably need a greasing. * Not sure if you have a service manual. Never use a split pin twice unless it is an emergency. Replace the fuel cap retainer clip, the particles of rust from it will find their way into the carb. A can of carb cleaner or brake cleaner is useful for lots of jobs. Don't use WD-40. Although everyone finds uses for it the real use is for displacing water and damp on ignitions. General cleaning too but it does leave a residue when it dries. * This one? www.manualslib.com/manual/827158/Yamaha-F2-5a.html There are plenty of others.
I'm sure the cap is fine but it's the bent wire that stops you losing it that is rusty. Make a new one from a wire coat hanger, they are often galvanised if you look around.
Neat Glycol anti freeze onto wood if you want to stop rot. It soaks straight through paint and varnish and oil finishes btw just to give you some idea of how porous those surfaces are, it won't soak through epoxy and polyester.
Did you fix your gasket? You can try cutting one out of cardboard, using the old one as a template, then grease the cardboard before fitting. A real cheapskate solution!

Find a log and cut out a spare tiller, and get spare impellers for the engines, you don't want to be without motoring behind God's back with a broken impeller!
how to check for rotten wood . drive the point/pinch on your pocket knife into the wood and if it gets more than 2-3 mm in you have an isue that will develop over time and get worse , you will get the hang off it when you have tried it a few times ,good luck developing your new skill :-)

That tiller looks fine. To test for rot dig a penknife into the wood. Rotten wood will be soft.
Preferably NOT a penknife as they usually snap shut cutting fingers whilst you are busy digging into the wood. Use a kitchen fork.

Impeller is around axle. Two bolts undo the plate behind the prop. Careful. They shear easily. If seazed try heat.
Hi renew wire which holds the Fuel cap in,its on the end of the white plastic which goes to cap.
The wire is mild steel you need stainless steel.

Annoying ey! I think what we're doing it relatively new so a few people won't understand it for a while, if that makes sense? 😁
With the gasket wrap some ptfe tape around it. It’s a bit fiddly but it will get you out of a tight spot in a emergency.
Try cleaning the mold with a cloth and vinegar. It will kill the spores and hopefully not grow back.

Can we see some cooking videos please Nadiyana's food always looks delish. Careful how much grease you lag on stuff, some times putting too much on can cause muck and grit to get stuck where you don't want it. Stay safe during lockdown and look fwd to when you can set off again (unless, of course your rich parents land their private helicopter on your helicopter deck and fly you off to grand caymen for a bit of a break whilst the servants finish fixing your boat for you :-) )

I'd make it a priority to get the leg off and inspect/replace the impeller. It's an easier job than striping the carb especially since it has no gears. I drop the legs on my outboards yearly just to ensure that the driveshafts don't seize into the crank. On my 4hp Yamaha (with gears) I can pull the leg off in about 4 minutes
It's a real pain without a proper vice and the engine pumps water ok, I'll just wait till I have the tools for the job
Is it that the bolts are to tight to undo or is it that the bolts come out ok but you can't separate the lower unit ?

@@WildlingSailing I've never owned a boat, but my father was a keen sailor starting with dinghys and then 25ft sail boats. Like you, he didn't have much money to play with and had to "make do and mend" which I think is one of several reasons I enjoy your channel so much. Also at first his boats were in Bangor where you bought yours! I remember sailing the menai straits as you did. Then we moved to Devon and his boat was either moored in Plymouth or Newton Ferris to the east, where you also sailed - that was also a great pleasure to watch you sailing the same waters. Although an engineer, he finished his working life as a yacht broker in Plymouth because he loved being around boats so much. He wanted to sail to France and the scily isles, but never did - but you have! I live in North Cornwall now having spent many years living in London and working for a homelessness charity. I have health problems and no money, so I will never sail except vicariously through you. I think you are both utterly charming, down to earth, resilient and doing something wonderful. I wish all good fortune and will follow you every nautical mile. Nick.

Gearbox bearings are fussy in those little outboard motors, best to change the oil fairly often as water gets into it from the pump above and through the prop shaft seal. Gear oil, 85 to 140w. Try not to turn the prop backwards cos the impeller blades have to get flipped backwards in their housing when you do that and it can cause cracks in the rubber and then they break and bits clog the water passages in the engine yuk.

Can you do me a favor please??? i need to know the dimensions of the spring that seats inside the leg.. the one that is responsible for the tension needed to turn the outboard, it is on the opposite side of the greasing nipple, my previous owner lost it, be careful it might pop out.. Thank you

how do you know wood is rotten ? well, first when you'll see the rotten part it will be too late, usually wood rottens from the inside to the outside, following micro-cracks, so you can not just trust what you see. You have to (gently) hit it with a small hammer, if there is rot, the sound of the hit will be different in the spot that is rotting. If the rot has reached the surface (under the varnish), the point of knife should get into it fas if it was butter. I myself broke a rotten tiller on my sail boat some years ago while i was turning back to port, loosing the use of the tiller (for what ever reason) is something any one may face one day, and depending from where you are can be from disturbing to dramatic.

The shaft, pump, impellor, gearbox probably need a greasing. * Not sure if you have a service manual. Never use a split pin twice unless it is an emergency. Replace the fuel cap retainer clip, the particles of rust from it will find their way into the carb. A can of carb cleaner or brake cleaner is useful for lots of jobs. Don't use WD-40. Although everyone finds uses for it the real use is for displacing water and damp on ignitions. General cleaning too but it does leave a residue when it dries.

I'm sure the cap is fine but it's the bent wire that stops you losing it that is rusty. Make a new one from a wire coat hanger, they are often galvanised if you look around.
Neat Glycol anti freeze onto wood if you want to stop rot. It soaks straight through paint and varnish and oil finishes btw just to give you some idea of how porous those surfaces are, it won't soak through epoxy and polyester.

Did you fix your gasket? You can try cutting one out of cardboard, using the old one as a template, then grease the cardboard before fitting. A real cheapskate solution!

Find a log and cut out a spare tiller, and get spare impellers for the engines, you don't want to be without motoring behind God's back with a broken impeller!

how to check for rotten wood . drive the point/pinch on your pocket knife into the wood and if it gets more than 2-3 mm in you have an isue that will develop over time and get worse , you will get the hang off it when you have tried it a few times ,good luck developing your new skill :-)
