  • Nikon D700 $300 Full Frame Camera FX Shows Off to the Streets of Manhattan Photography Class 296
    Nikon D700 Review www.dpreview.c...
** Pulitzer Prize awards are handed to the photographer not the camera!
So, truth be told, it's the person holding the camera is the artist creating the photo. Next, understand the foundation of this channel and photography itself, "the camera does not make a bad photographer a great photographer", a camera of $42 or $4,200. will not create an award-winning shot.
As far as post processing your work, well if you want to get the finest image you can after the shutter clicks, you absolutely must do some post work.
If you ordered a meal at a restaurant, would you like the meal better if the chef tweaked your food to the highest pro chef level? Yes of course.
    Be well.

    *Photographer Carmine Taverna Defines Street Photography in these words;
Street photography, a genre of photography that records everyday life in a public place. The very publicness of the setting enables the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge. Street photographers do not necessarily have a social purpose in mind, but they prefer to isolate and capture moments which might otherwise go unnoticed.
    ***Why are CCD cameras better?
CCD sensors create high-quality, low-noise images. CMOS sensors are usually more susceptible to noise. Because each photosite on a CMOS sensor has several transistors located next to it, the light sensitivity of a CMOS chip tends to be lower, as many of the photons hit the transistors instead of the photosite.

    1) buy from a seller in Japan.
    2) they must have 100% positive feedback.
    3) they must have at least 100 Feedbacks.
    4) the listing must say MINT OR EXC OR WORKING OR TESTED OR LIKE NEW.
    5) you must understand the camera will Not be the cheapest one on ebay.

"Any authentic work of art, must start an argument, between the artist and his audience."
    Must Read
"Photographic art overlaps with the landscape, portraiture, and other photography types. It is defined by the artist's vision and approach to get distinct photographs. Unlike other forms of photography, fine art photography is about capturing what the artist sees instead of what the camera sees. It is just another tool for artists to produce their art."
(Quote from N.F. I. The Nashville Film Institute)
**The CCD was invented in 1969 at Bell Labs by Willard Boyle and George Smith. Since that CCD FILM LIKE SENSOR was sensitive to light it was used as image sensor for video and TV cameras. It could also be used as a memory device or analogue signal delay since it's principally a kind of analogue shift-register circuit.

Got another D700 with 15k clicks. Camera is in very good condition. Ok I have the D850, D810 etc.. but the D700 pics straight out of the camera actually look more vivid.

I have a D850 and D780 but I just bought my 3rd D700 with MD with 9612 clicks for $325. It is a beast but delivers the nicest images.

The Professor strikes again on one of my old cameras that I still use for Landscape on a stick or tripod. Can't imagine carrying one around for street shooting , but I did several times back in the day when I mostly had the Nik D40 around my neck and still shoot a lot with that though, I prefer now to use some of my other cameras with the articulated view screens cuzz the days are gone when I would/could drop down prone onto the ground, street, or sidewalk, eyeball to an ant or cigarette butt to get one of my favorite perspective angled up shots especially if there is a pattern to the macadam like laid in bricks.
These days the D700 is harder to find in good condition for a reasonable price as I was recently looking for one for my son and found few, and most were in the $400 to $600+ range, so grabbed something else for him, a like new D90 to get him started and off that damn cellphone camera. Nothing against cellphone cameras , some are quite good.
    Thanks for the post Professor.

Note; If you get a D700 or any older camera, be sure to check on what version of firmware it has and if not updated, update it.

I picked up a D700 in 2010 brand new. Yes, it did cost me. Picked it up in Adorama. Down the road I picked up the 85mm lens as well used. The combo of the 2 is incredible. My D700 is still going strong and I picked up another with box at $300 bucks out in LA. I've probably shot 5000 plus pictures with my original D700. Great camear without a doubt!

Exactly, as Ansel said, the most important part of the camera is the 12" behind it. In a film camera, the camera makes minimal difference in manual cameras. Now the f5, 6, 100, have dead on auto focus and matrix metering. I agree keeping iso to 200-400. I have gotten some great shots to 1600 but my prior d200 was only good to 400. I have the 85 1.8 D and since I am at f8 or 11, don't need wide aperture especially for fast grab shots. But if I go out intentionally shooting wide open slowly, a zeiss 85 1.4 planar is my choice especially with fine grain, high resolution film like tmax or acros or portra. But my fav street shot in ages was with the 135 2.0 dc on portra 400. Where megapixels comes in handy, is I got rid of the 70-200 beast and can crop 46 mp with the 135 getting all that weight off that camera over my shoulder.

Since my darkroom in 1959 with my dad's prewar dark room equipment. My best line as a teenager was let's step into my dark room and see what develops. It worked! Getting a red bulb for the night light in the bathroom where I develop film and will see if that line still works 60 years later.@@CarmineTavernaPhotography

Agreed. Loved this camera when new, same lens and everything and giving it another go for fun, but somethings playing up. Randomly the mirror is staying up. Not the Err issues some had long ago. In fact no messages, just blank in that area (shutter/lens). Stays up even if powered off or battery out. I can press the DOP button and it comes down. Properly stored in humidity controlled home all it's life.

@@CarmineTavernaPhotography I had no plans on repairing if it’s is just random. It’s 15 yrs old & a low shutter back up. Is is worth keep if it doesn’t get worse? Or is it something that profiting? It’s barely at 21k. Licks but not used in 5 yrs in tempered home.

    • @CarmineTavernaPhotography

Since you know of the issue with your camera, you know you should perhaps carry a back-up camera too. Hold on to it for sure.

I have the D700 as well and im planning to just using vintage NIkkor AI/S lenese on it for manual shooting only. Would love to see if you have any tips on metering with old Nikkor glass or manual focus glass in general with this camera.
