    The D700 is THE LEGEND today. I have it, use it, love it.
    Recently I got myself a used D850. That one will be THE LEGEND over 20 years, I'm pretty sure about that.

    had one and sold it off. missed it and tired sometimes of electronic viewfinder so just got another one with only 3200 shots on it. Used it on a portrait shoot a couple of days away and it blew me away yet again!! Damn this camera is so magical.

    Few things for folks interested in this camera. It favors a warmer color, which can get yellow redish in incandescent light. It only has 1 card slot, will produce some hot pixels in dark areas at high iso. Just some things to think about.

    • @joanarling
      @joanarling 11 місяців тому +4

      Hmm, yes and no. "Yellow redish" is totally correct for incandescent, nothing to do with the camera. But yes, it has a warm cast, which is good for portraits. Yes, I'd like a second card slot, but in over ten years only one card has ever given me trouble. No hot pixels I am aware of, but noise above 3200 iso certainly isn't anything worth writing home about. Still, that's at least one stop more than even most rigorous overdevelopping of film would give me, and by then grain would be an art in itself.
      Still, I agree you'll have to think about getting the D700. By today's standards it's no longer a pro camera, rather one for enthusiast amateurs. But in this category it really shines.

    Also an owner of a used D700. I can also vouch for the fact that this camera punches WAY above its weight considering it's an "old" camera with "only" 12MP. This camera allowed me to get a proper full-frame kit going, with great lenses (the AF-D range which are also great and more affordable), for well under $1000. 12MP is more than enough in most applications unless you're doing extra large prints or need to crop in substantially on your shots. For the latter, I would just recommend practicing getting the composition right in-camera so you don't need to worry about that, and you'll be more than satisfied with the results!

    I bought mine in 2008 along with a D3 for shooting weddings. My favorite thing about both cameras is something many of us pros love, “3D Focus Tracking”. It holds tack sharp focus instantly when triggered. Try it with the cheapest 50mm “Sneaker Zoom” and it will hold focus even when target moves in any direction.

    I have one that I bought used on eBay some years ago. I also have three other digitals and seven film cameras; I try and rotate them. I shoot more film these days, so the 700 doesn't get out much. But I reckon it'll be great this coming weekend, when I'll have a few hours to kill around the beautiful city of Bath. I'm normally doing street photog with film so I'll switch to more arty stuff with the 700. Or I might slap a manual lens on and practise some zone focusing. This camera is proof that 12MP is plenty for the vast majority of use cases and the results show that photography is not about the latest gear.

    I bought the D700 because of the sensor and because I need a break from looking at screens when I'm out shooting photography. I think this is a camera where you can treat it like a film camera, do very minimal PP and see great results. I do wish it was a couple 100g lighter but I think with prime lenses, it's not unbearably heavy.

Oddly enough, I weighed my Z7 with Smallrig l-bracket (needed to fit my pinky) and the FTZ adapter and it's only about 100g lighter than the D700 with battery and memory card. I couldn't believe it.

    Bought mine in 2008, used professionally for 10 years then as a back up. 12 mp is plenty for on line images that are down sized to low resolution. Mine just keeps on tickin. I love the colors but it is built like a tank, has produced images that won professional competitions, and it just does exactly what I need. With mirrorless giving novices a view of exposure, slr's are less desirable for beginners but, this thing is crazy capable and complex. My film dslrs like the f6 are IDENTICAL in layout so going from digital to film is seamless. As a matter of fact, a couple times, grabbed the digital instead of film because they look identical. The design from 1995 on the f5 by the italian designer who designed things like the DeLorean, ferarris and lamborginis. My d850 is identical.

      @@robbellphoto On my birthday in june I will celebrate my 65th anniversary of a gift of a complete pro dark room from my father, a 620 Kodak medium format camera and trip to Kodak. Shooting that long, I have collected much gear over that time, 6 35 mm film, 4 digital, 645, 67 cameras and lenses, film developing scanning setup, fully equipped studio. It give me lots of options for clients and allows not only great photos but fun in format and camera selection. Problem, either I sell some of it or I need a bigger house.

Have 2 of them and plan to get at least another 5 so they can pry one of them away from my dead hands when the time comes. Your style is right on. Just make sure you remove any remaining old adhesive and trim the original slightly stretched rubbers. Cheers.

    The D700 has a certain style of contrast, especially in the lower end and up towards mid tones. Had mine for almost 10yrs now and just keep collecting lenses on the way. Recently got a 80-200mm D-lens for $120. Which is a huge price difference from the 70-200. And, because the apurture ring is ON the lens, i can also use it for my analogue Nikons aswell 🕺
    Another huge plus (for beginners) is that all settings can be adjusted with buttons, without going into any menus! :)

    Could not afford a D700 until 2016. For what I shoot, the D700 sensor rendered colors SOOC better than any other digital camera I've seen or used. Unfortunately, the used one I bought must have had a rough life, as it did not last long. Additionally, I LOVED the weight and ergonomics of the body. In the case of the D700, older is BETTER. In the case of MOST things, older is better. Try to keep up.

      @@user-zv6qu4ks1p oh i have s very good idea what a camera is. a d700 is among the good cameras. let there be no missunderstanding. the d700 was an average camera at lanuch. it is a waste of money now.
