  • The Nikon D700 is 13 years old (released 2008), the lens, Nikkor AIS 85mm f1.4 up to 40 years old (made 1981-2006). Are they any good in todays digital world. I think so. See what results can be achieved in low light conditions, landscape. You judge.

It really makes beautiful images in low light. Of course, newer full frame mirrorless can as well, but on a budget it's unbeatable.
Also, at higher ISO it produces a lovely grain very similar to film, not an ugly "noise" like others cameras.

I very much enjoy your channel and videos. I recently got back into photography to share shooting images with my adult daughter. I did not have a lot to spend and got myself a very nice D700 and some older Nikon lenses on e bay after watching videos like yours. I am very happy with it. I know it’s older but it has taken some just beautiful photographs. I love it!

Never get rid of it! There's a charm to the D700 I can't explain; it's my primary go to, keep in mind, I also have a D3X and D850. It's truly one of the best Nikon has made.

Back before I retired, I was shooting weddings and later model portfolios & street photography in NYC.
My D3 and D700 were my tools. The D3 had a 100% viewfinder and two card slots.
My D700 was a much lighter camera so when having to move a lot, it was fine.
I used both often using 3D Focus Tracking but most Z cameras do not.
My Z7 however is fine for long tele shots but rests most of the time in my equipment closet.

    Very nice demonstration and commentary.
This year I was struggling to get the photos I wanted out a D7000 so I started looking for a replacement.
It has treated me well for a long time but in low light it can't autofocus well and in high iso it looks terrible.
After lots of research and planning, I chose a clean D700 for its replacement. The cost was lower than an entry level DSLR yet the images it produces are up there with the best mirrorless.
As a matter of fact, when I run the JPEGs through a program that uses a.i to enhance the images, they come back looking nearly the same. There's nothing to enhance because they're already so good!
