So sad to hear that Geordie has passed away. This was the first place I went, because the recorded version is my favourite Killing Joke song, but this live version where the vocals stop half way and you just get to listen to Geordie's guitar is just bliss. Can't believe he's gone. There was no-one like him.
- Brighter Than a Thousand Suns - Killing Joke's most polished, underrated and accessible piece of work. This CD is a must have for any music lover's collection...
A lot of similarities too with the album that psychedelic furs did that same year. The furs too a risk created a great album was a stretch just like killing joke and the Brighter album. Both bands did their videos for those albums in black and white too.
Geordie's guitar sounds so amazing. He's one of those guitar players that you just know when you hear him. He is so distinctive. Big Paul and Raven are also killing it here. I love hearing Raven's bass so well in the mix. And yes, this version is how the LP should have sounded.
I’m from L.A. and these idiot DJs on the radio never played them……..I discovered this awesome band from watching North Shore in 1987…. Bout the OST then been a huge KJ fan since!….🤙🏼
drums + bass awesome, guitar fantastic. Just listen to the instrumental part here, Geordie you were a real genius, the best and my favorite guitarist. Gone too soon, sad to early ;'( RIP Geordie.
This video is the shit! and you can't deny everybody in the band looked great by that time. They all are in great shape, you can feel that vibe just watching this clip. But what i loved the most about it were those moments when Jaz's mic doesn't work, you can listen some extra instrumental moments and really enjoy that awesome Geordie and Raven synergy. Thanks for sharing!
1 month ago i was enjoying this awesome video, talking about how great Paul and Geordie played live, and now this terrible news. Paul was the nicest man in the band and a great bass player. We'll miss you a lot compadre!! LOVE and RESPECT to the mighty Raven and his family. Absent friends shall live by love. Paul Raven you'll always rule!! (As friendly and active as he was i'm sure he will be working in a new project with Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham and Ian Curtis)
Jaz is actually playing additional keyboards AND singing during the middle part of the song (post 3 minutes). If you look closely you can see him singing into a microphone that's on a stand in front of his keyboard, but the mic must be faulty as no vocals can be heard. Great song, and sounds just as good as an instrumental as it does with vocals. Can't wait to see them at the Forum in October!!!!!!! R.I.P Raven
Agreed. Even with the phased out early stuff compared to the heavier stuff later on you can always tell it's him. I remember watching Top Gear one night and hearing a song playing that I'd never heard before but I knew straight away that it was Geordie playing. Turned out to be Invocation from the Hosannas record. Nobody else could make a semi-hollowbody with P90s sound so crushing yet beautiful.
- Dude...you are so right. I have the full KJ catalogue to date....but damn I always give BTATS the most play. Every song is badass. I also have the extended mixes to that release.
these songs need playing. whoever's calling the shots for the setlist is not in touch, look at drab majesty (who i like), totally referencing this song.. abandon the dave grohl album and play this stuff. i can see why they don't, but they also ignore the martin atkin years.. really good songwriting in there, doing themselves a disservice from an audience standpoint, waiting to lap it up.
They need to play this live more often, or someone needs to upload better versions of this song. As it stands this is definitely the best live version I've heard thus far. One of those bands you should feel very cool for liking.
That was the opening song in the Florence concert. They played it way harder than this one. Me and my friends were blown away from the center of the hall by the old punk KJ fans😁 those were good times. And Brighter is a masterpiece!
@McSnurf I definitely agree! Jaz's faulty microphone gave the song a new light and a new power. Shows how good the song is in that it works brilliantly both with and without vocals. I wish they'd play this song live again...
I used to have this on cassette, ( small plastic enclosure that housed a reel of magnetic tape on which audio information could be stored and played back from).
I totally agree here. I like the subtle change of styles during their career. From post-punk, via new-metal to uber-grunge ("total invasion"). this obviously was their doom-groove(?) era;-) cheers to ya'll old & new punx
@@PayminatorX Thanks but i am a fan since 1983. I always way my life is a floors pyramid. My family on top then Killing Joke then my friends. This band was always there in my good/bad moments. No criticises but they just play too loud sometimes.
- @lakesidepark2112 - I don't remember any controversy when this was released back in the mid 80s, except some comments from friends saying it strayed from their earlier sound. But that's KJ. What I do remember is listening to the entire CD over and over. The CD played like one long song...and, very prophetic in its description of mankind. If you were to view the video for Sanity, you can see imagery of Washington D.C., and comparing it to the decline of modern western civilisation.
@lakesidepark2112 - The beauty of it is its accessibility and just a very polished KJ release. Actually, the polished refined sound started with Eighties and just carried over to this release.
Thanks to keyboards not so exposed in the mix and microphone problems this version sounds far way better than LP! "Instrumental" part is simply epic...
@ajarnfrankie Totally agree. What was all the controversy about when this album was released? REad something about the critics being harsh about the band straying from their original sounds and all ... I think it was their best, but that's just my opinion.
Too bad about the second mic issue, but still a great performance. In my opinion, sonically this is a more definitive version of this song...wish all of Brighter Than A Thousand Suns had a more raw production such as this!!!
There is a 2008 remastered version with much rawer guitars. "2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of this classic album by British Post-Punk legends featuring three bonus tracks. With frontman Jaz Coleman's intense persona and the band's edgy yet atmospheric wall of sound, Killing Joke always stood out amongst their contemporaries. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns was originally released in 1986 and featured remixed versions of some of the tracks instead of the original mixes. This reissue restores the original mixes and is released for the first time as the band originally intended. Bonus tracks include a non album track ('Ecstasy') plus extended mixes of 'Adorations' and 'Sanity'. Virgin."
@juliogutherpereira I'm unsure if it's the theme song from North Shore. But definitely the song playing during the Rick/Chandler/Turtle Waimea scene. Regardless, cult classic movie. Great stuff.
"No way bra, dis is between you and da hui", "Eh you unreal bra, you mus like get drilled real bad uh", "You took his stuff, you pound um", "Here on da Nort Shaw, we treat friends mo bettah!"

Sanity, Adorations...
It's my favorite Killing Joke album for sure.
Unequivocally 👍
A lot of similarities too with the album that psychedelic furs did that same year. The furs too a risk created a great album was a stretch just like killing joke and the Brighter album. Both bands did their videos for those albums in black and white too.
goddamn that geordie walker guitar tone gets me every time
Yeah, its totally insane!!
Indeed!
Kinda grabs you round the bubu, aight?
Superb innit..

You would almost overlook the skills of all four when listening to Geordie's effortless wall of sound. Match made in heaven this band.
I just got into Killing Joke a few months ago. I'm 38 and I can't believe I never heard of them growing up in the 80's and 90's!
My thoughts exactly. Are they a Mandela effect?
Im 38 too Discovered them through kurt cobain back in 2007, then until i watched their videos and live im sold.
The Movie, 'The North Shore'...HAOLE!!
I’m from L.A. and these idiot DJs on the radio never played them……..I discovered this awesome band from watching North Shore in 1987…. Bout the OST then been a huge KJ fan since!….🤙🏼
Watch North Shore....
The phrasing Geordie brings, along with the harmonising with the keyboards gives me goosebumps
I actually like when the mic cuts out cause you can hear Geordie's fabulous riffing in the chorus more clearly, which reaches its peak at this era IMO
Good for karaoke 👍
God damm bass...arr those were great times 1986 for me best year of my life regarding live gigs.. 👌👌
Paradoxically my favorite tune by KJ.
The movie "North Shore" as brought me here! One of my favourites songs from the movie! Nice live performance!
Ascolto i Killing Joke da piu di 30 anni e la loro musica non ha età. Grandiii
drums + bass awesome, guitar fantastic. Just listen to the instrumental part here, Geordie you were a real genius, the best and my favorite guitarist. Gone too soon, sad to early ;'(
RIP Geordie.
This is just amazing. They should play this at school everyday for kids.

Wow,, best version ever... yoU majesty K.J. How i miss you guys on stage, now without Geordie, Feels Sad.

@miniwakka Totally agree. Love the way Geordie looks completely ice cool while unleashing seven shades of hell from his Gibson ES295. Pure genius.
RIP Paul Raven, you legend

Outfuckingstanding performance! the look on the face of the fan realizing the p.a. system went down at 5:26, priceless.
Apparently that's a normal look if your a bewildered German youth. 😉😁😁
Easily one of the best songs ever made. Thank you for posting this epic version!
My favorite song from an overlooked album (I don't think even the band likes it now). Great performance, even though Jaz looks like Paul Stanley here.
- Dude...you are so right. I have the full KJ catalogue to date....but damn I always give BTATS the most play. Every song is badass. I also have the extended mixes to that release.
Hands down favorite KJ album. Its a masterpiece of words and music.
I always considered this his Alain Prost era :)
these songs need playing. whoever's calling the shots for the setlist is not in touch, look at drab majesty (who i like), totally referencing this song.. abandon the dave grohl album and play this stuff. i can see why they don't, but they also ignore the martin atkin years.. really good songwriting in there, doing themselves a disservice from an audience standpoint, waiting to lap it up.
also, don't care if jaz looks like pantsless paula abdul. probably one of the top 5 frontmen ever.
I created a Killing Joke mix CD for my car and I pulled this audio for the CD. This is still epic 2 years after I discovered this on UA-cam.
Try tapping along Total Invasion! Will post the tracking list of my cd mix later, promise;-)
Did the same 10 years ago....It starts skipping at the 2nd song...Time for a new compilation I guess...
And how good is this ? So unique. All aspects of the song and band are outstanding.
13 years have passed and no one mentioned the Yamaha DX1? I wonder where that synth is now.

Is there a whole show of this anywhere? NEED!!!!
I used to have this on cassette, ( small plastic enclosure that housed a reel of magnetic tape on which audio information could be stored and played back from).
Amazing performance. BTATS is one of my favourite albums. Thank you!
the energi from KJ is just amazing
Paul's Musicman Cutlass 1 is transpiercing the mix :)
The sound is awesome
Awesome live band.first seen them subterranea club London 94 which i still have on dodgy vhs cassette.geordie best guitarist of his time.
The date this was uploaded is affecting me more than the date it was recorded.
Energy, perfect sound. It's the most commercial sound of Killing Joke but it pleases my ears.
Fucking superb...............
Lovely song & performance , cheers
such a sick ass guitar
Where is the rest of this set?! The quality is top!
This is certainly their best
@Yajnaji I've been watching this every day for a week!
Beautiful! An awesome song from an underrated Killing Joke album. Thanks Dentoxic!
Thanks your chanel is amazing
Vive killing joke 🖤🇲🇫
Sounds better in live!!This is good a version!
Good night Paul Raven and thank you.
Rest In Peace.
Tonight I'm going to put on the BTATS cd, have a few beers and drink to you.
Britain's finest
I totally agree here. I like the subtle change of styles during their career. From post-punk, via new-metal to uber-grunge ("total invasion"). this obviously was their doom-groove(?) era;-)
cheers to ya'll old & new punx
Doom groove is the best way to describe their music Lol
This is it - it's still Killing Joke, no matter what !
Well, except for Outside the Gate... ;)
Great poppy Bass ( Sting Ray ) great tune.
KJ = pure raaw energy
Spectacular
This song makes me wanna dance
Not sure to have ever heard something better.
Try Total Invasion, Exit, Requiem to name a few.
@@PayminatorX Thanks but i am a fan since 1983. I always way my life is a floors pyramid. My family on top then Killing Joke then my friends. This band was always there in my good/bad moments. No criticises but they just play too loud sometimes.
Kicks ass!
Every concert I go to I belly-up to stage right to study his brilliance!
Microphone went out , dude still jamming
They said "When all else fails, just vibe" 😂😂

Love it!…

Perfect sound! North Shore (1987)theme!!!
These guys were tight. So many bands from that era sounded awful live. This is as good as the studio version if not better.
Stranglers and the joke were pretty dam tight from that era .
At their best moment!
A Classic!!!!
Paul Haven Great Bass Player !!
Fantastic ..
@lakesidepark2112

wow..thanks alot,love this album!
this is so godamn good. still at the height of their powers during that stage. do these men age? are they cyborgs i mean really
yo nací el año que hicieron este concierto, algo salió mal y algo salió bien, y este tema me encanta!
The Raven King.
I regard Outside the Gate as Jaz's solo album. That's afterall what it was supposed to be.
A guitar God descends from on high...
Such a great performance only to be tainted by forgetting to plug in Jaz's keyboard mic. Sound guy def got fired after this.
Absolutely! The only performer I ever saw who was cooler on stage than Geordie was Lemmy.
Thanks to keyboards not so exposed in the mix and microphone problems this version sounds far way better than LP!
"Instrumental" part is simply epic...
@corona73
oh, man...it's never too late! you were probably a tad too young to hear their "big song" Eighties when it came out in '84.
Great Sound...North Shore movie theme!!!
Nice video! Thanks for share!
Marcelo from Brazil.
this song is the best for the 1987 The North Shore.
North Shore Theme! awesome!!
@beforethree
He was too cool for us! Had to go early, we'll see him again!
BTATS gets a bad rap, but I consider it a very well-made album, and better than most of the shit out there. Good live version.
RIP Geordie and Raven. Two Kings.
And at 3:45 Jaz flees the stage and is found on Iceland two years later.
@bajen3
What?! Another Swede but me that like KJ?!
AWESOME! :D

North Shore, 80's classic movie...........Shoots from Oahu, Hawaii
this is song from North Shore movie!!
So awesome! At 4:41, Geordie is thinking: "Where is that muppet?!? Geezus fucking christ Jaz! You should have done some singing loooong ago!!" :)
