    Perfect guide! I watched video this before replacing the trolley on my garage door opener. It took all of 15 min. thanks to this walkthrough.

    I took a good look, and some pictures and figured out I was about to order the wrong part since I watched the other video about this topic. My opener has the "T" rail, not the square (box?) rail. My bad...almost. It still looks like something I can do so I ordered the part and now we wait. Thanks for doing these videos. I've already replaced the drive gears and worm gears in both openers in the past and those were fairly painless. Your tips and insight should make this job easier for me.

    Thank you very much. The instructions from the manufacturer of the trolley were not nearly detailed enough. I then watched another video and was still not sure what to do. I watched your video, felt confident that I could do it, and now about an hour later it is done and works great.

    Your video helped me make the correct decisions during the changeout of my Liftmaster 41c5141-1. My Craftsman opener has a chain and an attached cable. I had to improvise a bit but all in all the job went well. Took me about 1.5 hours but the opener is smooth and a whole lot less noisy. Thanks.

    Andre, excellent video - short and to the point.
    I have a question: is there a common reason why the inner and / or outer trolley parts break or tear apart? Is it because (a) the chain, which pulls strongly at each end of the outer trolley might have too much tension in it, or (b) the moving parts of the door have not been lubricated enough so the friction and weight of the door parts cause the metal to shear or stress, or (c) the metal is cheaply made and so it deteriorates after 5 to 10 years of moderate use?
    Clearly, you don't know the details of each garage door setup, so assuming the garage door, motor, and general setup were done correctly to begin with, what ideas do you have regarding the source of such wear?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  3 роки тому +1

      They do need occasional lubrication so I would say B.

    My trolley is dis engaing on its own often, 2,3 times a week, not that often - , is there a easy fix beside taking the whole thing down ? would tighting the chain help ? or greasing the track ?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  2 роки тому

      If it’s disengaging on it’s own I would assume the trolley is damaged to be doing that, at which point I’d replace the trolley/carriage assembly

    My beltdrive Liftmaster trolley kit came with a full compressed spring/shaft bolt replacement part. One end is square and fits a 1/2 inch wrench, but the other is 3-sided with grooves cut into it where the washer goes. Which tool do I use for that end to release the tension, or how do I adjust that spring? Seems like it should only be partially compressed, but there's nothing on that end to hold it in place to loosen the square nut shaft...

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  2 роки тому

      Square side goes on the outside, once you got the desired tension you do need to release the spring. I usually use a flathead screwdriver and insert into one of the little indentations in the washer to keep it in place and then simultaneously turn the square end. It should release after maybe a quarter turn

    Would you go ahead and put a new chain sprocket (round piece at the end with the teeth) while you are changing the trolley?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  2 роки тому

      Changing that part is more involved, if it’s okay I’d leave it alone

    • @networth8754
      @networth8754 2 роки тому +1

      @@GarageDoorGuidance I think you many be referring to the gear and sprocket on top of the motor. I am referring to the "roller" at the end you were working on. I mistakenly called it a sprocket with teeth. It actually is a "roller" with no teeth which is attached with one bolt.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  2 роки тому

      That would make more sense. If it’s old and cracking you might as well replace it but for the most part I don’t have to change them unless they break due to user error ( setting limits incorrectly and having the trolley run into the idler pulley )

    I have messed up something by replacing drive gear. The cable end of chain goes sprocket and bangs then reverses. I have tried with the force and limit controls. I didn't mark where they were before. Is the gear at bottom of Drive shaft supposed to go a certain direction? I have replaced these before but never had this problem. Thanks

    when you replace the trolly , does it matter what exact location you leave it once its put together? my trolley doesnt stop even with the peice it meets, and then it goes backwards. I cant figure it out. I had to replace the gears in the motor and this trolly goes forward, almost overs the piece it meets before continuing, but then goes in reverse and stops so the door opens about 5 inches, then closes again. im stummped

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  4 роки тому

      It does matter, you need to have it positioned relative to the limit switch position. If the limit position switch is in closed or open position the trolley has to be placed there also. Have you already gotten it fixed?

It came off its little black holder but I popped it back in. when I turn the limit switches,, it doesnt look like the limit screws even move?? and the carraige is not changing positions either.. what can be happening?? I keep giving up. I replaced the gears myself but now icant get the limit switches to make the chaing move up or down. the door opens then goes back down.. i give up.

      Mr Reymundo I usually unscrew the two half inch bolts that connect the rail to the plastic wheel at the end. You can then shift the rail left and right in order to slide the old trolley off and new on.

    Hi Andre,
    I have "Lift-Master The Professional Line, 1/3 H.P. Security+". Yesterday the trolley was broken when I tried to open the garage door. I watched this video. It seemed quite informational. Thus I plan to try DIY.
    Question #1, Part ordering: Will the part that you referred "The replacement trolley can be ordered through amazon here: amzn.to/2Ml66sq" LIFTMASTER Garage Door Openers 41A3489 Complete Trolley Assembly" work on my model?
    Questions #2. Any tips on how to position the trolley correctly, and adjust the up and down limit in order to avoid it from going too far to hit either the door/wall or the light ball on the opener?
    Would really appreciate your advice.
