Very useful video! Also what gas masks do you recommend for around the 20 dollar range?

Glad you found the information useful! 🥰 In the next episodes of "What can get you killed" series we'll talk about other interesting topics like textile filter covers and iodine pills.
      20 bucks? A tight budget. 😁
But you're in luck because currently we're working on a video in which we're testing 3 legacy respirators, all of them under 20 dollars in surplus stores. In this price range we're talking by definition about Soviet and Eastern block countries respirators.
My recommendation is the Czechoslovak CM-4, but there are certain things you need to watch out for! ⚠ All will be explained in the next CBRN Academy video. 😇

What half-face respirators would you recommend? While I usually only wear respirators for cosplay purposes I still love the functionality being available and I'm wondering if there's any respirators that provides the same level of filtration as a gas mask just without the eye protection

Hi there! I personally don't have a reason to own or use half-face respirators, but when it comes to level of respiratory protection, it all depends on the filters you use.
Some industrial half-face respirators use proprietary cartridges, but in case you have one that takes 40 mm threaded filters, you can be more picky. It's all explained in our GAS MASK FILTERS tutorial video.

You also really shouldn't fall asleep with them

Hi there! Not sure what you had in mind, but I slept once or twice with a gas mask on as part of our extended civil defense training. 😴🥴

@@cbrnacademy interesting. I was taught that since your breathing is weaker while asleep it might not be enough to draw enough air through a filter.
That might only apply to older filters and masks, but I am pretty sure that it used to be a thing

@@TheDefaultLP Czechoslovak civil defense norms back in the day counted with situations when prolonged wearing of respirators might be required, up to 50 hours. 😬
But since you mentioned the breathing resistance, some people might argue two filters are easier to breath through. I never encountered a situation with modern respirators when a single filter wouldn't be enough. 👌
I wanted to mention this in the video and in the end I didn't. Maybe next time.

@@TheDefaultLP Most modern respirators have way lower breathing resistance than years ago.
