@@djstuc it's not nonsense. He's saying that for professional shoots, photographers would struggle with cameras like these. And he's right. In fact, Omar would agree with him, since he always said he wouldn't use Fuji for work. One of the reasons he mentioned was that it wasn't as fast and reliable to capture that moment.

Enjoyed this one a lot. I'm in my 40s, my only camera is an X-T1 I bought a year ago (before the prices exploded), and almost all of my photography happens on walks with my family. Love the film recipes, and I even like that the older camera "misses" more shots than a new camera would. Always enjoy seeing what you do on a neighborhood walk with an older camera.

Excellent clip Omar. My wife loves her X-E2s with plastic XC16-50 OIS II. We just returned from vacation and these 16MP XTrans II pics are fine. I am still using X-E3 and X-H1, so 24MP XTrans III sensor shooting Raw and Jpeg. Yes, the AF is outdated but good enough for what I do. Battery life, 1-2 spare battery will take you through a day. I usually pick one body and one or two lenses, but prefer the compact X-E3 with Fujicron 23 & 50/f2 in my daypack. I love the X-E3 since it has all the dials, d-pad and focus point selector a nice grip and thumb rest, combine it with the 35/f1.4 and the metal hood it looks spot on and the Pics are gorgeous...

I am veteran in Photography - Started in 1979 with a Nikon Fe and got my first DSLR Nikon D700 in 2010 and still have it and use it. I cannot understand why people want to keep upgrading all the time. If you have a tool that works why get another. It comes down to how skilled and talented you are, you can use any tool in this case camera to produce stunning photos. Look at some of the great photographers for example, they only used simple mechanical cameras.
I am also still shooting my Nikon FE film camera shooting BW photos.
Cheers and well done - great video!

I like the older Fuji cameras that still have the D Pad buttons that can be customised. Some of the newer cameras do not have the D Pad. Hoping Fuji can get their camera CAF issues resolved. Best wishes & safe travels.

The camera industry went through a lot of soul searching a decade ago, when nobody knew what the customers actually were going to buy and which direction to develop their technology in. That era gave us some remarkable innovation, like the Rx1r ii, the GX5, the GR series, and Gods know what other gems and flops history forgot.
It feels current technology is getting better every iteration, but the options are getting fewer as technologies converge.
Thank you for a light hearted video, your work is always a joy to watch.

The old cameras are just damn fun to shoot with. I regularly grab my X-T1 or 2 to go for a walk with, instead of my better-in-basically-every-way Zf (except the screen tilt). The colors are great, they feel more tactile and make great sounds. For those of us who love the process just as much as the result, they’re more fun IMO than many newer and more technically accomplished cameras.

    • @christopherbgriffith
      @christopherbgriffith 5 місяців тому +1

@@kart182 Maybe tactile isn't exactly the right word. I have the 1, 2, 3, and 5, and over time they've dampened the crispness of things like the mechanical shutter and made some buttons a bit mushier. You can argue that a quieter shutter is an asset for things like taking pictures in quiet environments, but in a noisy environment I'm not always 100% sure the 5 took the picture because I don't get enough haptic feedback. If I want super quiet operation, I can always use the electronic shutter - I like the mechanical to have a little heft to it. This is something that feels really good on the Zf and strikes the right balance of both feeling it and not noticing it too much. Over the years the build quality of the X-T line also just feels a bit cheaper and more plasticky. The 1 and 2 (which I got used after already owning the 3) both feel a bit more rugged and sturdier than the non-Made-In-Japan models.

For the past year, my sole goal was to purchase a fuji X-T5. Back in march I purchased an X-E2 just to hold on until the T5... and I fell in love with it to the point where I can't justify spending so much money on the T5 anymore. I'm just having a ton of fun as I am right now, and I don't think that a new camera with 10x more power and 10x more features will simplify this fun. It'll probably do the opposite and make me lose fun and shots overwhelmed by options.

Depending on the type of photography you do, it’s nice to have a newer camera for those autofocus modes and things to assist in performing your job. Less room for error by your doing (lack of experience or training, or confidence in your skill).
However, as an artist and to break away from that you need a tool to realign yourself and bring that joy back. Whether that be a different camera body or a manual/prime lens.
I’m fortunate enough to own a couple cameras for my hobby to keep myself sane outside of my job.

I did just buy the Lumix S9, mistake, that's going up for sale. Omar, as always your videos are right on the point! The lastest gear has it's place for sure, but "old" gear in my opinion often produces more interesting shots since its the camera the photograher knows inside and out , and don't even get me started on the place of film - which was definitley my gateway into digital! Also beautiful shots in this video!

I have an X70 and XT-2 and the only reason I'd consider changing/upgrading is to possibly spur my enthusiasm for photography which has been lacking recently. No technical reason at all and I know that if I did upgrade, the enthusiasm boost would only be temporary

While I shoot a Fujifilm XT5, I often wish I had my old magical sensor-ed XT2. There was something about it that I only appreciated in hindsight. Thank you for this thoughtful video. It proves I’m not the only one that gets wistful now and then.

    Great images, enjoyed this video.
Your digital gear here is 'newer' than most of my digital gear!
We could all maybe take a step back and contemplate that many of the most iconic photographs, from our photographic heroes were taken on equipment that likely had way less potential 'IQ' than even the oldest 'prosumer' digital equipment.
Edit: Hoboken looks cool. I went through it on the train a number of times a few years back - I should have got off. 'Next time' ;)

Great video Omar, I still shoot with my XE1 and a 35 f1.4 and get great results, and it was my camera of choice for a recent trip to Lisbon. I also shoot with a Z6ii but this is heavier and more obvious when shooting street. Keep up the amazing content.

A wonderful video. I love the peace and simplicity. I have an x-t20 (due to you) which I love. I also have an x-h1 now but prefer the smaller form. Hoping to go to Japan next year and may come back with XE2 or similar, If I can work out the menus in Japanese!

Omar's videos are always such a pleasure to watch. Great content, very well presented and his relaxed style is outstanding. Oh, and I recognised one of those geese. His name is George and I saw him a short while ago on a lake here in central London. I asked him to honk a greeting to you if he saw you, Omar.

I had a fuji xe2 for about 8 years and took my best family photos with it. Had an anomaly and tried Sony but wasn't for me. Went back to Fuji and got the xe4. It's tempting to get the x100v befofre pulling the trigger on the xe4 but the price difference made me pick the xe4. Also having a few options forces you to really be good and familiar with the settings and just focus on taking better photos.

For the same reasons I recently bought a used Xpro1. I didn't really knew what to expect, but I just adore this camera. So simple, so easy to use, it has a real charm despite the lack of newer comfort features. I'm 100% sure it's better built than the newer Fuji cameras, the little Xpro1 became my everyday walk around camera, paired with the tiny 35mm f2. It has the quintessential Fuji colors/film simulations, whoever says this camera is obsolete(or any older Fuji), doesn't know anything about photography.

Hey Omar! I love watching your videos, always interesting and always humorous. My gear is 'obsolete' too, I prefer to buy from an online supplier of equipment like MPB or B&H. My oldest camera is a Pentax MX-1 which go's everywhere with me and the other two are Olympus, an EM1-X and an EM1 Mkiii. Thanks again for the great video, looking forward to the next.

Aperture priority and single point autofocus is the way I too photograph with my first generation X100. The camera is outdated, slow and clunky, but it brings me a tremendous amount of joy.

Really enjoyed this, I own an older Fuji X-10 that is a little light on megapixels but offers much of what the camera you’re using has..really like the old Leica vibe that it gives off. Will never give it up. Great photos by the way. Cheers from fellow photographer and subscriber in Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦.

My very first Fuji was the X-E2 that I purchased new in 2014. And I love it. Straight forward in operation, not so SO many choices! Pure fun. I also own an X-Pro2 and X100v, all three having the "rangefinder" body style with corner viewfinder that helps me stay connected with my subject(s). Simplicity wins!

I've had most of the X Bodies and three of them were the X-E2. Honestly, if they had just added a flip LCD to that body, that's all I'd probably still shoot with. It just fit perfectly in my hand the way my Leicas used to.
The X-E3 was OK, but had too many dials and buttons that I don't need and mostly just got in my way.
The X-E4 (with a grip and thumbgrip) is great, but I miss the popup flash that the X-E2 has and I am super annoyed with the LCD rotating into 'selfie' mode whenever shooting at waist level, but too close to your body. (I'd think a firmware update could solve this, but Fuji doesn't seem to be listening or much interested in Kaizen so much any more.)
    Fun episode Omar.

Hey Omar, been awhile since commenting, enjoyed the video, and I occasionally pull out my X-T1 to have fun and see what I can capture. It's about the same vintage as the X-E2 you have here, and I was able to pick this up a few years ago from Samy's Camera in L. A., it was the last new copy they had left in inventory, and I paid $500 for it brand new. I think when it came out back in 2014, it retailed for around $1,300. I've thought about selling it but I just enjoy it more than I would getting a few hundred bucks for it. It's just a fun camera to shoot. 16MP w/ a 35 f/2 does just great for street. Cheers from Lafayette, LA!!

I Totally agree how much more fun older cameras are. Less features, less automation and definitely less learning curve on the software itself. Also less menu diving. I've had Sony a7 iii and iv, sold them both because I was always lost on what menu I should go to change some AF settings. I didn't mind the a7iv large files either. I like my Fuji x-t4 and x100v but still my x-pro one is the one I love the most.
