Heating also can make bad but not visibly failed power supply capacitors start working temporarily. A high percentage of failures in lcd tv's is electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. I believe the author of this video meant that they replaced capacitors in the P/S, in his description above (rather than "transmitters,") for a more permanent fix. Tech's often use a hair dryer to heat capacitors individually, with the cover off the tv, in order to identify suspected bad components without removing them from the board... I have seen it recommended to replace all electrolytic capacitors near heat sinks in these power supplies as a first thing to try. Kits of capacitors are available for under $10 online, based on the model of the power supply it's self or of the TV model.
#2 is the only effect this had on my TV, and it did not improve anything. I ran it over a board I removed and there was no visible change to the solder in 30 seconds of direct, steady application. This is just a weak correlation, and supposion of effects by the poster (not you Bob). Might as well just set the dryer to blow cool air and use it as a fan.

Have a old model 55" and used a high velocity hair dryer. I didn't use the paper to direct the air flow, but focused the flow over the vent on the same side as the power plug. Thanks for this awesome, money, and time saving fix!
What a dynamic presentation its a great solution if your willing to short out the transistors connected to your dry bulging capacitors , that's why it does that, yes you can heat up the now totally dry capacitors or transistors and temporarily raise the capacitance. Until the power shorts out between the foil and the cap housing in which case you just changed a small problem into a multi transistor and capacitor problem. You can also freeze your 1117 transistors to make them do the task, but that doesn't fix the problem. Its like if you don't want to drive a car without air in the tires, a good way to solve that is attaching another car to you're car pulling alleviating the problem of having tires..... I know this might blow everyone's minds, take a screwdriver that 1 that looks like a plus sign and take the 12 screws out of the back and look at the capacitors just look at them, see if you can find "one of these things is not like the others". LOL it will take you all of the same amount of time.

IT WORKS !!!! I have been having this problem for weeks now and was going to buy a new tv but thanks to your video i dont have too now ....Thank you so much :)
It worked!!! was skeptical but thought what they hey, got nothing to lose. Did it for abt 30-45 seconds once and started seeing power light starting to flash - it was a steady light before. Then tried it a few more times 30-45 seconds at a time and lo and behold it came on! Just in time for March madness! Seriously, thanks for the tip. It worked.....!!! I have a Samsung le 40 n8 lcd tv from 2007...the problem was a little different to this one.....My tv would switch on for around 5 mins ...then switch off and back on....but this time the on /off cycle would last only 1 min.... so while it was clicking on and off I used an electric floor heater and moved it back an forth across the vents for 1 min and the tv stayed on...and has now been on for over and hour....Thank You...!!!
Our TV quit playing last night. Just went blank and would not come back on. Really did not want to go buy a new TV until at least the credit cards closed for this billing cycle. Scouring the internet, I came across this trick that is probably temporary but actually did work as crazy as it sounds. I took the wife's hair dryer and blew hot air into the back of the TV for about 30 seconds and low and behold the TV came back on. Don't know if it was dust or maybe a loose connection but hey it worked!!!
@@rromero1318 no it worked like normal for awhile until last year when I stopped watching TV. I didn't turn it on for about 3 months, then I couldn't turn it on at all after that no matter how long I used the hair dryer.
i have this problem the only thing i can assume is that when left overnight the temp dropped in the house and maybe contracted solder somewhere on the board (dry solder) and so by heating up the tv with a hairdry allows the solder to expand and thus make a good connection and enable the tv to work again. the only way to fix this i see is to use a soldering iron to re-melt the solder on the board to make a good connection again, the problem is that its a process of elimination and to re-solder every point will be time consuming. but wont be too hard. again you may have a differnt problem but dry solder has been a problem in electronics for as long as i can remember......
Thanks to god first and Thank u very much for ur help mine was working tryed for a minute hair dryer i could cost so much money plz don’t give up if it’s not working trying for minute plz keep try
This worked for me too. Thanks so much. I was skeptical and tried it anyway. And it worked the way you suggested. The TV even powered on by itself, first time in over a week. It was a power outage that caused the issue I had been having. Was about to abandon all hope and buy a new TV which would have set me back $500. BTW mine is a Phillips model. Thanks again and you can consider me a NEW subscriber😀
Thank you Borther ! It did work with the hair dryer ! It took with mine tv much longer than 50seconds but it worked' also i did the under back side of my tv with the hairdryer and it seems that that also helped ! Thank you!
After a week of no TV and having viewed a number of 'solutions' on YT, yours actually solved the problem (whatever it was!) after the 2nd attempt!! Thank you! :) #ILoveSimpleLifeHacks
If you have this issue it may be the cooling fan inside. If the fan/s cannot spin it sends this information to board which switches everything off to avoid overheating. the hairdryer works in this case by giving the fan enough momentum for a seized fan (likely from dust and grease mixed to form a paste) to reach an RPM the minor power supply can take over. This is why once a tv is cold you have the repeat problem. Try this with compressed air if available and you may realize the heat from hair dryer is irrelevant. If its your issue like mine you can replace for $5-15
You looked so sure it was going to work that makes me think you´ve experienced that result before. I do not think a common hair drier can reach such a high temperature as to resolder a cold joint. Cheers.
