Reasons: (1) re-fuses bad solder joint: manufactors had to leave traditional lead-tin solder and have tried silver and tin combinations... which have been known to fatigue or "crack open" and sometimes "low heat" will cause re-fusing....(2) Dust and pet dander conducting small voltages to wrong places(3) GROUNDING SCREWS on circuit boards loosen; heat re-fuses or tightens screws by expanding their size -- see other video where a cycling tv "cured" by opening the back and tightening all screws, but primarily the one on main power board to shield/chassismetal backing.

Heating also can make bad but not visibly failed power supply capacitors start working temporarily. A high percentage of failures in lcd tv's is electrolytic capacitors in the power supply.
I believe the author of this video meant that they replaced capacitors in the P/S, in his description above (rather than "transmitters,") for a more permanent fix.
Tech's often use a hair dryer to heat capacitors individually, with the cover off the tv, in order to identify suspected bad components without removing them from the board...
I have seen it recommended to replace all electrolytic capacitors near heat sinks in these power supplies as a first thing to try. Kits of capacitors are available for under $10 online, based on the model of the power supply it's self or of the TV model.

What are the grounding screws? or how to know which ones?

    • @EnsignRedshirtRicky
      @EnsignRedshirtRicky 6 років тому

#2 is the only effect this had on my TV, and it did not improve anything. I ran it over a board I removed and there was no visible change to the solder in 30 seconds of direct, steady application. This is just a weak correlation, and supposion of effects by the poster (not you Bob). Might as well just set the dryer to blow cool air and use it as a fan.

Wait... You need more than 350°C for re-use bad joins... Can a hair dryer get that temperature?

You SIR, are the Man. My old SAMSUNG LN46A750R1FXZA TV started turning off and on this morning. Search through UA-cam and your video was the last of 12 videos I seen and your method worked. Grabbed my wife hair dryer and went to work and the TV is now work. Thanks from NYC...

IT WORKS!..Kept my 2002 40" samsung lcd TV alive for 5 more years now..(it started 5 years ago...2014..couldn't turn it back on once I shut it off)....mine is used for a laptop monitor-I get all my tv from internet and netflix..You have to keep an input signal to it at ALL TIMES(you CAN'T SHUT IT OFF).. or it will cool off and not turn back on...if you screw up and it loses signal input long enough and it won't boot back up just take the hairdryer on high and aim it into to the upper vents(my LIPS board is on the left hand side looking at the screen..yours may be on right and not a LIPS board)..works every time for 5 years now..I have screwed up many times..!.I have a new LIPS board just too lazy to replace it

As pathetic this may look, it actually worked for me!! My tv red light would stay on for a second then blank out. I waited over 12 hours changing and replacing the socket fuse. Nothing. Then came across this video. This guys a life saver.

New reply on "Dear God it worked!!!!! I got a 55"tv $25 in a yard sale because it would have the frozen logo mode on and wouldn't go pass it. I had already taken off the panel so in each section I had the hair dryer for one minute then placed the cover back on and I did 10 mins. Disappointed at first because it didn't work. After I plugged it back on for the second time and held the power button on for 30 seconds now all of the bottons work. Amazing!!!!! Amazing! This guy is a genious save me so much money and I'm so glad I got a this working so easily God bless you !!!! :-)"

Have a old model 55" and used a high velocity hair dryer. I didn't use the paper to direct the air flow, but focused the flow over the vent on the same side as the power plug. Thanks for this awesome, money, and time saving fix!

What a dynamic presentation its a great solution if your willing to short out the transistors connected to your dry bulging capacitors , that's why it does that, yes you can heat up the now totally dry capacitors or transistors and temporarily raise the capacitance. Until the power shorts out between the foil and the cap housing in which case you just changed a small problem into a multi transistor and capacitor problem. You can also freeze your 1117 transistors to make them do the task, but that doesn't fix the problem. Its like if you don't want to drive a car without air in the tires, a good way to solve that is attaching another car to you're car pulling alleviating the problem of having tires..... I know this might blow everyone's minds, take a screwdriver that 1 that looks like a plus sign and take the 12 screws out of the back and look at the capacitors just look at them, see if you can find "one of these things is not like the others". LOL it will take you all of the same amount of time.

I have a Samsung le 40 n8 lcd tv from 2007...the problem was a little different to this one.....My tv would switch on for around 5 mins ...then switch off and back on....but this time the on /off cycle would last only 1 min.... so while it was clicking on and off I used an electric floor heater and moved it back an forth across the vents for 1 min and the tv stayed on...and has now been on for over and hour....Thank You...!!!

Our TV quit playing last night. Just went blank and would not come back on. Really did not want to go buy a new TV until at least the credit cards closed for this billing cycle. Scouring the internet, I came across this trick that is probably temporary but actually did work as crazy as it sounds. I took the wife's hair dryer and blew hot air into the back of the TV for about 30 seconds and low and behold the TV came back on. Don't know if it was dust or maybe a loose connection but hey it worked!!!

i have this problem the only thing i can assume is that when left overnight the temp dropped in the house and maybe contracted solder somewhere on the board (dry solder) and so by heating up the tv with a hairdry allows the solder to expand and thus make a good connection and enable the tv to work again. the only way to fix this i see is to use a soldering iron to re-melt the solder on the board to make a good connection again, the problem is that its a process of elimination and to re-solder every point will be time consuming. but wont be too hard. again you may have a differnt problem but dry solder has been a problem in electronics for as long as i can remember......

If you have this issue it may be the cooling fan inside. If the fan/s cannot spin it sends this information to board which switches everything off to avoid overheating. the hairdryer works in this case by giving the fan enough momentum for a seized fan (likely from dust and grease mixed to form a paste) to reach an RPM the minor power supply can take over. This is why once a tv is cold you have the repeat problem. Try this with compressed air if available and you may realize the heat from hair dryer is irrelevant. If its your issue like mine you can replace for $5-15

it's kinda cheap and annoying solution but if you want to save some bucks, then yeah you'll do it.
remember to use the hair dryer directly on the power supply, or there will be a risk of melting some plastic materials.
thanks for this hot solution Darius,I appreciate it.

It worked!!!!! It took about 30 - 45 seconds on a 55" Samsumg TV. Just used the hairdryer straight in the air slots in the back of the TV. Didn't need the piece of cardboard to direct the air.
