I did 400 miles in the UB19. The outsole is still in great condition, so they are my backup walking shoes now.

Thank you for your review. I loved the UB 1 years ago before the age of daily trainers with superfoams and plates but, in the modern era, $180 is way too much if the UB 5x is only being used as a running shoe and not to look trendy at the Aventura Mall. 😊
@@mtmatt6111 I don’t see why it couldn’t pull double duty? Although once they get dirty the trendiness goes up in smoke!
Ran in the first ultraboost before the line became a lifestyle shoe. Got 600 out of the old boost formulation. What I liked most was the upper and fact it was not affected by cold temperatures. Wonder is this new version would perform similarly.
I would say it's going to perform well in the cold, which is only based on it being a knit upper, but because I live in Florida it is very unlikely I'll get a chance to use them in cold weather.
@@its_Matt_B_ sorry, just reread my post. 😄 I meant to write that the midsole was not susceptible to cold, and hopefully the new version of boost won’t either
@@BamainMn Ahh, I see. I imagine it would perform very similar, as they haven't changed the formulation, but only how the foam beads are put together.
Nice looking shoe and I really like the improvements Adidas has made to the shoe and now it is a running shoe again (although a little on the expensive side). I wonder how it compares with new Adidas Supernova line. I thought Supernova Rise was average but liked Prima.
@@TolunayOrkun I haven’t tried the Prima but I can say the UN5X feels much better than the SNR, but that’s hardly surprising considering the price difference.

Interesting however it’s had for me to consider that foam for the $180 price tag over lightstrike pro. It seems to be a bit overpriced unless you are an Ultraboost fan. Good review.
Yeah, I get it. Everyone wants the best foam for everything. I actually think Lightstrike Pro would work well in this shoe.

How different are they from the SL2. The reason I am asking, They are on sale and I was wondering whether for easy runs they would be a good complement to the SL2 or would they just be redundant?
These are heavier and more substantial than the SL2. The UB5X are more of a traditional and premium daily trainer, where the SL2 is an entry level option. It's tough to say if they compliment each other, but I will say that these will feel better for longer miles and the SL2 will feel better when running faster.
FWIW, outside of running, I think the UB5X look better than the SL2.

All this time, I thought the Ultraboost was their lifestyle line. Can't see where this fits in with all the other Adidas trainers.
@@MyFatAdaptedLife It seems to me that the Ultra Boost line was a lifestyle line until the 5X. You know the old saying that it takes a village? Well, that’s not the correct saying, but it apparently takes a village of shoes to make the whole lineup!

I'd like a comparo vid tween UB5X & the Adidas Supernova Rise
They're comparable in a lot of ways but the UBX5 feels 100 times better on foot. The UB5X are way more premium feeling. Also the price makes them difficult to compare because at the moment the Rise are only $110. The UB5X are better, but not $70 better.
I ran in like every ultraboost, I liked the 20 and the original one the most, I am now using the 22 over the light, except in tempo work i prefer the light, i have both and rooting for the 22 more.
Do you think the 5x is more similar to the light or the 21/22 in terms of the softness, and with the "speedier" parts of the light?
I had the UB21, but I can't remember the level of softness it had. I still have the UB Light, and I can say that the new 5X feel a lot better to run in. The 5X are very slightly softer than the UBL.
adidas is getting confusing between the supernova line, the adistar, and now this imo

@@jshbld6582 I haven’t worn the UB 1.0, but I can say that Adidas has historically been very consistent with their sizing for me.
Are these ones similar to ASICS kayano?
@@carlosbritto32 Not really. The Gel-Kayano are stability shoes, so they have features built in to control how your foot lands and pushes off. The 5X are a neutral running shoe so they aren’t made to guide your feet.

5x better than previous version ……..but still lag behind the best daily trainer of other leading brands such as novablast 4, puma deviate nitro 3, endorphin speed 4, new balance rebel 4 or 860, Hyperion 2, Clifton 9 etc….. so I will not buy until the ultra boost x10 version…. 😂😂😂… glad to see that the plastic guardrails are gone…… but….I will buy the SL2 very soon. 😊
There sure is a lot of competition from similar shoes. The SL2 is money well spent, even at it's full price!
Very helpful review, Matt! No I haven't paid much attention to the Ultra Boost line, only knowing that it's one of many Adidas lines that look like actual running shoes but might or might not be. It sounds like this is a really good one and it seems that some do slip through now and then, whether by plan or by accident. But it's pricey for a daily trainer and I probably have too many shoes in the active rotation that fit that niche already (and more waiting in boxes in the closet.) Still waiting for that Cloudmonster to drop...
It's a sad truth to acknowledge, but we can't get every pair of running shoes that catches our eye!
What's that about the Cloudmonster? Drop in price?

I had the UB 19 and 21, and sold BOTH of them after one run. TOOOO firm. Swore to NEVER buy adidas again.
I ran in the UN21, so I get it. Still, I suggest at least trying the UB5X. It's not a super plush ride, but it feels comfortable and feels more like a running shoe than any UB that has come before.
Adidas does have good running shoes. Writing off an entire brand based on just one model is a bit too harsh. In particular, Adizero SL2, Takumi Sen 10, Boston 12, Adios Pro 3 are good shoes. I also liked Supernova Prima (as an easy day/recovery) shoe and suspect would be similar to this new version of UB 5X.
@@TolunayOrkun SUPPOSEDLY the UB19 was a great shoe, and the UB21 was SUPPOSED to be even better and SOFTER. NOPE!
