As an UltraBoost fan, the reason behind the name “5” is pretty much straight forward. 1 refers to the original, or you may call, the DNA, both caged and uncaged. 2 refers to 19 and 20 that share similar design. 3 refers to 21 and 22 that also share similar design. 4 refers to Light that is visually distinguishable from its predecessor. 5 = the latest model that’s also quite distinguishable.
A UB5 versus UB5X comparison video would be awesome. It “seems” like the UB5 is the more casual version (with cage) while the UB5X (no cage/17 grams lighter) is the runner focused model.
Really smooth colorway, and love the midsole. My biggest hesitation is the tongue - one of the things that drew me to the UBs originally was how the silhouette lended itself to easily slipping in and out (in addition to the comfort)
Last year , the shoes I used to ran the most was the Ultraboost Light. Was so comfortable and also very versatile that I was addicted to use it a lot. But it had two things I did not like and that should be improved : the grip for the toe off was not enough and the foam off the forefoot was a bit too little. Now with this Ultraboost 5X Adidas put more foam stack and made a larger area of Continental rubber for toe off ! Now this model is on the top of my buy list !
As an Ultraboost fan (casual use) I like that they didn’t make it crazy soft like NB 1080 or Nimbus 26 I think the amount of softness on the previous model was the right amount and IMO the 5 or the 5x looks so much better than previous models too. Can’t wait to get my hands on the triple black color for these.
Bummer I was hoping it could match the cushion of the Gel Nimbus 26. I switched over to that this year and I would have liked to get back to the boost because of how nice they are aesthetically. But man nothing can compare to the comfort of the Nimbus
@@theq937 I had new balance 1080 v13 and they are crazy soft I felt unstable on them I didn’t try Nimbus because of how they look , the good thing about ultraboost they’re very stable, comfortable foam and best part that prime net is so fucking good to my toes 😎.
right bruh, many idiots out there have no idea what they're talking about. If you want super crazy soft midsole, go get Nike invincible run or Adidas Repetitor. Ultraboost is not meant to be super soft, or else it defeats the purpose of energy return.
Fantastic video! I’m interested in the UB 5X for easy runs, walking, and casual. It’s kind of crazy that Adidas has the UB5, Supernova and Adizero SL2 which all seem to be for the same kinds of runs with lots of overlap between the shoes. It’s like they made the “same” shoe for different consumer markets/tastes.
Soft and squishy normally means pain in the heel for me as my feet lean. I took your recommendations on the Invincible Runs a couple years ago and that shoe revealed that I have supination. Most recently bought a pair of Asics Nimbus 25 and samething. I always go back to the ultra blue because they give comfort and stability so my feet don’t lean and I am hoping these the same sturdiness as the other ultra.
Maybe you should look for shoes in “support” or “stability” category. Though they are mostly for overpronation not supination. Newest stability shoes like Saucony Guide 17 or Hurricane 24 don’t push you from one side but tries to keep feet in central so those will hopefully work for you.
I have a few pairs of the ultraboost 21 very comfortable shoe, easy to wear casually but im glad they got rid of the chunky heel with the ultraboost 5...looks alot better
Passed on the 21, 22's but am surely going to grab these (there's also a 5X version - more stack height). Liking it a lot. Saw a black upper/dark grey-pink midsole colourway. Tops to Adidas in addressing the lack of midsole boost in the forefoot area.
Big Ultraboost fan I’m looking forward to trying these. I really think the 19 and 20’s are the comfiest but the 1 and 4’s look the best. I wish they would combine them and make the ultimate Ultraboost.
Hope you'd try the adidas runfalcon 5 which is a teardown model of the ultraboost 5 which uses cloudfoam, and the ultrarun 5 which is another takedown model that uses bounce 2.0 cushion. Thanks for the great reviews always.
My favorite ultraboost is the ST version. It's wide with detached tongue. I have three pairs from 2017 2018 and 2019. They are still in good shape (the glue they used really good). Adidas needs to bring the ultraboost st back.
Hes Thanks for another great video. You are one of the first individuals to provide a review of the new Ultraboost 5X! Thank you for your honest review and footage of these shoes on feet. I think these shoes will be a hit!
Great review as always.. 💪💪💪 I will definitely buy the triple black version.. The only think that i wanted fom this model to be perfect was the tongue that you also mentioned... I love the original UB puffy tongue... Other than that it looks and probably feels great
My mom loves the ultraboost 2. She will never give up on those. If there is a pair in Adidas or another brand that is the most similar to Ultraboost 2 then I would be happy to hear?
Where would these rank in your Disneyland scenario? For low prices, the adidas outlet near me has 50% off the UB light plus a coupon of 30 off 150 plus you can add your credit card to Rakuten to get another small rebate back. Sadly, they don’t carry wide which I need.
I much prefer this new iteration of this UB and I even like this color way. Never really cared for the oversized off set heal look of some of the previous versions. This is a buy on sale but I’m not a fan of this new crazy pricing of almost $200 for a regular shoe. I realize this shoe does offer some things but there is no crazy tech and this shoe really seems to lean towards the casual crowd over the performance crowd. I like it for casual but at this price there are better options for performance even from Adidas.
I use my ultraboost for gardening and landscaping. I use it for running as well. Been looking for a replacement with full rubber sole for longevity. Was thinking of nb rebel v4 or adidas boston. This one might tick the box.
I think that the naming is based the big changes in the ultra boost line, the 20, 21, 22 and the light boost. All of those got the junk in the trunk!lol This would be the fifth in that lineup.
I use to love ultraboost but when I try on the newer releases they are all narrow and shallow, idk why they fit so small even when sized up. Sad because I have so many pair of older ultraboost that I love.
You mentioned that you prefer 1.0 tongue. Can you compare an old original 1.0 vs a new 1.0 from the store today? It's strange but I've found the upper has changed and now the new 1.0 actually hurts the top of my foot while the originals that i have in my rotation are all fine. I think something has changed. I'm regards the 5, i think it's one I'm definitely getting. Waiting on some more neutral colours to show up at my store. Not a fan of the coloured sole.
I just got a 990V6 for daily wear and called it a day. Cant keep up with the boosts and their changes anymore. Also tired of my boosts wearing down in a year.
I think they look like the duramo speed shoes, although I have no idea how the duramo speed feels I suppose I would prefer these new ultra boost considering the tech in the shoe.
Nice review. It looks good.. I have a question though. Yesterday I tried the UB lite in. Y size (14). My big toes were rubbing a little on the sides. Ultimately I went with a Boston 12. Is this any wider at the big toe area?
I wear 9.5 on Light Gtx and Light Cold Rdy versions, size 9 fits me snug but okay on standart Light version, but when i try these even size 8.5 was a little bit loose, i think they f’d up the sizes on this one (btw im a size 9.5 on all Nike shoes)
The numbering is so stupid (probably cause they did 1-4 in 3 years and then started naming it by year) and I hate adidas sizing inconsistencies but I'm always interested in the latest boost
This really lacks the Boost capsules. It looks more Lightstrike than Boost. The toebox looks like it is trying to emulate the 990v5 or other similar dad sneakers. Lastly, the outsoles look more Pureboost than anything.
Looks like yet another ultraboost Adidas will refuse to make wide sizes for. Sucks because i would totally buy some as I would like a firm option compared to my nimbus 25.
Why cry about the price. It will eventually get double discounted at the adidas app. Patience is a virtue. I got my UB light for 50 bucks brand new in women sz 10.5
ive totally escaped ultraboost hype, just ordered ultraboost 1 and they are choking my feet in ankle area like crazy, literally can feel blood supply being limited, even going 2 sizes up. Insane.. while having always true to size Nikes or new rebel shoes without any issue true to size
