Nice detailed video. In my testing I've found that if my car loses it's gps location while parked (sleeping) in my garage it won't auto-close. My workaround is to open the Tesla app and click location. This seems to help but is another step. I may just turn off auto close. Auto-open works every time and is a really nice feature. As for the pricing, one thing about the subscription is it's associated with your myq account so if you have multiple Teslas you only need to pay once where as you would need homelink for each car. Also if you sell your car, you would need to purchase the homelink module again. They should really consider lowering the annual price to $19.95. They would get more that 2X people willing to pay. Once again, thanks for producing such detailed videos. 🙂
Thanks! Interesting about losing GPS location. I haven't seen that in my use. I mention in the video one of the benefits is that one myQ subscription can cover multiple cars. That is definitely a point if you have more than one Tesla w/o Homelink. I agree with the price reduction.
Thank you for the detailed review. I was looking for some clues as to why mine works so inconsistently in spite of changing the location pin, distance etc for the auto functions. The on screen controls work perfectly but for the auto function, it opens about 80% of the time and closes about 50% of the time. It is definitely not meeting "wife approval" status - lol! For the money it costs, it needs to be flawless. Wish me luck as I fiddle some more and try their tech support before the trial ends.
I have also read that some people are getting inconsistent auto functions - mostly with the closing. How is the Wi-Fi connection? Yes, it should work 100%. Good luck!
@@MTNRanger Bingo. I have read that the function has issues handing off from Wifi to LTE. When I drive away by the time the close function triggers I am at the very edge of Wifi coverage from my garage Eero and switching over LTE. Sometimes it works fine, and when it doesn't I am relagated to either pushing the garage door transmitter button, or giving Siri (on watch or phone) a voice command to close the door.
Yes, I’ve had plans for a mini-split heat pump since the garage was built. I have pre-run the electrical circuit to support it. It’s tough when you have two kids in college!
Over the one month trial, it only failed to close a couple times. Perhaps when the car goes to sleep and wakes up, it needs time for the geolocation (just a guess). It may also depend on you wifi strength. It worked better than the Homelink, which fails to auto open/close for me due to my need to reverse the car into the garage.
This doesn't work for me anymore. My model 3 became unlinked from my MyQ account. When I tried to re-link it following the QR code, it takes me to the website that says this website is no longer being serviced and defers me to the app I see no way of adding my vehicle via the app.
Interesting I have not heard about this. Frankly, I feel Chamberlain is charging too much for this access. Does your mylink account still work if you log into it on a PC or phone?
@@MTNRanger yes, the app works fine. I just noticed recently that when I pull up to the house the garage door didn’t open. Maybe after this most recent update. I’m not certain, I may contact support, although I am a bit weary and exhausted of support lately. I’ve been working with Tesla for two weeks to repair my solar power wall system. Turns out all they had to do was reconfigure something remotely. cost me about hundred dollars. very frustrated with Tesla right now. Yes, the service is very expensive. They have $300 of my money for 10 years. Not such a good deal when it doesn’t work at all.
@@MTNRangerWell,I got it to work. I’m not entirely certain how. I had tried it several times using the QR code. It took me to the webpage. It seems like it defaulted to web sign in. I think this time I reselected app sign in. If I get bored at some point, I may unlink it and try again. 😝
I would NEVER pay a company like this an inordinate amount for the privilege to have my information and having to call a single API to update state of a frigging door. I already paid for the hardware! The day Tesla provides the option of HomeKit or similar that’s self-managed I will consider, these companies that want to fleece customers with a subscription are certainly horrible.
@@MTNRanger oh, don’t get me wrong, if they made it a $10 one time fee I’d be front of line, I’m all for paying developers to do good things, I just can’t justify the stupidity of a subscription for this, as you said the app does the same darn thing and it’s free!!!
@@MTNRanger one can discuss value, but when the real value is transmitting an api request over internet which otherwise is already free, it’s just no argument. I would consider paying for FSD because it has actual value.

Why don’t you just use the app on your iPhone which has no additional subscription fee?
@@ArnoldWinters The app doesn't offer auto-open/close features. If cost is your biggest concern, yes, go with the app.

Can I put more than one device on my Tesla? I have a garage door and a gate. I’d like to put both on the MyQ
I don't think MyQ supports gates. Usually they are HomeLink. Check with your gate to see what it is compatible with.
What have you done to the door handles???
It’s an accessory I installed almost a year ago.

You could add a heat pump for Garage for cooling/heating your Garage!

myq works good for auto open but the auto close doesn't alway auto close...do you know what to do to improve it?

I use my smart phone to manually open and close my garage using myQ, I don't mind taking an additional 10 seconds to do it.
That's a perfectly reasonable solution!

of course it will work in reverse. It's using the internet not radio like homelink. It amazes me how people dont understand this.
Of course I know how it works. I'm demonstrating it versus HomeLink.
