Very helpful video, thank you 👍
Another great install video Paul....Thank you...
This myQ smart garage door opener is definitely awesome addition to my old and load garage door.😆

The fact that you pay a subscription subscription socks especially when you already have that functionality on your phone
it’s more like convenience fee so you have to pull out your phone open the app to open and close the garage door. I’ll test it for a month and see if it’s worth it.

Appreciate the video. I think the subscription kills it for me.
It’s cheaper to just purchase a basic garage remote with a numeric keypad. The keypad allows you to use a PIN# and keeps people from breaking into your car to gain access to garage via the standard remote.
At first I bought this for using it on my phone because I had to buy a second remote for my Model Y anyway. But this device was the same price as a regular garage opener remote so I went with this one. Tesla control function is a bonus for me, I didn't want to pay for subscription either but after my wife I've been using it for a month now. She told me it's so convenient that she's willing to pay $4/mo for it.

@@dadstoyscarswife doesn’t make wise financial decisions
@@jas.y666 she is an accountant 😬
@jas.y666
Financial decisions are usually personal. If you lease a car adding the rf transmitter doesn’t make sense. If your in an area people want to break into your house a hand held remote is a no go. If you make $300,000 a year spending time opening a garage door might actually be a waste of money.
For me. I’m probably not going to get the service.
Great installation video 👍🏾
Thank you for watching and your awesome support!🙏😃
This would peferct for my Chicago home. Awesome review!
This is such an awesome low cost solution for most people with existing garage door opener.
Thank you for your awesome support Nathen!🙏😃
Like your video, keep up your good work. I also had myQ installed for my garage. But $45 per year subscription is ridiculous. I will keep using my garage remote, or just open my phone app to open the garage door.
Thank you Henry!
I agree it’s more like convenience fee so you have to pull out your phone open the app to open and close the garage door. I’ll test it for a month and see if it’s worth it.

Dang these companies really get you on these subscription fees. I hate it.
Yes, they try to hook you with free 30 days and charge you after. But man after we’ve been using it for a few days with how convenient it is, I might go for one year subscription. 😬

@@dadstoyscars yup exactly. It’s the convenience of it all. 😁👍🏼
Tesla should partner for entire home automation . Once you leave and garage door closes the house locks automatically and asks if you want to turn on alarm) . You may not want too as other people still in the house. As you enter driveway, exterior lights come one , garage door opens, inside mudroom light comes one and alarm is disabled. This tesla home automation would be awesome. Please suggest to Tesla
I feel like you live in the Inland Empire because that garage looks just like mine
What's the point because chamberlain is charging a ridiculous subscription fee. Maybe at $4.99/year max, yes. I'm using the old school way of pressing the button on the garage door opener and have the backup on my phone. I won't be surprised if Tesla discounts the homelink sometime in the future.
Great video I use this on my model 3 and it works awesome keep up the great work you are doing
Thank you!!
That’s awesome! I love how convenient it is to use in my Tesla. It’s definitely worth it!
Thank you so much for watching and your awesome support Robert!🙏😃
Great video. I just set up myQ today too. It was so easy. The subscription fee is definitely lame, but I was considering the Homelink add on, and this option is definitely cheaper AND could work on multiple cars (versus the Homelink which is a cost per vehicle). Yet another reason to buy another Tesla someday. 😊
Thank you Tony!
I know subscription fee seem a lot but after we’ve been using it this past few days. I think we’re subscribing on a one year plan. The convenience that it adds to your daily routine is definitely worth $3.75/mo!

Does not worth it. I will continue to use my clicker to open the garage or use myQ with my phone.
Cheaper to buy the Tesla garage door opener at $300 installed. I will just use the remote and save $300.
Thanks for the video. I finally got it installed but it was a real PITA. It had to update the software twice. I also have a problem with it going offline for some reason.
I think I only had to re-login about 2 times since installed it. Other than that no issue at all.

Not sure if you got this sorted. I work in IT. It’s probably something to do with it not being a 2.4ghz network.
Thanks for the video and great walkthrough. You mentioned your garage door is making a lot of noise since it's old. No worries, get yourself a can of garage door lubricant at Lowe's or Home Depot and spray enough, and not too liberal, the rollers, hinges, and coil spring. Then cycle your garage door open/close a few times. You can do the same with your car windows using silicone lubricant to extend the lifetime of the motors inside of the doors as they are quite expensive to replace. I'd do this maintenance once a year. For the car windows, lightly spray along the base, ensuring to not get any on the paint or interior as you'll want to do both sides of the glass. Some overspray on the rubber seal is okay. Bring windows up and down a few times and wipe up any excess lubricant. Whoala, you've saved yourself a bunch of $$$ and headaches down the road.
Thank you for your great suggestions!
I will definitely do that.

Making sure the chain is adjusted is also important. The gears inside my 30 year old unit stripped out. I replaced them and it’s still going strong.
Did you wall Mount that surge protector?
Subscription for a garage opener is wild. Not sure I want to do that now.
Nice video , hoping to get m3 rwd Next wek , hopefully they update that damn tesla vision , coz i wish there were sensors.
Congrats on your Model 3 and enjoy your new ride!

MyQ used this have Google Voice Commands, but they took that away a year ago. IF you plan to keep your Tesla & house... you may as well have Treks instant the part for $350 to get same access for life. Another on EveryDayChris mentioned Tailwind or Trailwind GDoor Opener, adding a part to MyQ will cost less than $100 to do the same thing (though you will need their App! But can control up to 3 GDoors.
Thank you for the info, I will those out.

App on the phone works just fine and its free however the downside of this gadget which I noticed if your garage door for whatever reasons malfunctions then the application will not notify you rather it would just say open or closed which in itself would an incorrect status of your garage door.
I think you're right, since the device doesn't connect directly to your garage opener It won't be able to tell if it malfunctioned.
Thank you for watching!
I tried to install the MyQ but can't find the HomeLink icon on my tesla screen. Do I need to install Tesla Homelink before the icon appears? if yes, then what is the essence of the myQ?
I was looking at this yesterday, the subscription fee kills it. The free remote is sufficient!
At first I bought this for using it on my phone because I had to buy a second remote for my Model Y anyway. Thank you for the video; can the device control the non-g garage door? Or do you need two sets for two garage doors? And subscription? $45 for one garage or?
It can connect to traditional garage door opener but you would have to check it on the website for the list of compatible brand.
I pay $45 annually subscription per account which could use on 2 Teslas. I’m not sure about controlling and paying for one account for 2 garages.
Thank you for watching and your great support!🙏😃
Thanks for the great video! Unfortunately I will be returning the myQ as the Tesla subscription fee is ridiculous. Tesla sucks that way for not including homelink.
Appreciate your comment.
I’m paying one subscription fee for both model 3 and Y so it seems more reasonable for me.
It would be great if they would stop charging for this function.

I wonder what the buttons on the front of the unit do. It seems like they should open the doors. But don’t see instructions for that
Thank you for your great video. Can this device work with a sliding gate? Not sure where the wireless sensor attached to the garage door could be on a sliding gate.
Appreciate your comment.
I don’t think it would work with sliding gate because the opening and closing directions is different but you try to contact the device manufacturer for confirmation.

@@dadstoyscars Many thanks for your kind reply
Great walkthrough of the install and use, especially with the Tesla. I'm headed the same way rather than the Tesla Homelink.
Now I have both Tesla connected to myQ with free trail. My first month free was up and try to subscribe but they don't subscription program ready so I'm on second free trail. :)

I thought I was gonna have to pay to have Tesla connect HomeLink or buy a wifi garage door opener and pay for the installation. This is WAY easier. I'm also setting up this for touch-less garage door opening and closing.
I installed the MyQ, it was really easy to install and works great, very simple and effective.
@@WalkingEng,
I’m hoping it goes well and excited to use it.
Question...Let's assume it's all installed and working great. At the start of the day, when you are leaving home, do you have to open the garage door initially with the app before leaving or will it open when you start your vehicle.
You can manually open from your car main menu display. It will show on top of your main menu as soon as you get in the car from your garage.

Also, is there a way to set auto open close if you have your phone on you in the car without being connected to the Tesla?
No, they don’t offer that option in the phone app. I guess they want user to pay for subscription in the car app to get that option.
Waiting on mine to arrive! As a gadget guy this is definitely a must for the auto-open/close feature alone.
Agree, I’ve been using it for over a month now and they still don’t subscription available yet so I just another month of free trial unit whenever the subscription is available.

How did you get to page where it showed myQ Connected Garage? My garage door opener is already has it build in and right now I can use the myQ app to open the garage so I don't think I need this device or do I in order for the myQ Connected Garge to show on the tesla screen? I have version 2023.12 and the screen looks so much different.
Did you go to the locks section in the main menu and scroll all the way down and it should be there the button to link your MyQ account to your Tesla.

I have myQ for the garage for years just for the the garage doors opening and closing notifications and to ensure I actually closed it before driving to work in the morning. My MXP comes with the tesla homelink but the new MYP. I rather spend the money on a legit Tesla homelink addon rather than the myQ subscriptions especially when myQ always got bugs and you need to replace the battery on the sensor once every 18 to 24 months before its went dead without giving you any notice in advance. BTW. you probably end up reconnect the sensor to the myQ hub again by deleting it and add back on. Don['t waste money on myQ subscription.
One question ..what if I enter my driveway in reverse and park in garage. Will garage door still open? Just want to be sure if all possibilities and not run into some weird quirk where it doesn’t work
Yes, It will still auto open for you. I do that everyday.
Can you still use it if you don't get the subscription? Like is there a button on the screen to open it? So I don't have to leave the remote in the car
It won’t connect to the car if you didn’t subscribe. But you still can use app on the phone.
Thank you for watching!

Terrible we must buy a subscription, My last 5 new cars have had it built in , Come on Tesla do it right
I wish it was free too. I don’t think Tesla charge the subscription fee. You actually have to pay it to myQ because they provide the service to Tesla to implement into their software.
Thank you for watching Rex!

I have a question ? Within my house I can enter the garage through my mudroom . I then get inside my Tesla and tap the brake to either move stalk down or up. Will the garage door automatically open for me??
The garage won't open just putting your car in drive. You have tap one the screen to manually open it. Here is how to do it: ua-cam.com/users/shortswJApHbwy4YY
Should you set garage location when inside your garage or on your driveway? Is there any difference?
Not that big difference. I tried both. Hi can set it either side of the garage and you should be fine.

@@dadstoyscars do we also have option to integrate smart light so that the exterior lights and inside garage light turn on as we enter. I would find this useful when going to my cottage at night!
@@AMPed. that I’m not sure but you can add many of their devices on the app.
Nice vid. Was wondering how this work. Seems it's not worth it lol.
I bought this device because I needed to buy another garage opener remote. Tesla integration was just a bonus to me but after I've been using for a few weeks now, I decided to do 1 year subscription because it's just very convenient to use.

Not a bad video but why do you have one spring on your garage door that's not the best idea use two springs

What a world. They now want to sell a subscription to open your garage door from your car. What's wrong with this picture? Why are we going backwards? AMAZING INNOVATION TESLA!

I think myQ is for US cars only.

Hi. Can you program the MyQ from your **phone** (not the Tesla) so that it opens the garage door when you come within 30ft from your garage door?
No, you can not. The only offer open/close wirelessly anywhere and let Amazon drop packages off in your garage.

Idk what so exciting about this invention like everyone was saying all it is, A garage door remote connected to internet with Gyroscope stick to garage door.
Freshmen programmer can do it easy and still and big engineering team proud of it 😅. And still not perfect they could have came up with better solution instead of beeping, some extra detection sensors or something.
The only reason I’m excited about this device because it cost the same or less for me to buy another physical garage door remote but with this device I can close my garage from anywhere in the world if I happen to forget to close it and more.
Thanks for watching!
Tesla should have built in garage door opener for price of car.
does it work with more than one car?
I haven’t try it yet but I’m it will work with more than one car since it could connect to multiple devices.

Subscription model is dumb. I was excited and ready to get MyQ setup I have garage link in my tesla MyQ is good but only to check status and close garage in case of forgot, but regular there is no use everyone going to complain about that shitty beeping very first.
You said "I'm probably going to pay for it after the free trial". What's the alternative? You don't pay for it, then what? you now have to go back to opening it with your phone?
If I didn’t subscribe then I have to use the phone to open and close.

Anyone have MyQ in multiple cars? I can’t get the App in one of my teslas to activate. Keeps asking me to sign up w a trial but I purchased a subscription. Happened after an update this is annoying considering it’s not Free like my Aladdin garage door was!
I have MyQ on both Model 3 and Model Y. I also only need to sign up for one account and pay one subscription fee for both cars. So I basically only need to pay $45/year for 2 cars.

I bought a second remote for my garage door and it took seconds to program. Why would you spend $500+ to install the Tesla homelink device and then pay MyQ $11 a month to use it???
I only paid $45 a year for 2 cars with MyQ
Do you need the Tesla internet package to use this?
I’m not 100% sure but I assume you would need to have premium connectivity on your Tesla so MyQ app in the car can connect to internet and your home Wi-Fi to open garage door.

nice video, but same as everyone else, do not like that lame subscription fee. Everything is about subscription now... ridiculous.
I have like 5 garage openers, no reasons for me to buy new hardware and still have to pay a monthly fee.
Thank you!
I was trying to subscribe for at least one year but the option was not available yet.
So they gave me another month free trail which is great!
Thank you for watching Brandon!

Deceiving thumbnail. Tesla myQ is subscription based. myQ itself is $20.00 not related to Tesla.
I had MYQ for several years and never subscribed. I always use the app on the phone to open/close the garage. Why pay for extra fee when all you need to do is click on the app. Unless someone is being picky then that is a different story.
Its $29 now
Subscription is super lame!!!
I agree! But after I’ve been using it on my Tesla for a week now, that convenience feature with auto open and close function might be worth $4/mo.

Oh no, you don’t put in your car. You install it in your garage and connect to your Wi-Fi at home so you can control your garage door from anywhere using your phone app and your Tesla connect to it via built in internet in the car. Check out the video when you get a chance.

I dont get it, why didnt you just let tesla install homelink afterwards? So you dont pay for the subscribtion...
Home link is $350 and stuck with one car. MyQ you can use with any car or phone and if you sold your car you still have it for your next car. Unlike Homelink it's stuck with the car and if you sold the car then you no longer have it.

Subscription to open your own garage is LAME!
One does not need this myQ subscription. All you need is Sonoff WiFi relay switch, with inching set to 0.5 seconds to act as a button press of a wired door switch
Subscription for something free, no thanks!

I won’t pay some BS fee to open my own G..D…. Garage door.
Just use ur phone!
The subscription is expensive just for a minor convenience. I’ll pass.
Dont do it do not install my q they will charge you to make it work
Rip off
A sub fee…hard pass
It worked out okay for me. I subscribed one year $45 and I can use for both cars which mean $22.5 per car and $1.8/month per car. I didn’t know before that more than one can use the same account and one subscription until I decided to subscribe.
Why bother this. You could just purchase Tesla home link, $300.
Home link is $350 and stuck on one car. With this if you sell your car and get another Tesla you still can use it with no extra installation because it’s software base not hardware like Homelink.
Thank you for watching!🙏😃
@@dadstoyscars remember, homelink can set up 3 garages doors at one shot with a lot of features such close the door when your leave 20 feet, fold mirrors, …. And you can also see what is going on inside the garage through “Sentry mode” with live camera.
@@jblee3264 MyQ also have the function to set how close is the car to the garage to auto close and open 30-100 feet. Every Tesla comes with sentry mode as a standard feature, it’s not an add on from Homelink device.
All these, you just use Tesla App. Btw, you can even app to control all 3 garage doors (open/close) remotely if you are away from the site of 3 garage doors.
Btw, you spend significant money to drive Tesla, why you want to install the cheap MyQ for Tesla? Wearing a $3000 dress with a $15 sneaker can be your preference. It is just too wasted
