Dev, I am 100% not joking here: The reason phone videos are backward is that someone once had the hypothesis that people might experience some sort of dysphoria by seeing themselves on video if it doesn't match what they see in the mirror. So the default behavior for the front camera is always mirrored. It's easy to change, but many people don't.
I’m really annoyed about my camera because I can’t undo the mirror effect no matter how many times I enable or disable the toggle.
Usually the preview is reversed but the recording is correct, unless of course you are taking a screen recording of the camera app, which is a thing people do now.

I think the problem is most women have a complex over some aspect of their body - the one boob being bigger than the other, a wonky nose, coke can bottom-sized areolae, too tall, too short, no hips, too wide hips etc etc. As women, we spend hours and hours of wasted time fidgeting over some aspect of our body that we cannot change. The beauty industry, phone camera filters, plastic surgery and mainstream media help perpetuate these complexes in one way or another and rarely, if ever, do we realise that therapy and self-acceptance would be so much easier.
It's not that tall women don't want to date someone shorter than them because they're shorter, it's because she wants to feel like an average height woman - she wants to be protected and feel vulnerable, but she can't because those who would dare to pursue her for a relationship only does so because she's a sexy amazon *in her head*.
A healthy relationship to your body and a healthy, open minded and communicative partner willing to challenge her fears is what every woman needs.
If you want to date an amazon without worrying she'll reject you, you'll have to keep looking and keep proving that you can and do see her as a woman, and that you can help her learn to vocalise her mental hangups.

Especially if you’re in metro areas like DC, and never near the metro stations. I thought I was crazy, but then I saw articles about the disappearance of public restrooms. I’d wager most using a phone have no idea it’s even a feature that can be turned off in the settings (if they’ve even bothered to pay attention at all that the camera is mirrored) - the type of people that don’t even bother digging into the settings on their phone outside of ringtones, text tones, and moving app icons around on the screen.
It’s a problem that is on the same line as those that don’t bother watching a video in full before commenting and pointing out the obvious that has already been stated and won’t read descriptions or captions beyond the “See more…” or “Expand” that is one click away to have all the information they could ever need. The same ones that simply can’t be arsed to read comments before asking questions that are already answered, and they can’t fathom having to open up a tab to search something up on Google to get the answer instantly themselves as it’s somehow better to just ask others and wait for a reply instead.
I’ve found myself having to explain more and more to young adults at work on how to format, save, and correctly upload a simple Word document or PDF file more than I have with older boomers who didn’t bother using PCs for the majority of their lives. It’s always “can’t I just do this on my phone?” and complaining about memorizing keyboard shortcuts to get through things quicker because the keyboard is just “too big and clunky”. Don’t even get me started on having someone scan or print something with the correct settings or heaven forbid someone learns how to use a fax machine every once in a while. Just a constant barrage of “wait, what do I do? What am I supposed to press? What does it mean by orientation? Says low ink, I don’t know how to change that so can someone do that for me?”
I’m just bitchin’ to gripe now because this stuff irks me lol. Bad enough I deal with it at work, but it’s all around us anymore (notably online). The will to not want to learn or do anything beyond the surface is such a problem that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.

I'm baffled by this. I tested this with my phone camera by toggling the "mirror" option several times and literally nothing changed in the photos. Is my phone just lying and only pretending to do this? Considering it can't run UA-cam videos more than 30fps without lighting on god damn fire I almost wouldn't doubt it.
My phone is many years old.
Despite that, when I use the selfie camera, it's smart enough to flip the preview while leaving the actual photo/video recordings in the proper orientation.

The video flipping thing is actually mirror induced dysphoria (probably not the official name). Some people are used to seeing only the mirror image of themselves, so video footage of themselves doesn't match their mental self-image. Flipping the video matches their mirror image.
It's similar to how some people are uncomfortable with hearing their voice on a recording because it doesn't match what they hear when they speak.
