Yeah, people like to say how if it gets curbed you should have been supervising it but they don't understand often it makes the mistake so quickly you have no chance to prevent it. Just during the free demo it was enough to jack up all my wheels in just a couple weeks here in Atlanta.
I’m also suffering from curb rash PTSD. I am now taking control if I think the car may be getting too close to a curb. A couple of weeks ago the car hit a curb while performing a left turn on a divided highway. The rim was badly scraped and some sidewall rubber lost. Fortunately the air in that tire has been steady. So yeah, I know just how you feel about curbs! Thanks for all your great videos. I’m still on V12.3.6 and it’s okay but I am ready for the next set of improvements!
You are more comfortable with FSD making decisions than myself. You push FSD to it's full potential. I will start using my FSD more often and hope to become as confident 💪🏾
Sorry to hear about the curb rash problem. I have been lucky so far, but still driving on 12.3.6. on my HW3 MS. Tired of waiting for 12.5.1.5 and have call in to Tesla to have them explain the delay! Thanks for the demonstration on capabilities for 12.5.3. Big sigh!!
Must be nice to get a buy a new car an get the most latest FSD. Yes I have a 2023 S Plaid and I buy this shit and Tesla gives me months old versions. This is the 2nd time Tesla has done this. I don’t understand why they can’t tell me which version I will be getting before I buy it so I decide if I want it or not.
I feel your pain about “un-requested” vehicle damage. I have yet to own a vehicle undamaged by someone or something else. Even though I am the only one driving my new Y, it has been rear ended in stop and go traffic and chunk of rubber tire from a semi put a ding in the fender. It must be life telling me to focus on happy things.
1) If there’s a priority it should definitely be on not hitting people, rather than curbs. 2) The bigger reason for having trouble with curbs is likely that they are far harder to distinguish than humans. Humans have a distinct shape and usually contrast with the background. Curbs are often the same color as the road and do not always even have a 90 degree rise. 3) The optimal path is often to hug a curb, which, of course, makes any miscalculation more impactful.
Yo, so I had a bit of a mishap with the car's self-driving thing. Before I could even blink, I ended up scraping the car. Tesla really needs to get on fixing this curb issue, ASAP!
Reduced nag while looking at screen if you keep gentle pressure on the wheel. At least for me with AI4 and 12.5.1.3. A bonus(I hope) for your wonderful content. Thanks!
Interesting if dusk is a weak point. It would make sense that a certain light level would be a rarer event with less training data and it doesn't look quite like daytime or night time. Hehe it will run over shallow Q-herbs at times.
Excellent vid, thanks. Appreciate the cameras giving situational awareness. Is it possible that curbing because needs camera recalibration? Just a thought.
1:07 Interesting to have that reporting 'button' omitted on this release. Tesla makes a point of measuring miles per intervention and such a change will distort the accumulation of negative events, leading to a false measure of improved quality.
Thanks for the video. I have 12.5.1.5 on HW3. I've noticed that it also cuts turns at too tight of a radius and then makes jerky moves to re-adjust during the turn. I've run over curbs a few times with it (luckily low ones). 12.3.6 was smoother at making the turns IMHO.
Could it because FSD is primarily trained on 3 and Y wheel base and since your S plaid is a bit longer? Does it usually curb the rear wheels instead of the front wheels? In any case, the corners are tight in NYC.
Has anyone tested 12.5 to check whether it recognizes the Percentage Speed Offset? That has been what has worked best for California driving. Auto Set Speed Offset doesn’t allow enough overage for the rate the majority of other drivers are going. I’m still on 12.3 which ignores % and mph settings.
Great video as per usual. However, I have a question. You mentioned that the radar was improved for HW4! I'm confused. I thought all new Tesla vehicles don't have radar. Can you or someone clarify
I think the snapshot feature is probably going to stay removed as giving people this feature "If only youtubers etc" leads to them prioritizing this data and they got horrible PR for it.
I wish you continued to do HW3 videos. It is unacceptable that Tesla sold HW3 and HW4 FSD capability simultaneously but planning on providing inferior performance in HW3 without any upgrade path. Someone needs to hold tesla accountable. My largest position is $TSLA, but I cannot accept what they are currently planning with HW3.
Deploying on hw4 gives them the fastest feedback cycle for the software. Not ideal for us HW3 drivers but surely you can see what's happening from the investor perspective. Getting FSD to work-on any hardware version -is more important than breaking a promise made with imperfect foresight of the future. Also they never shut the door on HW3 cars, they may in the future, but with FSD solved and an upgrade option presented, I hope.
It is no different to any other technology. You can never upgrade your smart phone hardware. That said, it makes sense for Tesla to optimise the software for HW3 as there are a lot more on the road. When the numbers of HW5 and HW4 exceed HW3, then you need to be concerned.
Haven’t they made it clear they are still developing for HW3? They are going to get better and better at training and optimizing the AI. Also, focusing on HW4 will likely allow them to bring the robotaxi to market sooner. As a stockholder that should make you happy.
@@philwelling7172 I am sorry, but I cannot agree with the smartphone hardware analogy. What would you say if Apple ever sold the iPhone 15 Pro Max with two different internals "at the same time for the same price" without making any clear distinction to the everyday unsuspecting customers and later delivered worse performance in some of the iPhones than the others? I would have no problem if Tesla could made a clean transition from HW3 to HW4. But, they decided to keep selling HW3 cars until earlier this year and sold the HW3 FSD for the same price as HW4 FSD.
In terms of your opening remarks as to how Tesla would look out for the HW3 folks, sir, let me put it to you this way.. While FSD v12.5.1.3 was released about a month ago and FSD v12.5.1.5 was released about two (2) weeks ago, Tesla easily could have delayed the release of FSD v12.5.1.3 by two (2) weeks, and releases FSD v12.5.3 covering HW3 and HW4 vehicles at the same time. If that were the case, the installer software piece can simply OTA FSD v12.5.1.3 and FSD v12.5.1.5 to HW4 vehicles and HW3 vehicles, respectively. Software version identifier is nothing more than just a number.. and in this case, with FSD v12.5.3 covering HW3 and HW4 in the manner described above, would make the HW3 folks feel so much better.

i havent had any issues with it but I do take over when it looks like its taking a turn too tight just cuz it scares me haha
Ha ha … love that little clip after hitting the curb. Little humour goes a long way :)

S really needs the option of the full screen visualization like the 3 and Y have.

Just a note. 12.5.3 is the same model for hw3 and 4.
I've heard, let's see if they behave the same

Useful tip!
I have also noticed course correction with 12.5.1.5. it's a regression.
When you rate the ride at the end of the video, the graphic shows version 12.5.1.3, but shouldn't it say 12.5.3? LOVED the humorous video insert!

Did that after the update so doesn't seem to be the case

This! The exact issue

That was a prevailing theory but it's not been proven. It's only the rear wheels for us.
show some love nice vid... 23 model y lr here hw3
Did you get 21 inch wheels again? My lease is up in about 8 months and im undecided whether to go with 19s again or 21s....
Yes, wanted to go with the 19s but the look is just not fitting imo
@@BlackTesla I love the 21s but doesn’t it eat the rear tires? How do you go about this?

Too much to type here but just look up "Tesla phoenix radar".
@@BlackTesla thanks. I'll do some research now
Perhaps the curb problem is because your Model S is wider than Models Y/3, which are mostly used to train the neural net?
That's the prevailing theory but hasn't been verified by Tesla
FSD failure for 2+ years, still does not understand how to slow down and stay slowed down in Houston's school zones.
It probably can't see the curb in high clarity enough detail to avoid it. It think it's just bumpy road

We shoul give FSD a break, curbs are hard.
After all, Human drivers hit or scrape curbs all the time. RIGHT? omg waj
Did you just say that your car in HW4 has radar??
Radar? I though FSD 12.5.x was vision only.
It is, but for S/X they just disabled the radar that's in the car
