Nice job. I hiked the John Muir Trail 55 years ago. I had two mountain lion and two large rattlesnake encounters -- and we caught a lot of trout. Then we came to a spot along the trail and stopped and stared at the side of a mountain for an hour. It was so beautiful it took my breath away. It was like a religious experience. I remember thinking "I am going to take this beauty with me for the rest of my life." I was not expecting how much it would impact me. It was a lifetime experience. Christian, you had a view of it in this video and it was just the way I remember it so many years ago! What a thrill. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your hike on the John Muir Trail. It brought back many memories. It was in 1964 with a pack 12 Scouts lead by LAFD Battalion Fire Chief that started us on the Northern (120 miles) JMT beginning in the Yosemite Valley. It was such an enriching experience that I will never forget. We finished the Southern half (120 miles) that ended at Mount Whitney the following summer. It was one of the highlights of my life.
So a beautiful story without one word bein said. The shot at 1:48 with him jumping into the clouds reflection was my favorite. Your videos inspire me to want to visit the places you have shown me. What a life adventure u have had!
Love the video. The photos and video are amazing. Classy pics with a great vibe. My husband and I eloped to Yosemite and were married there. It’s breathtaking.
I would really like to see more videos like this, mostly nature, maybe with original sound you are surrounded with whilst filming, whole movie unedited. Love your work, cheers and greets from Croatia!
I live in Sacramento, roughly 3 hours drive from Yosemite, been there a few times, majestic place, loved it every time. Unfortunately, not many people living here, been there. People come to Yosemite from all over the world and for some people it's hard to drive a couple of hours. In college my math professor was explaining degrees, and asked if anybody been to Yosemite to compare one of the hiking spots climbing degrees, out of like 30 students only like 3 or 4 of us raised hands. He was extremely surprised, so was I. Then he said -your homework assignment for the weekend is to head over to Yosemite. I don't know if many did that "assignment", but people don't even know what they are missing out on.
Wow, you thru hiked the JMT! I subscribed to learn more about van life / minimalism, but now I have even more respect! Long distance / thru hiking is my passion. That and minimalism! I hope to hike the JMT one day--I have other trails I have to complete first this year though.

awesome vid, beautiful edit! we just bought our first packs to set out on this stunning trail next summer! thanx for the inspiration. hammock looks like a must-have!! ;)
Started to hike the JMT from Toulome Meadows to The Valley almost 50 years ago, but being alone backpacking for the first and last time, and being an introvert, after a few days I couldn't take it anymore, felt kinda sick maybe from the water(or lack thereof) and hiked out at night and drove all the way home to the SF Bay Area. Beautiful country tho! This vid brings back good memories of other BP trips to the Sierras.
Some pretty scenery and impressive camera work. A collection of dis-connected images, geared to short attention span youngsters. I guess I’m more drawn to a narrative, story, or progression through time. Happy Trails!

You should make more videos, very good! How many places did you find along this trail that could accommodate hammocks? I actually have a Tensile Tent but others who are coming with me have regular hammocks.
Hey Jordan - thanks! A good portion of the trail is above tree-line, so only about half the trek is hammock friendly. A Tensile would be a true mission, I would consider leaving it behind. Although - the photos would be pretty amazing :)
Great video and editing! Getting some cabin fever and wanting to get out in the sierra asap. Love the hammock! I have a 30 year old one that I still bring.

@@ChristianSchaffer When I originally did it I was in my early 20's and was thinking at the time I would like to do this when I have kids and they are old enough. Not sure if I'll ever have kids now but towards the end of the hike I was thinking might never do long hikes again. Felt too slow pace for me. Since then I have gotten into motorcycle traveling...well more like scooters and small moto travel. Fast enough but slow enough to see things. Big motos is too fast pace to see anything. Been across the country several times, from Alaska to Florida to NYC, basically the four corners of the US. Want to do a round the world trip, take at least a year or more. Want to do that before I get old and don't have the health. Moto travel is faster pace and see much more covering more ground with much less effort. Others that travel by various methods from backpacking to auto/van to hitching to RVing to bus/train to motos all have come to the same conclusion as I that their preference is moto travel. You can see more and experience more have more freedom on a moto than any other method of travel. One reason why I would like to do the JMT again is to take pictures. When I did the JMT digital cameras were a new and EXPENSIVE item with poor quality. I took an old Nikon SLR from my folks that was over 20 years old but somehow my film got exposed to light and was ruined. So I have no pics from that experience. That would be the main reason why I would like to do it again, to take pics. Lately I have been thinking of backpacking again but would prefer to keep it shorter lengths, pack in set up base camp and explore the area pack out. When I did the JMT I never thought of it as a backpacking trip but a long hiking trip. I'm planning a few Yosemite trip soon. But you are right the JMT is an experience like no other. I picked up hitchhiker in NewZealand which turned out to be a thru hiker that did the Triple Crown and he had just finished hiking the length of NZ. He said that the JMT was the best part of the PCT.
